The systematics and geographical distribution of Malaysian and Singapore freshwater calanoid copepods are discussed in details. Neodiaptomus handeli Brehm, N. laii Kiefer, N. blachei (Brehm), N. botulifer Kiefer, N. mephistopheles Brehm, Pseudodiaptomus (Schmackeria) dauglishi Sewell, P. (S.) tollingerae Sewell and Tropodiaptomus spp. Kiefer are all present in the northwestern part of the Peninsula. There are only 4 species, namely, N. handeli, N. botulifer, N. meggitti Kiefer and Tropodiaptomus sp. in the southern half of the Peninsula. The whole of the east coast also has 4 species, i.e. N. handeli, N. malaindosinensis (n.n.), P. (S.) tollingerae and one species of Tropodiaptomus. The only species that cut across a wide range of geographical barriers are N. handeli and Tropodiaptomus.  相似文献

A double-stranded ribonucleic acid (dsRNA) was isolated from coremial extracts of wild type P. claviforme, by methylated-albumin kieselguhr chromatography. Differential centrifugations of the coremial extracts from WT and Sh mutant strains yielded two classes of virus-like particles (VLP), of dimensions 25-30 nm, and 50-70 nm. The possible ecological significance of fungal viruses is discussed.  相似文献

The sequence of the four tryptic peptides containing cysteine from cholera toxin has been determined. The cysteine residue in peptide A2, forms a disulfide bridge with the cysteine in the A1 chain located near the NH2-terminus. The region around the latter cysteine residue is characterized by a high content of proline. One of the cysteine residues that form the intrachain disulfide bond in subunit B has been located at position 9 in this subunit.  相似文献

The specificity of the hydrolytic reaction has been compared to that of the synthetic reaction for maltase and isomaltase (alpha-methyl-D-glucosidase) from Saccharomyces oviformis. Maltase which hydrolyzes the alpha-1,4-disaccharide, maltose, and the alpha-1,6-disaccharide, isomaltose, catalyzes the formation of both maltose and isomaltose from free glucose. Isomaltase, which hydrolyzes isomaltose but not maltose, catalyzes the formation only of isomaltose from glucose. Both enzymes hydrolyze p-nitrophenyl-alpha-D-glucoside releasing the alpha-anomer of glucose. The enzymes utilize the alpha-anomer but not the beta-anomer for the synthesis of the disaccharides. These results are consistent with the double displacement mechanism for glycosidases and with the proposal that the glucosyl-enzyme complex is an intermediate in the reaction. The competitive inhibition by D-glucose is independent of its anomeric form for both enzymes.  相似文献

Forty years ago, a high frequency of lethal giant larvae (lgl) alleles in wild populations of Drosophila melanogaster was reported. This locus has been intensively studied for its roles in epithelial polarity, asymmetric neural divisions, and restriction of tissue proliferation. Here, we identify a high frequency of lgl alleles in the Bloomington second chromosome deficiency kit and the University of California at Los Angeles Bruinfly FRT40A-lethal P collection. These unrecognized aberrations confound the use of these workhorse collections for phenotypic screening or genetic mapping. In addition, we determined that independent alleles of insensitive, reported to affect asymmetric cell divisions during sensory organ development, carry lgl deletions that are responsible for the observed phenotypes. Taken together, these results encourage the routine testing of second chromosome stocks for second-site alleles of lgl.  相似文献

With an increasing aging society, China is the world’s fastest growing markets for oral implants. Compared with traditional oral implants, immediate implants cause marginal bone resorption and increase the failure rate of osseointegration, but the mechanism is still unknown. Therefore, it is important to further study mechanisms of tension stimulus on osteoblasts and osteoclasts at the early stage of osseointegration to promote rapid osseointegration around oral implants. The results showed that exosomes containing circ_0008542 from MC3T3-E1 cells with prolonged tensile stimulation promoted osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption. Circ_0008542 upregulated Tnfrsf11a (RANK) gene expression by acting as a miR-185-5p sponge. Meanwhile, the circ_0008542 1916-1992 bp segment exhibited increased m6A methylation levels. Inhibiting the RNA methyltransferase METTL3 or overexpressing the RNA demethylase ALKBH5 reversed osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption induced by circ_0008542. Injection of circ_0008542 + ALKBH5 into the tail vein of mice reversed the same effects in vivo. Site-directed mutagenesis study demonstrated that 1956 bp on circ_0008542 is the m6A functional site with the abovementioned biological functions. In conclusion, the RNA methylase METTL3 acts on the m6A functional site of 1956 bp in circ_0008542, promoting competitive binding of miRNA-185-5p by circ_0008542, and leading to an increase in the target gene RANK and the initiation of osteoclast bone absorption. In contrast, the RNA demethylase ALKBH5 inhibits the binding of circ_0008542 with miRNA-185-5p to correct the bone resorption process. Mucormycosis is an invasive fungal infection associated with a high mortality rate, especially in immunocompromised hosts. Mucormycosis rarely occurs in cirrhotic patients. Here, we report a case of mucormycosis with underlying liver cirrhosis and diabetes mellitus. The patient suffered from maxillary sinusitis and osteomyelitis, and the infection was successfully treated with antifungal agents, surgical debridement, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The antifungal treatments used were liposomal amphotericin B, itraconazole, and posaconazole. Although our patient had liver cirrhosis (Child-Pugh classification B), no hepatic decompensation was developed during the treatment course of posaconazole. This is the first report of the safe and effective use of posaconazole for the treatment of mucormycosis in a cirrhotic patient.  相似文献

Several radioactive estrogens possessing one, two and three hydroxyl groups were injected orally (and in the case of estrone sulfate also intraperitoneally) into adult male rats. The rats were either intact or had ligated or cannulated bile ducts. Two unconjugated estrogen tetrols together represented 21 - 87% of the total metabolites in the intact rat. One of the tetrols was 2-hydroxyestriol (estra-1,3,5(10)-triene-2,3,16alpha,17beta-tetrol); the other may be estra-1,3,5(10)-triene-2,3,6xi,17beta-tetrol but this was not confirmed. It is concluded that poly-hydroxylated estrogens represent a very large proportion of the previously unidentified water-soluble metabolites of the estrogens in the adult male rat.  相似文献

Microbes play important roles in human health and disease. The interaction between microbes and hosts is a reciprocal relationship, which remains largely under-explored. Current computational resources lack manually and consistently curated data to connect metagenomic data to pathogenic microbes, microbial core genes, and disease phenotypes. We developed the MicroPhenoDB database by manually curating and consistently integrating microbe-disease association data. MicroPhenoDB provides 5677 non-redundant associations between 1781 microbes and 542 human disease phenotypes across more than 22 human body sites. MicroPhenoDB also provides 696,934 relationships between 27,277 unique clade-specific core genes and 685 microbes. Disease phenotypes are classified and described using the Experimental Factor Ontology (EFO). A refined score model was developed to prioritize the associations based on evidential metrics. The sequence search option in MicroPhenoDB enables rapid identification of existing pathogenic microbes in samples without running the usual metagenomic data processing and assembly. MicroPhenoDB offers data browsing, searching, and visualization through user-friendly web interfaces and web service application programming interfaces. MicroPhenoDB is the first database platform to detail the relationships between pathogenic microbes, core genes, and disease phenotypes. It will accelerate metagenomic data analysis and assist studies in decoding microbes related to human diseases.
