We followed the diurnal cycles of isoprenoid emissions from Quercus ilex seedlings under drought and after re-watering. We found that Quercus ilex, generally considered a non-isoprene emitter, also emitted isoprene although at low rates. The emission rates of isoprene reached 0.37 ± 0.02 nmol m−2 s−1 in controls, 0.15 ± 0.03 nmol m−2 s−1 under drought and 0.35 ± 0.04 nmol m−2 s−1 after re-watering, while emission rates of monoterpenes reached 11.0 ± 3.0, 7.0 ± 1.0 and 23.0 ± 5.0 nmol m−2 s−1, respectively. Emission rates recovered faster after re-watering than photosynthetic rate and followed diurnal changes in irradiance in controls and under drought, but in leaf temperature after re-watering.  相似文献

Photosynthetic parameters, growth, and pigment contents were determined during expansion of the fourth leaf of in vitro photoautotrophically cultured Nicotiana tabacum L. plants at three irradiances [photosynthetically active radiation (400–700 nm): low, LI 60 μmol m−2 s−1; middle, MI 180 μmol m−2 s−1; and high, HI 270 μmol m−2 s−1]. During leaf expansion, several symptoms usually accompanying leaf senescence appeared very early in HI and then in MI plants. Symptoms of senescence in developing leaves were: decreasing chlorophyll (Chl) a+b content and Chl a/b ratio, decreasing both maximum (FV/FM) and actual (ΦPS2) photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2, and increasing non-photochemical quenching. Nevertheless, net photosynthetic oxygen evolution rate (P N) did not decrease consistently with decrease in Chl content, but exhibited a typical ontogenetic course with gradual increase. P N reached its maximum before full leaf expansion and then tended to decline. Thus excess irradiance during in vitro cultivation did not cause early start of leaf senescence, but impaired photosynthetic performance and Chl content in leaves and changed their typical ontogenetic course.  相似文献

The relationship between net photosynthetic (P N) and leaf respiration (R) rates of Quercus ilex, Phillyrea latifolia, Myrtus communis, Arbutus unedo, and Cistus incanus was monitored in the period February 2006 to February 2007. The species investigated had low R and P N during winter, increasing from March to May, when mean air temperature reached 19.2 °C. During the favourable period, C. incanus and A. unedo had a higher mean P N (16.4±2.4 μmol m−2 s−1) than P. latifolia, Q. ilex, and M. communis (10.0±1.3 μmol m−2 s−1). The highest R (1.89±0.30 μmol m−2 s−1, mean of the species), associated to a significant P N decrease (62 % of the maximum, mean value of the species), was measured in July (mean R/P N ratio 0.447±0.091). Q10, indicating the respiration sensitivity to short-term temperature increase, was in the range 1.49 to 2.21. Global change might modify R/P N determining differences in dry matter accumulation among the species, and Q. ilex and P. latifolia might be the most favoured species by their ability to maintain sufficiently higher P N and lower R during stress periods.  相似文献

Seedlings of Bidens cernua L. emerged when mean air temperature was 17.0±1.3 °C. The highest net photosynthetic rate (P N), 13.8±0.8 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1, was monitored during the vegetative period (May–August), decreasing on an average by 50 % during flowering (August–September) and during fruiting (September–November) phases. The senescence phase (October–November) was characterised by 79, 58, and 18 % decrease of P N, chlorophyll content, and leaf area (LA), respectively, from the maximum values. The time span from seedling emergence to the end of fruiting phase was 202 d. The total plant biomass was 1.58±0.05 g of which 81 % was aboveground plant portion. The total dry mass relative growth rate averaged over the assimilation period was 0.0804±0.0002 kg kg−1 d−1, and it was correlated to both the net assimilation rate (NAR) and the leaf area ratio (LAR).  相似文献

