In July 2000, six plots of Mediterranean maquis in the Castel Volturno Nature Reserve were burnt at two intensity levels to
examine the effects of fire intensities on chemical and biological soil components and their relationships with ecophysiological
processes of Phillyrea angustifolia L. Net photosynthesis and stomatal conductance, as well as P availability, were higher in burnt plots than in control plots,
even 2 years after fire; the TM density of total soil microfungi was significantly lower in the first 8 months after fire,
while xerotolerant and heat-stimulated soil microfungi were still higher 2 years after fire. Significant correlations between
photosynthesis and stomatal conductance in resprouts and mycorrhizal status, as well as changes in the soil fungal components
of the communities, suggest that both soil and mycorrhizal fungi play a role in immobilizing and translocating nutrients temporarily
released in the below-ground system by fire. Nutrient balance interacts with physiological processes, and a feedback mechanism
is well represented by stomatal conductance, which allows both the influx of water and mineral nutrients from the soil; moreover,
the post-fire increase in photosynthetic activity promotes vigorous resprouting and may lead to increased availability of
carbohydrates for soil biota and, consequently, to enhanced vegetation resilience. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The aim of our double-blinded randomized prospective placebo-controlled study was to test if a week long pre-treatment with hypercalcemic drugs may prevent transient post-thyroidectomy hypocalcemia and reduce hospital stay. METHODS: Forty-two patients undergoing total thyroidectomy were randomized into two groups. Group 1: 22 patients treated with calcitriol 1.5 mcg/die plus hydrochlorothiazide; Group 2: 20 patients only treated with placebo (mineral integrates) as control group. Calcium and PTHi serum levels were assayed baseline and the days before and after thyroidectomy. RESULTS: Baseline calcium and PTHi did not differ between the two groups. Pre-surgery calcemia significantly increased in group 1 (p<0.05) while PTHi significantly decreased (p<0.05). Post-surgery calcemia and PTHi further significantly decreased in both groups, hypocalcemia (<2.10 mmol/l) occurring in 1 out of 22 patients in group 1 without symptoms and in 10 out of 20 in controls (20% developing symptoms) (p<0.01). The hospital stay resulted significantly shorter in group 1 (2.4+/-0.6 days) in respect to the control group (3.6+/-1.4 days, p<0.05). CONCLUSION: The administration of calcitriol plus hydrochlorothiazide is able to prevent transient post-thyroidectomy hypocalcemia and to reduce hospital stay. 相似文献

Mediterranean ecosystems are among those most significantly modified by fires. Such fires lead to evident disturbance of the above- and below-ground ecosystem components, at various spatial and temporal scales, including soil microfungi. The ecological parameters used to measure the effects of disturbance on soil fungal communities include species-abundance distribution patterns, which reflect changes in the relationships between species numbers and their relative abundance, and serve as a critical measure of community organization. Species-abundance distribution patterns were used to assess the disturbance impact of experimental fires on soil fungal communities in Mediterranean maquis (southern Italy) in the short- to mid-term. The trend in the distribution patterns of heat-stimulated and xerotolerant soil fungi over time, their varying responses to low- and high-intensity fire, the efficiency of the soil germplasm bank, and the pivotal role of Neosartorya spp. in post-fire community structure in Mediterranean burned soils may all be used as tools to accurately assess the effects of fire on soil mycobiota. 相似文献

The authors refer the first report in Italy of Nematodirus roscidus Railliet, 1911, Apteragia quadrispiculata Jansen, 1958 and Ostertagia drozdzi Jancev, 1977 from Dama dama. In fallow deer they found also: Trichostrongylus axei, Trichostrongylus colubriformis, Trichostrongylus vitrinus, Spiculopteragia asymmetrica, Skrjabinagia arctica, Oesophagostomum venulosum, Trichuris ovis. Trichostrongylus axei, Trichostrongylus colubriformis, Trichostrongylus vitrinus and Skrjabinagia arctica were not found before in Dama dama in Italy. 相似文献

The metabolic efficiency of different microbial groups in carbon source uses and single species storage efficiency is poorly characterised and not adequately represented in most biogeochemical models. It is proposed here a simple approach for an estimation of the metabolic quotient of fungal isolates. The method is based on the values of substrate use (respiration) and growth (biomass production) obtainable for single fungal isolates in vitro using the Phenotype MicroArray? system to test the metabolic performance of fungi on different substrates. As a case study, this carbon-use efficiency method was used to compare a group of leaf litter fungi. The metabolic efforts of single fungal species were measured on 95 different substrates of different complexity. The respiration to biomass ratio showed a high reliability and the possibility of being used as a measurable property of the micro-organisms and an indicator of organism’s performance or fitness. 相似文献

The fungal communities of grassland soils in Spain from four sites at different elevations were studied. Each site contained grazed and fenced ungrazed plots. These plots were situated in two slope positions (upper and lower zones). The ungrazed plots, fenced off 6 y before the sampling, were part of a study of global change that simulates conditions of rural abandonment, which is widespread in Iberian countries, since Spain joined the European Union. We analyzed the structure of the soil fungi communities and its relationship with herbaceous vegetation. The distribution of 207 taxa of fungi revealed that the elevation was the main factor of fungal variability; the effect of grazing and slope position were associated with less variability. Although a halt in grazing resulted in the accumulation of standing plants and plant litter in these ecosystems, it had relatively little effect on soil microfungi and appeared to be related mainly to growing conditions affected by that accumulation. 相似文献

PDGFRA mutations in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract can cause GI stromal tumour (GIST) and inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP). Hitherto no cell type has been identified as a physiological counterpart of the latter, while interstitial Cajal cells (ICC) are considered the precursor of the former. However, ICC hyperplasia (ICCH), which strongly supports the ICC role in GIST pathogenesis, has been identified in germline KIT‐mutant settings but not in PDGFRA‐mutant ones, challenging the precursor role of ICC for PDGFRA‐driven GISTs. Telocytes are a recently described interstitial cell type, CD34+/PDGFRA+. Formerly considered fibroblasts, they are found in many organs, including the GI tract where they are thought to be involved in neurotransmission. Alongside IFPs and gastric GISTs, GI wall “fibrosis” has been reported in germline PDGFRA‐mutants. Taking the opportunity offered by its presence in a germline PDGFRA‐mutant individual, we demonstrate that this lesion is sustained by hyperplastic telocytes, constituting the PDGFRA‐mutant counterpart of germline KIT mutation‐associated ICCH. Moreover, our findings support a pathogenetic relationship between telocyte hyperplasia and both IFPs and PDGFRA‐mutant GISTs. We propose the term “telocytoma” for defining IFP, as it conveys both the pathogenetic (neoplastic) and histotypic (“telocytary”) essence of this tumour, unlike IFP, which rather evokes an inflammatory‐hyperplastic lesion. 相似文献
