The synthesis of the 3-heptyl, and the eleven isomeric 3-methylheptyl-Δ8-tetrahydrocannabinols (3–7, R and S methyl epimers, and 8) has been carried out. The synthetic approach entailed the synthesis of substituted resorcinols, which were subjected to acid catalyzed condensation with trans-para-menthadienol to provide the Δ8-THC analogue. The 1′-, 2′- and 3′-methylheptyl analogues (3–5) are considerably more potent than Δ8-THC. The 4′-, 5′- and 6′-methylheptyl isomers (6–8) are approximately equal in potency to Δ8-THC.  相似文献

We investigated the phylogenetic relationships among five species of lampridiform fishes, three basal outgroup species (two aulopiforms and one myctophiform), and two species of non-lampridiform acanthomorphs (Polymixia and Percopsis) using a combined parsimony analysis of morphological and molecular data. Morphological characters included 28 transformation series obtained from the literature. Molecular characters included 223 informative transformation series from an aligned 854-base pair fragment of 12S mtDNA and 139 informative transformation series from an aligned 561-base pair fragment of 16S mtDNA. A total-evidence analysis using the aulopiforms Synodus and Aulopus and the myctophiform Hygophum as outgroups corroborates the monophyly of Lampridiformes and unites Polymixia with Percopsis. Among the lampridiform fishes we examined, Metavelifer is basal, followed in ascending order by Lampris, Lophotus, Regalecus, and Trachipterus. This hypothesis is congruent with the most recent morphological analysis of the Lampridiformes and rejects a diphyletic origin of elongate body form within the clade. Analysis of a combined matrix of 12S and 16S mtDNA data yielded a phylogenetic hypothesis isomorphic with the total-evidence phylogeny. Analyses of partitioned DNA data sets reveals that single gene regions are poor predictors of the total-evidence phylogeny while combined analyses of both DNA data sets are good predictors of the total-evidence phylogeny.  相似文献

Background

Human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18 cause invasive cervical cancer and most invasive anal cancers (IACs). Overall, IAC rates are highest among men who have sex with men (MSM), especially MSM with HIV infection. Testosterone is prescribed for men showing hypogonadism and HIV-related wasting. While there are direct and indirect physiological effects of testosterone in males, its role in anal HPV16/18 infections in men is unknown.

Methods

Free testosterone (FT) was measured in serum from 340 Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) participants who were tested for anal HPV16/18-DNA approximately 36 months later. The effect of log10-transformed current FT level on anal HPV16/18 prevalence was modeled using Poisson regression with robust error variance. Multivariate models controlled for other HPV types, cumulative years of exogenous testosterone use, race, age, lifetime number of receptive anal intercourse partnerships, body mass index, tobacco smoking, HIV-infection and CD4+ T-cell counts among HIV-infected, and blood draw timing.

Results

Participants were, on average, 60 (+5.4) years of age, White (86%), and HIV-uninfected (56%); Twenty-four percent tested positive for anal HPV16 and/or 18-DNA (HPV16 prevalence=17.1%, HPV18=9.1%). In adjusted analysis, each half-log10 increase of FT was associated with a 1.9-fold (95% Confidence Interval: 1.11, 3.24) higher HPV16/18 prevalence. Additionally, other Group 1 high-risk HPVs were associated with a 1.56-fold (1.03, 2.37) higher HPV16/18 prevalence. Traditional risk factors for HPV16/18 infection (age, tobacco smoking; lifetime number of sexual partners, including the number of receptive anal intercourse partnerships within 24 months preceding HPV testing) were poorly correlated with one another and not statistically significantly associated with higher prevalence of HPV16/18 infection in unadjusted and adjusted analyses.

Conclusions

Higher free testosterone was associated with increased HPV16/18 prevalence measured approximately three years later, independent of sexual behavior and other potential confounders. The mechanisms underlying this association remain unclear and warrant further study.  相似文献

