Studies on the life history and food habit ofTyphlodromus bambusae Ehara were carried out under aboratory conditions of 25±1°C, 60–80%rh and 159l:d.The egg-to-egg period of the predator which fed on eggs of the long-seta form ofSchizotetranychus celarius (Banks) was longer than those of the three phytoseiid species,Amblyseius eharai Amitai et Swirski,A. longispinosus (Evans) andA. paraki Ehara, which fed onTetranychus urticae Koch. The sex-ratio ofT. bambusae was not significantly different from those of the other three species. The long ovipositional period and the rather constant, low, reproductive rate observed inT. bambusae were remarkable. The intrinsic rate of natural increase (r m) ofT. bambusae was 0.164 per day and it was very similar to ther m of its prey,S. celarius. This observation supports the idea that there is a coincidence between the life-histories of spider-mite prey and their specific phytoseiid predators.Although females ofT. bambusae could feed on eggs ofAponychus corpuzae Rimando orSchizotetranychus recki Ehara which cohabit withS. celarius onSasa bamboo, their oviposition rate was lower than that onS. celarius eggs.Schizotetranychus celarius is thought to be a profitable prey species forT. bambusae, whileS. recki andA. corpuzae are only subsidiary, or alternative, prey.  相似文献

We examined longevity, fecundity, and oviposition strategies ofEucelatoria bryani Sabrosky (Diptera: Tachinidae), a gregarious endoparasitoid ofHelicoverpa zea (Boddie) andHeliothis virescens (F.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Longevity of adult femaleE. bryani was not related to body size. In contrast to longevity, largerE. bryani females had greater potential fecundity than smaller females, as determined by the number of embryonated eggs present in the common oviduct. However, female parasitoid size did not affect primary clutch size (number of eggs deposited in a host). Because embryos in eggs located in the ovisac were larger than those located elsewhere in the common oviduct, maximum primary clutch size may be physiologically limited by the number of fully mature eggs a female has available at one time.E. bryani females adjusted primary clutch size in response to host size, for bothH. zea andH. virescens. This adjustment appears to be adaptive because females did not overexploit hosts by depositing more larvae than a host could support. Adult emergence was not related to host size. Although host weight positively influencedE. bryani progeny weight, increases in progeny size with host size were counterbalanced by increases in primary clutch size with host size.  相似文献

The astigmatid mite Tyrophagus neiswanderi Johnston and Bruce is mainly considered a pest of ornamental and horticultural crops. However, this mite has been found infesting Cabrales cheese in Spain, though its population density is low compared to Acarus farris, the prevalent species of astigmatid mite encountered in Cabrales cheese maturing caves. One of the factors that might be influencing this differential abundance is temperature. In the present study the effect of temperature on reproductive parameters and longevity of T. neiswanderi was examined at six constant temperatures, ranging from 10 to 31°C, and a relative humidity of 90 ± 5%. Preoviposition period, fecundity and daily fecundity were adversely affected by extreme temperatures while the oviposition period increased as temperature was reduced. Male and female longevity increased as temperature decreased, but males showed significantly greater longevity than females. Additionally, this difference was greater as temperature decreased. The effect of temperature on the intrinsic rate of natural increase of T. neiswanderi populations was described by the non-linear Lactin model. The optimum temperature for development was predicted at 26.6°C. At this temperature, the population doubling time is 2.8 days. The lower and upper thresholds for T. neiswanderi populations were calculated at 7.4 and 31.7°C, respectively. According to these results, the influence of temperature on the low population density of this mite found in Cabrales maturing caves compared with A. farris is discussed.  相似文献

The melon fruit fly, Zeugodacus cucurbitae (Coquillett), is an important polyphagous pest that damages to various agricultural crops, whose distribution has become global as a result of human activity. In this study, we investigated the fecundity, pre-oviposition and oviposition periods, and the longevity of adult Z. cucurbitae at various constant temperatures ranging from 15 to 35.2°C. One newly emerged one virgin female and two males of Z. cucurbitae were used, and the longevity of both sexes and the fecundity of the females were examined daily. The longevity of female Z. cucurbitae ranged from 183.8 days at 15.0°C to 30.8 days at 35.2°C, and the maximum fecundity per female was 1204 eggs at 24.5°C. The lower development threshold (LDT) and thermal constant (K) of females were estimated as 14.8°C and 781.13 degree-days, respectively. Female reproduction was modeled using a two-phase oviposition model. Oviposition was estimated using females in the oviposition phase, which had a complete pre-oviposition phase. The oviposition model consisted of two reproductive components (total fecundity and age-specific cumulative oviposition rate during oviposition) and a survival component (age-specific survival rate). The daily egg production of Z. cucurbitae was estimated in relation to adult age and temperature.  相似文献

