Poultry excreta substantially increased the crude protein (CP) content and the calcium and phosporus content of the base bedding materials. The crude fibre (CF) content of sawdust (52.3%) was higher than that of wheat straw (38.9%) and bagasse (30.2%). Dry matter digestibility in vitro (IVDMD) of wheat straw, bagasse and sawdust poultry litters (PL) was 65.4, 64.5 and 48.1%, respectively. Green sorghum fodder when ensiled alone or with 20% wheat straw PL, sawdust PL or bagasse PL on fresh basis contained 4.67, 7.80, 10.00 and 7.55% CP, respectively. Nitrogen-free extract (NFE) content of PL silages was lower than that of the control. Apart from wheat straw PL, all silages accumulated considerable amounts of lactic acid. The total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) concentrations were similar for all silages. The addition of PL caused an increase in the proportion of ammonia nitrogen. A feeding trial with crossbred adult male cattle revealed no significant difference in dry matter (DM), CP and ether extract (EE) digestibility of wheat straw and bagasse PL silages. The CF digestibility was similar for all the silages. Sawdust PL silage, however, was significantly lower (P < 0.05) in digestibility of DM, EE and NFE compared to other PL based silages. The DCP and TDN values for the control, wheat straw, bagasse and sawdust PL silages were 2.0, 60.1; 4.3, 45.3; 6.1, 50.3 and 2.9, 41.9 kg/100 kg DM, respectively.  相似文献

Faeces or manure (faeces + urine + straw bedding) from beef cattle given maize silage diets were ensiled with whole-crop maize (27% dry matter), after treatment with NaOH at 0, 7.5 or 15 g per 100 g excreta DM, so that excreta DM comprised 25, 50 or 100% of the total DM, in a factorial design. A control treatment consisted of maize forage ensiled alone. The ensiled products were analysed for the content of fermentation acids, pH, nitrogenous compounds, structural carbohydrates, starch, water-soluble carbohydrates, ash, sodium and digestibility in vitro. Mixtures which contained 25% excreta DM were well preserved with relatively low values for pH, butyric acid and ammonia-N, and a high proportion of fermentation acids as lactic acid. Mixtures which contained 50% excreta DM were generally poorly preserved. Addition of NaOH to excreta prior to ensiling was reflected in a decrease in the content of neutral detergent fibre and increased digestibility of organic matter in vitro in the ensiled products. Mixtures of 25% excreta treated with 15 g NaOH/100 g excreta DM gave values for digestibility in vitro similar to that of the maize ensiled alone.  相似文献

A study was conducted to evaluate the ensiling characteristics of chopped sugarbeets with dry feedstuffs and the corresponding change in the nutritive composition of the silages with the addition of dry substrates. Pre-calculated amounts of each feedstuff were weighed individually to achieve desired proportions of each silage product and thoroughly mixed for 5 min. After mixing, the silage was distributed evenly into three 19-L buckets and sealed to provide an anaerobic environment. The treatments for this study were arranged in a 4 × 4 + 1 factorial design to determine the effects of DM level and source of dry feedstuff on the ensiling properties of sugarbeets following a 42-d fermentation period. Treatments were ensiled sugarbeets alone (250 g/kg) or based on (1) formulated silage DM concentrations of 275, 350, 425, and 500 g/kg and (2) the inclusion of dry feedstuffs (alfalfa hay, dry-rolled corn, wheat middlings, and wheat straw). Fermentation and nutritive characteristics of ensiled sugarbeets were influenced with the addition of dry substrates. A linear increase (P<0.001) in silage pH was observed with the addition of alfalfa, dry-rolled corn, wheat middlings, and wheat straw to ensiled sugarbeets. Lactic acid increased (P<0.001) with the addition of wheat middlings. Alfalfa addition to sugarbeet silage did not alter (P<0.001) lactate concentration. Concentration of lactate decreased (P=0.01) when corn was added, while wheat straw addition did not influence (P=0.37) lactate. A contrast was used to compare ensiling characteristics of sugarbeets alone (250 g/kg DM) to 350 g/kg DM (sugarbeets with dry substrates). Results indicated fermentative parameters were altered; pH increased (P<0.001) for all dry substrates while lactate was lower (P=0.003) for the sugarbeets ensiled with dry-rolled corn compared with sugarbeets ensiled alone. Alfalfa, wheat straw, and wheat middlings decreased (P<0.001) while dry-rolled corn did not affect (P=0.54) in vitro DM digestion. These results indicate the inclusion of dry feedstuffs with sugarbeets altered fermentation and with the exception of corn, decreased in vitro DM digestion. Nutrient composition and DM content of ensiled sugarbeets was altered with the addition of dry substrates.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of inoculant, enzymes and inoculant-enzymes mixture on fermentation quality, nutritive value, and microbial changes of sorghum straw silage. Sorghum straws were collected and treated with distilled water (control), inoculant, enzymes and inoculant+enzymes prior to ensiling. Three bag silos for each silage (denoted C, I, E and I+E, respectively) were opened after 3, 7, 11, 15, 30 and 60 days for chemical and microbial analyses. For all the silages, there was a rapid decline in pH during the first 3 days of ensiling. Relative to silage C, all the treatment (I, E and I+E) had higher (P<0.05) lactic acid concentration at all ensiling periods. Population of LAB during all ensiling time was numerically greater for treated than control silages. Separate addition of two additives, especially for enzymes, can effectively (P<0.05) decrease aNDF and ADF concentration. Treatments with enzymes (E, I+E) can also improve significantly silage IVDMD and IVNDFD concentration. These results indicated that the addition of additives can improve the sorghum straw silage fermentation quality at different extent.  相似文献

