ABSTRACT The storage carbohydrate granules from Euglena and Pavlova were compared by light and electron microscopy. Freezeetch studies demonstrated that while both types of granules are crystalline, they have different structures. The elemental microfibril of the euglenoid granule measures 4 nm, and the elemental striation of the granule from Pavlova is 22 nm. The granules each have a unique X-ray diffraction pattern. The storage carbohydrate granules from Pavlova are not the same as paramyton, and the term “paramylon” should be reserved for the euglenoid storage carbohydrate.  相似文献

In order to improve the interpretation of the results of pollen analyses concerning mediaeval anthropogenous sediments a set of recent seeds of the principal cereals was pollenanalytically elaborated. The aim was to find out whether pollen grains can be preserved on mature seeds. The pollen spectra obtained from the material of mediaeval anthropogenous sediments include, in most cases, a large amount of pollen of certain plants including cereals. It is suggested that part of the pollen spectra from anthropogenous sediments need not come from air transport, i.e. from the surrounding vegetation; it could get into waste pits in another way. Above all, some foodstuffs were considered to be the sources of pollen grains. The origin of some grains coming from honey and from plant infusions has, at least partly, been demonstrated (Jankovská 1987). As the next step, attention was paid to other products, mainly those of cereals. An experimental pollen analysis of recent seeds of selected cereals showed that pollen grains are preserved on their surface, often in high concentrations. This is due, above all, to the cleistogamy of most cereals. The highest values of pollen grains have so far been found inAvena sativa andPanicum milliaceum. Triticum aestivum andHordeum vulgare showed lower values of pollen grains. The lowest amounts were found in heterogamousSecale cereale. Simultaneously, the pollen of plants growing in a neighbourhood, above all the pollen of field weeds, was found sticking to the seeds.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers of the following nine taxa of the Czechoslovak flora are given:Atriplex rosea L.,Cardamine resedifolia L.,Groenlandia densa (L.)Fourr.,Isoëtes lacustris L.,Lysimachia nemorum L.,Parnassia palustris L.,Phelipanche caesia (Rchb.) Soják,Rumex patientia L. subsp.patientia andSymphytum officinale L. s. str. A new chromosome number of 2n=80 is reported forRumex patientia L. subsp.patientia. Chromosome numbers of another five taxa are first reported from Czechoslovakia. Each of the ascertained chromosome counts is discussed with respect to hitherto known reports.  相似文献

Two population characteristics, reproductive allocation (RA) and the intensity of photosynthesis, were investigated in the successional stages of the sandy grassland communities of the Great Hungarian Plain. Most of the species studied changed their allocational response as succession advanced. Compound path schemes, as casual models, were constructed and analysed for describing intra-individual effects (influence of assimilating organs and root mass of the plant sampled) as well as the phytosociological effects on RA. In pioneer stages, the high values of path coefficients show that the effect of assimilating organs is responsible for the variability of RA. It is also shown that annuals and perennials exhibit different behaviour as to the regulation of RA. It seems that-in terms of path analysis-the reproduction of annuals is influenced by internal factors only. In case of perennials, an external (namely phytosociological) regulation was also observed. It is suggested that successional stages play a role in regulating the photosynthetic intensity of both the dominant species and the whole plant assemblage.Abbreviations RA = Reproductive Allocation  相似文献

In connection with our discovery of a strong immunosuppressive activity of cyclolinopeptide A (CLA), we investigated immunosuppressive properties of antamanide and a number of its analogues, including symmetrical antamanide, and compared them with the activities of cyclosporin A and CLA. The peptides were investigated by using plaque forming cell (PFC), graft-versus-host (GvH), delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH), and autologous rosette formation cell (ARFC) tests. Antamanide and symmetrical antamanide exhibit an immunosuppressive activity lower than CLA. Linear antamanide fragments are also active. At higher concentrations of the latter peptides, toxic effects occur.  相似文献

