Plastic recycling is promoted in the transition toward a circular economy and a closed plastic loop, typically using mass‐based recycling targets. Plastic from household waste (HHW) is contaminated and heterogeneous, and recycled plastic from HHW often has a limited application range, due to reduced quality. To correctly assess the ability to close plastic loops via recycling, both plastic quantities and qualities need to be evaluated. This study defines a circularity potential representing the ability of a recovery system to close material loops assuming steady‐state market conditions. Based on an average plastic waste composition including impurities, 84 recovery scenarios representing a wide range of sorting schemes, source‐separation efficiencies, and material recovery facility (MRF) configurations and performances were assessed. The qualities of the recovered fractions were assessed based on contamination and the circularity potential calculated for each scenario in a European context. Across all scenarios, 17% to 100% of the generated plastic mass could be recovered, with higher source‐separation and MRF efficiencies leading to higher recovery. Including quality, however, at best 55% of the generated plastic was suitable for recycling due to contamination. Source‐separation, a high number of target fractions, and efficient MRF recovery were found to be critical. The circularity potential illustrated that less than 42% of the plastic loop can be closed with current technology and raw material demands. Hence, Europe is still far from able to close the plastic loop. When transitioning toward a circular economy, the focus should be on limiting impurities and losses through product design, technology improvement, and more targeted plastic waste management.  相似文献

The phylogeny of true bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera), one of the most diverse insect groups in terms of morphology and ecology, has been the focus of attention for decades with respect to several deep nodes between the suborders of Hemiptera and the infraorders of Heteroptera. Here, we assembled a phylogenomic data set of 53 taxa and 3102 orthologous genes to investigate the phylogeny of Hemiptera–Heteroptera, and both concatenation and coalescent methods were used. A binode-control approach for data filtering was introduced to reduce the incongruence between different genes, which can improve the performance of phylogenetic reconstruction. Both hypotheses (Coleorrhyncha + Heteroptera) and (Coleorrhyncha + Auchenorrhyncha) received support from various analyses, in which the former is more consistent with the morphological evidence. Based on a divergence time estimation performed on genes with a strong phylogenetic signal, the origin of true bugs was dated to 290–268 Ma in the Permian, the time in Earth's history with the highest concentration of atmospheric oxygen. During this time interval, at least 1007 apomorphic amino acids were retained in the common ancestor of the extant true bugs. These molecular apomorphies are located in 553 orthologous genes, which suggests the common ancestor of the extant true bugs may have experienced large-scale evolution at the genome level.  相似文献

Neighbouring plants generally compete for the limiting resources in order to grow and reproduce. Some resources, e.g., sun light, may be monopolised by the larger plants and this may lead to asymmetric competition where a plant, which is twice as large, grows more than twice as fast. The hypothesis was tested that cardiac output (CO) and stroke volume (SV) are increased by a moderate physiological elevation in sodium intake with a more pronounced effect in the ambulatory upright seated than supine position. Fourteen healthy males were investigated during ambulatory and controlled laboratory conditions at the end of two consecutive 5-day periods with sodium intakes of 70 (low) and 250 (high) mmol/24 h or vice versa, respectively. Comparing high and low sodium intake, plasma volume and plasma protein concentrations were 9 and 8% higher in the seated and the supine position, respectively. When seated during laboratory conditions, CO was 5.3 +/- 0.2 l/min on the high sodium intake vs. 4.8 +/- 0.2 l/min on the low (P < 0.05), and SV was 81 +/- 3 vs. 68 +/- 3 ml (P < 0.05). In the supine position, SV was 107 +/- 3 ml on the high vs. 99 +/- 3 ml (P < 0.05) on the low sodium intake, while CO remained unchanged. The difference in CO and SV induced by the change in sodium intake was significantly higher in the seated than in the supine position (P < 0.05). During upright ambulatory conditions, CO was 5.9 +/- 0.2 l/min during the high and 5.2 +/- 0.2 l/min during the low sodium intake (P < 0.05), and SV was 84 +/- 3 and 69 +/- 3 ml (P < 0.05), respectively. Mean arterial pressure was unchanged by the variations in sodium intake. In conclusion, increments in sodium intake within the normal physiological range increase CO and SV and more so in the seated vs. the supine position. These changes are readily detectable during upright, ambulatory conditions. The results indicate that the higher SV and CO could constitute an arterial baroreflex stimulus for the augmented renal sodium excretion.  相似文献

During an antiorthostatic posture change, left atrial (LA) diameter and arterial pulse pressure (PP) increase, and plasma arginine vasopressin (AVP) is suppressed. By comparing the effects of a 15-min posture change from seated to supine with those of 15-min seated negative pressure breathing in eight healthy males, we tested the hypothesis that with similar increases in LA diameter, suppression of AVP release is dependent on the degree of increase in PP. LA diameter increased similarly during the posture change and negative pressure breathing (-9 to -24 mmHg) from between 30 and 31 +/- 1 to 34 +/- 1 mm (P < 0.05). The increase in PP from 38 +/- 2 to 44 +/- 2 mmHg (P < 0.05) was sustained during the posture change but only increased during the initial 5 min of negative pressure breathing from 36 +/- 3 to 42 +/- 3 mmHg (P < 0.05). Aortic transmural pressure decreased during the posture change and increased during negative pressure breathing. Plasma AVP was suppressed to a lower value during the posture change (from 1.5 +/- 0.3 to 1.2 +/- 0.2 pg/ml, P < 0.05) than during negative pressure breathing (from 1.5 +/- 0.3 to 1.4 +/- 0.3 pg/ml). Plasma norepinephrine was decreased similarly during the posture change and negative pressure breathing compared with seated control. In conclusion, the results are in compliance with the hypothesis that during maneuvers with similar cardiac distension, suppression of AVP release is dependent on the increase in PP and, furthermore, probably unaffected by static aortic baroreceptor stimulation.  相似文献

The expected fixation probability of an advantageous allele was examined in a partially self-fertilizing hermaphroditic plant species using the diffusion approximation. The selective advantage of the advantageous allele was assumed to be increased viability, increased fecundity, or an increase in male fitness. The mode of selection, as well as the selfing rate, the population size, and the dominance of the advantageous allele, affect the fixation probability of the allele. In general it was found that increases in selfing rate decrease the fixation probability under male sexual selection, increase fixation probability under fecundity selection, and increase when recessive and decrease when dominant under viability selection. In some cases the highest fixation probability of advantageous alleles under fecundity or under male sexual selection occurred at an intermediary selfing rate. The expected mean fixation times of the advantageous allele were also examined using the diffusion approximation.  相似文献
