Nitrogen contribution of cowpea green manure and residue to upland rice   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp., is well adapted to acid upland soil and can be grown for seed, green manure, and fodder production. A 2-yr field experiment was conducted on an Aeric Tropaqualf in the Philippines to determine the effect of cowpea management practice on the response of a subsequent upland rice crop to applied urea. Cowpea was grown to flowering and incorporated as a green manure or grown to maturity with either grain and pods removed or all aboveground vegetation removed before sowing rice. Cowpea green manure accumulated on average 68 kg N ha−1, and aboveground residue after harvest of dry pods contained on average 46 kg N ha−1. Compared with a pre-rice fallow, cowpea green manure and residue increased grain yield of upland rice by 0.7 Mg ha−1 when no urea was applied to rice. Green manure and residue substituted for 66 and 70 kg urea-N ha−1 on upland rice, respectively. In the absence of urea, green manure and residue increased total aboveground N in mature rice by 12 and 14 kg N ha−1, respectively. These increases corresponded to plant recoveries of 13% for applied green manure N and 24% for applied residue N. At 15 d after sowing rice (DAS), 33% of the added green manure N and 16% of the added residue N was recovered as soil (nitrate + ammonium)-N. At 30 DAS, the corresponding recoveries were 20 and 37% for green manure N and residue N, respectively. Cowpea cropping with removal of all aboveground cowpea vegetation slightly increased (p<0.05) soil (nitrate + ammonium)-N at 15 DAS as compared with the pre-rice fallow, but it did not increase rice yield. Cowpea residue remaining after harvest of dry pods can be an effective N source for a subsequent upland rice crop.  相似文献

A comparative study of the number and distribution of chromocentres in interphase nuclei and mean chiasma frequency at diakinesis has been made in three varietal populations of radish (Raphanus sativus L.), Scarlet Globe, Japanese White and Chinese White. The study showed a significant difference between the varietal populations in mean chiasma frequency and number of chromocentres (P<0.001), indicating that these nuclear characters are genotypically controlled. The correlation analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between chromocentres and chiasma frequency (r= -0.87). It was concluded that an increase in the amount of constitutive heterochromatin, as inferred by chromocentre counts, adversely affects the chiasma frequency and, consequently, genetic recombination in radish.  相似文献

Intramolecularly hydrogen bonded conformations of (Aib-Pro)n sequences have been analysed theoretically. Both 4→1 (C10 and 3→1 (C7 hydrogen bonded regular structures are shown to be stereochemically feasible. Conformational energies for the helical structures have been estimated using classical potential energy methods. Both C10 and C7 conformations have very similar energies. Pyrrolidine ring puckering has a pronounced effect on the energies, and only -endo puckered Pro residues can be accommodated. The theoretical calculations using spectroscopic data suggest that the recently proposed novel 310 helical conformation for benzyloxycarbonyl(Aib-Pro)4-methyl ester is in solution, is indeed energetically and stereochemically favourable.  相似文献

The dissociation of the coated vesicles to clathrin and uncoated vesicles and their reassociation have been studied under various conditions. The extent of reassociation is pH dependent and increases slightly with increasing concentrations of the components. Unlike the self-association of clathrin which is strongly salt dependent, the reassociation of clathrin and uncoated vesicles is practically independent of salt concentration. The coated vesicle gradually loses its coat with increasing pH, and the dissociation process is not an all or none reaction. Ca2+ inhibits dissociation of the coated vesicles and enhances the reassociation of clathrin and uncoated vesicles. Our results show that, although many conditions result in reassociation of protein and lipid vesicle, few conditions result in vesicles of both the same size and composition as native coated vesicles.  相似文献

The possible mechanism of attenuation of thyrotropin response to exogenous thyrotropin-releasing hormone after repeated administrations of the releasing hormone has been studied. To this end, the effect of prolonged hormone treatment on the binding of hormone to its receptor in the anterior pituitary gland has been evaluated. The data show that prolonged hormonal treatment resulted in a reduction in the number (Bmax) but not the binding affinity (KD) of the receptor. The effect was reversible and depended on the duration of treatment. This phenomenon of down regulation or the decrease in the receptor number was found not to be due to either the metabolism of releasing hormone or its ability to activate pituitary-thyroid-axis.  相似文献

Feasibility of using chocolate industry wastewater as a substrate for electricity generation using activated sludge as a source of microorganisms was investigated in two-chambered microbial fuel cell. The maximum current generated with membrane and salt bridge MFCs was 3.02 and 2.3 A/m2, respectively, at 100 Ω external resistance, whereas the maximum current generated in glucose powered MFC was 3.1 A/m2. The use of chocolate industry wastewater in cathode chamber was promising with 4.1 mA current output. Significant reduction in COD, BOD, total solids and total dissolved solids of wastewater by 75%, 65%, 68%, 50%, respectively, indicated effective wastewater treatment in batch experiments. The 16S rDNA analysis of anode biofilm and suspended cells revealed predominance of β-Proteobacteria clones with 50.6% followed by unclassified bacteria (9.9%), α-Proteobacteria (9.1%), other Proteobacteria (9%), Planctomycetes (5.8%), Firmicutes (4.9%), Nitrospora (3.3%), Spirochaetes (3.3%), Bacteroides (2.4%) and γ-Proteobacteria (0.8%). Diverse bacterial groups represented as members of the anode chamber community.  相似文献

The HIV-1 Nef protein has the ability to down regulate important molecules at the immune synapse. These include class I and class II (Human Leukocyte Antigen) HLA on the Antigen Presenting Cells (APC). The receptors in these molecules consist of SH-3 domain and their interaction with the HIV-1 Nef is critical. Therefore, it is important to inhibit this HIV-Nef and human SH3 domain interaction. Thus, we used a combinatorial library to screen for molecules to inhibit this interaction. The exercise identified a group of top ranking compounds for further consideration.  相似文献

Summary: Rab GTPases are essential for vesicular transport. Rab GDP dissociation inhibitor (GDI) binds to GDP‐bound rabs, removes rabs from acceptor membranes and delivers rabs to donor membranes. We isolated lethal GDI mutations in Drosophila and analyzed their developmental phenotypes. To learn how these mutations affect GDI structure, the crystal structure of Drosophila GDI was determined by molecular replacement to a resolution of 3.0 Å. Two hypomorphic, missense mutations are located in domain II of GDI at highly conserved positions, but not in previously identified sequence conserved regions. The mutant GDIs were tested for ability to extract rabs from membranes and showed wild‐type levels of rab membrane extraction. The two missense alleles showed intragenic complementation, indicating that domain II of GDI may have two separable functions. Essential oils isolated from leaves (LO), bast (BO), heartwood (HO), and ethereal extract of resin (EER) of Shorea robusta were bioassayed with electroantennograph (EAG) and wind tunnel to study the behavioral response of male and female beetles, Hoplocerambyx spinicornis Newm., the most injurious heartwood borer of the tree. LO, BO, HO, and EER were shown to exhibit the electrophysiological activity in the female beetle, while LO and BO in the male beetle. In wind-tunnel studies, only BO elicited the attractant activity to both the sexes. A possible correlation of the constituents of the BO identified by GC/MS with the bioactivity is also presented.  相似文献
