It is often reported that an animal with spotty coat markings on its body has a tail with stripe-shaped pattern. In other various biological and chemical phenomena in/on cylinder-like domains, longitudinally periodic band patterns are observed much more often than the other non-uniform patterns. This paper mathematically explains these observations by proving that, in/on a long and narrow cylinder-like domain, any solution of reaction-diffusion system asymptotically loses its spatial dependence in the transectional/circumferential direction. 相似文献

Hairy roots were obtained following inoculation of the stems of Lobelia inflata L. with Agrobacterium rhizogenes strain ATCC 15834. These hairy roots contained agropine and mannopine. In addition, lobeline was detected by HPLC and confirmed by mass spectrometry. Various media were tested for the growth of hairy roots as well as for the content of lobeline in hairy roots. The growth rate of hairy roots cultured in Nitsch and Nitsch's medium was approximately one third of those cultured in other media. The lobeline content of hairy roots (18–54 g/g dry weight) cultured in these media was the same order of magnitude compared with that of roots of L. inflata (24 g/g dry weight) cultivated in pots. The values of pH and the concentrations of nitrogen (N) and ammonia in the middle part of the small intestinal and cecal contents of germfree (GF) and conventionalized (CVZ) seven-week-old rats were compared. The pH of the small intestinal and cecal contents of GF rats was higher than that of CVZ rats. There was no difference in total N per fresh weight in contents from the middle part of the small intestine between GF and CVZ, whereas total N per fresh weight of the cecal contents was higher in CVZ than in GF rats. The fission yeast cut1+ gene regulates spindle pole body duplication and has homology to the budding yeast ESP1 gene 总被引:20,自引:0,他引:20
Mutations in the fission yeast cut1+, cut2+, and cut10+ genes uncouple normally coordinated mitotic events and deregulate, rather than arrest, mitosis. DNA synthesis continues, making polyploid nuclei with several spindles. Multiple, aberrant spindle pole bodies (SPBs) are produced in cut1 mutant cells. The cut1+ and cut2+ genes are cloned by transformation. High gene dosage of cut1+ also complements cut2 and cut10 mutants. The cut2+ gene, however, complements only cut2. The 210 kd cut1+ gene product contains putative ATP binding and helical coil regions followed by a COOH-terminal domain homologous to the S. cerevisiae gene ESP1. Mutations in the ESP1 gene also result in many SPBs. The cut1+ product is shown by anti-cut1 antibody to be a rare component of the insoluble nuclear fraction. It may play a key role in coupling chromosome disjunction with other cell cycle events and is potentially a component, regulator, or motor for the SPB and/or kinetochores. 相似文献

Summary
Panax ginseng hairy root cultures were established by infecting petiole segments with Agrobacterium rhizogenes strain 15834. Hairy root segments including root tips placed onto phytohormone-free 1/2 Murashige and Skoog solid medium and stored at 4 °C in the dark for 4 months, resumed elongation when the temperature was raised to 25 °C in the dark. For cryopreservation, a vitrification method was applied. Root tips precultured with 0.1 mg/l 2,4-D for 3 days and dehydrated with PVS2 solution for 8 minutes prior to immersion into liquid nitrogen had a survival rate of 60 % and could regenerate. The hairy roots regenerated from cryopreserved root tips grew well and showed the same ginsenoside productivity and patterns as those of the control hairy roots cultured continuously at 25 °C. The conservation of T-DNAs in the regenerated hairy roots was proved by PCR analysis.Abbreviations 1/2 MS

Using the two-hybrid method, we isolated a Saccharomyces cerevisiae cDNA encoding a protein homologous to Schizosaccharomyces pombe protein Dis3sp, using as bait, human GTPase Ran. The DIS3 gene is essential for viability and complements S.pombe mutant dis3-54 which is defective in mitosis. Although Dis3sc has no homology to RanBP1, it bound directly to Ran and the S.cerevisiae Ran homologue Cnr1, but not to the S.cerevisiae RCC1 homologue Srm1. Upon binding to Ran with a 1:1 molar ratio, Dis3sc enhanced a nucleotide-releasing activity of RCC1 on Ran. In the presence of Dis3sc, the K(m) of RCC1 on Ran decreased by half, while the kcat was unchanged. In vivo, Dis3sp was present as oligomers of M(r) 670-200 kDa as previously reported, and the 200 kDa oligomer of Dis3sp was found to include Spi1 and Pim1, the S.pombe homologues of Ran and RCC1, respectively. Although the biological function of the heterotrimeric oligomer consisting of Dis3, Spi1 and Pim1 is unknown, our results indicate that Dis3 is a component of the RCC1-Ran pathway. 相似文献

Myosin molecules contacting an actin filament in the presence of ATP were found to regulate the filamental fluctuations due to ATP hydrolysis in a communicative manner along the filament.