Morphological (dry mass, DM; surface area, LA; leaf mass per area, LMA), anatomical (leaf thickness, L), phenological (leaf life span, LL), and physiological (net photosynthetic rate, P N) leaf traits of the evergreen species co-occurring in the Mediterranean maquis developing at Castelporziano (Rome) were tested. The correlation analysis indicated that LMA variation was tightly associated with LL variations: Cistus incanus and Arbutus unedo had a short LL (4±1, summer leaves, and 11±1 months, respectively) and low LMA (153±19 g m−2) values, Quercus ilex, Phillyrea latifolia, and Pistacia lentiscus high LMA (204±7 g m−2) and long LL (22±3 months), Erica arborea, Erica multiflora, and Rosmarinus officinalis a short LL (9±2 months) and an either high (213±29 g m−2, R. officinalis and E. multiflora) or low (115±17 g m−2, E. arborea) LMA. LMA values were significantly (p≤0.05) correlated with P N (r≥0.68). In the tested species, LMA increased in response to the decrease of the total rainfall during the leaf expansion period. LMA variation was due to the unequal variation of DM and LA in the considered species. LMA is thus a good indicator of evergreen maquis species capability to respond to climate change, in particular to total rainfall decrease in the Mediterranean basin.  相似文献

The relationships between dark respiration rate (R D) and net photosynthetic rate (P N) in Quercus ilex L. shrubs growing at the Botanical Garden in Rome were analysed. Correlation analysis of the data sets collected in the year 2006 confirmed the dependence among the considered leaf traits, in particular, R D was significantly (p<0.05) correlated with P N (r = 0.40). R D and P N increased from March to May [1.40±0.10 and 10.1±1.8 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1 mean values of the period, respectively], when air temperature was in the range 14.8–25.2 °C, underlining the highest metabolic activity in the period of the maximum vegetative activity that favoured biomass accumulation. On the contrary, the highest R D [1.60±0.02 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1], associated to the lowest P N rates (44 % of the maximum) and carbon use efficiency (CUE) in July underlined the mobilization of stored material during drought stress by a higher air temperature (32.7 °C).  相似文献

This study estimated the construction const (CC) and maintenance cost (MC) of leaf tissue on the basis of dry mass (CCMass, MCMass) and leaf area (CCArea, MCArea), as well as the maximum leaf gas exchange capacity, so as to examine leaf cost:benefit relationship in six dominant species of the ‘Bana’ vegetation. Minimum and maximum CCMass averaged 1.71 ± 0.03 and 1.78 ± 0.03 g glucose g−1. The CCMass showed a statistically significant positive correlation with crude fibre, and tended to decline as leaves were larger. Thus, smaller leaves tended to be built out of a more expensive material than that found in species bearing larger leaves. The average CCArea of the ‘Bana’ species was 376 ± 15 g glucose m−2. A robust correlation was found between CCArea with leaf dry mass to leaf area ratio, as well as with leaf thickness, but not with leaf density. MCMass (g glucose g−1 day−1) and MCArea (g glucose m−2 day−1) were positively correlated. Maximum and minimum MCMass increased significantly with protein and lipid content, respectively. Maximum carbon assimilation (A max) was positively correlated with CCArea. All the species operated at high stomatal conductance (g s) and C i/C a which suggested low short-term water use efficiency. Potential nitrogen use efficiency (PNUE = A max/N) averaged 35.4 ± 1.8 mmol CO2 mol−1 N. As the sclerophylly index (g crude fibre g−1 protein) increased, the ratio of CCArea to A max increased significantly. This result suggests a trade-off between investments in an expensive resistant sclerophyllous leaf which should maximize carbon gain in the long term.  相似文献

Morphological, anatomical, biochemical and physiological traits of sun and shade leaves of adult Quercus ilex, Phillyrea latifolia and Pistacia lentiscus shrub species co-occurring in the Mediterranean maquis at Castelporziano (Latium) were studied. Fully expanded sun leaves had 47% (mean of the three species) greater leaf mass area (LMA) and 31% lower specific leaf area (SLA) than shade leaves. Palisade parenchyma thickness contributed on an average 42% to the total leaf thickness, spongy layer 43%, upper epidermal cells 5%, and upper cuticle thickness 3%. Stomatal size was greater in sun (25.5 μm) than in shade leaves (23.6 μm). Total chlorophyll content per fresh mass was 71% greater in shade than in sun leaves, and nitrogen content was the highest in sun (13.7 mg g−1) than in shade leaves (11.8 mg g−1). Difference of net photosynthetic rates (P N) between sun and shade leaves was 97% (mean of the three species). The plasticity index (sensu Valladares et al., New Phytol 148:79–91, 2000a) was the highest for physiological leaf traits (0.86) than for morphological, anatomical and biochemical ones. Q. ilex had the highest plasticity index of morphological, anatomical and physiological leaf traits (0.37, 0.28 and 0.71, respectively) that might explain its wider ecological distribution. The higher leaf plasticity of Q. ilex might be advantageous in response to varying environmental conditions, including global change.  相似文献

