As a result of field tests in Bulgaria and Hungary, cis‐2‐isopropenyl‐l‐methylcyclobutane ethanol (racemic grandisol) is reported for the first time as an attractant for Bothynoderes affinis (Schrank) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Lixinae), a member of the pest weevil complex of sugar beet. Dose–response experiments in the field using Csalomon TAL (modified pitfall) traps (Plant Protection Institute, CAR HAS, Budapest, Hungary) showed that catches of B. affinis adults increased with increasing attractant dose. In a subsequent experiment studying the effect of trap color (white, blue, yellow, fluorescent yellow, and transparent) all traps with the lure caught more than non‐baited control traps, and the highest number of adults was recorded in transparent and yellow baited traps. Trap color had a significant effect on the number of B. affinis females captured. Transparent TAL traps baited with 1–10 mg grandisol applied on rubber dispensers are recommended for the detection and monitoring of B. affinis. In addition to the target species, 17 other Lixinae species were captured during the field experiments, demonstrating for the first time the possible role of grandisol in the chemical communication systems of some of these species. A second locality of Lixus punctiventris Boheman (Lixinae, Lixini) in Bulgaria is reported. TAL traps baited with grandisol might be a useful tool for surveying Lixinae diversity in different biotopes.  相似文献

Mats of the green alga Trentepohlia, a genus widely distributed in the tropics as well as temperate regions, have always been perceived as homogeneous (i.e., formed by only one species). As such, their general nature and specific feature play a supportive role in the species delimitation. However, the presence of morphologically dissimilar thalli was observed under the light microscope and when cultivating a piece of a single mat. To address this, we performed DNA cloning of the rbcL gene on mat fragments of T. abietina, T. annulata, T. jolithus and T. umbrina sampled in Europe to reveal if they are composed of one or more species. We revealed that more Trentepohlia haplotypes may coexist in a single mat. In consideration of this, we conclude that the use of material isolated in unialgal culture will be almost mandatory for a taxonomic reassessment of this complicated genus. Another direct implication of this problem is that herbarium specimens consisting of field‐collected material should not be used for direct sequencing. We further hypothesize the reasons why multiple haplotypes of Trentepohlia occur more frequently in the tuft‐like mats. Possibly, fragments and/or cells of other microalgae, including other species of Trentepohlia, might be retained in such mats more easily than in the crustose trentepohlialean mats.  相似文献

The present study aims to characterize and compare the diet of bigeye and yellowfin tunas caught on aggregated schools in the western equatorial Atlantic Ocean. The samples were collected from January 2011 to June 2016. The tunas were measured on board and the stomachs were removed after evisceration. The stomachs were analyzed regarding their Index of Fullness and the importance of each prey in the diet was estimated by the Index of Relative Importance (IRI). The diet overlap was assessed by the Morisita‐Horn's Index, Non‐Metric Multidimensional Scale (NMDS), and Analysis of Similarity (ANOSIM). The feeding strategy was determined by the Costello's Diagram. The 195 bigeye and 212 yellowfin tunas ranged in fork length from 51 to 137 cm and 43 to 174 cm, respectively. The diet of bigeye tuna was composed of 10 families of fish, three cephalopod families, and four crustacean orders. The diet of yellowfin tuna was composed of 11 families of fish, three cephalopod families, and three crustacean orders. The yellowfin tuna seems to feed upon more abundant prey species near the surface like flying fish, which have the concentration enhanced by the light attractors on the boat, and occasionally on other prey from deeper habitats like lanternfish, squids, and pomfret. Bigeye tuna feed mainly at prey that commonly occurs in deeper habitats like squids, drift fish, lanternfish, and pomfret.  相似文献

Volitional animal resistance training constitutes an important approach to modeling human resistance training. However, the lack of standardization protocol poses a frequent impediment to the production of skeletal muscle hypertrophy and the study of related physiological variables (i.e., cellular damage/inflammation or metabolic stress). Therefore, the purposes of the present study were: (1) to test whether a long‐term and low frequency experimental resistance training program is capable of producing absolute increases in muscle mass; (2) to examine whether cellular damage/inflammation or metabolic stress is involved in the process of hypertrophy. In order to test this hypothesis, animals were assigned to a sedentary control (C, n = 8) or a resistance trained group (RT, n = 7). Trained rats performed 2 exercise sessions per week (16 repetitions per day) during 12 weeks. Our results demonstrated that the resistance training strategy employed was capable of producing absolute mass gain in both soleus and plantaris muscles (12%, p < 0.05). Furthermore, muscle tumor necrosis factor (TNF‐α) protein expression (soleus muscle) was reduced by 24% (p < 0.01) in trained group when compared to sedentary one. Finally, serum creatine kinase (CK) activity and serum lactate concentrations were not affected in either group. Such information may have practical applications if reproduced in situations where skeletal muscle hypertrophy is desired but high mechanical stimuli of skeletal muscle and inflammation are not. Previous in vitro studies indicated that hepatic stellate cells (HSC) and rat liver myofibroblasts (rMF) have to be regarded as different cell populations of the myofibroblastic lineage with fibrogenic potential. Employing the discrimination features defined by these studies the localization of HSC and rMF was analyzed in diseased livers. Normal and acutely as well as chronically carbon tetrachloride-injured livers were analyzed by immunohistochemistry and by in situ hybridization. In normal livers HSC [desmin/glial fibrillary acid protein (GFAP)-positive cells] were distributed in the hepatic parenchyma, while rMF (desmin/smooth muscle alpha actin-positive, GFAP-negative cells colocalized with fibulin-2) were located in the portal field, the walls of central veins, and only occasionally in the parenchyma. Acute liver injury was characterized almost exclusively by an increase in the number of HSC, while the amount of rMF was nearly unchanged. In early stages of fibrosis, HSC and rMF were detected within the developing scars. In advanced stages of fibrosis, HSC were mainly present at the scar–parenchymal interface, while rMF accounted for the majority of the cells located within the scar. At every stage of fibrogenesis, rMF, in contrast to HSC, were only occasionally detected in the hepatic parenchyma. HSC and rMF are present in normal and diseased livers in distinct compartments and respond differentially to tissue injury. Acute liver injury is followed by an almost exclusive increase in the number of HSC, while in chronically injured livers not only HSC but also rMF are involved in scar formation. Within a linear field approach, an architectural model for simple cell direction selectivity in the visual cortex is proposed. The origin of direction selectivity is related to recurrent intracortical interactions with a spatially asymmetric character along the axis of stimulus motion. No explicit asymmetric temporal mechanisms are introduced or adopted. The analytical investigation of network behavior, carried out under the assumption of a linear superposition of geniculate and intracortical contributions, shows that motion sensitivity of the resulting receptive fields emerges as a dynamic property of the cortical network without any feed-forward direction selectivity bias. A detailed analysis of the effects of the architectural characteristics of the cortical network on directionality and velocity-response curves was conducted by systematically varying the model's parameters.
