The mathematical models proposed and studied in the present paper provide a unified framework to understand complex dynamical patterns in vole populations in Europe and North America. We have extended the well-known model provided by Hanski and Turchin by incorporating the diffusion term and spatial heterogeneity and performed several mathematical and numerical analyses to explore the dynamics in space and time of the model. These models successfully predicted the observed rodent dynamics in these regions. An attempt has been made to bridge the gap between the field and theoretical studies carried out by Turchin and Hanski (1997) [23] and Turchin and Ellner (2000) [24]. Simulation experiments, mainly two-dimensional parameter scans, show the importance of spatial heterogeneity in order to understand the poorly understood fluctuations in population densities of voles in Fennoscandia and Northern America. This study shed new light upon the dynamics of voles in these regions. The nonlinear analysis of vole data suggests that the dynamical shift is from stability to chaos. Diffusion driven model systems predict a new type of dynamics not yet observed in the field studies of vole populations carried out so far. This has been termed as chaotic in time and regular in space (CTRS). We observed CTRS dynamics in several simulation experiments. This directs us to expect that dynamics of this animal would be de-correlated in time and simultaneously mass extinctions might be possible at many spatial locations. 相似文献

In Brassica juncea, segregation of 44 RFLP markers generated by homologous genomic DNA clones as probes was studied in a F2 population obtained from an intervarietal cross. Linkage relationship among the markers was established using computer package ‘MAPMAKER’. Twenty five of the markers could be arranged in nine linkage groups, covering a total of 243.3 cM. Marker BJG357c showed tight linkage (3.9 cM) with yellow seed coat colour locus (r 1). Based on single factor analysis of variance,17 significant marker-trait associations could be established in respect of six quantitative traits viz. days to flowering, plant height, number of primary branches, secondary branches per primary branch, siliquea per secondary branch, and seeds per siliqua. The proportion of phenotypic variation explained by individual marker-trait association ranged from 3.0% to 33.2%. The putative gene action at majority of the marked genomic regions was found to be partial dominance to dominance. 相似文献

A microbial biosensor was developed for monitoring microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) of metallic materials in industrial systems. The Pseudomonas sp. isolated from corroded metal surface was immobilized on acetylcellulose membrane and its respiratory activity was estimated by measuring oxygen consumption. The microbial biosensor was used for the measurement of sulfuric acid in a batch culture medium contaminated by microorganisms. A linear relationship between the microbial sensor response and the concentration of sulfuric acid was observed. The response time of biosensor was 5 min and was dependent on the immobilized cell loading of Pseudomonas sp., pH, temperature and corrosive environments. The microbial biosensor response was stable, reproducible and specific for sensing of sulfur oxidizing bacterial activity. 相似文献
