A Psychophysiological Study of Affective Disorders in Patients during Post-stroke Rehabilitation

Psychophysiological parameters of affective disorders (depression, depersonalization, and alexithymia) were studied in patients who had suffered ischemic stoke. Significant differences from healthy subjects were observed for certain MMPI scores and EEG, neurophysiological, and neuroimaging parameters. The results provide a basis for better understanding of brain function in healthy people and patients with dysfunction of higher cognitive processes.     

The gene pool of the belgorod oblast population: Changes in the endogamy indices of district populations with time

Changes in the endogamy indices of district populations of the Central Chernozem region of Russia during the past 100 years were studied. The size of an elementary population in this region increased from that of a rural municipality in the mid-20th century to that of an administrative district in the late 20th century.     

Hereditary polymorphism in the haptoglobin system of schizophrenic patients and healthy subjects]

Hereditary polymorphism of haptoglobin is studied by means of starch gel electrophoresis in schizophrenic patients (200 persons) and in healthy people (154 persons), in habitants of Minsk. It is concluded that Minsk inhabitants do not differ considerably from the rest European population in their frequencies of haptoglobin alleles. No reliable differences in the distribution of haptoglobin genotypes were found between patients and healthy persons. However, hereditary types of haptoglobins turned to be markers of the course and the prognosis of schizophrenia.     

The clinico-epidemiological characteristics of Powassan encephalitis in the southern Soviet Far East]

The present communication deals with the analysis of 14 cases of Powassan encephalitis. As shown in this study, the course of this infection may be accompanied by symptoms indicating the presence of cerebral and meningeal lesions (in 7 cases meningoencephalitic forms with one fatal outcome and in 2 cases meningeal forms were registered) or take febrile and inapparent forms (5 cases). Powassan encephalitis was found to give characteristic symptoms of cerebellovestibular lesions, differentiating this disease from tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). The cases of mixed infections caused by TBE virus, Powassan encephalitis virus and tick-born Borrelia were found to be possible.
