The effect of thymus-derived lymphocytes (T cells) on the responsiveness of bone marrow-derived lymphocytes (B cells) to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was determined in in vitro experiments. Radiation resistant splenic T cells obtained from euthymic nu/+ mice increased the number of proliferating cells in the cultures of splenic B cells from athymic nu/nu mice even in a nonstimulated state. The radiation resistant T cells augmented significantly the responsiveness of B cells to LPS, as determined by an increase in proliferating cells and polyclonally induced anti-sheep erythrocyte (SRBC) IgM hemolysin plaque-forming cells (PFC). Addition of the T cells to B cell cultures not only augmented the responsiveness of B cells to suboptimal doses of LPS but also enabled B cells to respond to supraoptimal doses of LPS. As is well documented, the radiation resistant T cells were unable to induce the generation of anti-SRBC PFC in B cell cultures, unless the cultures were simultaneously stimulated with SRBC. Colcemid, a specific inhibitor of cell mitosis, blocked almost completely the exponential generation of anti-SRBC PFC in B cell cultures responding to SRBC with the aid of radiation resistant T cells. In contrast, colcemid did not affect the exponential generation of anti-SRBC PFC of a polyclonal nature in B cell cultures responding to LPS, either in the presence or absence of radiation resistant T cells.  相似文献

Mitogenicity and the polyclonal plaque forming cell(PFC)-inducing property of a water soluble-adjuvant extracted from Bacterionema matruchotii by butanol (Bu-WSA) were examined in vitro in the spleen cells of hybrid (CBA/N female × BALB/c male) F1 mice and C3H strain of mice. The hybrid F1 male cells which expressed a CBA/N-defect were unable to respond to Bu-WSA, when assessed by the incorporation of [3H] thymidine into the cells and the generation of anti-trinitrophenyl (TNP)-PFC or autoantibody PFC defined by the anti-bromel-ain-treated mouse erythrocyte PFC assay. However, hybrid F1 female cells with normal traits responded to Bu-WSA. Cultured spleen cells of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-nonresponsive C3H/HeJ mice responded to Bu-WSA as in the case of cells of LPS-responsive C3H/He mice, and the [3H]thymidine-uptakes and the numbers of PFC in these culture cells increased. Re-extraction of Bu-WSA by phenol did not affect its activities, while the activity of butanol-extracted LPS on C3H/HeJ cells decreased after re-extraction by the same procedure with phenol.  相似文献

The effects of polyclonal B cell activation (PBA) of cell walls and their cell wall fractions obtained from several kinds of gram-positive bacteria were studied using the anti-sheep red blood cell (SRBC) or anti-trinitrophenylated (TNP) SRBC plaque forming cell (PFC) responses of cultured spleen cells from Balb/c, athymic nu/nu, their littermates (nu/+), C3H/He (LPS-responder), C3H/HeJ (LPS-non-responder), (CBA/N × Balb/c) F1 male with an X-linked defect in B cell function and the F1 female mice. The cell walls of Staphylococcus epidermidis (ATCC 155), Lactobacillus plantarum (ATCC 8014), Micrococcus lysodeikticus (NCTC 2665), Mycobacterium rhodochrous (ATCC 184), Streptomyces gardneri (ATCC 23911) and Nocardia corynebacteriodes (ATCC 14898) had the ability to induce polyclonal B cell responses in the spleen cells of Balb/c, nu/nu, nu/+, C3H/He and C3H/HeJ mice. The cell wall fractions prepared by enzymatic digestion from the cell walls of S. epidermidis, S. gardneri or N. corynebacteriodes were also capable of inducing polyclonal B cell responses. The responses of spleen cells from (CBA/N × Balb/c) F1 male mice to these active preparations, except the cell walls of M. rhodochrous, were much lower than those of the F1 female mice. These findings indicate that the majority of the cell wall preparations lacks PBA ability for spleen cells with the CBA/N defect, except for the cell walls of M. rhodochrous which possess this ability. The PBA-ability of synthetic peptidoglycan, muramyl dipeptide (N-acetylmuramyl-L -alanyl-D -isoglutamine, MDP), was also examined, and a similar activity was observed in MDP.  相似文献

