The distribution of chlorophyll was examined in cross-sections of 2- and 6-year-old stems as well as in the bark of the stump trunk of beech trees, utilising chlorophyll autofluorescence. The investigations were conducted using a confocal microscope. The tests carried out on 2 – 6-year old stems showed a large presence of chlorophyll in the bark, in primary and secondary rays as well as in the pith, but smaller amounts in wood parenchyma cells. There was no chlorophyll in the cork, sclerenchyma: in wood in vessels, tracheids and fibers. A reduction in the chlorophyll content in 6-year-old stems was not observed. In the bark of the trunk, chlorophyll was found in large amounts directly under the cork and in vestigial amounts in the primary phloem.  相似文献

The young pistils in the melanthioid tribes, Hewardieae, Petrosavieae and Tricyrteae, are uniformly tricarpellate and syncarpous. They lack raphide idioblasts. All are multiovulate, with bitegmic ovules. The Petrosavieae are marked by the presence of septal glands and incomplete syncarpy. Tepals and stamens adhere to the ovary in the Hewardieae and the Petrosavieae but not in the Tricyrteae. Two vascular bundles occur in the stamens of the Hewartlieae and Tricyrtis latifolia. Ventral bundles in the upper part of the ovary of the Hewardieae are continuous with compound septal bundles and placental bundles in the lower part. Putative ventral bundles occur in the alternate position in the Tricyrteae and putative placental bundles in the opposite. position in the Petrosavieae. The dichtomously branched stigma in each carpel of the Tricyrteae is supplied by a bifurcated dorsal bundle.  相似文献

Considerable variations exist in the content of glucose, fructose, sucrose, starch and protein and in the activities of enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism between different parts of the banana plant (Musa paradisiaca). Sucrose synthetase is present in the highest concentration in rootstock and fruit pulp, and sucrose phosphate synthetase in the pseudostem. The highest ratio of the activity of sucrose phosphate synthetase to sucrose synthetase is found in leaves. Acid invertase is present in leaves, leaf-sheath and fruit pulp and is not demonstrable in rootstock and pseudostem. Neutral invertase activity is high in pseudostem and leaf-sheath. Starch phosphorylase is largely concentrated in fruit pulp and rootstock. The maximum activity of ATP:d-phosphoglucose (ADPG) pyrophosphorylase is found in rootstock. β-Amylase is not demonstrable in rootstock and is largely concentrated in leaf-sheath. Hexokinase is most active in rootstock and the lowest in leaves. Acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase activity is highest in fruit pulp and pseudostem. Glucosephosphate isomerase is most active in the rootstock and lowest in the leaves.  相似文献

It is noteworthy that in the rat the early postnatal life is marked by an activation of both the corticostimulating function of the adenohypophysis in neonates of both sexes and of the gonadostimulating function mainly in males. In order to specify if such neuroendocrine variations are temporally correlated with changes in the hypothalamic metabolism of neurotransmitters, the hypothalamic metabolism of serotonin (5 HT), norepinephrine (NE), and dopamine (DA) and the hypothalamic content of neuropeptide Y (NPY) have been investigated in newborn rats of both sexes, delivered at term by cesarean section, as well as changes in the activity of both the hypothalamo-pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) and the hypothalamo-pituitary gonadal axis (HPG). Experimental data suggested that 1) in males a rise in hypothalamic metabolism of 5 HT, NE and DA occurs during the first two hours after delivery, whereas in females, only the metabolism of NE increases. Moreover, the postnatal metabolism of NE was higher in females than in littermate males; 2) NPY content of the hypothalamus, which was at birth significantly higher in males than in females, dropped in the former but not in the latter; 3) in newborn males, an early surge of plasma testosterone occurs, suggesting postnatal activation of the HPG axis; on the other hand, in females, a late and slight increase in plasma estradiol is observed; 4) in early postnatal life, a sex-independent rise in plasma ACTH and adrenal and plasma corticosterone levels suggest a comparable activation of the HPA axis in newborns of both sexes. In conclusion, the early postnatal activation of the corticostimulating function in neonates of both sexes and that of the gonadostimulating function, mainly in males, could be temporally correlated with a rise in the hypothalamic metabolism of two neurotransmitters, 5 HT and NE, and of NPY content. According to our data, a sex-dependent metabolsim of neurotransmitters in the hypothalamus is already apparent in early postnatal life.  相似文献

Summary Elemental concentrations of rat thymocytes in vivo were studied by X-ray microanalysis of freeze-dried sections. Cells from different regions, the subcapsular zone, the cortex and the medulla were studied in thymic tissue from a number of animals. Generally thymocytes situated in the medulla had higher concentrations of K compared to those in the subcapsular zone. The concentration of Na in the nucleus was constant in the medulla in all animals but some variation in this element was seen between animals in the subcapsular zone. The distribution of K/Na ratio in individual thymocytes was different in each region of the thymus. Cells with low K/Na ratio (<5) were predominant in the subcapsular zone, whereas cells with higher values for K/Na ratio were found in the cortex and medulla. The subcapsular zone is the region where mitotic cells are mostly situated. The finding of thymocytes with higher concentrations of Na and low K/Na ratios in this region is in accord with in vitro studies on thymocyte stimulation.  相似文献

