Pedicularis palustris contains the iridoid glucosides aucubin and gardoside methyl ester, and five hydroxy derivatives of 8-epi-deoxyloganin, together with boschnaloside and three hydroxy derivatives of boschnaloside. From P. silvatica, plantarenaloside, 8-epiloganin and euphroside have been isolated. Euphroside is also present in P. lapponica, in addition to aucubin and mussaenoside. Chemical evidence for the structure of euphroside is presented. Pedicularioside is shown to be identical with penstemoside, and the former name is thus redundant.  相似文献

Repeated static contractions (RSC) induce large fluctuations in tissue oxygen tension and increase the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This study investigated the effect of RSC on muscle contractility, mitochondrial respiratory function, and in vitro sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca(2+) kinetics in human muscle. Ten male subjects performed five bouts of static knee extension with 10-min rest in between. Each bout of RSC (target torque 66% of maximal voluntary contraction torque) was maintained to fatigue. Muscle biopsies were taken preexercise and 0.3 and 24 h postexercise from vastus lateralis. Mitochondria were isolated and respiratory function measured after incubation with H(2)O(2) (HPX) or control medium (Con). Mitochondrial function was not affected by RSC during Con. However, RSC exacerbated mitochondrial dysfunction during HPX, resulting in decreased respiratory control index, decreased mitochondrial efficiency (phosphorylated ADP-to-oxygen consumed ratio), and increased noncoupled respiration (HPX/Con post- vs. preexercise). SR Ca(2+) uptake rate was lower 0.3 vs. 24 h postexercise, whereas SR Ca(2+) release rate was unchanged. RSC resulted in long-lasting changes in muscle contractility, including reduced maximal torque, low-frequency fatigue, and faster torque relaxation. It is concluded that RSC increases mitochondrial vulnerability toward ROS, reduces SR Ca(2+) uptake rate, and causes low-frequency fatigue. Although conclusive evidence is lacking, we suggest that these changes are related to increased formation of ROS during RSC.  相似文献

For developing product policy, insight into the environmental effects of products is required. But available life-cycle assessment studies (LCAs) are hardly comparable between different products and do not cover total consumption. Input-output analysis with environmental extensions (EEIOA) of full consumption is not available for the European Union. Available country studies have a low sector resolution and a limited number of environmental extensions. This study fills the gap between detailed LCA and low-resolution EEIOA, specifying the environmental effects of household consumption in the European Union, discerning nearly 500 sectors, while specifying a large number of environmental extensions. Added to the production sectors are a number of consumption activities with direct emissions, such as automobile driving, cooking and heating, and a number of postconsumer waste management sectors. The data for Europe have been constructed by using the sparse available and coarse economic and environmental data on European countries and adding technological detail mainly based on data from the United States.
A small number of products score high on environmental impact per Euro and also have a substantial share of overall consumer expenditure. Several meat and dairy products, household heating, and car driving thus have a large share of the total environmental impact. Due to their sales volume, however, products with a medium or low environmental score per Euro may also have a substantial impact. This is the case with bars and restaurants, clothing, residential construction, and even a service such as telecommunications. The limitations in real European data made heroic assumptions necessary to operationalize the model. One conclusion, therefore, is that provision of data in Europe urgently needs to be improved, at least to the level of sector detail currently available for the United States and Japan.  相似文献

Postelsia palmaeformis Ruprecht is an intertidal kelp found only on very wave‐exposed rocky shores of the northeast Pacific. In areas dominated by mussels, Postelsia depends on wave‐induced disturbances to complete its life‐history cycle. Postelsia also recruits where mussels are absent, but not at less wave‐exposed shores. Thus, physical conditions related to wave exposure limit its horizontal distribution. It is not clear what limits the vertical distribution of Postelsia. We investigated factors contributing to Postelsia's limited distribution using transplant experiments, demographic monitoring, and field fluorometry to evaluate growth and performance across gradients of tidal elevation and wave exposure. Survivorship and growth were sharply reduced at upper and wave‐protected edges relative to mid‐level, wave‐exposed sporophytes. Reproductive output was reduced at upper and lower levels, and growth but not survivorship was lower at the lower level. Effects were independent of population of origin and were a manifestation of the environment. Maximum electron transport rates (ETRm), light saturation parameters (Ek), and maximum quantum yields (ΔF/Fm) provided insight into physiological dynamics; all were lowest at the high edge, but increased when desiccation stress was alleviated by a mock sea‐spray treatment. The ETRm and Ek values of low sporophytes were not as high as the values for mid‐sporophytes, despite higher or equivalent nitrogen content, chl a, and absorptance, suggesting a trade‐off between light‐capturing and carbon‐fixation capacity. Physiological limitations at upper and lower levels and deleterious desiccation effects at wave‐protected sites prevent establishment, thus constraining Postelsia to a mid‐zone, wave‐exposed distribution. Physical conditions related to wave exposure may limit the horizontal distribution of Postelsia because this kelp is also found in areas where mussels are lacking but not on less wave‐exposed shores.  相似文献

