Genetics of the immune response of karakul sheep vaccinated with colibacillosis and salmonellosis vaccines. II. An analysis of the intensity of the immune response in 1st-generation hybrids

In experiments on hybrid karakul sheep immunized with E. coli and Salmonella vaccines immune response in hybrids F1, obtained from parents oppositely reacting to these vaccines, has been analyzed. The intensity of immune response in karakul sheep has been shown to be inherited as a dominant characteristic, not linked with sex, and regulated, seemingly, by a relatively small number of Ir genes. The content of EA- and EAC-rosetteforming cells does not depend on the intensity of immune response to any of the antigens.     

Assessment of the quantity of T-lymphocytes and other rosette-forming cells in the blood of patients and healthy subjects]

In using the reaction of spontaneous rosette formation to assess the immunity T-system one should not limit one-self to determination of the percentage content of the rosette-forming cells alone. Immune status can be properly judged by determination of the content of immunocompetent cells per one cubic mm of the blood of the given donor. When the reaction is staged on the leukocyte suspension not only lymphocytes, but also other cell forms with the capacity of binding sheep erythrocytes can be determined.     

Changes in the phagocytic activity of macrophages under the action of different doses of antibiotics]

Penicillin, streptomycin and gentamicin, when introduced into mice in a single injection in doses of 0.5-500,000 U/kg, produced different changes in the phagocytic activity of mouse peritoneal macrophages. Bactericidal doses of these antibiotics either suppressed the activity of macrophages or left it unchanged. Their sub-bactericidal doses enhanced the phagocytic activity of macrophages. Combined use of penicillin and streptomycin produced a synergic effect.     

New data on age and conditions of buried organic-rich sediments formation in the сentral Ob River

This article presents the results of a comprehensive geochronological study of gyttja deposits from a section of a terrace above a floodplain located on the right bank of the Ob River near the town of Kolpashevo. According to the ²³⁰Th/U dating, the age of the gyttja could be dated in the range of 110–95 kyr. The results of spore–pollen analysis suggest that the gyttja deposit was formed in the period of a wide distribution of middle taiga forest landscapes with the dominance of spruce; the climatic conditions were similar to modern ones. These events probably took place in the interstadial time during MIS-5c or at the end of Kazantsevo interglacial period.     

The influence of oxygen barotherapy on erythropoiesis in the recuperative period of hemorrhagic collapse]

Under the effect of high-pressure oxygen therapy (2 atm of O2 for 40 min) in anemic rats (blood loss - 2,8% of body weight in the course of 30 min) erythropoiesis in the bone marrow was more intense and led to effective restoration of erythrocytes and hemoglobin in the peripheral blood. Biphasic character of accumulation of erythropoientins in the blood serum of rats was seen on the 1st and the 10th days after acute blood loss. Erythropoiesis inhibitor was revealed in the blood serum of rats on the 15th day. A conclusion was drawn on the importance of erythropoietins and high pressure oxygen therapy in the mechanism of blood regeneration following the loss of blood.     

Septoria Leaf Speck, a New Disease of Sunflower, Caused by Septoria helianthina sp. nov.

Many strains of a pathogenic fungus were isolated from diseased sunflower leaf tissue. According to their characteristics they belonged to the genus Septoria . Leaf speck symptoms, characteristic for spontaneous infection, were also reproduced by artificial inoculation of sunflower plants in the greenhouse.
Comparing the morphological, cultural and pathogenic properties of the isolated fungus with other sunflower pathogens, it was indicated that the strains, originating from diseased sunflower leaves represented a new, so far not described species. Therefore, for the causal agent of this disease, the name Septoria helianthina Petrov & Arsenijevic was suggested.