In an experimental site for reforestation of degraded area, three-year-old plants of Bertholletia excelsa Humb. & Bonpl. were subjected to different fertilization treatments: T0 = unfertilized control, T1 = green fertilization (branches and leaves) and T2 = chemical fertilization. Higher net photosynthetic rates (P N) were observed in T1 [13.2±1.0 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1] compared to T2 [8.0±1.8 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1] and T0 [4.8±1.3 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1]. Stomatal conductance (g s), transpiration rate (E) and water use efficiency (WUE) of individuals of T1 and T2 did not differ significantly, however, they were by 88, 55 and 63%, respectively, higher in T1 than in the control. The mean values of variable fluorescence (Fv), performance index (P.I.) and total chlorophyll [Chl (a+b)] were higher in T1. Our results indicate that green fertilization improves photosynthetic structure and function in plants of B. excelsa in young phase.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to assess the effect of leaf thickness, leaf succulence (LS), specific leaf area (SLA), specific leaf mass (Ws) and leaf water content (LWC) on chlorophyll (Chl) meter values in six Amazonian tree species (Carapa guianensis, Ceiba pentandra, Cynometra spruceana, Pithecolobium inaequale, Scleronema micranthum and Swietenia macrophylla). We also tested the accuracy of a general calibration equation to convert Minolta Chl meter (SPAD-502) readings into absolute Chl content. On average, SPAD values (x) increased with fresh leaf thickness (FLT [μm] = 153.9 + 0.98 x, r 2 = 0.06**), dry leaf thickness (DLT [μm] = 49.50 + 1.28 x, r 2 = 0.16**), specific leaf mass (Ws [g (DM) m−2] = 6.73 + 1.31 x, r 2 = 0.43**), and leaf succulence (LS [g(FM)] m−2 = 94.2 + 1.58 x, r 2 = 0.19**). However, a negative relationship was found between SPAD values and either specific leaf area [SLA (m2 kg−1) = 35.1 − 0.37 x, r 2 = 0.38**] or the leaf water content (LWC [%]= 80.0 − 0.42 x, r 2 = 0.58**). Leaf Chl contents predicted by the general calibration equation significantly differed (p<0.01) from those estimated by species-specific calibration equations. We conclude that to improve the accuracy of the SPAD-502 leaf thickness and LWC should be taken into account when calibration equations are to be obtained to convert SPAD values into absolute Chl content.  相似文献

Differences in leaf traits among the dune species developing along the Latium coast were analysed. Cakile maritima Scop. subsp. maritima, Elymus farctus (Viv.) Runemark ex Melderis subsp. farctus, Ammophila arenaria (L.) Link subsp. australis (Mabille) Lainz, Ononis variegata L., Pancratium maritimum L., Eryngium maritimum L., and Anthemis maritima L. were considered. The considered species showed a similar net photosynthetic rate (P N) and chlorophyll content (Chl) during the year, with a peak from the end of April to the middle of May [13.0±3.6 μmol (CO2) m−2 s−1 and 0.63±0.21 mg g−1, respectively, mean values of the considered species], favoured by air temperature in the range 13.3–17.5°C, and 6% of soil water availability. In June–July, the increase of air temperature (Tmax = 28.4°C), associated with a lower water availability (42 mm, total rainfall of the period) and a 1% of soil water availability determined a significant decrease of P N (59%, mean of the considered species) and Chl (38%), and an increase of the carotenoid (Car)/Chl ratio (59%). The significant correlation between P N and stomatal conductance (g s) (p<0.05) explained 67% of P N variations. Moreover, the correlation between P N and leaf temperature (T l) underlined that the favourable T l enabling 90–100% of the highest P N for the considered species was within the range 23.4 to 26.6°C. P N decreased below half of its maximum value when T l was over 35.8 and 37.4°C for E. farctus subsp. farctus and A. arenaria subsp. australis, respectively and over 32.2°C for the other considered species (mean value). Leaf mass area (LMA) varied from 6.8 ± 0.7 mg cm−2 (O. variegata) to 30.6 ± 1.6 mg cm−2 (A. arenaria). PCA (principal component analysis) carried out using the considered morphological and physiological leaf traits underlined that the co-occurring species were characterised by different adaptive strategies: E. farctus and A. arenaria photosynthesized for a long period also when air temperature was over 35.8 and 37.4°C, respectively, because of their lower transpiration rates [E, 1.4 ± 0.1 mmol (H2O) m−2 s−1], which seemed to be controlled by the highest LMA. On the contrary, A. maritima and C. maritima subsp. maritima had a higher P N (on an average 52% higher than the others) in the favourable period, allowed by the highest succulence index (SI, 85.7 ± 9 mg cm−2) and the lower LMA. The results allowed us to hypothesize that A. arenaria and E. farctus might be at a competitive advantage relative to the other considered species with respect to the increase of air temperature, by their ability to photosynthesize at sufficient rates also during summer.  相似文献

