Physical criteria of pathological processes. III. Structure of the correlation between the level of steady brain potential with serum complement proteins in rheumatic diseases]

The activity of serum complement proteins and the level of steady brain potential in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis were determined. The statistical analysis indicated that there is a correlation between the parameters of the complement system and neurophysiological characteristics. The differences between rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus are observed in the mean values of activity of complement proteins and the steady potential, their dispersions, and the structure of correlations between immunological and neurophysiological parameters.     

Changes in Macro- and Microelement Composition in the Organisms of Irradiated Animals

We studied the content of Al, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, P, Pb, S, and Zn in the liver, kidneys, lungs, and spleen of mice with total radiation dose of 7.5 Gy using atomic emission spectral analysis with an inductively coupled argon plasma. The qualitative content of macro- and microelements and coordination between their concentrations statistically determined from coefficients of linear correlation differ between the tissues of the irradiated and control animals. Radiation damage decreases phosphorus content in all studied organisms and is a marker of disturbed conjugated oxidative phosphorylation. The most significant radiation-induced disturbance of macro- and microelement balance was detected in the spleen; it features decreased content of phosphorus, magnesium, and cobalt, as well as increased content of zinc and aluminum and considerably increased iron content. The revealed macro- and microelements disbalance in spleen, liver, kidneys, and lungs can be considered as a test for primary biological response to radiation damage.     

Effect of sociobiological factors on the formation of adaptive responses in school students during puberty

Analysis of psychological, social, and psychophysiological mechanisms underlying the formation of adaptive responses during puberty demonstrated a significant dependence of adolescent behavioral, autonomic, and endocrine parameters on sociobiological factors that determine the identification and individualization of genetically determined behavioral programs. Comparison of the adaptive capabilities of students from an innovative educational institution and from a vocational school showed that the levels of completeness of their adaptation were different and depended on social support, typological features, and autonomic regulation.

Purification and Investigation of Physicochemical and Regulatory Properties of Homogeneous L-Lactate: Cytochrom <Emphasis Type="Italic">c</Emphasis> Oxidoreductase Obtained from the Nonsulfur Purple Bacterium <Emphasis Type="Italic">Rhodovulum steppense</Emphasis>

L-Lactate: cytochrome c oxidoreductase activity was detected in cells of strain A-20s of the nonsulfur haloalkalophilic purple bacterium Rhodovulum steppense. An electrophoretically homogeneous preparation of the enzyme was obtained by purification. The enzyme had a specific activity of 4.75 U/mg protein, a 81.9-fold purification degree, and a 2.2% yield. The kinetic and physicochemical characteristics were determined. The value of the Michaelis constant with lactate was 15 μM. The temperature optimum for the studied enzyme was 31°C; optimum of pH was 8.2. It was found that the enzyme was a homodimer with a molecular weight of ~140 kDa; the mass of individual subunit was 68 kDa.
