Recent findings on the antioxidant effects of pretreatment with α-lipoic acid (α-LA) on the crush injury of rat sciatic nerve confirm the possible usefulness of α-LA administration in humans with peripheral nerve injuries. We discussed this issue in relation with our recent results in which the combined employment of α-LA and γ-linolenic acid with a rehabilitation program for six weeks reduced sensory symptoms and neuropathic pain in patients with compressive radiculopathy syndrome from disc-nerve root conflict in comparison with patients submitted to rehabilitation program alone for six weeks.  相似文献

Gyrodactylus sommervillae n. sp. (Monogenea) is described from the skin, fins and gills of Abramis brama (L.) and Rutilus rutilus (L.) from Blenheim Palace Lake, Oxfordshire, UK. G. sommervillae n. sp. closely resembles G. aphyae Malmberg, 1957, G. kearni Ergens, 1990 and G. lamberti Ergens, 1990 in the approximate shape of the marginal hook sickle and the anchors, but can be separated on the precise shape of the marginal hooks and the ventral bar.  相似文献

Chiral monoaza-15-crown-5 ethers (1, 2) were prepared from (R)-(-)-2-amino-1-butanol in high yield. The chiral monoaza-15-crown-5 ethers were purified directly as NaClO(4) complexes. Molecular recognition by these chiral monoaza-crown ethers of (R)- and (S)-PhEtHClO(4) and (R)- and (S)-NapEtHClO(4) as characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy. The order of enantiomeric selectivity is (R)- > (S)- PhEtHClO(4) and (S)- > (R)-NapEtHClO(4) for 1. In the case of 2 it was (R)- > (S)-PhEtHClO(4) and (R)- > (S)- NapEtHClO(4). The cavity of macrocycle and steric hindrance of the benzene units appears to play an important role in recognition.  相似文献

Color and texture match is crucial in reconstruction of facial tissue defects. Between March of 1997 and July of 2000, island flaps based on the parietal, anterofrontal, centrofrontal, posterofrontal, and superior auricular branches of the superficial temporal artery were used in the reconstruction of tissue defects localized on different regions of the face in 28 patients. According to the size and the location of the defect, the flap was selected. There were 15 male patients and 13 female patients, with ages ranging between 19 and 74 years. In six of the flaps, venous congestion was observed. Because of the elevation of the eyebrow on the flap side, three patients required a sling to the opposite eyebrow. Excellent color and tissue match and transfer of hair-bearing tissue to the eyebrow and beard areas were achieved with no other complications. Satisfactory aesthetic results were gained.  相似文献

The force fields commonly used in molecular dynamics simulations of proteins are optimized under bulk conditions. Whether the same force fields can be used in simulations of membrane proteins is not well established, although they are increasingly being used for such purposes. Here we consider ion permeation in the gramicidin A channel as a test of the AMBER force field in a membrane environment. The potentials of mean force for potassium ions are calculated along the channel axis and compared with the one deduced from the experimental conductance data. The calculated result indicates a rather large central barrier similar to those obtained from other force fields, which are incompatible with the conductance data. We suggest that lack of polarizability is the most likely cause of this problem, and, therefore, urge development of polarizable force fields for simulations of membrane proteins.  相似文献

Amplitude or frequency alterations of spontaneous brain oscillations may reveal pathological phenomena in the brain or predict recovery from brain lesions, but the temporal evolution and the functional significance of these changes is not well known. We performed follow-up recordings of spontaneous brain oscillations with whole-head MEG in 16 patients with first-ever stroke in the middle cerebral artery territory, affecting upper limb motor function, 1–7 days (T0), 1 month (T1), and 3 months (T2) after stroke, with concomitant clinical examination. Clinical test results improved significantly from T0 to T1 or T2. During recovery (at T1 and T2), the strength of temporo–parietal ∼10-Hz oscillations in the affected hemisphere (AH) was increased as compared with the unaffected hemisphere. Abnormal low-frequency magnetic activity (ALFMA) at ∼1 Hz in the AH was detected in the perilesional cortex in seven patients at T0. In four of these, ALFMA persisted at T2. In patients with ALFMA, the lesion size was significantly larger than in the rest of the patients, and worse clinical outcome was observed in patients with persisting ALFMA. Our results indicate that temporo–parietal ∼10-Hz oscillations are enhanced in the AH during recovery from stroke. Moreover, stroke causes ALFMA, which seems to persist in patients with worse clinical outcome.  相似文献

Variation in the frequency of colour/pattern phenotypes of Philaenus spumarius (L.) is studied in the three local populations of Samsun (Mid-Black Sea Region), Turkey. The data, obtained from the 91 samples including 10,427 adult spittlebugs, 5,340 females and 5,087 males were analysed according to phenotype distributions in the study sites. The adult spittlebugs were collected during eleven months except with April. The mean sample size was 114.6±19.9 (Mean±S.E.) for 91 samplings. Eight different phenotypes of P spumarius were detected in the Samsun populations. Of these, four were non-melanic and four were melanic phenotypes with the lack of the “O” group. In females, non-melanic frequency was over 95%, which TYP (typicus) was the predominant phenotype, but POP (populi) in males. However the phenotype frequency distributions were not different between the sites studied. Although, frequency of females reached up to 85% in some samples, the overall sex ratio did not differ from the 1:1.  相似文献

The preservation of many stained gross specimens in solution creates some difficulties. It is convenient and effective to preserve material in polyester resin instead of glycerol. The aim of this study was to determine the usefulness of clearing and embedding using polyester resin. The samples consisted of the nerve distribution patterns of skeletal muscles stained using Sihler's method. The muscles were cleared more successfully and the intramuscular nerve distributions were demonstrated better in polyester than in glycerol. The method presented here eliminates not only the storage and handling problems of specimens, but also problems such as pale stains and the molding of preparations. Furthermore, it is more convenient to examine and to photograph specimens cleared and embedded in polyester than those stored in glycerol.  相似文献