The effect of a new strain ofPropionibacterium shermanii (PAB), applied at ensiling, on the aerobic stability of wheat and sorghum silages was studied in several experiments under laboratory conditions. In the one experiment with wheat and in those with sorghum a lactic acid bacteria (LAB) inoculant (Lactobacillus plantarum andPediococcus cerevisiae) was also included. After treatment, the chopped forages were ensiled in 1.5-L anaerobic jars which were sampled in triplicate on predetermined dates to follow fermentation dynamics. At the end of the experiments, the silages were subjected to an aerobic stability test. The PAB inoculant improved the aerobic stability only in one experiment with wheat, in which the decrease in pH was very slow; the final pH remained relatively high (4.5). The PAB-treated silages contained 19.5±2.0 g of propionic acid per kg of dry matter. In the experiments with sorghum, the control and PAB-inoculated silages were stable, whereas LAB-inoculated silages deteriorated. The results suggest that PAB can survive in and improve the aerobic stability of only slow-fermenting silages which are prone to aerobic deterioration.  相似文献

The process of ensiling was studied in fresh maize (15% dry matter (DM)), wilted maize (18 and 24% DM) and maize mixed with 5–20% of wheat straw (18, 25 and 29% DM). Silages with 24% DM were preserved better than those with lower dry matter content. There was a significant change, with time, in pH, titrable acidity, volatile fatty acids, lactic acid, number of lactic acid bacteria, volatile nitrogen and soluble sugars in all the treatments. There was a significant decline in volatile fatty acids (P<0.05) and ammonia (P<0.01) production, and a significant increase in soluble sugar (P<0.01) in silages made after wilting. A significant decline in titrable acidity (P<0.01), volatile fatty acid production (p<0.05) and ammonia nitrogen (P<0.01), and a significant increase in pH (P<0.01) were found in silages of maize mixed with wheat straw. The overall rate of fermentation decreased during the first few days of fermentation in wilted and wheat straw silages, but the final products had characteristics of a good silage. In the second experiment the effect of urea and molasses was studied on wheat straw plus maize (15:85) silage with an initial DM content of 31–34%. Three levels of molasses (0, 3 and 6% of fresh weight) and two levels of urea (0 and 0.5% of fresh weight) were studied. Urea treatment with 3% molasses was found to be the best on the basis of silage characteristics.  相似文献

