Five newly synthesised biphenyl derivatives were evaluated for their acute contact toxicity (LC50) against rice weevil and honey bee and anti acetylcholinesterase potential (I50) against honey bee, fish, pigeon and rat. Amongst, O,O-dimethyl-O, p-Nitro-biphenyl phosphate was most potent against rice weevil, whereas p-(4-Nitrophenyl) phenyl-N-methyl carbamate against honey bee. Based on I50 values the biphenyl derivatives of phosphoric acid esters were more potent anti acetylcholinesterase (AChE) agents against rat and fish brain AChE while derivative of carbamic esters towards pigeon brain AChE. The anti AChE potency of both groups appear to be of the same order towards bee head AChE.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the effect of passenger and phone conversations on sleep-restricted driving. Six volunteers (50% male, mean age 24.8 ± 4.3 years) had their sleep restricted to 4 h in bed followed by a 20-min simulated drive on three separate occasions. Each drive included either a passenger conversation, a mobile phone conversation or a quiet passenger. The effect size of a phone conversation on lane deviation was large while passenger conversation was small. The main effect of conversation on lane deviation was non-significant (F(2,10) = 2.57, p = 0.126). Combining sleep-restricted driving with conversations warrants further investigation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Some shiftwokers in the long-haul transportation industries (i.e. road, rail, sea, air) have the opportunity to sleep in on-board rest facilities during duty periods. These rest facilities are typically fitted with a seat with a maximum back angle to the vertical of 20°, 40°, or 90°. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of “back angle” on the quantity and quality of sleep obtained in a seat during a daytime nap. Six healthy adults (3 females aged 27.0 years and 3 males aged 22.7 years) each participated in three conditions. For each condition, participants had a 4-h sleep opportunity in a bed (02:00–06:00 h) followed by a 4-h sleep opportunity in a seat (13:00–17:00 h). The only difference between conditions was in the back angle of the seat to the vertical during the seat-based sleep periods: 20° (upright), 40° (reclined), and 90° (flat). Polysomnographic data were collected during all sleep episodes. For the seat-based sleep episodes, there was a significant effect of back angle on three of four measures of sleep quantity, i.e. total sleep time, slow-wave sleep, and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, and three of four measures of sleep quality, i.e. latency to REM sleep, arousals, and stage shifts. In general, the quantity and quality of sleep obtained in the reclined and flat seats were better than those obtained in the upright seat. In particular, compared to the flat seat, the reclined seat resulted in similar amounts of total sleep and slow-wave sleep, but 37% less REM sleep; and the upright seat resulted in 29% less total sleep, 30% less slow-wave sleep, and 79% less REM sleep. There are two main mechanisms that may explain the results. First, it is difficult to maintain the head in a comfortable position for sleep when sitting upright, and this is likely exacerbated during REM sleep, when muscle tone is very low. Second, an upright posture increases sympathetic activity and decreases parasympathetic activity, resulting in a heightened level of physiological arousal.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate a response to low-light environments in hybrids and commercial cultivars of Boehmeria nivea L. Two hybrids (Chuanzhu 11 and Chuanzhu 8) and two commercial cultivars (Chuanzhu 12 and Chuanzhu 6) of ramie were subjected to a shade treatment for 6, 12, and 18 days. The shade treatment led to a significant decrease in some plant traits and fiber yield in four ramie cultivars, whereas their leaf area and plant height increased. In addition, net photosynthesis and stomatal conductance significantly declined in response to shade, while transpiration rate and intercellular CO2 did not significantly change. Moreover, chlorophyll (Chl) and carotenoid (Car) concentration, Chl/Car, and Chl (a+b) per leaf dry mass significantly increased in the response to shade, while the Chl a/b ratio decreased. Furthermore, Chuanzhu 6 and Chuanzhu 11 were more tolerant to shade than Chuanzhu 12 and Chuanzhu 8, thus, they could be potentially used for management practices and breeding programs.  相似文献