Summary In a study on intraspecific host plant acceptability, Liriomyza trifolii females that had previously been exposed to plants of high nitrogen content, showed a feeding and oviposition preference for plants of high nitrogen (Minkenberg and Fredrix 1989). Females showed a preference to feed and oviposit on the high middle leaves within plants. It was hypothesized that the preference between plants was related to a better performance of females and offspring on high nitrogen plants compared to low nitrogen plants. Different nitrogen dosages were applied to tomato plants, resulting in plants containing 3.4, 3.9, 4.6 or 4.9% leaf nitrogen. L. trifolii females responded to increased leaf nitrogen with significantly increased feeding and fecundity, longer oviposition periods, and higher feeding and oviposition rates. Their offspring on the same plants showed reduced developmental time, lower mortality and increased pupal size. Consequently, intrinsic rate of increase was positively linearly related to leaf nitrogen. Size of L. trifolii females appeared to be independent of fecundity, longevity and developmental time. Pupal length of males increased with increasing developmental time. These results indicate that L. trifolii is well adapted in its intraspecific host plant selection, because the ability to distinguish between plants with differences in leaf nitrogen content will directly lead to an increase in their fecundity, longevity and overall fitness. The implications of leaf nitrogen as a significant factor in the behavior and population dynamics of L. trifolii are discussed.  相似文献

Developmental and reproductive rates ofAdonia variegataGoeze,Coccinella novemnotataHerbst,C. septempunctataL., andC. undecimpunctataL. were studied in wheat and barley in Central Saudi Arabia. Beetles were reared in the laboratory at 25 ± 2°C onBrevicoryne brassicae(L.) andRhopalosiphum padiL.A. variegataandC. undecimpunctatahad significantly higher egg hatching (X = 81.8 and 74.5%), adult longevity (X = 71.8 and 70.0 days), and survival (X = 61.8 and 61.5%), respectively.Coccinella undecimpunctatahad the highest fecundity (X = 370.5 eggs/female) and longest oviposition period (X = 29.8 days).C. septempunctataexhibited the lowest values for these biological parameters. No differences were evident in the total developmental time or egg and pupal duration, although species differences occurred in the larval duration. Larvae ofA. variegatadeveloped faster (X = 11.8 days) than Larvae ofC. septempunctata(X = 12.0 days),C. undecimpunctata(X = 12.2 days), orC. novemnotata(X = 13.1 days). The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) and predicted population density were higher forC. undecimpunctata(X = 0.093 and 98553) after 60 days than forC. novemnotata(X = 0.088 and 59405),C. septempunctata(X = 0.086 and 35033), orA. variegata(X = 0.082 and 37991), respectively.  相似文献

Summary The layings ofCassida deflorata Suffr. are parasited in southern France byMymaridae (Anaphoidea sp. andFulmekiella ovata soyka),Trichogrammatidae (Monorthochaeta nigra Blood.) andEulophidae (Foersterella flavipes Foerst. andTetrastichus rhosaces Walk.). In the Alpes-Maritimes, two successive generations ofMymaridae andTrichogrammatidae seem to attack the layings ofC. deflorata. In Corsica, parasitism byMymaridae andF. flavipes is very frequent and may be the essential regulating factor of the populations ofCassida. In the other regions that have been studied, although the large number ofCassida imagos appearing in spring show that mortality during the aestivation and hibernation is not the primary factor, it does not seem that the limitation of the populations is essentially caused by the activity of oophagous insects.   相似文献

Scopula subpunctaria, is one of important defoliating insect pests of tea plants in China. However, the effect of temperature on its longevity and fecundity had not been reported, and the temperature-dependent oviposition model is lacking. The reproductive characteristics of S. subpunctaria were investigated under eight constant temperatures (13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, and 33℃), with a 14L: 10D photoperid and 65–85% RH. The results showed that temperature significantly influence oviposition period, longevity, and fecundity of S. subpunctaria. The mean longevity of female adults increased from 10.8 days (33℃) to 33.9 days (13℃). Male lived shorter than female did. The mean longevity of males was shortest at 33℃ (8.1 days) and longest at 23.8℃ (17.6 days). Total fecundity of S. subpunctaria females ranged from 15.4 eggs at 33℃ to 279.9 eggs at 22℃. The temperature-dependent oviposition model of S. subpunctaria was constructed based on four sub-models (developmental rate model, total fecundity model, oviposition rate model, and survival rate model). The results of this study would be helpful in forecasting and predicting population occurrence of S. subpunctaria in tea plantations.  相似文献