Broiler litter was deep stacked and ensiled with water to achieved 40% moisture before being added, with or without 5% sugarcane molasses or with rumen contents, to a basal diet. The influence of stacking and ensiling of broiler litter on the numbers of Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus and total number of colony forming units (CFU) was investigated. Nutritive value of broiler litter processed by deep stacking and ensiling was evaluated in a digestibility trial. The experiment was conducted with 30 wethers allotted to five diets. A basal diet (20% corn grain, 23% wheat bran, 37% cotton seed cake, 18% wheat straw and 2% dicalcium phosphate) was given alone (1) or with broiler litter processed by deep stacking (2), ensiling (3), ensiling with 5% added molasses (4), or ensiling with rumen contents (1:1, wet basis) (5). For Diets 2–5, the ratio of basal diet to silage was 1:1, dry basis. For the digestion trial, diets were given at 20 g dry matter (DM) kg−1 body weight per day. Initial samples of broiler litter showed 2.5 × 108 CFU and Salmonella, Shigella and Proteus were present. The processes of deep stacking and ensiling were equally effective in achieving a complete elimination of all the pathogens. Apparent digestibilities of organic matter (OM) and crude protein (CP) (559.1 g kg−1 and 608.7 g kg−1 DM) were lower (P < 0.05) for diet 2 (deep stacked litter) than for the other waste-containing diets (OM: 578.7 g kg−1, 582.9 g kg−1, 594.1 g kg−1; CP: 688.6 g kg−1, 675.8 g kg−1, 709.0 g kg−1 DM, for Diets 3, 4 and 5, respectively). Among the waste-containing diets, cellulose digestibility (398.7 g kg−1 DM) was higher (P < 0.05) for Diet 5 (ensiled litter-rumen contents). The results indicate that deep stacking and ensiling are equally feasible and effective for eliminating the pathogens and processed broiler litter can be incorporated in the diet of ruminants at levels of up to 50% without any adverse effect on the health of the animals.  相似文献

Aerobic deterioration of silages is initiated by (facultative) aerobic micro-organisms, usually yeasts, that oxidize the preserving organic acids. In this study, a Lactobacillus buchneri strain isolated from maize silage was evaluated for its potential as a bacterial inoculant that enhances aerobic stability of silages. In four experiments, chopped whole crop maize (30-43% dry matter (DM)) was inoculated with Lact. buchneri and ensiled in laboratory silos. Uninoculated silages served as controls. Analysis of silages treated with Lact. buchneri at levels of 103-106 cfu g-1 after about 3 months of anaerobic storage showedthat acetic acid and 1-propanol contents increased with inoculum levels above 104 cfu g-1,whereas lactic acid decreased. Propionic acid, silage pH and DM loss increased withinoculum levels above 105 cfu g-1. Time course experiments with maize inoculated with Lact. buchneri at 4 x 104-2 x 105 cfu g-1 showed that up to 7-14 d after ensiling, Lact. buchneri had no effect on silage characteristics. Thereafter, the lactic acid content of the inoculated silages declined and, simultaneously, acetic acid and, to a lesser extent, propionic acid and 1-propanol, accumulated. Inoculation reduced survival of yeasts during the anaerobic storage phase and inhibited yeast growth when the silage was exposed to O2, resulting in a substantial improvement in aerobic stability. The results indicate that the use of Lact. buchneri as a silage inoculant can enhance aerobic stability by inhibition of yeasts. The ability of the organism to ferment lactic acid to acetic acid appears to be an important underlying principle of this effect.  相似文献

Second cut big bale grass silage was prepared with grass ensiled alone or with added pelleted, molassed sugar beet feed (MSBF) at 32 or 64 g MSBF kg−1 fresh weight of grass. Addition of MSBF at ensilage increased silage dry matter (DM), water soluble carbohydrate and lactic acid concentrations and decreased ammonia concentration. When fed to wether lambs, MSBF addition, whether at ensilage or given separately, variably improved DM intake, live-weight gain and feed conversion efficiency. Ruminal concentrations of ammonia were reduced and acetate molar proportion increased in diets supplemented with MSBF separately compared with the silage only control diet. Animal performance was generally improved by MSBF supplementation with responses to silages made with added MSBF comparable to those from silage supplemented with MSBF at feeding. There was little difference in animal performance between silages made with 32 or 64 g kg−1 MSBF added at ensiling.  相似文献