The detection of virulence determinants harbored by pathogenic Escherichia coli is important for establishing the pathotype responsible for infection. A sensitive and specific miniaturized virulence microarray containing 60 oligonucleotide probes was developed. Seeds of onion (Allium cepa) cv. Ailsa Craig were exposed to various doses of gamma radiation (0, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 100 krad) and subjected to accelerated ageing (RH 100%, 42°C) for 12 h. Radiation doses significantly affected the percentage of normal seedlings, abnormality types (%) and seedling growth. Seed viability, conductivities of seed leachates, final germination (%), germination speed and time to reach 50% germination (T 50) were not affected by the seed irradiation. Accelerated ageing after irradiation had significant influence on seed viability, conductivities of seed leachates, final germination (%) and percentage of normal seedlings. Germination speed, T 50 and seedling growth were not affected by the accelerated ageing. However, all the parameters studied were significantly influenced by the interaction of radiation doses and accelerated ageing. Accelerated ageing generally enhanced the damaging effects of irradiation on seeds. Therefore, it was concluded that onion seeds should not be exposed to adverse environmental conditions after irradiation.  相似文献

Structure of callus cells of frost-sensitive and frost-tolerant Solanum species and a frost-tolerant cell line (D20-1), selected from S. tuberosum cv. Desirée callus, was studied. Like frost-tolerant species S. commersonii, cells of the frost-tolerant cell line contained starch grains in their plastids. The cells of this frost-tolerant line also possessed an increased number of microbodies containing protein crystals which suggests the involvement of proteins in frost tolerance but the mechanism may differ from that in frost-tolerant species.  相似文献

O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) is one of the major DNA repair protein that counteracts the alkalyting agent-induced DNA damage by replacing O6-methylguanine (mutagenic lesion) back to guanine, eventually suppressing the mismatch errors and double strand crosslinks. Exonic alterations in the form of nucleotide polymorphism may result in altered protein structure that in turn can lead to the loss of function. In the present study, we focused on the population feared for high exposure to alkylating agents owing to their typical and specialized dietary habits. To this end, gastric cancer patients pooled out from the population were selected for the mutational screening of a specific error prone region of MGMT gene. We found that nearly 40% of the studied neoplastic samples harbored missense mutation at codon151 resulting into Serine to Isoleucine variation. This variation resulted in bringing about the structural disorder, subsequently ensuing into a major stoichiometric variance in recognition domain, substrate binding and selectivity loop of the active site of the MGMT protein, as observed under virtual microscope of molecular dynamics simulation (MDS). The atomic insight into MGMT protein by computational approach showed a significant change in the intra molecular hydrogen bond pattern, thus leading to the observed structural anomalies. To further examine the mutational implications on regulatory plugs of MGMT that holds the protein in a DNA-Binding position, a MDS based analysis was carried out on, all known physically interacting amino acids essentially clustered into groups based on their position and function. The results generated by physical-functional clustering of protein indicated that the identified mutation in the vicinity of the active site of MGMT protein causes the local and global destabilization of a protein by either eliminating the stabilizing salt bridges in cluster C3, C4, and C5 or by locally destabilizing the “protein stabilizing hing” mapped on C3-C4 cluster, preceding the active site.  相似文献

To examine the possible relationship between the activity of 1-aminocyclopropane carboxylic acid synthase (ACS; EC 4.4.1.14) and growth of mustard (Brassica juncea L.), ACS activity, ethylene and plant growth were studied in the presence of ACS activity modulators in no-defoliation and defoliated plants. Growth of plants was greatest when subjected to defoliation of 50% lower leaves in the plant axis compared to defoliation of 25% lower leaves or no-defoliation. The activity of ACS in no-defoliation and defoliated plants was correlative with growth of plants. ACS activity and ethylene evolution in no-defoliation plants treated with 10 μM indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and defoliated plants treated with water were equal and resulted in maximum plant growth. On the contrary, the application of 10 μM IAA on defoliated plants resulted in the increase in ACS activity and ethylene evolution to an extent that inhibited the growth. The application of 100 μM IAA on no-defoliation and defoliated plants increased ACS activity and ethylene evolution maximally and proved inhibitory for the plant growth. The association of ACS activity, ethylene evolution and growth of plants was further substantiated with the use of 50 μM aminoethoxyvinyl glycine (AVG) applied alone or in combination with 10 or 100 μM IAA. The application of AVG resulted in the inhibition of ACS activity and the growth of no-defoliation or defoliated plants. The results indicate that there exists a correlation between ACS activity, ethylene and the growth of mustard plants.  相似文献