The role of CD14 in the phagocytosis and killing of microorganisms was investigated using macrophage-like cell lines, CD14-positive J774.1 cells and CD14-negative mutant J7.DEF3 cells derived from J744.1 cells. The cells were infected with Salmonella typhimurium organisms of the smooth (S)-form LT2, mutant rough (R)-form TV148 or Staphylococcus aureus 248βH. At 30 or 180 min incubation, the cells were washed and disrupted. Colony-forming units (CFUs) liberated from the disrupted cells were determined by quantitative cultivation, and the phagocytic index and killing rate were calculated. Both the phagocytic index and killing rate of J774.1 cells against LT2 organisms were greater than those of J7.DEF.3 cells. However, the index and rate of J774.1 cells against TV148 and 248βH organisms were similar to those of the J7.DEF.3 cells. The phagocytosis of LT2 organisms by J774.1 cells was partially inhibited by S-form LPS (S-LPS) and anti-CD14 antibody, but not by R-chemotype LPS (R-LPS). These results suggest that CD14 participates in the phagocytosis of S-form Salmonella.  相似文献

Recent studies have suggested that lipopolysaccharide (LPS) derived from gram-negative organisms such as Bacteroides, which are not members of the Enterobacteriaceae, stimulate B cells from the classic LPS-hyporesponsive C3H/HeJ mouse. In the present study, purified, phenol-water-extracted LPS from Bacteroides fragilis ATCC 25285 (B-LPS) was tested for its ability to induce in vivo and in vitro responses in classic LPS-responsive C3H/HeN, LPS-hyporesponsive C3H/HeJ, and (C3H/HeN X C3H/HeJ)F1 hybrid mice. B-LPS induced mitogenic responses in both C3H/HeN and C3H/HeJ spleen cell cultures when cells were cultured under standard conditions, i.e., 8 X 10(5) cells/well. Interestingly, when lower spleen cell numbers were tested with B-LPS, a typical responsive-nonresponsive pattern developed in which good mitogenic responses were induced by B-LPS in C3H/HeN cultures and in which low responses in C3H/HeJ spleen cell cultures were evident. In vivo immunization of mice with B-LPS resulted in high antibody responses in C3H/HeN, intermediate responses in F1, and low responses in C3H/HeJ mice. When purified splenic B cells were incubated with B-LPS, both mitogenic responses and polyclonal immunoglobulin M (IgM) synthesis occurred in C3H/HeN cultures, whereas intermediate responses were noted in F1 cultures and no response was seen in B cell cultures from C3H/HeJ mice. Furthermore, in vitro TNP-B-LPS responses were induced in C3H/HeN spleen cells or purified B cell cultures, and intermediate anti-TNP PFC responses occurred in F1 spleen cells or purified B cell cultures. The toxicity of B-LPS was tested in galactosamine-sensitized mice. The LD50 values for B-LPS in classic LPS-responsive C3H/HeN and C57BL/6J mice were 0.6 microgram and 1.1 microgram, respectively; F1 hybrid mice were approximately 15-fold more resistant, whereas C3H/HeJ mice gave an LD50 of 1650 micrograms. This study shows that phenol-water preparations of B-LPS are biologically active and induce responses in the classic LPS-responsive but not in the LPS-hyporesponsive C3H/HeJ mouse strain.  相似文献

Injection of endotoxins (bacterial lipopolysaccharide: LPS) several days prior to immunization causes the suppression of antibody response. The suppressive effects of several kinds of LPS preparations on the plaque-forming cell (PFC) antibody response in the spleen of mice were examined after immunization with sheep red blood cells (SRBC). Glycolipids obtained from heptoseless mutants (Re form) of salmonella or its lipid A preparation coupled artificially with bovine serum albumin (BSA) are capable, like LPS obtained from a wild type (S form) strain, of inducing suppression of the PFC response, while alkaline-detoxified LPS can not. The refractory periods of the PFC response induced by LPS injection last only a few days. However, the use of cyclophosphamide (CY) together with LPS can extend the refractory periods of antigenic stimulation for several weeks. Injections of LPS and CY can also induce unresponsive states of OH agglutinin antibody response to antigenic stimulation with formalin-killed organisms of Escherichia coli or Salmonella enteritidis (presumably both thymus-independent antigens). These unresponsive states induced by LPS and CY are easily terminated by a transfer of syngeneic bone marrow cells but not by thymocyte transfer.  相似文献

