The impact of doubled atmospheric [CO2] on the carbon balance of regularly cut Lolium perenne L. swards was studied for two years under semi-field conditions in the Wageningen Rhizolab. CO2 and H2O vapour exchange rates of the swards were measured continuously for two years in transparent enclosures. The light utilization efficiencies of the swards ranged between 1.5 g CO2 MJ–1 global radiation (high light, ambient [CO2]) and 2.8 g CO2 MJ–1 (low light, doubled [CO2]). The above-ground net primary productivity (NPP) in the enclosures was greater by 29% in 1994 and 43% in 1995 in the doubled [CO2] treatments, but only 20% and 25% more carbon was recovered in the periodical cuts. Thus, NPP increased significantly more than did the harvested above-ground biomass. The positive [CO2] effect on net carbon assimilation is therefore associated with a preferential allocation of extra carbon to the roots and soil. In addition to higher canopy photosynthesis and leaf elongation rates, a small part of the positive [CO2] effects on NPP could be attributed to a decrease of the specific respiration of the shoots. On a canopy basis however, respiration was equal or slightly higher at doubled [CO2] due to the higher amount of standing biomass. Comparison of NPP and carbon recovered in different harvests showed that allocation to roots and soil was highest in spring, it was low in early summer and increased again in late summer and autumn. The total gross amount of carbon partitioned to the roots and soil during the two year period was 57% more at doubled [CO2]. The total amount of carbon that was sequestered in the soil after subtraction of the respiratory losses was 458 g m–2 and 779 g m–2 in the ambient and doubled [CO2] treatments, respectively. The average water use efficiency (WUE) of the swards was increased by a factor 1.5 at doubled [CO2]. Both WUE and its positive interaction with [CO2] varied between years and were positively correlated with global irradiance. At doubled [CO2], the higher WUE was fully compensated for by a higher leaf area index. Therefore, total transpiration on a canopy basis was equal for the ambient and the doubled [CO2] concentrations in both years.  相似文献

Under anaerobic conditions it competes with the indigenous flora of the bacon: its growth is favoured by low numbers of other organisms and by high storage temperatures. In host-range studies, bean common mosaic virus strains (BCMV-NL1, -NL3 and -NY 15) usually induced distinct systemic symptoms in susceptible bean cultivars and latent infection in several Vigna genotypes (except NY15 which gave mosaic symptoms in the latter), while blackeye cowpea mosaic virus (B1CMV-W) caused distinct systemic symptoms in several Vigna genotypes and only weak systemic symptoms in a few bean genotypes only. Biologically, B1CMV-W was closest to BCMV-NY15 and less close to -NL1. When using antisera to the three BCMV strains and five strains of B1CMV (including a strain originally considered cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus CAMV-Mor) in SDS-immunodiffusion and ELISA, BCMV-NL1 and -NY15 were found to be closely related to each other and to BICMV-Fla, -NR and -W, and less closely to BICMV-Ind and -Mor. Serological relationships of BCMV-NL1 and -NY15 to BCMV- NL3 were more distant, which is in line with the biological distinction of NL3 in causing temperature-independent necrosis in bean cultivars with the necrosis gene I. PAGE analysis of coat proteins revealed that the three strains of BCMV and B1 CMV-W have similar but non-identical molecular masses. Although molecular hybridisation may further elucidate quantitative relationships between potyvir-uses, variation within and among the potyviruses may continue to pose problems in their classification and identification.  相似文献

A technique was developed for assessing the saprophytic activity of Verticillium dahliae, using a strawberry root extract medium. The germination of conidia and microsclerotia, and mycelial growth in soil, was inhibited by the addition of chitin, laminarin, wheat straw and oven-dried green clover as soil amendments. A significant decrease in the number of viable propagules of the pathogen counted from soil, and in disease severity, was obtained with chitin and laminarin. More bacteria and actinomycetes were recorded from the rhizosphere of plants grown in chitin-amended soil than from those in natural soil.  相似文献

1. The effect of benthivorous bream and carp on sediment resuspension and the concentrations of nutrients and chlorophyll a were studied in sixteen experimental ponds (mean depth 1m, mean area 0.1 ha, sandy clay/clay sediment), stocked with bream or carp at densities varying from 0 to 500 kg ha?1. Planktivorous perch (Perca fluviatilis L.) were added to some ponds to suppress zooplankton. 2. Suspended sediment concentrations increased linearly with biomass of benthivorous fish. Bream caused an increase of 46 g sediment m?2 day?1 per 100kg bream ha?1 and a reduction of 0.38m?1 in reciprocal Secchi disc depth, corresponding to an increase in the extinction coefficient of 0.34m?1. 3. No relationship was found between size of fish and amount of resuspension, but the effect of bream was twice as great as that of carp. Benthivorous feeding was reduced in May because alternative food (zooplankton) was available. 4. Assuming a linear relationship, chlorophyll a level increased by 9.0 μgI?1, total P by 0.03mgl?1 and Kjeldahl-N by 0.48mgl?1 per 100kg bream ha?1. Silicate, chlorophyll a, total P and total N were all positively correlated with fish biomass, but orthophosphate showed no correlation.  相似文献