Renal metabolism of the cardiac marker NH2-terminal-pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) has been suggested. Therefore, we determined the renal extraction ratios of NT-proBNP and its bioactive coproduct brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) at rest and during exercise. In addition, the cerebral ratios were evaluated. Ten young healthy men were investigated at baseline, during moderate cycle exercise (heart rate: 140, Borg scale: 14-15), and in the recovery with BNP and NT-proBNP measured from the brachial artery and the jugular and renal veins, and the renal and cerebral extraction ratios (Ext-Ren and Ext-Cer, respectively) were calculated. Cardiac output, stroke volume, heart rate, mean arterial pressures, and estimated glomerular filtration were determined. BNP and NT-proBNP were extracted by the kidneys but not by the brain. We observed no effect of exercise. The mean values (+/- SE) of Ext-Ren of NT-proBNP were similar (0.19 +/- 0.05, 0.21 +/- 0.06, and 0.12 +/- 0.03, respectively) during the three sessions (P > 0.05). Also the Ext-Ren of BNP were similar (0.18 +/- 0.07, 0.15 +/- 0.11, and 0.14 +/- 0.06, respectively; P > 0.05). There were no significant differences between Ext-Ren of BNP and NT-proBNP during the three sessions (P > 0.05). The Ext-Cer of both peptides varied insignificantly between -0.21 +/- 0.15 and 0.11 +/- 0.08. The renal extraction ratio of both BNP and NT-proBNP is approximately 0.15-0.20. There is no cerebral extraction, and short-term moderate exercise does not affect these values. Our findings suggest that the kidneys extract BNP and NT-proBNP to a similar extent in healthy young men.  相似文献

Nitrogen-fixing root nodules develop on legumes as a result of an interaction between host plants and soil bacteria collectively referred to as rhizobia. The organogenic process resulting in nodule development is triggered by the bacterial microsymbiont, but genetically controlled by the host plant genome. Using T-DNA insertion as a tool to identify novel plant genes that regulate nodule ontogeny, we have identified two putatively tagged symbiotic loci, Ljsym8 and Ljsym13, in the diploid legume Lotus japonicus. The sym8 mutants are arrested during infection by the bacteria early in the developmental process. The sym13 mutants are arrested in the final stages of infection, and ineffective nodules are formed. These two plant mutant lines were identified in progeny from 1112 primary transformants obtained after Agrobacterium tumefaciens T-DNA-mediated transformation of L. japonicus and subsequent screening for defects in the symbiosis with Mesorhizobium loti. Additional nontagged mutants arrested at different developmental stages were also identified and genetic complementation tests assigned all the mutations to 16 monogenic symbiotic loci segregating recessive mutant alleles. In the screen reported here independent symbiotic loci thus appeared with a frequency of ∼1.5%, suggesting that a relatively large set of genes is required for the symbiotic interaction. Antibacterial activity of marine-derived fungi   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
A total of 227 marine isolates of ubiqituous fungi were cultivated on different media and the secondary metabolite content of the extracts (ethyl acetate/chloroform/methanol 3 : 2 : 1) characterized by HPLC. The fungi were secured from animals, plants and sediments of Venezuelan waters (0–10 m) including mangroves and lagoonal areas. The extracts were tested for antibacterial activity. A total of 7 were active towards Vibrio parahaemolyticus and 55 towards Staphylococcus aureus, representing 18 different fungal species from 8 ascomycetous genera. For 61 strains of Penicillium citrinum antibacterial activity correlated well with content of secondary metabolites as measured by HPLC. Thirteen isolates of Penicillium steckii produced very similar profiles of secondary metabolites and 6 of these had activity against either V. parahaemolyticus or S. aureus or both.