Using the peroxidase-antiperoxidase immunocytochemical technique, a morphometric study of the magnocellular neurons of the Paraventricular nucleus of the rat hypothalamus, reactive to specific anti-vasopressin rabbit serum, was made. Following systemic and chronic administration of met-enkephalin the number of immunoreactive neurons was higher, especially in females. Additionally, in the females, it was possible to observe an increase in the immunoreactivity and the presence of well-stained fibres. These findings suggest, especially in females, a blockage in the release of vasopressin, facilitating its immunocytochemical visualization.  相似文献

Barium granuloma of the colon and rectum is a rare complication of X-ray examination of the digestive tract using barium. The authors report 5 new cases occurring in the last 3 years. Histological examination revealed a granulomatous reaction with greyish finely granular refractile PAS-negative material located in the cytoplasm of histiocytes and in the interstitial space. The radiographic study of the paraffin blocks confirmed the nature of this material, which was X-ray opaque, and this was corroborated histochemically with the rhodizonate technique.  相似文献

The cerebral cortex of Squamate reptiles (lizards and snakes) may be regarded as an archicortex or "reptilian hippocampus". In lizards, one cortical area, the medial cortex, may be considered as a true "fascia dentata" on grounds of its anatomy, connectivity and cyto- chemo-architectonics of its main zinc-rich axonal projection. Moreover, its late ontogenesis and postnatal development support this view. In normal conditions, it shows delayed postnatal neurogenesis and growth during the lizard's life span. Remnant neuroblasts in the medial cortical ependyma of adult lizards seasonally proliferate. The late-produced immature neurocytes migrate to the medial cortex cell layer where they differentiate and give off zinc-containing axons directed to the rest of cortical areas. This results in a continuous growth of the medial cortex and its zinc-rich axonal projection. Perhaps the most important characteristic of the lizard medial cortex is that it can regenerate after having been almost completely destroyed. Recent experiments in our laboratory have shown that chemical lesion of its neurons (up to 95%) results in a cascade of events; first, those related with massive neuronal death and axonal-dendritic retraction and, secondly, those related with a triggered neuroblast proliferation and subsequent neo-histogenesis, and the regeneration of an almost new medial cortex that shows itself undistinguishable from a normal undamaged one. This is the only report to our knowledge that an amniote central nervous centre may regenerate by new neuron production and neo-histogenesis. Perhaps the medial cortex of lizards may be used as a model for neuronal regeneration and/or transplant experiments in mammals or even in primates.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to characterize lipid metabolism in long-term cultures of adult rat hepatocytes from female rats and explore the potential use of this culture system to study the effect of hormones, drugs and toxic chemicals on it. Hepatocytes, seeded on a feeder layer of 3T3 cells, maintained for 2 weeks their typical morphology. The cultures were able to take up [14C]acetic and [14C]oleic acid from the culture medium and incorporate them into lipids. The synthesis and secretion of lipids by [14C]acetic acid-labeled cultures had a maximum value after 11 and 13 days in culture. Triacylglycerols were the main lipidic species synthesized and secreted by hepatocytes (up to 67% of the total lipids); they also synthesized and secreted phospholipids, cholesterol and cholesterol esters from [14C]acetic acid. Similarly, [14C]oleic acid-labeled cultures synthesized and secreted mostly triacylglycerols (up to 60-70% of the total lipids), but they were also able to incorporate the labeled precursor into both cellular and secreted phospholipids and cholesterol esters. The activity of glycerol-phosphate-dehydrogenase, marker enzyme of glycerolipid synthesis, decreased slightly during the culture time whereas the activity of malic enzyme, marker of fatty acid synthesis, increased. Our results show that long-term cultures of female rat hepatocytes are able to synthesize and secrete several lipids, specially triacylglycerols, from both [14C]acetic and [14C]oleic acid for at least 2 weeks and that they maintain enzyme activities related with the synthetic pathways of glycerolipids and fatty acids.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
