Fossil puma-like cats (Puma pardoides) are recorded from several Late Pliocene to Early Pleistocene Eurasian localities, but the interpretation of the phylogenetic relationships between them and the extant puma (Puma concolor) remains controversial. In the past, extinct puma-like cats have been classified into several genera and species, and a close relationship with both pumas (Puma concolor) and snow leopards (Uncia uncia) has been suggested. Here, we describe the fossil remains of puma-like cats from the Iberian Peninsula. These remains (from the localities of La Puebla de Valverde, Cueva Victoria and Vallparadís) cover the whole known chronological distribution of this species in Eurasia. Although there are dentognathic similarities with U. uncia, the Iberian remains of P. pardoides most closely resemble the extant P. concolor. It is concluded that P. pardoides is closely related to living pumas, which supports a likely Eurasian origin of the puma lineage.  相似文献

Two new fossil vertebrate localities have been discovered close to each other in the Upper Jurassic (Effingen beds, Upper Oxfordian) of the Southern Jura department (France). One of the localities have yielded an incomplete skeleton of the crocodilian Steneosaurus (including a well preserved skull), as well as fish remains and an abundant invertebrate fauna. The second locality has mainly yielded various fragmentary bones of Steneosaurus. This is the first discovery of well preserved crocodilian remains in the Oxfordian of the Jura.  相似文献

Fossil leporids from the Upper Pliocene of the locality of Perrier-Étouaires (Auvergne, France) are here revisited. They were initially attributed to Lepus lacosti by Pomel (1853), and later to the genus Oryctolagus. This material had been neither accurately described nor figured until now. Thus, a lectotype and two paralectotypes have been chosen among the material of the original collection. The diagnostic character of Oryctolagus lacosti is its big size, similar to that of modern hares (Lepus), together with other morphological characters that fit in the variability range of European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Fossils of leporids similar to those of Perrier have also been found in several Plio-Pleistocene localities from western Europe.  相似文献

This report presents a systematic revision of the Tertiary species of the common reef-building coralHydnophora. Major diagnostic characters of the various Tertiary genera that have been commonly confused withHydnophora (Leptoria,Monticulastraea, Staminocoenia, Michelottiphyllia andAngeliphyllia) are defined and subsequently compared in order to establish differences and synonymies. With the exception ofLeptoria, all other genera are considered synonyms ofHydnophora. The forty-five Tertiary species ascribed toHydnophora, or to synonymous genera, have been revised and type material analyzed. Collected material from Oligocene Italian localities and Miocene localities from Somalia and Pakistan has been also analyzed in order to provide a consistent taxonomy for distinguishing species within the genus, especially for the Mediterranean Tertiary. According to this report, of the forty-five species ofHydnophora previously described, only twenty-one appear to be distinct. The Tertiary distribution of the genus, which started in the Late Paleocene, clearly shows that species richness increased significantly from Paleocene to Miocene. Originations of species were mostly concentrated during two time intervals, respectively the Chattian for the Mediterranean and the Burdigalian for Eastern Tethys. As regards the Mediterranean, the genus developed only during Chattian time with five fully described species. The genus became extinct in both Caribbean and western-central Mediterranean regions at the end of the Oligocene and subsequently developed in eastern Tethys regions during the Miocene. A new name is proposed for the only Paleocene species:Hydnophora gregoryi.  相似文献

The ectoparasite fauna on the most widespread synanthropic chiropteran species, the particolored bat (Vespertilio murinus L., 1758), is described from localities in the Urals and West Siberia. 86 individual bats have been examined, off which 463 ectoparasite specimens from 8 species have been collected. The species composition and ecology of these arthropods are analyzed. The core of the ectoparasite fauna on the particolored bat in the Urals has been found to consist of gamasine mites of the genus Steatonyssus.  相似文献

An invasive alien species, the harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Pallas, 1773), has quickly expanded its distribution in Eastern Europe. Records of H. axyridis from 31 localities in Lithuania, Latvia, the Ukraine, European Russia, and the Northern Caucasus are summarized and mapped. Within the last few years this species has established in south Latvia, on the Baltic Sea shore (Kaliningrad oblast and Lithuania), in the western and central Ukraine, Crimea, and in the Northern Caucasus. Besides that, individual specimens have been found in 4 more localities in European Russia. The species is recorded from Lipetsk oblast (European Russia), Crimea, and Nikolaev oblast (the Ukraine) for the first time.  相似文献