Despite the accepted importance of the need to better understand how natal location affects movement decisions and survival of animals, robust estimates of movement and survival in relation to the natal location are lacking. Our study focuses on movement and survival related to the natal location of snail kites in Florida and shows that kites, in addition to exhibiting a high level of site tenacity to breeding regions, also exhibit particular attraction to their natal region. More specifically, we found that estimates of movement from post-dispersal regions were greater toward natal regions than toward non-natal regions (differences were significant for three of four regions). We also found that estimates of natal philopatry were greater than estimates of philopatry to non-natal regions (differences were statistically significant for two of four regions). A previous study indicated an effect of natal region on juvenile survival; in this study, we show an effect of natal region on adult survival. Estimates of adult survival varied among kites that were hatched in different regions. Adults experienced mortality rates characteristic of the region occupied at the time when survival was measured, but because there is a greater probability that kites will return to their natal region than to any other regions, their survival was ultimately influenced by their natal region. In most years, kites hatched in southern regions had greater survival probabilities than did kites hatched in northern regions. However, during a multiregional drought, one of the northern regions served as a refuge from drought, and during this perturbation, survival was greater for birds hatched in the north. Our study shows that natal location may be important in influencing the ecological dynamics of kites but also highlights the importance of considering temporal variation in habitat conditions of spatially structured systems when attempting to evaluate the conservation value of habitats. A facile synthesis of 1-fluoro-1-deoxy-Delta(8)-THC analogs with side chains seven carbons in length, in the alkane/ene/yne- series (6, 5, and 4), was achieved from 1-fluoro-3,5-dimethoxybenzene (1). In vitro studies show that substitution by a fluorine has a significant detrimental effect on CB1 binding which is supported by in vivo testing. The implications of these results on the SAR of classical cannabinoids are discussed.  相似文献

Question: Chronic stress events are defined as disturbance events that exceed the lifespan of the dominant plant species, fluctuate in intensity and lack abruptness or physical destruction of biomass. Can the effects of chronic stress events be measured on vegetation communities? Did two chronic stress events, the removal of a tide gate and a four year drought, cause a temporary or permanent shift in the vegetation communities of a tidal marsh? Location: Tidal marsh in southeastern United States. Methods: Change in species composition and dominance and community change on a landscape level salinity gradient were measured between time periods ranging from four months to seven years to construct a statistical baseline reference community at freshwater, oligohaline, and mesohaline sections of a tidal marsh. Statistical shifts in the plant community were defined as changes in the plant community that fell outside of the defined baseline reference community. Results: Plant community changes outside of the reference community occurred in 13 out of 378 community comparisons. Removal of the tide gate had a greater effect on interstitial salinity levels than the drought and was most intense in the oligohaline marsh, where between 20 to 45% of the freshwa‐ter/oligohaline community types permanently converted to oligohaline community types. However, community shifts in the freshwater and oligohaline marsh induced by the drought were temporary, lasting from 1 to 3+ years. Neither chronic stress event permanently altered the mesohaline plant communities. Conclusion: The effects of chronic stress events could be detected; an extended historical record of vegetation change (18 years) was necessary to identify community shifts outside of a reference condition of the community and to determine if those shifts were permanent or temporary.  相似文献

The rare, monotypic deep-sea fish family Stylephoridae has long been considered a member of the order Lampridiformes (opahs, velifers, ribbonfishes), and no systematic ichthyologist has questioned its placement within the order for over 80 years. Recently three individuals of Stylephorus chordatus were collected from different oceans, and we sequenced the whole mitochondrial genome and a partial nuclear recombination activating gene 1 (RAG1) gene sequences for each specimen. We aligned these sequences with those available from higher teleosts, including representative lampridiforms, and constructed two separate datasets from the sequences. The resulting trees derived from partitioned Bayesian analyses strongly indicated that S. chordatus is not a lampridiform but is closely related to the order Gadiformes (cod and their relatives). Lampridiformes is diagnosed on the basis of four synapomorphies, three of which are correlated with the rare and possibly unique ability to extend both the maxilla and premaxilla as a unit during feeding. Stylephorus also possesses such unique ability, but lacks two and possibly three of the four synapomorphies, suggesting that further morphological analysis is needed. Considering its unique morphologies with no indication of affinities within Gadiformes (or any other presently recognized order), the present results warrant a recognition of the new order for S. chordatus in fish systematics.  相似文献

The Bioinformatics Resource Manager (BRM) is a software environment that provides the user with data management, retrieval and integration capabilities. Designed in collaboration with biologists, BRM simplifies mundane analysis tasks of merging microarray and proteomic data across platforms, facilitates integration of users' data with functional annotation and interaction data from public sources and provides connectivity to visual analytic tools through reformatting of the data for easy import or dynamic launching capability. BRM is developed using Java and other open-source technologies for free distribution.
