Disturbance plays an integral part in generating heterogeneity required for ecosystem persistence, but the increased amplitude and duration of disturbances linked to drivers of global change could result in ecosystem shifts or collapse. Biomonitoring over time provides insights into trajectories of ecosystem change. The responses of two instream animal taxa to two contrasting disturbance events, a major flood event and the long-term cumulative effects of land-use changes, were assessed in 1999–2012 by quantifying variation and change in abundance of functional groups based on flow rate sensitivity, water quality and metrics of ecological condition. All metrics recovered to pre-flood conditions within seven months after the flood event. Similarly, cumulative impacts of land use effected significant decreases in some but not all metrics. Indices that did not change, including SASS total score and ASPT, were the result of insufficient consideration of the decrease in the abundance of sensitive taxa specifically, and the abundance of all taxa in general. The decrease in abundance of sensitive taxa could signal imminent collapse in certain metrics. Evidence is also provided for a shift in the structure of fish assemblages linked to the decrease and loss of taxa sensitive to ecosystem degradation caused by the longer-term impacts of land-use change.  相似文献

We postulated that increased levels of hypoxanthine, a main characteristic of hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) deficiency, may influence adenosine function which could be related to some of the neurological features of the Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. We have examined the effect of hypoxanthine on different adenosine transporters in peripheral blood lymphocytes from control subjects. Increased hypoxanthine concentrations (25 μM) significantly decreased adenosine transport. The equilibrative adenosine transporters (79.6% of the adenosine transport), both NBTI sensitive and NBTI insensitive, were affected significantly. In contrast, the concentrative adenosine transporters were not influenced by hypoxanthine. These results supports the hypothesis that increased hypoxanthine levels influence equilibrative (predominantly NBTI-insensitive type) adenosine transporters.  相似文献

After a technology life of a machine imaging positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (PET/CT), the nuclear medicine department of the Centre hospitalier universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) has renewed its unique equipment. He realized at that time, a number of reorganizations for the arrival of the new “PET/CT”. This project is crucial for the nuclear medicine department and should be part of a rigorous approach to both the organization of replacement of equipment and on the adaptation of the host structure. The CHUV has chosen a new generation machine reducing the examination time, the amount of radiotracer and thus the dose to the patient while increasing the performance of lesion detection. To take full advantage of this technology, it was necessary to establish the needs of all stakeholders nuclear medicine department and associated them in the procedure in order to acquire. This process was organized by the Biomedical Engineering Department in order to offer the new technology to meet cost to expectations of doctors and patients.  相似文献

Lipophilic cationic technetium-99m-complexes are widely used for myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). However, inherent uncertainties in the supply chain of molybdenum-99, the parent isotope required for manufacturing 99Mo/99mTc generators, intensifies the need for discovery of novel MPI agents incorporating alternative radionuclides. Recently, germanium/gallium (Ge/Ga) generators capable of producing high quality 68Ga, an isotope with excellent emission characteristics for clinical PET imaging, have emerged. Herein, we report a novel 68Ga-complex identified through mechanism-based cell screening that holds promise as a generator-produced radiopharmaceutical for PET MPI.  相似文献

Rapid detection of multifocal cancer without the use of complex imaging schemes will improve treatment outcomes. In this study, dynamic fluorescence imaging was used to harness differences in the perfusion kinetics of near‐infrared (NIR) fluorescent dyes to visualize structural characteristics of different tissues. Using the hydrophobic nontumor‐selective NIR dye cypate, and the hydrophilic dye LS288, a high tumor‐to‐background contrast was achieved, allowing the delineation of diverse tissue types while maintaining short imaging times. By clustering tissue types with similar perfusion properties, the dynamic fluorescence imaging method identified secondary tumor locations when only the primary tumor position was known, with a respective sensitivity and specificity of 0.97 and 0.75 for cypate, and 0.85 and 0.81 for LS288. Histological analysis suggests that the vasculature in the connective tissue that directly surrounds the tumor was a major factor for tumor identification through perfusion imaging. Although the hydrophobic dye showed higher specificity than the hydrophilic probe, use of other dyes with different physical and biological properties could further improve the accuracy of the dynamic imaging platform to identify multifocal tumors for potential use in real‐time intraoperative procedures.   相似文献