The relationship between the index of female's size, hind tibia length (HTL), and selected fitness parameters used in quality assessment of mass-rearedTrichogramma spp. (Hymenoptera, Trichogrammatidae) was investigated. The studied fitness parameters were: the number of mature eggs present in the ovaries of females 0–2 hours, as well as 1, 2 and 3 days old, lifetime fecundity, fecundity during a 24 h period, longevity in the presence and absence of the factitious host (Ephestia kuehniella Zeller) and locomotor activity. The relationship between HTL and fitness parameters was analysed in 7 strains ofTrichogramma spp. (Trichogramma dendrolimi Matsumura,T. evanecens Westwood,T. maidis Pinturea et Voegelé andT. ostriniae Pang et Chen) using linear correlation. No significant relationship was found between HTL and egg complement, fecundity, longevity and locomotor activity. The results indicate that HTL used as an index of female's size is not suitable for quality assessment ofTrichogramma reared onE. kuehnieIla.  相似文献

The developmental times and the reproduction of two resistant Italian strains ofTyphlodromus pyri Scheuten andAmblyseius andersoni (Chant) were studied in the laboratory by rearing them on the spider mitesPanonychus ulmi (Koch) andEotetranychus carpini (Oud.), on the eriophyidColomerus vitis (Pgst.) and on pollen ofMesembryanthemum criniflorum. The response ofT. pyri andA. andersoni females to a spider mite supply (P. ulmi orE. carpini) of 4, 8 and 16 adult female prey per female predator per day was also studied.Development ofT. pyri onE. carpini andC. vitis required a shorter period than onM. criniflorum pollen, while intermediate values were recorded forP. ulmi. When the highest number of prey was offered, the influence of different foods on oviposition rates ofT. pyri was not significant. An increase in spider mite supply favoured a shorter pre-oviposition period and higher oviposition rates.Development ofA. andersoni was faster on pollen than on spider mites, while intermediate values were found concerningC. vitis. Differences statistically significant were recorded for development onP. ulmi andC. vitis. Colomerus vitis proved to be the more suitable food in terms of oviposition. The oviposition rate decreased when feeding uponP. ulmi, but reached intermediate values onE. carpini andM. criniflorum. Increasing spider mite densities caused shorter pre-oviposition times and higher oviposition rates. Using a given number ofE. carpini females, rather than those ofP. ulmi, resulted in higher oviposition rates and shorter pre-oviposition times. For both predators, the results suggest a higher intrinsic rate of population increase onE. carpini orC. vitis than onP. ulmi. The research was supported by a grant from Regione Veneto (Lotta biologica ed integrata nel controllo di insetti ed acari dannosi). The general lines of the research have been planned by C. Duso. The authors contributed equally to the experimental work.  相似文献

The effect of temperature on reproductive parameters and longevity of the mold mite, Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) was examined at seven constant temperatures, ranging from 10 to 34 °C, and a relative humidity of 90±5%. Preoviposition period and fecundity were adversely affected by extreme temperatures and the oviposition period increased as temperature was reduced. Different patterns were observed for longevity data for males and females, with greater longevities for males at intermediate temperatures and more similar values for both sexes at extreme temperatures. Polynomial and non-linear models provided a good fit of the relationship of reproductive and longevity parameters with temperature. The effect of temperature on the intrinsic rate of increase of T. putrescentiae populations was established by the non-linear Lactin model. The optimum temperature for development was obtained at 30 °C. At this temperature, the population doubling time is 1.75 days. The lower and upper thresholds for T. putrescentiae populations were established at 10.4 and 34.8 °C, respectively. Altogether, these data provide basic information to develop sound physical control strategies of the mold mite.  相似文献

In this study, we developed an oviposition model of Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) with Tetranychus urticae Koch as prey. To obtain data for the model, we investigated the longevity, fecundity and survivorship of adult female N. californicus at six constant temperatures (16, 20, 24, 28, 32 and 36°C), 60–70% RH and a photoperiod of 16 : 8 (L : D) h. Longevity (average ± SE) decreased as temperature increased and was longest at 16°C (46.7 ± 5.25 days) and shortest at 36°C (12.8 ± 0.75 days). Adult developmental rate (1/average longevity) was described by the Lactin 1 model (r2 = 0.95). The oviposition period (average±SE) was also longest at 16°C (29.8 ± 2.93 days) and shortest at 36°C (6.7 ± 0.54 days). Fecundity (average±SE) was greatest at 24°C (43.8 ± 3.23 eggs) and lowest at 36°C (15.9 ± 1.50 eggs). The oviposition model comprised temperature‐dependent fecundity, age‐specific cumulative oviposition rate and age‐specific survival rate functions. The temperature‐dependent fecundity was best described by an exponential equation (r2 = 0.81). The age‐specific cumulative oviposition rate was best described by the three‐parameter Weibull function (r2 = 0.96). The age‐specific survival rate was best described by a reverse sigmoid function (r2 = 0.85).  相似文献

