The karyotypes of three Lepilemuridae species, Lepilemur mustelinus, L. edwardsi, and L. dorsalis, are described and compared to those of three Lepilemur species previously reported. The phylogenetic relationships between the six species and their presumed last common ancestor are given. The results obtained, and the comparison with other groups, strongly suggest a monophyletic origin for all Malagasy lemurs. 相似文献

- Uptake of the radionuclides Co-60, Cs-134, Sr-89 and P-32 by different aquatic plants present in Ismailia Canal was found to increase at increasing initial concentrations of the radionuclides in the water.

The survival rate and oxygen consumption of Biomphalaria alexandrina snails exposed to sublethal concentrations of copper sulphate and Bayluscide were investigated. Prolonged exposure periods to the sublethal concentrations increased the percentage mortality among the exposed snails. Although the snails exposed to lower concentrations of the sublethal doses, were apparently normal, their oxygen consumption was markedly lower than the control ones. The rate of reduction of oxygen consumption by the experimental snails increased significantly at higher concentrations. The reduction of oxygen consumption was also presistent at prolonged exposure periods. 相似文献

Laboratory investigations were carried out to determine the growth rate, glycogen content of different body parts and glucose uptake in normal and schistosome-infected Biomphalaria alexandrina snails over a period of 45 days post infection. Infected snails grew at a faster rate. There were no significant differences in tissue water content and tissue dry weight of control and infected ones. A marked decrease in the glycogen content of female sex organs, mantle, digestive gland and muscles was observed in infected snails. Glucose utilization was also increased in infected snails. 相似文献

The lake situation and morphometry, climatic conditions, water balance and level, hydrology and hydrochemistry of lake Qarun were investigated.Salinity proved to be the most important factor affecting the lake water. Annual changes in salinity of the lake water were recorded. In a patient with the clinical features of classic ulceroglandular tularemia a solitary hepatic abscess was found during an ultrasound examination. Hepatic tularemia has rarely been reported since the advent of specific therapy, which prevents the disease from reaching the disseminated state. This case, however, shows that the liver can be involved early in the course of tularemia. Increased serum levels of hepatic enzymes may be the only sign of such a complication. 相似文献

Background
Although unsaturated fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, C20:5n-3), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, C22:6n-3) and arachidonic acid (ARA, C20:4n-6), collectively known as the highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA), play pivotal roles in vertebrate reproduction, very little is known about their synthesis in the ovary. The zebrafish (Danio rerio) display capability to synthesize all three HUFA via pathways involving desaturation and elongation of two precursors, the linoleic acid (LA, C18:2n-6) and linolenic acid (LNA, C18:3n-3). As a prerequisite to gain full understanding on the importance and regulation of ovarian HUFA synthesis, we described here the mRNA expression pattern of two enzymes; desaturase (fadsd6) and elongase (elovl5), involved in HUFA biosynthesis pathway, in different zebrafish ovarian follicle stages. H. pylori elicits specific humoral and cellular immune responses in the mucosal immune system. However, the type and extent of T lymphocyte response in the systemic immune system is not clear for H. pylori positive patients. In this study, peripheral blood T lymphocyte phenotypes and serum Th1/Th2 based cytokines of 32 H. pylori positive patients were analyzed and compared to those of healthy controls. While αβ TCR+ lymphocytes and their phenotype analysis were not significantly different to those of healthy controls, the percentage of pan γδ TCR+ lymphocytes was up to 2.4 times greater in the H. pylori positive group then in healthy controls. Furthermore, significant increases in IL‐10 concentrations in serum samples of H. pylori patients indicated that their immune systems had switched toward a Th2 type immune response. The correlation between phenotype and type of T cell response in the peripheral blood during H. pylori infection is discussed. 相似文献

The present work evaluated the epidemiology of human immunodeficiency virus 1/human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HIV-1/HTLV) coinfection in patients living in Belém (state of Pará) and Macapá (state of Amapá), two cities located in the Amazon region of Brazil. A total of 169 blood samples were collected. The sera were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to determine the presence of antibodies anti-HTLV-1/2. Confirmation of infection and discrimination of HTLV types and subtypes was performed using a nested polymerase chain reaction targeting the pX and 5' LTR regions, followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism and sequencing analysis. The presence of anti-HTLV1/2 was detected in six patients from Belém. The amplification of the pX region followed by RFLP analysis, demonstrated the presence of HTLV-1 and HTLV-2 infections among two and four patients, respectively. Sequencing HTLV-1 5' LTR indicated that the virus is a member of the Cosmopolitan Group, Transcontinental subgroup. HTLV-2 strains isolated revealed a molecular profile of subtype HTLV-2c. These results are a reflex of the epidemiological features of HIV-1/HTLV-1/2 coinfection in the North region of Brazil, which is distinct from other Brazilian regions, as reported by previous studies. 相似文献

Nerve growth factor (NGF) increases expression of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) isozymes leading to enhanced production of nitric oxide (NO). NOS inhibitors attenuate NGF-mediated increases in cholinergic gene expression and neurite outgrowth. Mechanisms underlying this are unknown, but the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase pathway plays an important role in NGF signaling. Like NGF, NO donors activate Ras leading to phosphorylation of MAP kinase. The present study investigated the role of NO in NGF-mediated activation of MAP kinase in PC12 cells. Cells were treated with 50 ng/mL NGF to establish the temporal pattern for rapid and sustained activation phases of MAP kinase kinase (MEK)-1/2 and p42/p44-MAP kinase. Subsequently, cells were pretreated with NOS inhibitors Nomega-nitro-L-arginine methylester and s-methylisothiourea and exposed to NGF for up to 24 h. NGF-induced activation of MEK-1/2 and p42/p44-MAP kinase was not dependent on NO, but sustained phosphorylation of MAP kinase was modulated by NO. This modulation did not occur at the level of Ras-Raf-MEK signaling or require activation of cGMP/PKG pathway. NOS inhibitors did not affect NGF-mediated phosphorylation of MEK. Expression of constitutively active-MEKK1 in cells led to phosphorylation of p42/p44-MAP kinase and robust neurite outgrowth; constitutively active-MKK1 also caused differentiation with neurite extension. NOS inhibitor treatment of cells expressing constitutively active kinases did not affect MAP kinase activation, but neurite outgrowth was attenuated. NOS inhibitors did not alter NGF-mediated nuclear translocation of phospho-MAP kinase, but phosphorylated kinases disappeared more rapidly from NOS inhibitor-treated cells suggesting greater phosphatase activity and termination of sustained activation of MAP kinase. 相似文献
