The submicroscopic organization of the L-forms of beta-hemolytic streptococci of group B has been studied in the course of their cultivation. The L-forms of group B streptococci differ from those of group A streptococci by a higher growth rate. On the submicroscopic level, the activity of ATP-ase has been revealed on the internal side of the cytoplasmic membrane. Regularities in the localization of intramembranous particles sized 6-18 nm in the hydrophobic area of the membrane have been established by means of freezing-etching. With the adequate methods of fixation, the continuous three-layer structure of the cytoplasmic membrane can be determined in all elements of the L-form population. 相似文献

With aging, incidence of severe stress-related diseases increases. However, mechanisms, underlying individual vulnerability to stress and age-related diseases are not clear. The goal of this review is to analyze finding from the recent literature on age-related characteristics of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis associated with stress reactivity in animals that show behavioral signs of anxiety and depression under mild stress, and in human patients with anxiety disorders and depression with emphasis on the impact of the circadian rhythm and the negative feedback mechanisms involved in the stress response. One can conclude that HPA axis reaction to psycho-emotional stress, at least acute stress, increases in the aged individuals with anxiety and depression behavior. Elevated stress reactivity is associated with disruption of the circadian rhythm and the mineralocorticoid receptor-mediated glucocorticoid negative feedback. The disordered function of the HPA axis in individuals with anxiety and depression behavior can contribute to aging-related pathology. 相似文献

The etiology of the outbreaks of acute pneumonia in Belgorod was established and their epidemiological features were studied. The mycoplasmal etiology of all cases of acute pneumonia in children and adults, appearing alongside acute respiratory infections resulting from the preceding outbreaks caused by influenza viruses A/Prague/, B/Leningrad/369/75, and all types of parainfluenza viruses, was shown. The droplet mechanism of the transfer of infection was established, which was confirmed by the severity of the outbreak and a high rate of infection of the medical staff at hospitals for children and adults, where patients with mycoplasma-induced pneumonia were treated. 相似文献

The morphology and the acid-producing, antagonistic and enzymatic activity of the strains of bifidobacteria isolated from the intestine of adults and children were studied. Bifidobacteria showed a considerable polymorphism, all the strains were antagonistically active. The strains isolated from adults were found to have greater acid-producing activity; the predominant species were B. longum and B. adolescentis, and in children B. bifidum were also isolated. The characteristic feature of B. longum strains was the presence of a slime-like layer and formations resembling bubbles around bacterial cells. The influence of agents modifying cholesterol in plasma membranes on the functional activity of transporter proteins (P-glycoprotein
(P-gp) and multidrug resistance protein 1 (MRP1)) in human lymphocytes has been studied. It was shown that changes in the
lateral distribution of cholesterol using the polyene antibiotic filipin, which disturbs the structure and function of glycolipid
microdomains in plasma membranes of lymphocytes lead to a decrease in the transport activity of both P-gp and MRP1. It was
found that the treatment of human lymphocytes with the cyclic oligosaccharide methyl-β-cyclodextrin, which leads to cholesterol
depletion and reduction of lipid bilayer microviscosity in membranes of these cells, also decreases the functional activity
of these proteins. It was concluded that the transport activity of P-gp and MRP1 depends on the modification of cholesterol

Although the interactions between bilirubin and serum albumin are among the most studied serum albumin-ligand interactions, the binding-site location and the participation of bilirubin-serum albumin complexes in pathological and physiological processes are under debate. In this article, we have benefited from the chiral structure of bilirubin and used CD spectroscopy to characterize the structure of bilirubin bound to human and bovine serum albumins. We determined that in a phosphate buffer at pH 7.8 there are three binding sites in both human and bovine serum albumins. While the primary binding sites in human and bovine serum albumins bind bilirubin with P- and M-helical conformations, respectively, the secondary binding sites in both albumins bind bilirubin in the P-helical conformation. We have shown that the bonding of bilirubin to the serum albumin matrix is a more favorable process than the self-association of bilirubin under the studied conditions, with a maximum of three bound bilirubins per serum albumin molecule. Although bilirubin bound to the primary binding site has attracted the most attention, the presented results have documented the impact of the secondary binding sites which are relevant in the displacement reactions between BR and drugs and in the phenomena where bilirubin plays antioxidant, antimutagenic, and anti-inflammatory roles.