AIMS: To evaluate the fermentation characteristics and the effects of Lactobacillus buchneri inoculation in ensiling whole crop rice. METHODS AND RESULTS: Laboratory-scale silages were prepared from whole crop rice harvested at yellow-ripe stage. The crop was ensiled for 2 months with and without inoculation of L. buchneri at 10(4), 10(5) and 10(6) CFU g(-1). The effect of prolonged ensiling was also studied by using the same crop; the silos were opened at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months, while the inoculation was made at 10(5) CFU g(-1). Enhanced alcoholic fermentation was found in untreated silage; the sum of ethanol and 2,3-butanediol were seven times higher at 2 months than those of lactic and volatile fatty acids, while the differences were diminished at 12 months owing to the reduction of ethanol in the late ensiling period. Inoculation of L. buchneri inhibited the alcohols; however, ethanol yet prevailed over the fermentation until 6 months, after which acetic acid became the main product in the inoculated silage. Regardless of inoculation and ensiling period, yeasts were not found in whole crop rice silage. CONCLUSIONS: Substantial amounts of ethanol and 2,3-butanediol would be produced in silage prepared from whole crop rice. The alcoholic fermentation can be suppressed when inoculated with L. buchneri. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Inoculation of L. buchneri could be an option to prevent ethanol fermentation in silage.  相似文献

AIMS: The purpose of this work was to study the effect of temperature on the ensiling process and aerobic stability of corn and wheat silages. METHODS AND RESULTS: The crops were ensiled in 1.5 l anaerobic jars, with and without an inoculant, at room or elevated temperatures (37-41 degrees C). After two months of ensiling, the silages were subjected to an aerobic stability test at room and elevated (33 degrees C) temperature. The results indicate that ensiling at elevated temperatures resulted in higher pH values, less lactic acid and higher losses. The silages which were stored at elevated temperatures were more susceptible to aerobic spoilage than those stored at room temperature, especially when the test was performed at elevated temperature. CONCLUSION: High temperatures are detrimental to both the ensiling process and the aerobic stability of silages. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The findings of the current study suggest that in a warm climate, special care should be taken during silage making and storage in order to avoid heating as much as possible. In addition, in a warm climate, silages are more susceptible to aerobic deterioration and therefore, special care should be taken during unloading.  相似文献

Whole crop third cut alfalfa, brown mid-rib (bmr) corn, and corn were chopped and inoculated with one of four microbial inoculants used. Uninoculated silage was the control treatment. Each crop was ensiled in four mini-silos (1 L glass jars) per treatment. All silos were fermented for 60 days at room temperature (22 °C), and then they were opened and analyzed for fermentation products, fiber constituents and N fractions. A fraction of wet silage was ground with a blender for 30 s. In vitro gas production was measured in 160 ml sealed serum vials at 3, 6, 9, 24, and 48 h using the wet ground silage. At 9 and 48 h, rumen fluid was analyzed for volatile fatty acids (VFA) and microbial biomass yield (MBY). In all the three crops, the four inoculants produced only minor changes in pH and fermentation products during ensiling. Of the variables measured, soluble nonprotein N fractions were the characteristics most often affected by some inoculants. At 9 h incubation, in vitro gas production and VFA did not differ between control and inoculated silages, but MBY did. Among crops, alfalfa and corn silages had higher MBY than did bmr corn silage. Among inoculants, three of the four inoculated silages produced more MBY than did control. At 48 h, alfalfa silage produced higher MBY than did corn or bmr silage, and two of the inoculated silages had more MBY than did the control. There was no inoculant by crop interaction. Results suggest that some silage inoculants are capable of altering rumen fermentation, even in cases where effects on silage fermentation are small, and that this effect may be linked to better preservation of crop protein during ensiling.  相似文献