Plant traits of Malcolmia littorea growing at the Botanic Garden of Rome and transplanted from the wild population developing along the Latium coast (Italy) were analyzed. The highest photosynthetic rates [P N, 22.5 ± 0.5 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1], associated to the highest chlorophyll content (Chl, 60 ± 5 SPAD units), and respiration rates [R, 11.1 ± 0.2 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1] were reached in spring, when mean air temperature (T m) was in the range 17°C to 23°C. P N, Chl, and R decreased by 86, 38, and 59% in summer when mean maximum air temperature (T max) was 30.3 ± 2.6°C. Leaf water potential decreased by 34% in summer compared to the spring value, and it was associated to a relative water content (RWC) of 74 ± 4%, and to a water-use efficiency (WUE) of 2.15 ± 0.81 μmol(CO2) mmol−1(H2O). Moreover, also low air temperatures determined a significant P N and R decreases (by 52 and 40% compared to the maximum, respectively). Responsiveness of gross photosynthetic rate (P g) to R was higher than that to P N as underlined by the slope of the regression line between the two variables. The results underlined a low tolerance to both high- and low air temperatures of M. littorea. The selected key traits (R, WUE, Chl) by the discriminant analysis might be used to monitor the M. littorea wild population in the long time. The ex situ cultivated plants could be propagated and used to increase the individuals number of the wild population.  相似文献

Nine temperate grass species were screened for their potential to grow in the low-light conditions typical of gaps in dense vegetation. To this end, photosynthetic photon flux densities (PFD) were simulated in a growth chamber (PFD 100, 50 or 25 μmol photons m−2 s−1). Relative and absolute growth rates (RGR and AGR, respectively) of the species were regressed on ten different ecophysiological and morphogenetic plant attributes. No significant relationships were found between plant attributes and relative growth rate, while six attributes explained a significant proportion of the interspecific variance in absolute biomass growth: net photosynthetic rate at growth PFD (P net ) (75.5%), leaf apparent quantum yield of CO2 fixation (62.5%), leaf dark respiration rate (65.2%), leaf compensation PFD (71.0%), root: shoot ratio (66.4%) and plant nitrogen content on a mass basis (42.0%). Only species with extremely low allocation to roots and very high (relatively speaking) net photosynthetic rates were able to grow fast in low light. Specific leaf area (SLA), instantaneous photosynthetic nitrogen use efficiency (PNUE) and leaf nitrogen content on a mass basis as well as on an area basis were not significantly related to growth. The absence of effects of plant traits on RGR, unlike for AGR, could arise from a relationship that we observed between AGR and a fitted start value of the biomass-time course (i.e. seed mass or germination time). This suggests that interspecific differences in the very early growth stages of the plants were responsible for differences in successful development under low light, rather than differences in RGR. Based on its high explanatory power, its relative constancy with plant age and the lack of effect of growth PFD, P net would be the best candidate for characterizing potentially shade-tolerant species that are likely to establish in dense vegetation in the field.  相似文献

