Morphology of the adult and juvenile stages of Microtendipes rydalensis (Edw.) comb. nov. (Diptera,Chironomidae)

The adult male of Polypedilum rydalensis (Edw.) is described in greater detail than hitherto and the female, pupa and larva are all described for the first time. On the basis of the morphology of the adult and immature stages rydalensis is placed in the genus Microtendipes Kieffer.     

The adult cervicothoracic musculature of the cockroach, Nauphoeta cinerea (Olivier)

The cervicothoracic musculature of the adult cockroach, Nauphoeta cinerea (Olivier) is described for the first time. The adult thoracic ventral intersegmental muscles are compared with those of the nymph and of the adult cockroach, Periplaneta americana (Linnaeus).     

Yoraperla altaica,a New Species of Peltoperlidae (Plecoptera) from East Kazakhstan (Central Asia)

A new species of peltoperlid, Yoraperla altaica sp. n., from East Kazakhstan is described as adult male, adult female, mature nymph and egg stages. The new species is compared with related congeneric species.     

Postembryonic development of the cervicothoracic muscles of Euborellia annulipes (Lucas) (Dermaptera: Labiduridae)

The cervicothoracic muscles of nymphal and adult Euborellia annulipes (Lucas) are described, the former for the first time. In the adult, eight new muscles are identified, while the nymphs possess a further seven muscles that disappear at maturation or before. Otherwise the same muscles occur in nymphs as in adults, though some nymphal muscles are less clearly separated from one another than their adult homologs. The attachment sites of certain muscles show a number of slight differences between nymphs and adults. The work emphasizes the necessity of taking the immature musculature into account in assessing the muscular pattern represented in an insect order.     

A contribution to the systematics of the water mite Tiphys pistillifer (Koenike, 1908) (Acariformes, Pionidae)

Larva of the water mite Tiphys pistillifer (Koenike) is described for the first time. The morphology of this species is analyzed and male and female of the adult stage are re-described. Keys to females and males of the subgenus Acercopsis are provided.     

A new filarial nematode (Onchocercidae) from warthogs (Phacochoerus aethiopicus) of the Kruger National Park

Fifty-five warthogs [Phacochoerus aethiopicus (Suidae: Artiodactyla)] from the Kruger National Park, Republic of South Africa, were examined for parasites. Adult filarial nematodes were found in lymphatic vessels adjacent to peripheral and visceral lymph nodes, and microfilariae were found in lymph nodes and circulating blood. Both the adult parasite and the microfilaria are described. Specific identification is pending confirmation and recovery of intact adult specimens and microfilariae identical to those described herein.

The nymphal and adult cervicothoracic skeleton of Euborellia annulipes (Lucas) is described and discussed.     

The male of Megacormus granosus (Gervais, 1844) with comments on its hemispermatophore (Scorpiones,Euscorpiidae)

The male of Megacormus granosus is described for the first time and the female redescribed. A homology scheme proposed recently is applied to hemispermatophore structures. The specimens were collected in an oak forest from Pico de Orizaba Volcano at an average altitude of 2340 m. All adult males were collected by pitfall traps, whereas all adult females and both sex immatures were collected using Berlese funnels, suggesting that males are comparatively more mobile within the leaf litter layer, probably due to mating season.     

Adult female of Chaetocladius insolitus Caspers, 1987 (Diptera: Chironomidae) with notes on species distribution

The adult female of Chaetocladius insolitus Caspers, 1987 (Diptera, Chironomidae) is described and discussed in the context of the generic diagnosis of adult females of the genus Chaetocladius Kieffer, 1911. In addition, distributional notes on this rare chironomid species are included.     

The subgenus Sabethinus of Sabethes (Diptera: Culicidae)

Abstract. The subgenus Sabethinus of Sabethes is redescribed and defined on the basis of shared morphological features observed in the adult, larval and pupal stages of four known species, two of which are described as new. Each species is described and illustrated in detail, and keys are provided for the identification of the adult and larval stages. The treatment of each species also includes an annotated summary of previous literature, a brief systematic discussion and information on bionomics and distribution. The species comprising the subgenus are Saintermedins, Samelcinonymphe, Saxhyphydes sp.n. and Sakliogenes sp.n.
