SYNOPSIS. An ultrastructural study of the myxamoebae of Acrasis rosea in the vegetative, aggregative and culminative stages was made. An intracytoplasmic system of microfibrillar bundles develops as the cells enter the aggregative stage and commence the morphogenetic sequence leading to the construction of a fruiting body. The fibrillar bundles disappear in the cells of the mature fruiting body. No relevant ultrastructural differences were observed between spores, stalk cells and microcysts. Each of these cells is surrounded by a single-layered coat of fibrillar material that is oriented parallel to the cell surface. Tubular structures were observed between the plasma membrane and the cell coat. The tubules may be layered along the cell periphery or they may be recessed in pockets formed by the plasma membrane. They resemble lomasomes typical of fungal cells. The myxamoebae of A. rosea clearly differ from the Dictyostelium-type myxamoebae in mitochondrial structure, the presence of lamellate structures in the nucleolus and the absence of prespore vacuoles.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Paramecia induced to perform high rates of avoiding reactions by mechanical stimulation and the action of Ba ions were instantaneously fixed with OsO4. Quantitative evaluation of the preparations revealed, among other things, metachronal stages of the transition between the ciliary patterns of swimming backward and forward. In each of the transitory stages, metachronal waves of swimming forward were found at the anterior end and waves of swimming backward at the posterior end of the animal. This confirms the so-called Párducz-scheme of avoiding reaction for the case of homogeneous chemical stimulation as well as for mechanical stimulation.  相似文献

Abstract.
  • 1 The gregarious larvae of the chrysomelid beetle Microrhopala vittata mine the leaves of goldenrods (Solidago spp.). These mines serve both as food and as shelter for the larvae.
  • 2 Life-table data and experiments indicated that mine initiation and moves to secondary mines represented especially vulnerable stages during larval development. Leaf mines effectively protected M.vittata against predators in the field.
  • 3 Field experiments indicated that larvae hatching from larger clutches of eggs stood a greater chance of surviving to pupation, primarily because larvae hatching in groups proved more successful at initiating leaf mines. Once inside the leaf mine, however, larvae feeding in large groups attained lower adult masses, and were more likely to abandon the natal mine and did so earlier in development because large groups more rapidly destroyed a leaf.

SUMMARY. 1. To investigate the contribution of hatchlings from lake- Daphnia resting eggs (ephippia) to population and community structure, hatching was monitored in situ from April to November 1986 in two north German lakes. Hatching traps were placed on the sediments and the incidence, genetic and species composition of ephippial hatchlings determined twice-weekly.
2. Hatching began in April after the thawing of ice. and continued for 3–4 weeks until the lakes stratified. There was no obvious relationship between the onset and duration of hatching and the environmental variables recorded, namely Secchi depth, surface temperature, temperature and oxygen concentration at the sediment-water interface.
3. Among the hatchlings were D. galeata, D. hyalina and their interspecific hybrid.
4. In the lake which contained overwintering animals the number of ephippial hatchlings was approximately one third of the total number of juveniles present in the lake.
5. In the second lake, no adults were recorded during winter and the population was probably founded by ephippial hatchlings alone. There was good agreement, in the short term, between the proportion of each species represented among hatchlings and the subsequent species composition in the lake.
6. The hatchlings were genetically diverse, and alleles were representative of those alleles present in contemporary populations.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Stephanonympha nelumbium is a large trichomonad measuring 45–60 μm in length and 20–40 μm in width. It is a member of the multinucleate and multiflagellate family Calonymphidae. While the numerous flagella arise in groups of four at the anterior cell pole, the posterior body portion is covered with attached spirochetes and rod-like bacteria. Generally, in the apical body portion of S. nelumbium , 50–100 nuclei are arranged in five to seven circular rows. Each nucleus is associated with a typical mastigont system, comprised of three anterior flagella, one recurrent flagellum being attached to the cell surface for a certain distance, and several typical root structures. Akaryomastigonts and costas do not occur. The fine structure of S. nelumbium corresponds with that of other calonymphids. The main difference to Calonympha is that the axostyle does not embrace the nucleus but passes it in form of a flattened rod.  相似文献
