Squid species are important components of the Southern Atlantic Ocean ecosystems, as they prey on a wide range of crustaceans, fish and cephalopods. As a result of this trophic interaction and their high abundance, they are considered reliable indicators of energy transfer and biomass in the food web. We identified Illex argentinus, Doryteuthis gahi and Onykia ingens as the most important squid species interacting on the Patagonian shelf, and used isotope analysis and stomach content identification to assess the feeding ecology and interaction of these squids in the ecosystem. Our results describe trophic interactions by direct predation of O. ingens and I. argentinus on D. gahi, and a trophic overlap of the three squid, and indicate a higher trophic level and differences in the foraging areas for mature and maturing D. gahi inferred through δ15N and δ13C concentrations. These differences were related to the segregation and different habitat of large mature D. gahi and suggest a food enrichment of C and N based on feeding sources other than those used by small maturing D. gahi and I. argentinus and O. ingens. 相似文献

Viral Susceptibility Range of the Fathead Minnow (Pimephales promelas) Poikilothermic Cell Line 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0 下载免费PDF全文
The viral susceptibility range of a poikilothermic cell line derived from the fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) (FHM) to infection by a number of homoiothermic viruses representing most of the presently recognized viral groups and a member of the psittacosis-lymphogranuloma-trachoma group of agents was studied. All infectious agents, except poliovirus types 1 and 3, infectious bursal agent, and an avian infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) strain, readily multiplied in the FHM cell culture system, producing a detectable cytopathic effect. Although inconclusive evidence was obtained with two other avian IBV strains, these results indicated the ability of the FHM cell culture system to readily support the propagation of a variety of cytopathogenic homoiothermic viral agents. 相似文献

The addition of linolenic acid to thylakoids produces various pH-dependent effects. We have demonstrated a binding site near the Photosystem (PS) II center with a pKa of 6.5: when linolenic acid is unprotonated it induces in the dark a rise of the initial fluorescence level, the latter being similar to the maximum fluorescence obtained during illumination of untreated thylakoids. The comparison of the fluorescence lifetimes in the presence and absence of linolenic acid leads us to conclude that the charge stabilisation on the primary acceptor, Q, is prevented by linolenic acid. A second binding site on the protein carrying B, the secondary acceptor of PS II, has also been demonstrated for linolenic acid. It has a 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea-type effect both in the protonated and unprotonated forms. Finally, measurements of electrophoretic mobility of the thylakoids indicate several other sites of linolenic acid inclusion with an average pKa of 5.7. At alkaline pH the presence of unprotonated linolenic acid increases the charge density on the membrane. As a result a higher concentration of divalent cations is needed to obtain fluorescence and stacking changes than for untreated thylakoids. The presence, at acidic pH values, of the unprotonated form of linolenic acid leads to the inhibition of cation-induced fluorescence changes, probably by preventing the movement of chlorophyll-protein complexes in the membrane. 相似文献

The production of interferon by fasted human subjects in response to lactic bacteria Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus was evaluated in vivo and in vitro. The 2'-5' A synthetase activity of blood mononuclear cells was used to estimate interferon production following a single ingestion of 10(11) bacteria in yoghurt or sterile milk (controls). The level of the 2'-5' A synthetase of the yoghurt fed subjects was 83% (p = 0.002) higher than that of the milk fed controls 24 hours after ingestion. The baseline value remained unchanged in the control group. Blood mononuclear cells from a second group of subjects, were cultured with lactic bacteria for 48 hours, their cell-free supernatants contained gamma interferon. These results suggest that a transient production of interferon can be induced in healthy subjects by the lactic bacteria used in food processing. 相似文献

Of the over 250 Aspergillus species, Aspergillus fumigatus accounts for up to 80% of invasive human infections. A. fumigatus produces galactosaminogalactan (GAG), an exopolysaccharide composed of galactose and N-acetyl-galactosamine (GalNAc) that mediates adherence and is required for full virulence. Less pathogenic Aspergillus species were found to produce GAG with a lower GalNAc content than A. fumigatus and expressed minimal amounts of cell wall-bound GAG. Increasing the GalNAc content of GAG of the minimally pathogenic A. nidulans, either through overexpression of the A. nidulans epimerase UgeB or by heterologous expression of the A. fumigatus epimerase Uge3 increased the amount of cell wall bound GAG, augmented adherence in vitro and enhanced virulence in corticosteroid-treated mice to levels similar to A. fumigatus. The enhanced virulence of the overexpression strain of A. nidulans was associated with increased resistance to NADPH oxidase-dependent neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in vitro, and was not observed in neutropenic mice or mice deficient in NADPH-oxidase that are unable to form NETs. Collectively, these data suggest that cell wall-bound GAG enhances virulence through mediating resistance to NETs. 相似文献

Norepinephrine (NE) plays an important role in motor recovery after brain damage. Most studies concerning NE activity have been performed in the cerebellum, while the role of the pons, the site where the norepinephrinergic locus coeruleus is located, has not yet been elucidated. For this work, we studied the changes in cerebellar and pontine NE content in sham-operated (n = 17), motor cortex injured (n = 6) and recovered rats (n = 12). Motor effects were assessed by means of footprint analysis and sensorimotor evaluation. It was found that after cortical brain damage, the stride length decreases while the stride angle increases after 6 h post-surgery, while the sensorimotor evaluation showed an increase in the motor deficit. Recovery was observed after 24 h. NE content increased in the pons after 6 h and returned to normal levels in recovered rats, with no significant changes observed in the cerebellum. Based on the functional remote inhibition, it is possible that NE exerts an autoinhibitory effect in the pons after motor cortical ablation. On the other hand, the absence of an effect in the cerebellum suggests that cerebellar NE activity related to damage and/or recovery is limited to discrete areas of the structure. 相似文献

The primary role of the innate immune response is to limit the spread of infectious pathogens, with activation of Toll-like receptor (TLR) and RIG-like receptor (RLR) pathways resulting in a pro-inflammatory response required to combat infection. Limiting the activation of these signaling pathways is likewise essential to prevent tissue injury in the host. Triad3A is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that interacts with several components of TLR signaling and modulates TLR activity. In the present study, we demonstrate that Triad3A negatively regulates the RIG-I RNA sensing pathway through Lys48-linked, ubiquitin-mediated degradation of the tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 3 (TRAF3) adapter. Triad3A was induced following dsRNA exposure or virus infection and decreased TRAF3 levels in a dose-dependent manner; moreover, Triad3A expression blocked IRF-3 activation by Ser-396 phosphorylation and inhibited the expression of type 1 interferon and antiviral genes. Lys48-linked ubiquitination of TRAF3 by Triad3A increased TRAF3 turnover, whereas reduction of Triad3A expression by stable shRNA expression correlated with an increase in TRAF3 protein expression and enhancement of the antiviral response following VSV or Sendai virus infection. Triad3A and TRAF3 physically interacted together, and TRAF3 residues Y440 and Q442—previously shown to be important for association with the MAVS adapter—were also critical for Triad3A. Point mutation of the TRAF-Interacting-Motif (TIM) of Triad3A abrogated its ability to interact with TRAF3 and modulate RIG-I signaling. TRAF3 appears to undergo sequential ubiquitin “immuno-editing” following virus infection that is crucial for regulation of RIG-I-dependent signaling to the antiviral response. Thus, Triad3A represents a versatile E3 ubiquitin ligase that negatively regulates RIG-like receptor signaling by targeting TRAF3 for degradation following RNA virus infection. 相似文献