We measured putrescine levels in minute sites of single rat brains using a sensitive, specific assay involving gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The putrescine level was measured in 20 sites of single rat brains: three sites in the cerebral cortex, six sites in the hypothalamus, three sites in the basal ganglia, three sites in the thalamus, three sites in the limbic system, and two sites in the cerebellum. The level of putrescine was very high in the hypothalamus, high in the basal ganglia and limbic system, and low in the thalamus, cerebellum, and two of the three sites in the cerebral cortex. The highest levels were in the anterior hypothalamic area and the lateral hypothalamic area, and the lowest levels were in the vermis and the lobe of the cerebellum.  相似文献

Phytoplankton, submerged macrophytes, zoobenthos and zooplankton communities were studied concurrently in three lochs which progressively increased in trophic state. The phytoplankton showed a change in dominance from Bacillariophyceae (Pennales) and Desmidaceae in the mesotrophic Loch of the Lowes to Bacillariophyceae (Pennales) and Cyanobacteria in eutrophic Balgavies Loch and to Bacillariophyceae (Centrales) and Chlorophyceae in hypertrophic Forfar Loch. The Nygaard Compound phytoplankton quotient rose from 1.2 in the Lowes to 12 in Forfar. There was a decrease in number of species of submerged macrophytes, and in depth of colonisation from 5 m in the Lowes to 2 m in Forfar which was proportional to the decrease in mean transparency. Macrophyte biomass, however, increased in proportion to the concentration of total phosphorus in the lochs. There was a decrease in species of littoral zoobenthos, but an increase in density of profundal benthos from the Lowes to Forfar. Zooplankton also showed an increase in density with enrichment, accompanied by changes in dominance. Calanoida were dominant in the Lowes; Cladocera in Balgavies and Cyclopoda in Forfar. The importance of these differences in understanding the effects of progressive enrichment and to the management of the lochs is discussed.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to investigate the cell wall properties in two wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars differing in their sensitivity to Al stress. Seedlings of Al-resistant, Inia66 and Al-sensitive, Kalyansona cultivars were grown in complete nutrient solutions for 4 days and then subjected to treatment solutions containing Al (0, 50 microM) in a 0.5 mM CaCl(2) solution at pH 4.5 for 24 h. Root elongation was inhibited greatly by the Al treatment in the Al-sensitive cultivar compared to the Al-resistant cultivar. The Al-resistant cultivar accumulated less amount of Al in the root apex than in the Al-sensitive cultivar. The contents of pectin and hemicellulose in roots were increased with Al stress, and this increase was more conspicuous in the Al-sensitive cultivar. The molecular mass of hemicellulosic polysaccharides was increased by the Al treatment in the Al-sensitive cultivar. The increase in the content of hemicellulose was attributed to increase in the contents of glucose, arabinose and xylose in neutral sugars. Aluminum treatment increased the contents of ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid especially in the Al-sensitive cultivar by increasing the activity of phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL, EC 4.3.1.5). Aluminum treatment markedly decreased the beta-glucanase activity in the Al-sensitive cultivar, but did not exert any effect in the Al-resistant cultivar. These results suggest that the modulation of the activity of beta-glucanase with Al stress may be involved in part in the alteration of the molecular mass of hemicellulosic polysaccharides in the Al-sensitive cultivar. The increase in the molecular mass of hemicellulosic polysaccharides and ferulic acid synthesis in the Al-sensitive cultivar with Al stress may induce the mechanical rigidity of the cell wall and inhibit the elongation of wheat roots.  相似文献

Inland dunes in northwestern Europe support a number of dry vegetation types. These ecosystems are poor in nutrients and it has been suggested that accumulation of nutrients triggers succession in such systems.We studied the accumulation of organic matter and N and P over a 30 months period in two adjacent ecosystems, the Spergulo-Corynephoretum and the Genisto-Callunetum. Amounts of plant matter and soil organic matter significantly accumulated during the sampling period in the Genisto-Callunetum but not in the Spergulo-Corynephoretum. While nutrient concentrations of live and dead phytomass in the Spergulo-Corynephoretum were significantly higher than in the Genisto-Callunetum, total nutrient contents in the systems showed the opposite pattern. N and P concentrations in litter were relatively high compared with the other fractions of plant matter and the amount of N significantly increased in both ecosystems during the sampling period. Soil moisture contents showed a seasonal pattern. It was highest in the top soil layer and higher in the Genisto-Callunetum than in the Spergulo-Corynephoretum.The estimated annual increase of total N in these two ecosystems was consistent with rates of atmospheric N deposition (wet fall + dry fall) measured in comparable Dutch sites.  相似文献
