It was found that light accelerates the swelling of spinachchloroplasts suspended in a solution containing NaCl and Tris-HCl,and that, in about 60 min, the swollen chloroplasts begin toshrink rapidly. The volume of chloroplasts reached, on swelling,270 per cent of the original volume on the average and thenshrank to 17 per cent. The rate of swelling and the maximumvolume were affected markedly by the tonicity of NaCl. NH4Cldid not affect the volume changes, while phenazine methosulfateaccelerated the swelling remarkably. The relationship betweenphotoshrinkage and this light-induced high-amplitude swellingwas discussed. (Received April 2, 1966; )  相似文献

Seed germination time course and seedling development mechanisms of Clintonia udensis Trautv. et Mey. (Uvulariaceae) were investigated under experimental condition. Seed germination tests were carried out under four thermal regimes, i. e. 10, 15, 20, and 25°C, after seeds were harvested, and stored at 5°C in wet conditions for 6 months under light‐exposed or shaded conditions. Approximately 63% of all seeds produced had the potential to germinate beyond 4 years and 6 months. The developmental process after germination continued for over 2 years. Phase I: the radicle first breaks through the seed coat 2 years after fructification. Phase II: the radicle becomes much larger with a hypocotyle. Phase III: part of the cotyledon elongates over 20 mm. Phase IV: the plumule further develops in two steps, i. e. the plumule is first formed, while cotyledon is disappearing, and then the plumule appears with second and third radicles, growing with cotyledon.  相似文献

Experiments were performed, using rice, barley and Hydrangealeaves, to examine the re-assimilation of respiratory 14CO2while photosynthesis is going on in an open air flow system. It was found that the leaves which had assimilated 14CO2 beforehandevolved, when kept under photosynthesizing conditions, threeto four tenths (variable according to plant species and externalconditions) of the amount of 14CO2 to be produced in the dark.Such an incomplete re-utilization of 14CO2 was observed alsoin spinach leaf homogenate as well as in the leaves which hadpreviously absorbed 14C-glucose. The 14CO2 output in rice leaves was found to be acceleratedby the light of high intensity. A possibility of light stimulationon the respiration was suggested. (Received October 7, 1961; )  相似文献

Calcium uptake by spinach chloroplasts can be induced by thetransition from an acidic to a basic medium. This reaction dependsupon the pH difference. A difference by 4.3 to 4.5 pH unitsshowed a maximum efficiency for calcium uptake. The acid-baseinduced calcium uptake is susceptible to various inhibitorsin a way similar to that of light-induced calcium uptake. Thesame high energy intermediate (or state) produced in the chloroplastby this acid-base transition is inferred to be operating bothin calcium uptake and ATP formation.