This study examines the influence of ensiled sugar beets (Beta vulgaris ssp. vulgaris) on preference and short-time dry matter (DM) intake of goats. Whole sugar beets were ensiled either without any silage additive (sugar beet silage (SBS)) or with a chemical additive (6 l/t) containing 85% formic and propionic acids (treated sugar beet silage (TBS)) and were chopped after ensiling. The influence of different proportions of SBS (0%, 6.25%, 12.5%, 18.75% and 25% of dietary DM) and TBS (0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of DM) in partial mixed rations on short-time DM intake by goats (adult Saanen type wethers; n = 10) was studied in two separate, independent trials. Preference behaviour was investigated by offering the goats two different experimental diets per day and offer each possible combination of them (n = 10) once throughout the trial. On this basis, the mean DM intake (within 30 min and 3 h) of each experimental diet was determined. Both sugar beet silages showed good fermentation quality with low pH. By using the chemical silage additive, the production of ethanol was reduced and considerable amounts of sugar were preserved. In the short-term preference experiment, increasing concentrations of sugar beet silage in the ration increased DM intake (p < 0.05) in a linear way with a strong preference for those diets containing high amounts of sugar beet silage. Initial DM intake after 30 min was 4–5 fold increased for diets containing the highest beet concentration. It is assumed that the preference was positively influenced by sugar and sweet taste or the associated higher concentration of metabolisable energy.  相似文献

In three experiments barley straw chopped to 5 cm nominal particle length was ensiled in laboratory silos for 90 days after treatment with alkali. In the first two experiments, NaOH was added at 0, 1.05, 2.10, 3.15 or 4.20 g per 100 g straw dry matter (DM) (Experiment 1) or at 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 g per 100 g straw DM (Experiment 2) in solutions at either 60 ml or 120 ml solution per 100 g straw DM. Digestibility in vitro of organic matter (OM) and digestible OM in DM (DOMD) increased with increasing level of NaOH. The effect of volume of solution on digestibility was small. The pH of the straws decreased during storage. The content of neutral detergent fibre decreased as the level of NaOH increased, but there was relatively little change in the contents of acid detergent fibre or acid detergent lignin. Lactate and acetate were detected in all silages, and butyrate was present in silages made from straws treated with less than 5 g NaOH per 100 g straw DM. On opening the silos little moulding was seen and the temperature of the straws remained close to ambient in both experiments throughout 16 days of subsequent exposure to air.In the third experiment, the comparative effects of Ca(OH)2 and KOH were studied alone and in combination (5050 by weight) with NaOH. KOH mixed with NaOH gave levels of DOMD in vitro similar to those obtained with NaOH alone. Ca(OH)2, whilst improving DOMD, was slightly less effective than the other alkalis.The optimum level of alkali for the treatment of barley straw prior to ensiling appeared to be 7.5 g/100 g straw DM. At this level of addition, DOMD in vitro would be expected to be about 65%. Ca(OH)2 is worth further attention as an alternative to NaOH.  相似文献

Preservation of soybean milk residue (SMR) by ensiling with peanut hulls (PEH) and subsequent utilization of silage by mixed ruminal microorganisms were investigated. Treatments were combinations of SMR with PEH at the following ratios: 100:0, 78:22, 71:29, and 60:40 (fresh weight basis). After eight weeks of ensiling, silage lactic acid, crude protein, ether extract, and non-fiber carbohydrates were highest when SMR was ensiled alone and reduced as amounts of SMR decreased. Similar trends were observed for silage in vitro dry matter digestibility, and gas and volatile fatty acid production by ruminal microorganisms. Conversely, silage pH, dry matter, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, cellulose, and lignin increased accordingly. The ensiling treatment appeared to alter silage cell wall composition. In particular, silage treated with PEH at the low level (78:22) resulted in reduced fiber contents and lignification. The silage (SMR:PEH=78:22) had enhanced efficiency of both silage fermentation and in vitro ruminal fermentation pattern.  相似文献