Chaptalia dentata (L.) Cass. andC. albicans (Sw.) Vent. ex Steudel incorrectly have been recognized as conspecific in recent treatments. Although they are vegetatively similar, they differ in features of the flowers and fruits—especially the mature achenes. Both species occur in the Bahamas and the Greater Antilles of the West Indies:Chaptalia dentata is endemic to that area, absent only from Jamaica;C. albicans is more widespread, as it occurs in Jamaica as well as in scattered localities on the American mainland—southern Florida, various localities in Belize, Honduras, and Guatemala, and the Mexican states of Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, Chiapas, and Yucatán.  相似文献

Bouleiceras is a very rare genus among the rich assemblages of ammonoids from the lower Toarcian of the Iberian Range. So far, only two dozen specimens have been recorded in numerous field campaigns carried out since 1965 by different authors. The interest of this taxon lies in its peculiar paleogeographical distribution in comparison with most other ammonoids of the same age. A review of these specimens is carried out, including those obtained in previous works and others recently collected in selected localities. Based mainly on the differences in the shape of the ventral section and the suture line, seven species have been identified; two of which are new: Bouleiceras ibericum nov. sp. and Bouleiceras? betetensis nov. sp. All the reviewed specimens are recorded in the Semicelatum Subzone of the Tenuicostatum Zone and the Elegantulum Subzone of the Serpentinum Zone from the Central Sector and the Levantine Sector of the Iberian Range. The global distribution of the genus is summarized from the known data, and its possible dispersal routes are analyzed, as well as the factors that could have conditioned them.  相似文献

The material of Eomyidae from three localities (Morteral 1, Morteral 20A and Morteral 22) of the Morteral section in the Magro Basin, eastern Spain, is described. These localities contain remains of Ligerimys and Eomyops. Morteral 1 is situated in the lowest part of the section and contains Ligerimys ellipticus, whereas Morteral 20A and Morteral 22 are situated in the middle part of the section and contain, among other rodent species, Eomyops noeliae. The youngest localities in the Morteral section (Morteral 41 and 44) record Megacricetodon collongensis, first representative of Megacricetodon in the Middle Miocene (MN5). The locality Morteral 20A contains Megacricetodon primitivus; Morteral 1 and Morteral 22 contain a form of Megacricetodon different from both M. primitivus and M. collongensis, therefore, these three localities are of lower Aragonian age (MN4). In the Aragonian type area, L. ellipticus is rare in zone B (lower part of MN4) and frequent in zone C (upper part of MN4). The first record of Eomyops in the Aragonian type area occurs in MN7/8 and in MN5 in Central Europe. The turnover of eomyid faunas in MN4 localities of the Morteral section clearly confirms the hypothesis of Engesser (1999) that Eomyops may have appeared earlier than supposed so far (MN5).  相似文献

In this paper, we analyzed population genetic diversity of Scylla paramamosain in Hainan Island of China based on COI gene sequence. Totally 92 individuals were collected from six localities: Haikou, Wenchang, Wanning, Sanya, Dongfang and Danzhou. A 761 bp fragment was sequenced, defining 32 different haplotypes. H4 was the most frequent haplotype, existing in all six localities, while the majority of haplotypes were rare ones, existing in only one or two individuals. Haplotype diversity (h) and nucleotide diversity (π) ranged from 0.625 to 0.914 and from 0.001 to 0.003, with an average of 0.841 and 0.002, respectively. Genetic distance ranged from 0.001 to 0.003 within localities and from 0.002 to 0.003 between localities. The AMOVA analysis indicated a low level of genetic differentiation among six localities (FST = 0.0176, P > 0.05). Neutrality tests and mismatch analysis implied a potential population expansion event for this crab species.  相似文献

Beetle remains from the Triassic Khey-Yaga locality, Nenets National District, Korotaikha Basin, Nyadeita Formation, Olenekian-Anisian are described. Only isolated elytra have been found. Tetracoleus tshalyshevi gen. et sp. nov. and T. minimus sp. nov. are described and assigned to Tricoleidae, and six new species are described in formal taxa. Tetracoleus is close to Permian tricoleids just found in the Newcastle Group of Australia and the Vyatkian Aristovo locality of northern European Russia. The composition of elytra in the locality is closer to that of Lower Triassic localities than other Middle Triassic localities and characterizes the beginning of a recovery after the Permian-Triassic ecological crisis. Longxianocupes Hong in Liu, Liu et Hong, 1985 is shown to be a junior synonym of Sogdelytron Ponomarenko, 1969. The species Palademosyne ovum Ponomarenko, 2004, P. elongatum Ponomarenko, 2004, and P. latum Ponomarenko, 2004 are transferred to the genus Pseudochrysomelites Handlirsch, 1906.  相似文献