The daily rate of oviposition, fecundity, survival and adult longevity ofOrius albidipennis (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) were studied in the laboratory in Israel. These parameters were compared on three arthropod prey species: the two-spotted spider mite,Tetranychus urticae Koch; the onion thrips,Thrips tabaci Lindeman; and eggs of the almond moth,Ephestia cautella Walker. The fecundity and survival on the thrips diet (217.2 eggs/female and 98.7%, respectively) and on moth eggs (184.1 eggs/female and 84.6%, respectively) were significantly higher than on the spider mite diet (110.9 eggs/female and 40.4%, respectively). Female longevity was significantly higher onEphestia eggs (63.0 days) than on thrips (45.1 days) and mites (35.1 days). There were no significant differences in male longevity among the three diets (57.5, 64.1 and 54.5 days, respectively).  相似文献

This study examined the fecundity, oviposition, nymphal development and longevity of field‐collected samples of the tropical bedbug, Cimex hemipterus (Fabricius) (Hemiptera: Cimicidae). Under environmental conditions of 26±2°C, 70 ± 5% relative humidity and a 12‐h photoperiod, with bloodmeals provided by a human host, six strains of tropical bedbug had a fecundity of up to 50 eggs per lifetime, over 11–14 oviposition cycles. Increased feeding frequency improved fecundity. After feeding and mating, adult females normally took 2–3 days to produce a first batch of eggs. The oviposition period lasted 2–7 days before cessation of the oviposition cycle. The egg incubation period usually lasted 5–7 days before the emergence of first instars. The nymphs underwent five stadia (the first four of which each took 3–4 days, whereas the last took 4–5 days) before becoming adults at a sex ratio of 1 : 1. More than five bloodmeals were required by the nymphs to ensure a successful moult. Unmated adults lived significantly longer than mated adults (P < 0.05). Unmated females lived up to almost 7 months, but the longevity of mated males and females did not differ significantly (P > 0.05).  相似文献

Age structure—the relative numbers of eggs, immatures and adults—in populations of the house dust mitesDermatophagoides pteronyssinus andEuroglyphus maynei was investigated in four sequential monthly samples taken from mattresses in each of eight homes in Glasgow, Scotland. Additionally, age structure ofD. pteronyssinus was determined in samples taken bimonthly for 6 months from nine quadrats of a double mattress. It was found that although age structure varied considerably with time, forD. pteronyssinus in different homes the most common structure was one in which immatures were dominant, then eggs and then adults (31% of samples). Immatures or eggs were dominant in 75% of samples. ForE. maynei the age structure was quite different: the most common structure was one in which adults were dominant, then immatures and then eggs (69% of samples). In different quadrats of a double mattress, mean age structure ofD. pteronyssinus underwent a shift towards higher proportions of immatures and then eggs during the sampling period, which reflected the increase in population density detected during this period.Life and fecundity tables were constructed forD. pteronyssinus andE. maynei using previously-available in vitro data on fecundity and survivorship rates and hypothetical values based on means derived from a number of studies. From the tables the stable age distributions were calculated and compared with the age structures of the natural populations. It was found that mean age structure of natural populations ofD. pteronyssinus was fairly close to the predicted stable age distribution, but those ofE. maynei indicated the populations were in decline during the sampling period, a fact confirmed by abundance data. The concept that the rate of increase of house dust mite populations can be estimated by determining age structure of mites isolated from dust samples was explored using the hypothetical population parameters ofD. pteronyssinus. It was predicted that quite large differences in fecundity and mortality would not drastically alter the proportions of eggs, immatures and adults in stable populations.Eggs as components of the house dust mite population are considered seriously for the first time. Those ofD. pteronyssinus andE. maynei were identified and differentiated by allometry. It is stressed that forD. pteronyssinus, during the sampling period, half or more of the mites in a dust sample may be represented as eggs, and to ignore them is to deliberately make a less accurate estimate of population density than could be otherwise achieved.  相似文献

