Protein–protein interactions (PPIs) represent an essential aspect of plant systems biology. Identification of key protein players and their interaction networks provide crucial insights into the regulation of plant developmental processes and into interactions of plants with their environment. Despite the great advance in the methods for the discovery and validation of PPIs, still several challenges remain. First, the PPI networks are usually highly dynamic, and the in vivo interactions are often transient and difficult to detect. Therefore, the properties of the PPIs under study need to be considered to select the most suitable technique, because each has its own advantages and limitations. Second, besides knowledge on the interacting partners of a protein of interest, characteristics of the interaction, such as the spatial or temporal dynamics, are highly important. Hence, multiple approaches have to be combined to obtain a comprehensive view on the PPI network present in a cell. Here, we present the progress in commonly used methods to detect and validate PPIs in plants with a special emphasis on the PPI features assessed in each approach and how they were or can be used for the study of plant interactions with their environment. 相似文献

BackgroundThe Spanish National Hip Fracture Registry (or Registro Nacional de Fractura de Cadera, RNFC) is a database of hip fracture patients admitted to Spanish hospitals. Its goals include assessment and continuous improvement of the care process.ObjectivesTo (1) establish a series of indicators, (2) evaluate their initial fulfillment, (3) propose quality standards, (4) suggest recommendations to facilitate standards compliance, and (5) monitor the indicators.MethodThe indicators fulfilled the criteria of (1) evaluating the process or outcome, (2) being clinically relevant for patients, (3) being modifiable through changes in healthcare practice, and (4) being considered important by the RNFC participants. The first quartile obtained by the group of hospitals in each of the respective variables was proposed as the standard. The Indicators Advisory Committee (IAC) elaborated a list of recommendations for each indicator, based on the available evidence.ResultsSeven indicators were chosen. These indicators (its baseline compliance vs. the standard to be reached, respectively) were: the proportion of patients receiving surgery within 48 h (44% vs. 63%), mobilized the first postoperative day (56% vs. 86%), with antiosteoporotic medication at discharge (32% vs. 61%), with calcium supplements at discharge (46% vs. 77%), with vitamin D supplements at discharge (67% vs. 92%), who developed pressure ulcers during hospitalization (7.2% vs. 2.1%) and with independent mobility at 30 days (58% vs. 70%). The IAC has established 25 recommendations for improving care.ConclusionThe indicators and standards chosen are presented, as well as the list of recommendations. Females of the closely related capuchino seedeaters are difficult to distinguish from one another based on human visual perception of colouration and morphology. We examined plumage colour differences among females of four species, the tawny‐bellied seedeater Sporophila hypoxantha, the dark‐throated seedeater S. ruficollis, the rufous‐rumped seedeater S. hypochroma, and the chesnut‐bellied seedeater S. cinnamomea. Reflectance values were measured on museum skins, and interspecific differences were analyzed using the Vorobyev‐Osorio avian colour discrimination model. Interspecific distances in the colour space calculated by the model were considerably higher than the threshold for colour discrimination, indicating the presence of colour differences among species that should be detectable by birds. Colour differences between S. hypoxantha and the other three species were the largest. A Discriminant Function Analysis showed that UV‐wavelength was particularly important in species separation. Our results indicate that female plumage of these four species is considerably divergent in colour; these differences being imperceptible to the human eye, thus representing previously unknown morphological evolution in these species. 相似文献

The members of the genus Rhodotorula show a marked ubiquity. In man, they have been isolated from faeces, nails, skin, sputum, digestive tract and adenoids, forming
part of the normal human flora, although in recent years cases have been reported of both local and systemic infection by
this yeast. There are virtually no studies in the literature on the sensitivity of this genus to the antifungal agents in
common clinical use. Therefore, it is considered of interest to study the microbiological characteristics and the susceptibility
patterns of Rhodotorula isolated from clinical samples. A total of 35 different strains of Rhodotorula were studied. In vitro susceptibility testing to 5-fluorocytosine, amphotericin B, ketoconazole, fluconazole and itraconazole was performed. All
the strains were considered sensitive to 5-fluorocytosine, amphotericin B, ketoconazole and itraconazole and resistant to
fluconazole. As a conclusion, we can state that all the antifungal agents tested, except fluconazole, are useful medicaments
for the treatment of infections by the Rhodotorula genus.

This work analyzes the effect of calorie restriction on the 24 h variation of pituitary-testicular function in young male Wistar rats by measuring the circulating levels of prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and testosterone. Control animals were provided an equilibrium calorie diet and the experimental animals a calorie-restriction diet equivalent to 66% of food restriction for four weeks starting on day 35 of life. Different groups of control and experimental rats were killed at 6 h intervals around the clock, beginning 1 h after light on (HALO). Compared to the control animals, the mean secretion of prolactin was augmented and that of LH and testosterone decreased in calorie-restricted rats, whereas FSH release remained unchanged. Significant changes in the 24 h secretory pattern of circulating prolactin, LH, and testosterone occurred in the calorie-restricted rats. These include the appearance of a second maximum of plasma prolactin at 21 HALO, blunting of the LH peak seen at 13 HALO, and phase-shift of the testosterone peak from 13 HALO in controls to 17 HALO in calorie-restricted rats. The significant positive correlation between individual LH and testosterone levels found in controls was no longer observed in calorie-restricted rats. Availability of nutrients presumably affects the mechanisms that modulate the circadian variation of the pituitary-gonadal axis in growing male rats. 相似文献

Secreted Frizzled Related Proteins (SFRPs) are a family of soluble molecules structurally related to the Wnt receptors. Functional analysis in different vertebrate species suggests that these molecules are multifunctional modulators of Wnt and possibly other signalling pathways. Sfrp1 a member of this family, is strongly expressed throughout embryonic development in different vertebrate species. Its function is, however, poorly understood. To address the role of this protein at early stages of embryonic development, we have used the medaka fish (Oryzias latipes) as a model system. Here, we describe the characterisation and the expression analysis of olSfrp1. We also show that morpholino-based interference with olSfrp1 expression results in embryos with a reduced eye field, a phenotype that, in the most affected embryos, is associated with a shortening and widening of the A-P axis. Because the expression of posterior diencephalic markers is unchanged but that of rostral telencephalic ones is expanded, we propose that olSfrp1 is needed for a proper establishment of the eye field within the forebrain. In addition, olSfrp1 may contribute to the control of mesodermal convergence extension movements that take place during gastrulation. 相似文献