Two series of experiments were conducted to determine suitable growth factors for the mass propagation of the local algal isolate Amphora sp. A higher growth rate of 0.2 doubling (μ) day−1 was attained at a lower photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD; 11.4 μmol photon m−2s−1) compared to cultures exposed to higher levels of PPFD (16.1 μmol photon m−2s−1, −0.1 μ day −1; 31.3 μmol photon m−2s−1, 0.0 μ day−1). Cultures located inside the laboratory had a significantly higher cell density (133 × 104 cells cm−2) and growth rate (0.3 μ day−1) compared to those located outdoors (100 × 104 cells cm−2, 0.2 μ day−1). A comparison of nutrient medium across two locations showed that lipid content was significantly higher in cultures enriched with F/2MTM (macronutrients + trace metals) and F/2MV (macronutrients + vitamins). Saturated fatty acids were also present in high concentrations in cultures enriched with F/2M (macronutrients only). Significantly higher amounts of saturated fatty acids were observed in cultures located outdoors (33.1%) compared to those located indoors (26.6%). The protein, carbohydrates and n-6 fatty acid content of Amphora sp. were influenced by the location and enrichment of the cultures. This study has identified growth conditions for mass culture of Amphora sp. and determined biochemical composition under those culture conditions. From an energy budget of a deciduous plant leaf in moderate conditions, entropy fluxes into or out of the leaf due to solar radiation, infrared radiation, evaporation of water and heat conduction are calculated. Net entropy flow into the leaf is negative. On the assumption that the entropy in the leaf is in a steady state, the entropy production in the typical deciduous leaf in moderate conditions [the solar energy absorbed by both sides of the leaf isE solar=0.0602 (J cm−2 s−1)] becomesS prod=1.8×10−4 (J cm−2 s−1 K−1). The positiveness of the entropy production shows that the Second Law of Thermodynamics certainly holds in the plant leaf. Entropy productions in other conditions are also calculated. The entropy production in the leafS prod becomes a linear function of the solar energy absorbed by the leafE solar:S prod≈-(29.5E solar)×10−4. A theorem is presented: the entropy production in plant leaves oscillates during the period of one day, paralleling the daily solar energy absorbed by leaves.  相似文献

The biokinetics of glucose metabolism were evaluated in Aeromonas hydrophila during growth in an anaerobic biosystem. After approx 34 h growth, A. hydrophila metabolized 5,000 mg glucose l−1 into the end-products ethanol, acetate, succinate and formate. The maximum growth rate, μ m, half saturation coefficients, K s, microbial yield coefficient, Y, cell mass decay rate coefficient, k d, and substrate inhibition coefficient, K si were 0.25 ± 0.03 h−1, 118 ± 31 mg glucose l−1, 0.12 μg DNA mg glucose−1, 0.01 h−1, and 3,108 ± 1,152 mg glucose l−1, respectively. These data were used to predict the performance of a continuous growth system with an influent glucose concentration of 5,000 mg l−1. Results of the analysis suggest that A. hydrophila will metabolize glucose at greater than 95% efficiency when hydraulic retention times (HRTs) exceed 7 h, whereas the culture is at risk of washing out at an HRT of 6.7 h.  相似文献

Metabolic hotspots at land–water interfaces are important in supporting biogeochemical processes. Here we confirm the generality of land–aquatic interfaces as biogeochemical hot spots by extending this concept to marine beach cast materials. In situ atmospheric pCO2, from a respiration chamber (10 cm in diameter and 20 cm high) inserted into wrack deposits, was determined using a high-precision (±1 ppm) non-dispersive infrared gas analyzer (EGM-4, PP-systems) at 1 minute recording intervals. The wrack deposits supported high metabolic activities, with CO2 fluxes averaging (±SE) 6.62 ± 0.88 μmol C m−2 s−1, compared to median value of 0.98 μmol C m−2 s−1 (mean 2.21 ± 1.25 μmol C m−2 s−1) for bare sand adjacent to deposits. Wrack metabolic rates ranged 40-fold across beaches, from a minimum of 0.57 ± 0.22 μmol C m−2 s−1 to a maximum of 20.8 ± 5.04 μmol C m−2 s−1, both derived from beaches with deposits dominated by Sargassum. Rates tended to increase significantly (F test, P < 0.05) from the shoreline to reach maximum rates at about 10 m from the shoreline, declining sharply further from the shoreline, and increased with increasing thickness of the deposits (maximum about 10 cm deep), declining for thicker deposits. Wrack differing in composition had similar metabolic rates, although deposits consisting of a mixture of seagrass and algae tended to show somewhat higher rates. Our results show a meter square of wrack deposit supports a metabolic rate equivalent to that supported by 3 m2 of living seagrass or macroalgal habitat. In wrack, the marine environment provides organic material and moisture and the land environment provides oxygen to render wrack ecosystems an efficient metabolic reactor. Intense wrack metabolism should also be conducive to organismal growth by supporting the development of a cryptic, but diverse wrack-based food web.  相似文献