The effect of single versus multiple mating on longevity and fecundity as well as the number of matings required to maximize a female’s reproductive success of the predatory mite Kampimodromus aberrans Oudemans were studied under laboratory conditions. Newly emerged adult females of the stock colony of K. aberrans were placed individually on a bean leaf disc, and maintained at 25°C and 16:8 LD. A young male remained with a female for limited periods or continuously. Mating was a requisite for oocyte maturation and oviposition. Females which mated three to four times during their life and females in continuous presence of males, laid significantly and considerably more eggs than single-mated females. Virgin females lived the longest, and those in continuous presence of males the shortest. In all cases and irrespective of the number of matings, the sex ratio of the offspring was male-biased in the first three to four days of oviposition period, and female-biased in later days.  相似文献

The ultrastructures of the retractor muscles of Gené's organs in the cattle ticksBoophilus microplus andAmblyomma variegatum are described. The innervation, neuromuscular junctions, and insertions of the muscles are also described. The retractor muscles are important in controlling the actions of Gené's organ, the egg waxing organ in ticks, during oviposition in the female. The ultrastructural features of the muscles are typical of arthropod muscles, and the nerve terminals at the neuromuscular junctions contain small electron lucent synaptic vesicles with a diameter of 50 nm, and also larger dense core vesicles with a diameter of 100 nm. Evidence is presented implicatingl-glutamate andl-aspartate as putative excitatory transmitters at the tick neuromuscular junction. The excitatory post-synaptic potentials recorded in the muscles were abolished in the presence of low concentrations ofl-glutamic acid andl-aspartic acid, but were unaffected by acetyl-choline, 4-aminobutyric acid and octopamine, suggesting that glutamic acid and aspartic acid interact with receptors on the muscle membrane.  相似文献

The effects of parasitism by the ArgentinianTrichopoda giacomellii(Blanchard) on reproduction and longevity of its host,Nezara viridula(L.) are reported. Parasitoid larvae suppress egg maturation, reducing by 70% the fecundity of mature female hosts during the period of larval development. Egg viability was not affected, but mating frequency was reduced by approximately 50%. When parasitized as newly eclosed adults, 84% of females fail to reproduce. In male hosts, fertility and mating frequency were not affected during the period of larval parasitoid development. In male and reproductively immature female hosts, death was coincident with, or occurred shortly after parasitoid emergence (2–4 days); in mature females, death occurred on average 2 weeks after larval parasitoid emergence. Host mortality occurred as a consequence of tissue damage incurred as the parasitoid larvae emerged from the host. Some individuals survived parasitism though no further reproductive activity (mating or oviposition) occurred. The effectiveness ofT. giacomelliias a biological control agent is discussed in relation to its impact on reproduction and survival of its host and contrasted with the action of otherTrichopodaspecies.  相似文献

The results of laboratory tests showed that mortality of adult eulophids, primarily,Sympiesis sericeicornis (Nees),S. marylandensis Girault andPnigalio flavipes (Ashmead), was significantly (P<0.05) lower than that of adultPholetesor ornigis (Weed) when exposed to temperatures between 20° and 36°C for 48 h. However, adultP. ornigis lived longer than those of the eulophids at 15°C, but were shorter liver at 33°C. The fecundity ofP. ornigis was little affected at temperatures of 15°, 20°, 24° and 33°C. Exposure of adultP. ornigis to 30°C for 16 h resulted in reduced longevity of both sexes but did not affect fecundity or the proportion of females ovipositing. Mortality of pupae of the eulophids was significantly lower than that of pupae ofP. ornigis at temperatures of 20°, 30° and 33°C. The sex ratio of surviving adults was not affected by temperature.   相似文献

Reproductive attributes, age-specific fecundity and natality based life-tables of an aphidophagous ladybird, Propylea dissecta (Mulsant) were investigated at five temperatures, using aphid, Aphis gossypii as prey. Pre-oviposition period decreased significantly with increase in temperature up to 27°C and thereafter increased at a slower rate. Egg viability dropped significantly at temperature extremes. Females lived longer than males; however, longevity decreased significantly with increase in temperature. The predicted total fecundity and oviposition rate were 952.54 eggs and 35.15 eggs per day at 27°C predicted by a mathematical model compared to empirical estimates of 856.00±30.00 eggs and 39.7±2.26 eggs per day. Age-specific fecundity was triangular and temperature dependent. The peak in oviposition rate occurred earlier at higher temperatures. The highest values of net reproductive rate (Ro=431.1), intrinsic rate of increase (rm=0.2134 day-1) and finite rate of increase (λ=1.2379 day-1) were recorded at 27°C, which suggests it is the optimum temperature for the mass rearing of P. dissecta.  相似文献
