Superinfection immunity is found in the conjugal transfer of R factors between two fi(+) R factors and between two fi(-) R factors (fi = fertility inhibition), as we reported previously. In contrast, no reduction in the frequencies of transduction of an fi(+) R factor 222 was caused by the presence of fi(+) R factors in the recipients in transduction systems with phage P1kc in Escherichia coli K-12 and with phage P22 in Salmonella typhimurium LT-2. The absence of superinfection immunity in transduction may be due to the difference in the route of entry of the R factor. The frequencies of transduction of an fi(+) R factor were reduced, although slightly, by the presence of fi(-) R factors in the recipients. This reduction is probably due to host-controlled restriction of the entering fi(+) R factor by the fi(-) R factors in the recipients, since transduction of an fi(+) R factor by the transducing phage propagated on the strain carrying both fi(+) and fi(-) R factors was not reduced by the presence of homologous fi(-) R factors in the recipients. The fi(+) R factor 222, when transduced to the recipient strains carrying other R factors, recombined genetically at high frequencies with these resident R factors, regardless of their fi type.  相似文献

The late-spring quantitative relationship between epiphyton and macroinvertebrates was analyzed on the basis of units of colonizable plant surface of Typha angustifolia, Phragmites australis and Nuphar lutea (floating leaves) in the shallow euthrophic Lake Loosdrecht (the Netherlands), with a high seston load. The non-predatory chironomid larvae (Glyptotendipes viridis, Endochironomus albipennis, Pentapedilum sordens, Cricotopus sylvestris agg.) dominated among the macroinvertebrate taxa, controlling the diversity and resemblance of macroinvertebrate assemblages. There was a gradient in functional feeding groups among the chironomids from continuous filtering of the seston to prevailing utilization of epiphyton. We found no direct relationship between the total macroinvertebrate abundance and the epiphyton mass on the plants surface. We attribute this to the filter feeding-strategy of the most abundant species, Glyptotendipes viridis, that utilizes seston in the eutrophicated lake.  相似文献

Persistent infections with mumps virus were established in several human lymphoid cells of T-cell origin (Molt-4, TALL-1, and CCRF-CEM) and human monocyte cells (U937 and THP-1). 2′,5′-Oligoadenylate synthetase (2–5AS) activity was demonstrated to be only slightly induced by interferon (IFN) or TPA (12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate) treatment in these cells. Treatment of the persistently infected cells with IFN or TPA did not stimulate an increase in the amount of synthetase mRNA. Induction of cell differentiation and augmentation of IFN production by TPA were demonstrated in U937 cells persistently infected with mumps virus (U937-MP). Similar results for IFN production were obtained from differentiated U937 cells. It is suggested that cell differentiation of U937 cells might be associated with the development of IFN inducibility.  相似文献

Five-mm sections of elongation zones of Zea mesocotyls wereincubated for designated periods with various concentrationsof IAA. In vitro protein phosphorylation in the soluble fraction(85,000 x g supernatant) prepared from the sections was analyzedby sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.The phosphorylation of proteins in the soluble fraction thathad been prepared from sections incubated for 20 min in thepresence of 10{small tilde}s M IAA was greater than that inthe sections incubated for 20 min without IAA. The amount ofphosphorylation of proteins per protein became higher when higherconcentrations increased (10{small tilde}8—10{small tilde}5M).The growth of sections incubated in the presence of 10{smalltilde}8 M IAA or higher concentrations was greater than thatof sections incubated in the absence of IAA. The promotion ofgrowth by IAA was greater at higher concentrations of IAA. Proteinsin the soluble fraction, prepared from sections incubated for20 min in the presence of 10{small tilde}5 M IAA, were phosphorylatedin the presence of either 10 fM cAMP, 10 µM cGMP, 100µM W-7, 100 µM W-5, 20 µM H-7 or 20 µMHA1004. The calmodulin antagonist, W-7, and the inhibitor ofprotein kinase C, H-7, inhibited the phosphorylation of proteinsstimulated by incubation with IAA. These results suggest thatIAA promotes cell elongation via protein phosphorylation thatdepends on calmodulin-dependent protein kinase and protein kinaseC. The effects of inorganic and organic nitrogen on the levelsof mRNA for NADH-dependent glutamate synthase (GOGAT) and theprotein were examined in rice cells in suspension culture. Serological studies have suggested the presence of a new HLA-B39 subtype (B39.2) in the Japanese population. To identify the new HLA-B39 subtype and compare it with an other HLA-B39 subtype (B39.1), the genes encoding HLA-B39.1 (B * 39013) and B39.2 (B * 3902) have been cloned from Japanese. We have sequenced these genes and completed the sequence of HLA-B39.1 (B *39011 ) gene from a Caucasian that was partially sequenced. Comparison of the sequence data revealed that B * 3902 and B * 39013 differ by three nucleotide substitutions which result in a two amino acids change at residues 63 and 67, while one silent substitution at codon 312 is found between B * 39011 and B * 39013. These results suggest that B * 3902 has evolved from B * 39013 rather than B * 39011.The nucleotide sequence data reported in this paper have been submitted to the GenBank nucleotide sequence database and have been assigned the accession numbers M94051 (HLA-B*39013), M94052 (HLA-B*39011), and M94053 (HLA-B*3902).  相似文献

A system of highly synchronized chloroplast divisions was developed in the unicellular red alga Cyanidioschyzon merolae De Luca, Taddei, & Varano. Chloroplast divisions were examined by epifluorescence microscopy following treatments with light and inhibitors. When the cells during stationary phase were transferred into a new medium under a 12:12 h LD cycle, chloroplasts, mitochondria, and cell nuclei divided synchronously in that order soon after the initiation of dark periods. More than 40% of the cells contained dividing chloroplasts. To obtain a system of highly synchronized cell division and chloroplast division, the cells synchronized by a 12:12 h LD cycle were treated with various inhibitors. Nocodazole and propyzamide did not affect cell and organelle divisions, whereas aphidicolin markedly inhibited cell-nuclear divisions and cytokinesis and induced a delay in chloroplast division. More than 80% of the cells contained dividing chloroplasts when cells synchronized by light were treated with aphidicolin for 12 h. This synchronized system will be useful for studies of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of organelle divisions .  相似文献