Mice homozygous for the nu gene fail to develop a thymus. In comparison to spleen cells from +/nu mice spleen cells from nu/nu mice have a deficient 19S PFC response to SRBC when tested in culture or in vivo. This deficiency is due to a lack of “helper” T cells in nu/nu spleen; A cells and B cells appear to be normal. The capacity of nu/nu spleen cells to produce a PFC response in culture can be corrected by the addition of T cells obtained from either the thymuses or the spleens of +/nu mice. In contrast to “helper” T cells obtained from the spleen, “helper” T cells obtained from the thymus appear to require the capacity for proliferation during the response to SRBC.  相似文献

The regulation of immune responses to gastrically administered TI antigens has been investigated, and the characterization of a regulatory cell population has been performed. Intragastric administration of TNP-haptenated homologous erythrocytes (TNP-MRBC) induced splenic IgM anti-TNP PFC responses in LPS nonresponsive C3H/HeJ mice that were higher than those in LPS-responsive C3H/HeN mice and similar to those noted in athymic (nu/nu) C3H/HeN animals. The simultaneous intragastric administration of LPS with TNP-MRBC augmented immune responses in a manner similar to that previously reported for parenterally administered LPS and antigen. Further, LPS-induced augmentation of TNP-MRBC responses was greater in athymic mice. These findings were substantiated using in vitro spleen cultures. Intragastric challenge with a 2nd TI antigen, TNP-LPS, induced approximately 8-fold higher splenic anti-TNP PFC responses in athymic C3H/HeN mice compared with those in euthymic littermates. By admixture of B and T cell populations, it was demonstrated that the host responsiveness to TNP-LPS was negatively regulated by suppressor cells. Suppressive activity resided in a Thy 1.2-bearing, irradiation-resistant, nylon wool-nonadherent cell population. These cells could be demonstrated in spleen and Peyer's patches from young or old LPS-responsive C3H/HeN mice, but not in tissues from LPS nonresponsive C3H/HeJ mice. The specificity of the regulator cells was not limited to TNP-LPS responses, since immune responsiveness to another TI antigen, TNP-dextran, was also under the control of this cell population. These studies confirm the TI nature of TNP-MRBC and indicate that immune responses to gastrically administered antigens such as TNP-LPS, TNP-dextran, and possibly TNP-MRBC are negatively regulated by a suppressor T cell population. A role for endogenous LPS in the generation of regulator cells and the effect of these cells on host responses to gut-derived antigens is discussed.  相似文献

Partially purified and crude mouse L cell interferon preparations inhibited the in vitro plaque-forming cell (PFC) response of mouse C57B1/6 spleen cells to the T-cell independent lipopolysaccharide antigen of Escherichia coli 0127. PFC responses of 5-day cultures were inhibited approximately 70–90% by 100–200 NIH reference units of interferon/culture. A similar inhibitory effect was obtained with spleen cells from athymic (nude) mice homozygous for the nu/nu allele. Spleen cultures depleted of adherent cells were also inhibited in their anti-0127 PFC response by interferon. Interferon, then, appears capable of inhibiting the PFC response to E. coli 0127 via direct action on B cells. Heating experiments along with the use of interferon preparations of different specific activities suggest that the inhibition was due to the interferon in the preparations.  相似文献

In vivo polyclonal activation of B cells in the lymph nodes and the spleens of mice injected with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was compared. The peak of anti-trinitrophenylated sheep red blood cells plaque-forming cell (PFC) response in the lymph node was reached 6-8 days after the injection of LPS while that in the spleen was reached at 2 days. The maximal increase in the total number of Ig-producing cells in the lymph node also occurred at the later stage. These differences in time courses of polyclonal activation of B cells between the lymph node and the spleen were not due to the absence of B cells in the lymph node, migration of PFC from the spleen to the lymph node, or qualitative differences of B cells. This phenomenon was dependent on the environmental difference between the lymph node and the spleen, because B cells from the lymph node could respond to LPS rapidly in the spleen. Further, the polyclonal activation of B cells was accelerated in the lymph nodes of mice receiving prior injection of LPS. In in vitro cultures of lymph node cells of those mice, a significant amount of interleukin-1 could be detected by stimulation of LPS. It was possible that the delayed activation of B cells in the lymph node was due to the time lag necessary for construction of the environmental condition suitable for activation of B cells, whereas in the spleen this condition can be provided without delay.  相似文献

