Distribution and habitat use of water frog hybrid complexes in France   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Hybrid zones are either distributed along clines or in a mosaic of patches. This distribution may depend upon variation in taxon habitat use. Habitat use and distribution of diverse taxa of water frogs (Rana ridibunda, R. lessonae, R. perezi, R. kl. grafi and R. kl. esculenta) in France are analysed to determine whether water frog complexes conform to the mosaic or clinal model. Biogeographical scenarios may be invoked in order to explain the distribution of water frogs. However, the distribution of R. perezi and R. kl. grafi, being restricted to regions characterized by Mediterranean or Oceanic climatic conditions, suggests that these frogs do not endure cold winters. R. ridibunda is widespread in Southern France and its distribution suggests multiple introductions. It is concluded that water frogs conform to the mosaic zone model rather than to the tension zone model because: (i) taxa exhibited differences in habitat use, (ii) pure parental species were documented and (iii) hybrids are not unfit relative to parental species.  相似文献

Summary On Ile de la Possession, as on all the subantarctic islands, major compounds of organic nutrients are provided by avifauna. The presence of Wandering Albatrosses (Diomedea exulans) induces great perturbations in the environment at the site of their nest building activities: physical and chemical modifications of the soil (by removal of litter material for nest building, trampling and accumulated organic deposits) as well as microbiological, botanical and faunal changes. These perturbations are very localized in extent. The pedological changes have been described in terms of morphological modifications. The influence of Wandering Albatrosses on the vegetation and the invertebrate fauna has been assessed and shows a decrease in the number of plant species and an increase in the number of invertebrate species. The role of some of these as indicator species is discussed.  相似文献

Acetyl-CoA:1-O-alkyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine acetyltransferase is the key enzyme in paf-acether (paf) biosynthesis, since it yields the active mediator from its nonacetylated precursor, lyso-paf. In microsomal fractions obtained from the ionophore A23187-stimulated human polymorphonuclear neutrophils, the optimal conditions allowing the full acetylation of lyso-paf were: 2-2.5 mg.ml-1 bovine serum albumin, 40 microM lyso-paf, 200 microM acetyl-CoA and acetyltransferase of high specific activity, at least 18 nmol.min-1.mg protein- -1. The reaction frequently stopped before the substrate was consumed due to spontaneous decay of the enzyme activity at 37 degrees C and inhibition of the enzyme by the paf formed in the reaction. However, low concentrations of acetyltransferase substrates (lyso-paf or lysophosphatidylcholine) and the antioxidant dithiothreitol, but not the inhibitors of proteinases or phosphatases, protected the enzyme against decay. In contrast, high concentrations of those lyso substrates inhibited the enzyme activity in the assay. This inhibition as well as that due to paf was overcome by raising the concentration of the enzyme contained in the microsomal fraction or the bovine serum albumin in the assay. These results suggest that the biosynthesis of paf in cell-free assay and most probably in intact cells might be controlled to a larger extent by the acetyltransferase concentration rather than by that of its substrates.  相似文献

Therapeutic applications of genomic medicine are slowly finding their way into the healthcare framework of developing countries. The establishment of equitable innovation policies is a determining factor in how genomic-based therapeutic applications will evolve in these countries. In the biomedical field, the commercialization of research results has established itself as the dominant paradigm in the innovation system. However, many recent studies have demonstrated that this emphasis on commercialization and the protection of intellectual property has led to disappointing results. A growing number of stakeholders in this debate argue that it is now necessary to go beyond the commercialization of research and implement policies based on the research valorization paradigm, which supports the achievement of social as well as economic objectives. We thus propose a new set of more inclusive research performance indicators to help policymakers measure the impact of international genomics projects on developing countries.  相似文献
