Bee bread is a unique natural product made by bees and good for human health. It has many bioactive molecules that can treat or prevent diseases. In this study, melissopalynological methods were used to examine five bee bread samples. Major plant sources found in bee bread were Lotus spp., Trifolium spp., and Xeranthemum spp., which are from the Fabaceae and Asteraceae families. Then, the amount of phenolic compounds and major carotenoids in bee bread (BB) samples were quantified. Gallic acid, caffeic acid, quercetin, and kaempferol were found in all BB samples, with β-carotene being the most abundant carotenoid in all but BB1. In addition, the total phenolic/flavonoid content and antioxidant activities of all BB samples were determined. Total flavonoid, total phenolic, DPPH⋅, and ABTS⋅+ values were varied between 5.6–10.00 mg GAE/g DW, 1.2–4.3 mg QE/g DW, 1.2–5.5 mg TEAC/g DW, and 2.6–15.4 mg TEAC/g DW, respectively. 相似文献

Background
In high-risk coronary artery bypass patients; off-pump versus on-pump surgical strategies still remain a matter of debate, regarding which method results in a lower incidence of perioperative mortality and morbidity. We describe our experience in the treatment of high-risk coronary artery patients and compare patients assigned to on-pump and off-pump surgery.Methods
From March 2002 to July 2004, 86 patients with EuroSCOREs > 5 underwent myocardial revascularization with or without cardiopulmonary bypass. Patients were assigned to off-pump surgery (40) or on-pump surgery (46) based on coronary anatomy coupled with the likelihood of achieving complete revascularization.Results
Those patients undergoing off-pump surgery had significantly poorer left ventricular function than those undergoing on-pump surgery (28.6 ± 5.8% vs. 40.5 ± 7.4%, respectively, p < 0.05) and also had higher Euroscore values (7.26 ± 1.4 vs. 12.1 ± 1.8, respectively, p < 0.05). Differences between the two groups were nonsignificant with regard to number of grafts per patient, mean duration of surgery, anesthesia and operating room time, length of stay intensive care unit (ICU) and rate of postoperative atrial fibrillationConclusion
Utilization of off-pump coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) does not confer significant clinical advantages in all high-risk patients. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the reported increase in the expression of the glucose transporter GLUT-1 in borderline and malignant ovarian epithelial tumors and its relationship to prognosis. STUDY DESIGN: In this study, areas in which immunohistochemical membranous staining with GLUT-1 were most evident were selected, and the proportions of GLUT-1 expression in 46 benign, 11 borderline and 42 malignant cases of ovarian epithelial tumors were determined quantitatively with a computer and Zeiss Vision KS 400 3.0 (G?ttingen, Germany) for Windows (Microsoft, Redmond, Washington, U.S.A.) image analysis. RESULTS: GLUT-1 expression was determined in all borderline tumors (11 of 11) and in 97.6% of malignant tumors (41 of 42). No GLUT-1 expression was observed in benign tumors. The intensity of GLUT-1 staining was lower in borderline tumors than in malignant cases. This was statistically significant (p = 0.005). As differentiation in malignant tumors increased, proportions of GLUT-1 expression showed a relative increase, but this difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.68). CONCLUSION: When GLUT-1 expression in borderline and malignant ovarian epithelial tumors was analyzed against prognosis, no statistically significant difference was identified. Assessment of GLUT-1 expression using the image analysis program was more reliable, with higher reproducibility than in previous studies. 相似文献

indices, aortic strain (AS), aortic distensibility (AD), and aortic strain index (ASI) were calculated from the aortic diameters
measured by echocardiography and blood pressure obtained by sphygmomanometry. The urine fluoride levels of fluorosis patients
were significantly higher than control subjects as expected (1.9 ± 0.1 mg/l vs. 0.4 ± 0.1 mg/l, respectively; P < 0.001). AS and AD were significantly lower in fluorosis patients than in the controls (for AS 5.3 ± 3.6 vs. 8.0 ± 3.4%;

Action potentials (APs) in the form of very short pulses arise when the cell is excited by any internal or external stimulus exceeding the critical threshold of the membrane. During AP generation, the membrane potential completes its natural cycle through typical phases that can be formatted by ion channels, gates and ion concentrations, as well as the synaptic excitation rate. On the basis of the Hodgkin–Huxley cell model, a cortical network consistent with the real anatomic structure is realized with randomly interrelated small population of neurons to simulate a cerebral cortex segment. Using this model, we investigated the effects of Na+ and K+ ion concentrations on the outcome of this network in terms of regularity, phase locking, and synchronization. The results suggested that Na+ concentration does slightly affect the amplitude but not considerably affects the other parameters specified by depolarization and repolarization. K+ concentration significantly influences the form, regularity, and synchrony of the network-generated APs. No previous study dealing directly with the effects of both Na+ and K+ ion concentrations on regularity and synchronization of the simulated cortical network-generated APs, allowing for the comparison of results obtained using our methods, was encountered in the literature. The results, however, were consistent with those obtained through studies concerning resonance and synchronization from another perspective and with the information revealed through physiological and pharmacological experiments concerning changing ion concentrations or blocking ion channels. Our results demonstrated that the regularity and reliability of brain functions have a strong relationship with cellular ion concentrations, and suggested the management of the dynamic behavior of the cellular network with ion concentrations. 相似文献
