Summary A study of the inorganic amendments (N, P and K) to soil, and their effect on the rhizosphere microflora, as well as their relation to the control of wilt of antirrhinum plants caused byVerticillium dahliae Kleb. was done. Ammonium sulphate was the only chemical found to be significantly inhibitory toV. dahliae in vitro. Soil amendments (NPK) affected the rhizosphere microorganisms of the antirrhinum plants. Higher concentration of the chemicals were phytotoxic. It was further observed that ammonium sulphate, and the combined chemicals (NPK 25%) in soil delayed the senescence in healthy plants, suggests that chemical fertilisers affected the host plants directly. Addition of ammonium sulphate (0.25%), calcium nitrate (0.25%, 0.5%) combined NPK (0.25%) to soil caused considerable reduction in disease severity. It is assumed that this reduction may be caused by the (1) fungitoxic nature of the chemicali.e. ammonium sulphate, (2) antagonistic environment for the pathogen in the rhizosphere was boostedi.e. where calcium nitrate was added as soil amendments and (3) reduction in disease severity in soil-amended with combined NPK, may be due to the fact that antagonistic actinomycete population was boosted in the rhizosphere. 相似文献

Summary Organic (e.g. chitin, green manure, cellulose) amendments to soil induced quantitative and qualitative changes in the rhizosphere microflora of antirrhinum plants infected withVerticillium dahliae Kleb. Whereas reduction in disease severity occurred with chitin and green manure amendments, an increase in disease severity was observed with the application of cellulose. beta-D-Galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.23) was extracted from Streptococcus thermophilus grown in deproteinized cheese whey. Cultural conditions optimum for maximum enzyme production were pH 7.0, 40 degrees C, and 24 h. Proteose peptone (2.0%, wt/vol) and corn steep liquor (2.8%, wt/vol) were highly stimulatory, increasing the enzyme units available in their absence from 660 U/liter of medium to 18,200 and 10,000 U/liter of medium, respectively, in their presence. There was an insignificant increase in the production of enzyme in the presence of added inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus sources. Plasmodium knowlesi (a simian malarial parasite) infection resulted in elevation of hepatic oxidative stress in monkeys. Further, the antioxidant defence system of the host was also noticeably affected. The infected monkeys showed a marked increase in the levels of superoxide (O2-), lipid peroxidation (LPO), glutathione (GSH) and xanthine oxidase (XO), and decreased levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase. Oral administration of chloroquine (20 mg kg body wt-1 for 3 days) to infected monkeys caused recovery trends in oxidative stress and antioxidant defences to almost normal a week after cessation of drug treatment. 相似文献

Chaos Game Representation (CGR) can recognize patterns in the nucleotide sequences, obtained from databases, of a class of genes using the techniques of fractal structures and by considering DNA sequences as strings composed of four units, G, A, T and C. Such recognition of patterns relies only on visual identification and no mathematical characterization of CGR is known. The present report describes two algorithms that can predict the presence or absence of a stretch of nucleotides in any gene family. The first algorithm can be used to generate DNA sequences represented by any point in the CGR. The second algorithm can simulate known CGR patterns for different gene families by setting the probabilities of occurrence of different di- or trinucleotides by a trial and error process using some guidelines and approximate rules-of-thumb. The validity of the second algorithm has been tested by simulating sequences that can mimic the CGRs of vertebrate non-oncogenes, proto-oncogenes and oncogenes. These algorithms can provide a mathematical basis of the CGR patterns obtained using nucleotide sequences from databases. 相似文献

Summary
In vitro study showed thatVerticillium dahliae Kleb. grew well in a wide range of acid and alkaline media (viz. pH 3.5 to 10.5). The best growth of the fungus was observed in pH 5.5. Soil pH 3.5 was toxic for growing antirrhinum seedlings.
Development of Verticillium wilt of antirrhinum was affected by soil pH. The severity of the disease was greater in alkaline
soil conditions compared with acid conditions. Soil of pH 3.5 gave very good control of the symptom expression by the infected
plants. Rhizosphere analysis results showed that fungal population with the exception ofPenicillium spp., was drastically reduced in the rhizosphere of the plants grown in acid soil. Although the overall population of fungi
was reduced in theV. dahliae infected antirrhinum rhizosphere in acid soil, the population ofPenicillium spp. markedly increased. The antagonistic activity of thePenicillium spp. in the rhizosphere might also have reduced the disease severity. Since the seedlings did not grow properly in very dry
and very wet soil, rhizosphere analysis of these soils was not possible. Disease severity was much less in wet soil compared
with plants grown in medium moisture level and dry soil, but the plant growth was very poor.

Investigation of the North American species Psilostrophe villosa afforded, in addition to known compounds, five new sesquiterpene lactones, which all turn out to be modified pseudoguaianolides, most of them closely related to hymenolide. However, one of the lactones is a new type of nor-pseudoguaianolide. Furthermore a new monoacetylated borneol-β-D-glucoside is present. The chemotaxonomic situation is discussed briefly. 相似文献

Summary The hyomandibula is an important element of the head and has been influenced in its structural features by different functions. It is roughly T-shaped with vertical and horizontal ridges. In fish, such asMacropodus opercularis, the deep curve at the antero-dorsal end of this ridge may be correlated with the concentrated force applied by the adductor mandibulae muscles. InMacropodus opercularis, the hyomandibula is shorter and broader than that ofAnabas testudineus andCtenopoma acutirostre. In the latter two genera, almost the entire anterior surface of the vertical ridge is uniformly curved, which may be explained by the distributive force applied by the adductor muscles perpendicularly. InMacropodus, the hyomandibulo-interhyal articulation is not straight along the axis of the interhyal as inCtenopoma, but the interhyal makes an angle of 45 to the hyomandibula. This difference might be functional as well as due to the oblique orientation of the hyomandibula. InCtenopoma, the articulating facet of the symplectic is located slightly below the interhyal articulating facet. This might be caused by the location of the hyomandibulo-interhyal articulation. The hyomandibulo-interhyal articulation also helps in the depression of the lower jaw when the latter is depressed by the hyoid bar. Thus, a structural analysis of the hyomandibula and its relationships with functions depict the interrelation between form and function. 相似文献

On hydrolysis, the purified lipopolysaccharide (LPS) isolated from Vibrio cholera, Inaba 569 B, yielded glucose, mannose, a heptose behaving like d-glycero-l-manno-heptose and one behaving like d-glycero-l-gluco-heptose, 2-amino-2-deoxy-glucose, and glucuronic acid in the molar ratios of ~9:4:5:1:2:5. Studies on the LPS, the polysaccharide (PS), and carboxyl-reduced LPS showed that the PS has a branched structure, with (1→2)-linked mannopyranosyl and a heptopyranosyl, and (1→4)-linked glucopyranosyluronic and 2-amino-2-deoxyglucopyranosyl residues in the interior part of the molecule, and glucopyranosyl and heptopyranosyl residues as nonreducing end-groups. 相似文献
