Abstract. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to depict and describe the eggs of five species of phlebotomine sandfly from the Andean region of Peru: Lutzomyia caballeroi, Lu.noguchii, Lu.peruensis, Lu.tejadai and Lu.verrucarum. Two new types of chorionic sculpturing of sandfly eggs are reported: these were named disperse (Lu.tejadai) and verrucose (Lu.noguchii). The aeropylar area of the eggs is also described for the first time for neotropical sandflies. These character states appear to vary for ecological rather than phylogenetic reasons and could be used for species identification. 相似文献

Summary The present study describes the formation and fine structure of the different appendages during embryogenesis in the spiny lobster Jasus frontalis, as viewed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Fresh materials for study were obtained under laboratory conditions, with developing embryos maintained at 17±1.5°C. Seven different stages were defined from spawning to hatching, lasting 69–91 days. The oval shape of the embryos range in major diameter from 602±21.2.μ at the first stage and 717±30.5μ at the seventh stage, increasing the total volume by 66.8%. The results showed numerous similarities to data obtained for other crustacean species, plus several previously unreported features particular to this lobster. The most conspicuous difference with other decapods is the high degree of development of the antennae II and the slight development of the rudimentary abdomen. 相似文献

The monophyletic family Zhangsolvidae comprises stout‐bodied brachyceran flies with a long proboscis and occurring only in the Cretaceous, originally known in shale from the Early Cretaceous Laiyang Formation (Fm.) in China (Zhangsolva Nagatomi & Yang), subsequently from limestones of the Early Cretaceous Crato Fm. of Brazil. Cratomyoides Wilkommen is synonymized with Cratomyia Mazzarolo & Amorim, both from the Crato Fm.; Cratomyiidae is synonymized with Zhangsolvidae. Two genera and three species of Zhangsolvidae are described: Buccinatormyia magnifica Arillo, Peñalver & Pérez‐de la Fuente, gen. et sp.n. and B. soplaensis Arillo, Peñalver & Pérez‐de la Fuente, sp.n. , in Albian amber from Las Peñosas Fm. in Spain; and Linguatormyia teletacta Grimaldi, gen. et sp.n. , in Upper Albian–Lower Cenomanian amber from Hukawng Valley in Myanmar. Buccinatormyia soplaensis and Linguatormyia teletacta are unique among all Brachycera, extant or extinct, by their remarkably long, flagellate antennae, about 1.6× the body length in the latter species. A phylogenetic analysis of 52 morphological characters for 35 taxa is presented, 11 taxa being Cretaceous species, which supports placement of the family within Stratiomyomorpha, although not to any particular family within the infraorder. Abstract. Characters of potential use from the eggs and larvae of four species of Hipparchia (subgenera Hipparchia, Parahipparchia, Neohipparchia and Pseudotergumia ) are described. These characters, together with previously published information on larval, pupal and adult morphology, are used to construct a seventy-one character matrix for Hipparchia and four other genera of the 'Satyrus series' (Miller, 1968): Arethusana, Kanetisa, Chazara and Satyrus . The cladistic relationships among these genera and the relative contribution of adult and immature data sets are discussed. A list of possible synapomorphies of the immature stages of the 'Satyrus series' is proposed. 相似文献

Very little is known about the incidence of egg parasitoids in odonates, perhaps because Odonata eggs are well protected by stems or leaves, sometimes below water. In Central Italy (Pontecorvo, Frosinone Province) two damselflies, Calopteryx haemorrhoidalis and Platycnemis pennipes, occur in high densities. In August 2007 we collected 30 stems of the aquatic plant Potamogeton sp. used as substrate for oviposition and incubated eggs in the laboratory. Most stems (24 for C. haemorrhoidalis and 23 for P. pennipes) contained Odonata eggs. Parasitoids emerged from 12 stems, with a mean parasitism of 2% for C. haemorrhoidalis and 6% for P. pennipes, and a maximum of 14% and 50%, respectively. Furthermore, we observed egg‐laying of 19 females of C. haemorrhoidalis and 11 of P. pennipes, and marked the stems where oviposition was observed. Clutches remained in the river for five days and were then collected and incubated. Parasitoids emerged from 11 of 30 stems, with an average parasitism of 8% for C. haemorrhoidalis and 3% for P. pennipes (maximums of 50% and 29%, respectively). All parasitoids belonged to the family Mymaridae, and were identified as Anagrus (Anagrus) obscurus Förster, 1861, sensu Soyka, 1955 . This is the first time that this species is described as an egg parasitoid of odonates, and that the egg parasitoid of C. haemorrhoidalis and P. pennipes is identified. Our data suggest that egg parasitism might be a significant selective factor for both odonates in the studied locality, affecting female oviposition behavior. 相似文献

1. Spatial and temporal availability of pollen helps shape bee foraging behaviour and productivity, which has been studied in great detail at the landscape level, but never in a diverse tropical forest. 2. To study the effect of spatio‐temporal variation in resource distribution on pollen use and productivity, we identified pollen from spatially explicit nest collections of two generalist sweat bees, Megalopta genalis Meade‐Waldo and M. centralis Friese, from Barro Colorado Island, Panama, a 50‐ha forest dynamics plot during the 2007 dry and early wet seasons. Pollen from nests collected in 1998–1999 without spatial information was also identified. 3. Bees used pollen of at least 64 species; many of these occurred in only one collection. The 2007 collections contained pollen of 35 different species, but were dominated by five species, especially Hura crepitans L. and Pseudobombax septenatum (Jacq.) Dugand. 4. Temporal availability, but not distance from nest, influenced flower use at a 50‐ha scale. 5. Body size was not associated with minimum flight distance as inferred from pollen collections. 6. Nest productivity and pollen diversity decreased from the dry to wet seasons, mirroring community‐level availability of floral resources. 7. Results suggest that on a scale of 50 ha, bees are choosing certain host plant species regardless of distance from the nest, but adjusting foraging behaviour opportunistically based on the temporal availability of host flowers. 相似文献

Acrosome breakdown in Leptodactylus chaquensis is described: during this process acrosome enlarges, becomes round-shaped and finally disrupts. Low tonicity media (0.025 M sucrose and 1/10 Holtfreter's solutions) favor acrosome breakdown and sperm fertility loosing. High tonicity media (0.250 M sucrose and Holtfreter's solutions) maintain acrosomes in an unreacted stage and sperm fertilizing capacity is preserved. Sperm motility does not seem to be a sufficient condition for the sperm to fertilize and also does not seem to be related with acrosome breakdown. The presence of lectins in the incubation media does not modify the time-course of acrosome breakdown. 相似文献