Diurnal and seasonal trends in net photosynthetic rate (P N), stomatal conductance (g), transpiration rate (E), vapour pressure deficit, temperature, photosynthetic photon flux density, and water use efficiency (WUE) were compared in a two-year-old Dalbergia sissoo and Hardwickia binata plantation. Mean daily maximum P N in D. sissoo ranged from 21.40±2.60 μmol m−2 s−1 in rainy season I to 13.21±2.64 μmol m−2 s−1 in summer whereas in H. binata it was 20.04±1.20 μmol m−2 s−1 in summer and 13.64±0.16 μmol m−2 s−1 in winter. There was a linear relationship between daily maximum P N and g s in D. sissoo but there was no strong linear relationship between P N and g s in H. binata. In D. sissoo, the reduction in g s led to a reduction in both P N and E enabling the maintenance of WUE during dry season thereby managing unfavourable environmental conditions efficiently whereas in H. binata, an increase in g s causes an increase of P N and E with a significant moderate WUE.  相似文献

The effects of temperature (20, 24 and 28 °C) and irradiance (15 and 40 μmol photon m−2 s−1) on the nitrate and ammonium uptake rates of the subtropical red alga, Laurencia brongniartii, were investigated to prepare for tank cultivation. Nitrate uptake followed saturation kinetics and was faster at higher irradiances and temperatures. In contrast, ammonium uptake was linear over the experimental range and was not affected by an increase in temperature. A parameter, β, was calculated to compare substrate uptake rates of nitrate along the linear portion of the uptake curve with that of ammonium. For nitrate, β was lower at low irradiance and higher at high irradiance (β = 0.007 ± 0.003 and 0.030 ± 0.002 [μmol N L−1 (μmol N gww−1 d)−1], respectively). However, β was 0.023 ± 0.002 and 0.034 ± 0.002 [μmol N L−1 (μmol N gww−1 d−1)−1] for ammonium, suggesting a preference for ammonium over nitrate.  相似文献

Chlorophyll (Chl) content, dry mass, relative water content (RWC), leaf mass per area (LMA), proline (Pro) content, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activity, P N-PAR response curves and gas exchange were studied to determine the effects of water stress on photosynthetic activity, dry mass partitioning and metabolic changes in four provenances of neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss). The results indicated that provenance differences existed in the adaptation response to water stress that included changes to growth strategies coupled with ecophysiological and metabolic adjustments. As water stress increased, stomatal conductance (g s), net photosynthetic rate (P N), transpiration rate (E), and leaf RWC decreased while LMA increased in all provenances. Dry mass was reduced in droughted plants and the percentage increased in dry mass allocated to roots, and enzyme activities of SOD and POD were highest in neem originating from Kalyani (KA) provenance and lowest in neem originating from New Dehli (ND) provenance. In contrast, water stress increased MDA content least in KA and most in ND. Furthermore, neem originating from ND also had the greatest decrease in Chl a/b ratio while the ratio was least affected in neem originating from KA. These findings suggest neem originating from KA may have more drought resistance than neem originating from ND. The data from P N-PAR response curves are less clear. While these curves showed that drought stress increased compensation irradiance (I c) and dark respiration (R D) and decreased saturation irradiance (I s) and maximum net photosynthetic rate (P max), the extent of decline in P max was provenance dependent. P max under non-waterlimiting conditions was higher in neem originating from Jodhpur (MA) (about 14 μmol m−2 s−1) than in the other three provenances (all about 10 μmol m−2 s−1), but mild water stress had minimal effect on P max of these three provenances whereas P max of MA provenance declined to 10 μmol m−2 s−1, i.e. a similar value. However, under severe water stress P max of MA and KA provenances had declined to 40% of non-stressed values (about 6 and 4 μmol m−2 s−1, respectively) whereas the decline in P max of neem originating from Kulapachta (KU) and ND provenances was about 50% of nonstressed values (about 5 μmol m−2 s−1). These data suggest the P N responses of KU and ND provenances are most tolerant, and KA and MA least tolerant to increasing water stress, but also suggest MA provenance could be the most desired under both non-water-limiting and water-limiting conditions due to highest P max in all conditions.  相似文献