Schismatoglottis has been known previously in the Western Hemisphere from two species of sect. Philonotion that occur in northeastern South America. A third species, S. bolivarana, is described and illustrated, from materials collected in the Guayana Highland of Venezuela; it is most closely related to S. americana of Surinam. The possible existence of infraspecific taxa of S. bolivarana is suggested by the differences of ecology and slight morphological variance of the plants at the two widely separated localities where it has been collected. A key to the known American species is presented.  相似文献

Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae) are primary vectors of human arboviral diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever, and Zika viruses. Aedes aegypti is well distributed in Sudan, except in Northern and Khartoum states, while Ae. albopictus has not been previously reported. Recently, Eastern Sudan witnessed an unprecedented large outbreak of chikungunya fever between 31 May 2018 and 30 March 2019. The outbreak was composed of four waves; one of them was in Kassala state. Aedes survey in localities of Kassala state (rather than Kassala city) is carried out to assess the possible expansion of the disease in the state. The results showed the presence of immature stages of Aedes spp. in four localities from ten localities. From the four localities that recorded Aedes spp., two localities (Rural Kassala and West Kassala) were reported with chikungunya cases. From this investigation, Ae. albopictus was reported for the first time in Sudan. Also, this investigation showed the importance of conducting entomological surveys with epidemiological surveys during outbreaks of arboviral diseases.  相似文献

Haminoea japonica is an opisthobranch mollusk with a large non-indigenous range. This species is a vector for a parasite that causes the human skin disease cercarial dermatitis, and may have negative effects on populations of native species. Molecular evidence from the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I gene and the histone 3 nuclear gene indicates that previously published morphology-based hypotheses on the spread of H. japonica out of Japan are correct. The most likely explanation for the current range of the species, which includes Japan, Korea, France, Spain, Italy, Canada and the USA is a recent, human-mediated dispersal from Japanese populations. The highest levels of nucleotide and haplotype diversity are found in Japan. Non-indigenous populations have low levels of genetic diversity (indicating bottlenecking). Haplotypes that were detected in the non-indigenous range of H. japonica have only been found in two localities in the native range; these two localities are in north-eastern Japan. In addition, the haplotype network structure and Spatial Analysis of Molecular Variance results confirm the origins of non-indigenous populations most likely trace to north-eastern Japan, which is where most Pacific oyster exports to North America also originated. Because there are no major shipping ports in north-eastern Japan, ballast water is less likely to be the mechanism of dispersal. The results of this study provide important data for the development of policies and regulations aimed to prevent further spread of this species in non-indigenous ranges.  相似文献

Fossils of an unnamed large suiform have been recovered from two Early Miocene localities in East Africa. The material is distinct from other species of the suborder, including the anthracothere Brachyodus aequatorialis, which is of similar size. The upper molars of the new form are bunodont, quadricuspidate (with a tiny paraconule), and have no buccal styles (parastyle, mesostyle, metastyle) and the enamel is thin and lightly wrinkled to smooth, which contrasts strongly with upper molars of Brachyodus which are pentacuspidate, selenodont, have pervasively wrinkled enamel and well-developed parastyle, mesostyle and metastyle. A new genus and species is erected for this suiform, which is most likely an anthracothere.  相似文献

Species belonging to genus, Thysanoplusia Fabricius of the subfamily Plusiinae which are polyphagous in nature and pest of vegetables, foods, legumes, fodder, fruits, ornamental plants and cotton crops. Samples were collected from different localities of district Bahawalpur. For collection, comprehensive and comparative surveys were carried out during 2017–18 on taxonomic account of species of the genus Thysanoplusia Fabricius and resulted identified one species Thysanoplusia orichalcea (Fabricius) first time from Pakistan. Morphological characters viz., vertex, frons, labial palpi, antennae, compound eyes, ocelli, proboscis, wing venation, male and female genital characteristics were used for the identification and classification. Dichotomous keys and photographs are also provided. There is hardly any substantial research work on taxonomic studies of subfamily Plusiinae Pakistan. So to fill this gap the present proposal was designed to study the diversity of Noctuid moths from Pakistan and very fruitful results have been obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, boselaphine material from several localities in the area of the Hasnot Pakistan, is described, identified, and discussed. Four species that belong to three different genera of the tribe Boselaphini have been found: Selenoportax vexillarius, S. lydekkeri, Pachyportax latidens and Eotragus sp. Eotragus sp. is reported for the first time from the Hasnot and consequently from other Upper Middle Siwalik sediments of Pakistan and equivalent strata of the world, extending the range of the genus from the Lower to the Middle Siwaliks. Reviewing the Siwaliks’ Selenoportax species, S. dhokpathanensis Akhtar and S. tatrotensis Akhtar are synonymized with S. lydekkeri and S. vexillarius, respectively.  相似文献