Streptococcal pyrogenic exotoxin (SPE), a toxic protein, secreted by Group A streptococci modifies antibody responses in two ways. It suppresses the early peak plaque-forming cell (PFC) and serum antibody responses to sheep erythrocytes (SE) and it engenders a late burst of PFC detected at 12–14 days. We have termed the late phase a deregulated response. This effect has been observed in rabbits and NIH (+/+ and +/nu) mice. NIH athymic nude (nu/nu) mice exhibit the early suppressed response but do not show the late phase. In reconstruction experiments to delineate the responsible target site of SPE we have conferred upon the nude or nude spleen cells in vitro, +/nu PFC responsiveness to SE by transfer of +/nu spleen cells in vivo or by supplementation with +/nu spleen cells in Marbrook cultures. When this is done, complementation of nude PFC responses and their ability to exhibit a deregulated response after SPE treatment is conferred coordinately. Pretreatment of donor cells with a B-cell inhibitory dose of X-ray or with a B-cell inhibitory dose of anti-Ig serum + C′ does not inhibit complementation of nude cells to +/nu responsiveness. Moreover, such donor suspensions when treated with SPE retain the ability to complement and to confer upon nude cells the ability to exhibit the late burst of PFC (a deregulated response). A similar pretreatment of the donor cell suspension with an anti-T-cell serum and C′, however, markedly inhibits both the adoptive complementation and the deregulation of the nude mouse PFC response. Thus, it is demonstrated that the target cell affected in this way by SPE is a T-cell. We presume from this evidence that SPE inhibits a T-cell which is involved in the regulation of antibody formation.  相似文献

The influence of allogeneic cell interaction and GVH reaction on the immune response to Escherichia coli antigen was investigated. Addition of CBA/J spleen cells to cultures of nu/nu spleen cells stimulated a significant increase in the nude PFC response to SRBC but had no significant effect on the immune response to E. coli antigen. Similarly, the induction of a GVH reaction in F1 mice by the injection of parental spleen cells also had no significant effect on the immune response to the bacterial antigen. These results suggest that the immune response to E. coli is not affected by products of thymus-derived cells.  相似文献

The roles of macrophages and T cells in the adjuvant effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were studied. In vitro anti-trinitrophenyl (anti-TNP) antibody responses to TNP-Ficoll and TNP-keyhole limpet hemocyanine (TNP-KLH) in spleen cells of C57BL/6 mice showed the most enhancement, when LPS was added to cultures at 1 μg/ml 48 hr after culture was started. The responses to these antigens were enhanced markedly by LPS in whole and macrophage-depleted spleen cells. The enhancement was greater in the latter group than in the former. The adjuvant effect among whole, T cell-depleted, macrophage-depleted and both macrophage- and T cell-depleted spleen cells was compared. The response to TNP-Ficoll was enhanced markedly by LPS in all groups. The enhancement was greater in the latter two groups than in the first two groups. The response to TNP-KLH was enhanced by LPS strongly in macrophage-depleted spleen cells, moderately in whole and both macrophage- and T cell-depleted spleen cells, and only slightly in T cell-depleted spleen cells. Enhancement was restored to T cell-depleted spleen cells by adding T cells. The response to TNP-KLH of macrophage-depleted spleen cells of LPS-responsive C3H/HeN mice which was enhanced by LPS was suppressed by adding splenic macrophages of C3H/HeN mice, but not of LPS-nonresponsive C3H/HeJ mice. The response to TNP-KLH of macrophage-depleted spleen cells of C3H/HeJ mice was not enhanced by LPS, irrespective of the addition of macrophages of C3H/HeN mice. The results indicate that B cells are activated directly by LPS, and T cells enhance and macrophages suppress the adjuvant effect of LPS.  相似文献

