In this case report the occurrence of a catheter-induced coronary artery dissection is described. In our patient, angiography showed a mushroom-shaped exudate above the left main coronary artery. Intravascular ultrasound revealed a circular dissection with a huge false lumen connected to the true lumen by a small intimal tear. A brief review of the literature on catheter-induced coronary dissection is included. We believe that this case report provides a good illustration of the need for careful reviewing of indications for angiography. Although procedural risks are low, angiography remains an invasive diagnostic test with the potential to cause severe complications.  相似文献

The future impacts of climate change are predicted to significantly affect the survival of many species. Recent studies indicate that even species that are relatively mobile and/or have large geographic ranges may be at risk of range contractions or extinction. An ecologically and evolutionary significant group of mammals that has been largely overlooked in this research is Australia's large marsupial herbivores, the macropodids (kangaroos). The aims of our investigation were to define and compare the climatic conditions that influence the current distributions of four sympatric large macropodids in northern Australia (Macropus antilopinus, Macropus robustus, Macropus giganteus, and Macropus rufus) and to predict the potential future impact of climate change on these species. Our results suggest that contemporary distributions of these large macropodids are associated with well-defined climatic gradients (tropical and temperate conditions) and that climatic seasonality is also important. Bioclimatic modeling predicted an average reduction in northern Australian macropodid distributions of 48% +/- 16.4% in response to increases of 2.0 degrees C. At this temperature, the distribution of M. antilopinus was reduced by 89% +/-0.4%. We predict that increases of 6.0 degrees C may cause severe range reductions for all four macropodids (96% +/-2.1%) in northern Australia, and this range reduction may result in the extinction of M. antilopinus.  相似文献

Apolipoprotein C-III (apoC-III) is an important regulator of lipoprotein metabolism. Radioisotope and stable isotope kinetic studies show differing results in relation to the kinetics of apoC-III in HDL. Kinetic analysis of HDL apoC-III may be difficult because of its low concentration, as well as the presence of other apoproteins at higher concentration, in the HDL fraction. We used Intralipid(R) (IL), known to preferentially extract apoC proteins from plasma, as a means of extracting apoC-III from HDL before apoprotein separation by isoelectric focusing gel electrophoresis for the measurement of tracer enrichment. Protein purity was assessed by an isoleucine-to-leucine (Ile/Leu) ratio, as apoC-III contains no isoleucine. We compared apoC-III kinetics in 14 men using a bolus infusion of deuterated leucine. The Ile/Leu ratio for IL-extracted HDL (IL-HDL) apoC-III (3.0 +/- 0.7%) was not different from that of VLDL apoC-III (2.6 +/- 0.6%) but was significantly lower than that of untreated HDL apoC-III (9.0 +/- 2.9%) (P < 0.001). The isotopic enrichment curves and fractional catabolic rates (FCRs) for IL-HDL apoC-III were not different from those of VLDL apoC-III. In contrast, HDL apoC-III had significantly lower isotopic enrichments and FCRs than IL-HDL apoC-III (P < 0.001). In conclusion, this simple IL method can be used to isolate apoC-III from HDL with minimal interference from other HDL apoproteins, and it demonstrates that the kinetics of apoC-III in VLDL and HDL are similar, supporting the concept of a single kinetically homogeneous pool of apoC-III in plasma.  相似文献

The hemocompatibility and biocompatibility of a stent are determined by the physical and electrochemical properties of the stent surface. The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility, safety and efficacy of implantation of a stent coated with silicon carbide. Baseline characteristics were collected prospectively. The occurrence of cardiac adverse events and the angina score were assessed at clinical follow-up. A total of 193 Tensum stents were implanted in 174 patients. In hospital, one patient experienced stent thrombosis and in 6% of the patients a creatinine kinase elevation to 240 U/l or more occurred. Long-term follow-up was performed in 172 patients, with a mean follow-up of 454 +/- 181 days. Ninety-seven per cent were still alive, 15% had undergone target-vessel revascularization, and 2% had angiographic restenosis and were treated with medication only. Seventy-one per cent of the patients were free of anginal complaints, and 20% had anginal complaints in Canadian Cardiac Society class I or II. The Tensum coronary stent showed to be a safe and efficacious device in this study, with a high primary success rate and favorable long-term clinical followup.  相似文献

In kiwifruit, much of the softening process occurs prior to the respiratory climacteric and production of ethylene. This fruit therefore represents an excellent model system for dissecting the process of softening in the absence of endogenous ethylene production. We have characterized the expression of three polygalacturonase (PG) cDNA clones (CkPGA, B and C) isolated from fruit of Actinidia chinensis. Expression of CkPGA and B was detected by northern analysis only in fruit producing endogenous ethylene, and by RT-PCR in other tissues including flower buds, petals at anthesis, and senescent petals. CkPGA promoter fragments of 1296, 860 and 467 bp fused to the -glucuronidase (uidA) reporter gene directed fruit-specific gene expression during the climacteric in transgenic tomato. CkPGC gene expression was observed in softening fruit, and reached maximum levels (50-fold higher than for CkPGA and B) as fruit passed through the climacteric. However, expression of this gene was also readily detected during fruit development and in fruit harvested prior to the onset of softening. Using RT-PCR, expression of CkPGC was also detected at low levels in root tips and in senescent petals. These results suggest that PG expression is required not only during periods of cell wall degeneration, but also during periods of cell wall turnover and expansion.  相似文献

Background  

Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are found in many organisms, in which they contribute to several important biological processes. The vertebrate α-CA family consists of 16 subfamilies, three of which (VIII, X and XI) consist of acatalytic proteins. These are named carbonic anhydrase related proteins (CARPs), and their inactivity is due to absence of one or more Zn-binding histidine residues. In this study, we analyzed and evaluated the distribution of genes encoding CARPs in different organisms using bioinformatic methods, and studied their expression in mouse tissues using immunohistochemistry and real-time quantitative PCR.  相似文献
