We employed the self-organizing map (SOM) method to investigate the spatio-temporal pattern of the Chironomidae community in the Southern Morava River basin (Serbia) and to examine to what extent the Chironomidae community is affected by environmental factors. Additionally, this study explores the problems of utilizing chironomids in bioassessment programs. The SOM analysis of the chironomid community data produced 3 groups of sites. The indicator species analysis presented indicator taxa for two groups. Twenty taxa (at species, species group and genus level), according to the Kruskal–Wallis test, showed the most pronounced differences among the temporal units. Out of 15 measured environmental parameters, one-way ANOVA pointed out that 10 significantly differ between the groups. Elevation had the most important influence on the chironomid community, also affecting other environmental parameters. According to our findings, the winter season and the periods with high water level are the main sources of natural variability. To avoid such variability and to successfully incorporate Chironomidae in bioassessment programs, we suggest exclusion of the arguable months from monitoring programs. 相似文献

Previous research focusing on pelagic gastropods in the open ocean has demonstrated that many morphospecies comprise multiple distinct clades or cryptic species that can be distinguished with DNA sequence data. To date, the genetic diversity of the pelagic gastropod fauna of the tropical East Pacific, especially in shallow coastal waters, remains largely unexplored. To document the diversity of pterotracheoids (formerly heteropods) from the coastal waters of the Bay of Panama, we collected, photographed and sequenced fragments of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and 16S ribosomal DNA for 60 atlantids, 3 carinariids and 6 pterotracheids. In addition to the COI barcode, our results include the first published 16S sequences for these groups. We found 11 operational taxonomic units (OTUs): 9 in the genus Atlanta, 1 Carinaria and 1 Firoloida. We report the presence of Atlanta oligogyra (Clades A and B), Atlanta turriculata, Atlanta lesueurii, Atlanta helicinoidea (Clade B), Atlanta plana, Atlanta echinogyra, Atlanta inflata and Atlanta frontieri through comparisons of our sequences with previously published sequences. We did not find Atlanta gaudichaudi, Atlanta inclinata, Atlanta tokiokai, Atlanta gibbosa, Atlanta peronii, or Oxygyrus inflatus, which have previously been reported from the region. Haplotype networks and estimates of ΦST illustrate how some species show population differentiation across the tropical Indo-Pacific region, whereas others show little apparent population structure. For example, the most common haplotypes of A. inflata and of A. turriculata occur in the Indian Ocean, the Central and West Pacific and the tropical East Pacific, whereas individuals of A. frontieri from the Indian Ocean do not share haplotypes with individuals of A. frontieri from the Pacific Ocean. Analyses were limited by sample sizes, but these data suggest that population genetics approaches may be useful for reconstructing population histories of these important, but overlooked, components of the plankton. 相似文献

The main objective of this work was to characterize an atrazine-mineralizing community originating from agrochemical factory soil, especially to elucidate the catabolic pathway and individual metabolic and genetic potentials of culturable members. A stable four-member bacterial community, characterized by colony morphology and 16S rDNA sequencing, was rapidly able to mineralize atrazine to CO2 and NH3. Two primary organisms were identified as Arthrobacter species (ATZ1 and ATZ2) and two secondary organisms (CA1 and CA2) belonged to the genera Ochrobactrum and Pseudomonas, respectively. PCR assessment of atrazine-degrading genetic potential of the community, revealed the presence of trzN, trzD, atzB and atzC genes. Isolates ATZ1 and ATZ2 were capable of dechlorinating atrazine to hydroxyatrazine and contained the trzN gene. ATZ2 further degraded hydroxyatrazine to cyanuric acid and contained atzB and atzC genes whereas ATZ1 contained atzC but not atzB. Isolates CA1 and CA2 grew on cyanuric acid and contained the trzD gene. Complete atrazine degradation was a result of the combined metabolic attack on the atrazine molecule, and complex interactions may exist between the community members sharing carbon and nitrogen from atrazine mineralization.Scientific relevance: Despite numerous reports on atrazine degradation by pure bacterial cultures, the pathways and the atrazine-degrading gene combinations harboured by bacterial communities are only poorly described. In this work, we characterized a four-member atrazine-mineralizing community enriched from an agrochemical factory soil, which was capable of rapidly metabolizing atrazine to CO2. This study will contribute towards better understanding of the genetic potential and metabolic activities of atrazine-degrading communities, which are generally considered to be responsible for atrazine mineralization in the natural environment. 相似文献

Summary Different growth regions of young vegetative hyphae ofAspergillus flavus manifested structural modification of certain organelles, especially nuclei. In the apical and subapical zones the interphase nuclei had a normal, non-modified structure. In the region which was a few millimeters distant from the hyphal tip, besides normal nuclei there were some with altered morphology.Such an altered nucleus had electron lucent nuclear content and a membranous aggregate stacked against the nuclear membrane. The aggregate was made of flat, parallel membranes of smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The membranous aggregate was also found in-between two nuclei and the stacking of membranes was highly orderly. 相似文献

Chemical composition of the essential oil (analysed by GC-FID and GC-MS), the content of macroelements and trace elements (analysed by ICP-AES), and antimicrobial activities were investigated in Teucrium arduini L. from Mt Biokovo (Croatia). Additionally, a study on the types and distribution of glandular trichomes which produce essential oils was investigated. The oil was characterized by a high concentration of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (68.5%) of which β-caryophyllene (32.9%) and germacrene D (16.4%) being the major compounds. Among the macroelements, the content of calcium was the highest (9772 mg/kg), while the content of sodium was the smallest (117.74 mg/kg). Among the micronutrients, the most represented element was iron (72.07 mg/kg). The content of each investigated toxic metal (As, Hg, Pb, Cd and Cr) was below permissible levels. The essential oils showed antimicrobial activity against bacterial species tested, with MIC values ranging from 6.25 mg/mL to 37.50 mg/mL. Fungal species were susceptible with MIC values from 7.81 mg/mL and 25.00 mg/mL. 相似文献