Normal adult mice have been shown to contain a large number of cells secreting antibodies against bromelain-treated syngeneic erythrocytes (Br.MRBC) and the numbers remarkably increase by the stimulation with LPS. In this report development of the anti-Br.MRBC response during ontogeny was examined and it was shown that on the injection of LPS suckling mice responded little to generate splenic plaque-forming cells (PFC) against Br.MRBC in vivo and in vitro. The responsiveness of suckling mice to produce anti-Br.MRBC was shown to be less developed than the anti-TNP response or the mitotic response to LPS. The low responsiveness of suckling mice was analyzed in terms of suppressor activity in the spleen cell population, proliferative capacities of the precursors of anti-Br.MRBC PFC, and their frequencies in the spleen. In the coculture experiment of suckling and adult spleen cells or culture of anti-brain-associated Thy 1-treated, macrophage-depleted spleen cell population, no evidence was obtained to show that suckling spleen cells contained suppressor cells. Kinetic profiles studied in vitro showed that anti-Br.MRBC PFC in the suckling spleen did not increase during the culture as those in the adult spleen. Studies on the precursor frequencies revealed that spleen cells of 15-day-old mice contained precursors of anti-Br.MRBC PFC amounting to 20.5% of the adult precursors whereas the PFC response in vitro by the former was only 4% of the latter. From these experimental data, it was concluded that the low responsiveness of suckling mice was partly due to the low frequency of the precursors in the spleen and, in addition, to the defective nature of the precursors in proliferating to differentiate into PFC.  相似文献

Guinea pig spleen and lymph node cells were found to produce anti-2,4-dinitrophenyl (Dnp) oligolysine PFC in vivo against 2,4-dinitrophenyl-β-alanyl glycyl glycyl (Dagg-SRBC) but not against trinitrophenyl-SRBC target indicator cells. Furthermore, when sensitized spleen cells or their purified B-cell fractions were cocultured with primed peritoneal exudate lymphocytes (PEL) but not splenic T cells they were able to generate a secondary PFC response in vitro to the synthetic antigens, Dnp oligolysines. PFC were not induced in vitro if these same cultures were pulsed with short-chain peptides (five lysines) or the complex antigen, dinitrophenyl-bovine γ-globulin (DnpBGG). Con A was able to substitute for PEL in triggering spleen cells to mount a secondary in vitro PFC response to homologous Dnp oligolysines. More importantly, the Con A-aided spleen cell cultures were not induced above background values when challenged in vitro with heterologous Dnp oligolysines. This study suggests that spleen cells may lack a nonspecific signal for the development of a secondary in vitro PFC response.  相似文献

Infection of BALB/c mice with Leishmania tropica NIH S strain resulted in splenic enlargement, hypergammaglobulinemia, and polyclonal activation of B lymphocytes as measured by the splenic plaque-forming cell response (PFC) to trinitrophenyl (TNP) and sheep erythrocytes (SRBC). The peak anti-SRBC PFC response occurred 5 weeks after infection; both direct and indirect (facilitated) plaques were significantly increased. The in vitro primary immune response to trinitrophenyl haptenated lipopolysaccharide (TNP-LPS), as enumerated by the anti-TNP PFC response, was also increased on a per-spleen basis beginning 3 weeks after infection. The properties of a lysate of L. tropica promastigotes (LTL) was studied to determine whether polyclonal B-cell activation was related to a parasite-derived mitogen. A B-cell mitogen was identified in LTL which stimulated the proliferation of spleen cells in vitro from uninfected control and congenitally athymic (T-cell-deficient) but not from μ-suppressed (B-cell-deficient) animals. Preliminary characterization of the mitogen material indicated that it was a nonpyrogenic, heat-labile peptide or protein and was probably not bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS).  相似文献

In vitro mitogenic responses of thymocytes to rabbit anti-mouse thymocyte serum (ATS) have been compared in several mouse strains. The response of thymocytes of C3H/HeJ mice is about one-third of those of thymocytes of C3H/He, ATL or ATH strains. Phenol-extracted bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) does not induce mitogenic response in cultured C3H/HeJ spleen cells, but the spleen cells of all other strains used are capable of responding to LPS. The low response of C3H/HeJ thymocytes to ATS is restored by adding “endotoxin soup” prepared from spleen cell cultures of LPS-responder mice in the presence of LPS. Neither soup prepared from C3H/HeJ spleen cell cultures without the addition of LPS nor soup prepared from cell cultures with LPS show such restoration of the response of C3H/HeJ thymocytes to ATS. The molecular size of the active factor in “endotoxin soup” was estimated on a Sepharose CL-4B column and determined to be about 20,000 daltons. The activity of “endotoxin soup” is destroyed by heating at 70 C for 30 min or 80 C for 10 min and diminished by digestion with trypsin. The mechanisms of restoration of low response of C3H/HeJ thymocytes to ATS by “endotoxin soup” are discussed.  相似文献

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) derived from Bacteroides fragilis has been reported to stimulate mitogenic responses in spleen cell cultures from the classical LPS-hyporesponsive C3H/HeJ mouse strain; however, we have shown that purified splenic B cells from C3H/HeJ mice are hyporesponsive to phenol-water extracted LPS from B. fragilis ATCC 25285 (B-LPS). In the present study, B-LPS and its purified lipid A and polysaccharide components were tested for their ability to induce mitogenic and polyclonal IgM synthesis in spleen cell and purified splenic B cell cultures from classical LPS-responsive and -hyporesponsive mice. Mitogenic responses to B-LPS and E. coli K235 LPS(Ph) of whole spleen cells (2 X 10(5) cells/culture) or purified B cells (5 X 10(5) cells/culture) from classical LPS-responsive mouse strains (C3H/HeN, BALB/c, C57BL/6J, C57BL/10Sn, and DBA/2), F1 mice (derived from crosses between LPS responsive and C3H/HeJ mice), and classical LPS-hyporesponsive mice (C3H/HeJ and C57BL/10ScN) were high, intermediate, and low, respectively. When a higher number of whole spleen cells (5 X 10(5) cells/well) were cultured, B-LPS induced high mitogenic responses in C3H/HeN, intermediate responses in F1, and lower but significant responses in C3H/HeJ cultures. Similar results were obtained when polyclonal IgM synthesis was assessed in cultures containing 1 X 10(6) cells/culture. In contrast, the purified lipid A component of B-LPS failed to induce mitogenic responses in either whole spleen or purified B cell cultures. The addition of purified splenic B cells from C3H/HeJ mice to C3H/HeN or C3H/HeJ splenic adherent cells resulted in mitogenic responses to B-LPS, implying that the hyporesponsiveness to B-LPS seen in whole spleen cell cultures from C3H/HeJ mice at the lower cell concentration was due to limiting numbers of M phi. When splenic B cells and M phi from either C3H/HeN or C3H/HeJ mice were incubated with the lipid A or the polysaccharide moiety of B-LPS, lipid A induced mitogenic responses only in C3H/HeN cultures, whereas the polysaccharide moiety induced similar responses in both C3H/HeN and C3H/HeJ cultures. These results suggest that Bacteroides lipid A does not stimulate B cells from the classical LPS-hyporesponsive C3H/HeJ mouse strain, whereas the polysaccharide moiety of B-LPS is biologically active and mediates B cell stimulation via M phi.  相似文献

Proliferative response of B cells with or without CR [CR(+) or CR(?) B cells] was compared in their polyclonal response when they were stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). CR(+) B cells responded better in proliferation and more poorly in polyclonal antibody formation than did CR(?) B cells. The dissociation between proliferation and antibody formation in LPS response was not due to the shift of the time kinetics nor the exhaustion of the culture medium. T cells and macrophages did not take part in the dissociation, since macrophage depletion from nu/nu mouse spleen cells could not modify the dissociation. The polyclonal antibody response of CR(?) B cells was more resistant to irradiation than that of CR(+) B cells. These results suggest that among LPS-responsive B cells there are CR(?) B-cell subset(s) more mature than CR(+) B cells.  相似文献

In addition to the x-linked B cell maturation deficit previously reported in CBA/N mice, a functional T cell defect has now been observed. T lymphocyte regulation of the polyclonal PFC response was studied within the context of this x-linked immunodeficiency model. The ability of 1) B cells from (CBA X CBA/CaJ)F1, male mice to respond to nonspecific T cell helper signals and 2) T cells from NCF1 male mice to provide such signals was investigated under in vitro conditions by using bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as the polyclonal activator. B lymphocytes from both male and female NCF1 mice were receptive to T cell help rendered by NCF1 female T cells. Male T cells. however, were unable to augment polyclonal B cell responses of either NCF1 male or female B cells to LPS. Treatment with ATS + C reduced the polyclonal response of female but not male spleen cells to LPS. This deficit could not be overcome by the use of greater numbers of NCF1 male T cells. The observation that this deficiency in T cell regulation is not due to active suppression suggests that the results may be attributable to an intrinsic T cell defect.  相似文献