The effects of applying Lactobacillus plantarum and Lact. amylovorus at ensiling on wheat silage stored at 25 and41 °C was studied under laboratory conditions. The inoculants were applied at 106 cfu g−1.Silages with no additives served as controls. Three jars per treatment were sampled on days 2, 8 and 60 after ensiling, for chemical and microbiological analyses. After the ensiling period, the silages were subjected to an aerobic stability test. The control and Lact. plantarum inoculated wheat fermented faster at 25 than at 41 °C, whereas silages inoculated with Lact. amylovorus fermented faster at 41 °C. This was apparent from the rate of pH decrease and from the contents of residual sugars and lactic acid in the final silages. The numbers of lactobacilli in the control and Lact. plantarum silages at 41 °C after 2 and 8 days of ensiling were lower than in the corresponding silages at 25 °C. For the Lact. amylovorus silage the opposite held true. The control silages at both temperatures and the Lact. plantarum silage at 41 °C were the most stable silages under aerobic exposure.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the fermentative profile and microbial populations of wilted and non-wilted alfalfa silages ensiled with or without inoculant and the population dynamics of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) of wilted alfalfa plant and theirs silage. A 2?×?2?×?6 factorial arrangement was used, with the absence or presence of wilting (W), with and without bacterial inoculant (I) and six fermentation periods (P) (1, 3, 7, 14, 28 and 56 days), in a completely randomized design, with three replicates. The alfalfa was slightly wilted for 6 h and increased the dry matter content from 133.9 to 233.4 g/kg. It was performed the cultivation, followed by the isolation of LAB from samples of alfalfa forage before ensiling and its silage only in non-inoculated silages, after different fermentation periods. DNA was extracted from the isolated strains of LAB; the 16S rRNA gene sequences were amplified by PCR and the sequences were compared to those available from the GenBank database. Wilting provided silages with lower pH, ammonia nitrogen and acetic acid concentrations. The wilting process did not alter the amount of LAB; however, it affected the LAB diversity of the silages. The Lactobacillus plantarum was the predominant species in non-wilted and wilted silages.

The nutritive value of the dried and ensiled apple pomace (DAP and EAP), taken from two processing factories in Urmia city, was compared with maize silage (MS). For EAP, 1 tonnes of AP was mixed with 100 kg of wheat straw and 5 kg of urea (on fresh weight basis). The chemical composition of all feedstuffs was determined by laboratory analysis. Additionally, pH and the concentration of ammonia-N and volatile fatty acids (VFA) were measured in the EAP and MS silages. An in vivo digestibility study was undertaken with three Gezel wether sheep to determine the digestible organic matter content in the dry matter (DOMD) and to estimate the metabolisable energy (ME) content. The dry matter (DM) and protein effective degradabilities (ED) of the feedstuffs were assessed using a nylon bag method. The mean values of the DM, OM, CP, acid detergent fibre (ADF), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), lignin and acid detergent insoluble nitrogen (ADIN) were, respectively, 749 g/kg fresh weight, 929, 64, 405, 473, 10 and 5.6 g/kg DM for DAP, 284 g/kg fresh weight, 925, 72, 460, 567, 20 and 6.5 g/kg DM for EAP and 429 g/kg fresh weight, 936, 260, 463, 44 and 4.4 g/kg DM for MS. No butyric acid was found in EAP and MS, which indicate good preservation for these silages. However, ammonia-N was higher in MS than EAP. The DOMD values were 690, 654 and 580 g/kg DM for DAP, MS and EAP, respectively. The DOMD and ME values for DAP and MS were significantly higher than those of EAP. The dry matter ED of EAP was significantly lower than that of DAP and MS and there was a significant difference among all feedstuffs in the protein ED where MS was the highest and EAP the lowest. The nutritive value of AP was reduced by the addition of wheat straw. However, ensiling apple with straw is a practical method to preserve such high moisture by-product.  相似文献

The effect of applying commercial lactic acid bacteria inoculants at ensiling on the aerobic stability of silages was studied under laboratory conditions. The silages used were wheat, hedysarum, corn and various sorghum cultivars at various stages of maturity. Three inoculants were used, two containing Lactobacillus plantarum, Enterococcus faecium and Pediococcus acidilactici (H/M F, Medipharm, USA and Sil-All, Alltech, UK) and one containing Ent. faecium (Lacticil, M74, Medipharm, Sweden). The inoculants were applied at 0.5 times 106 cfu g-1. Silages with no additives served as controls. After treatment, the chopped forages were ensiled in 1.5 1 anaerobic jars; there were six jars per treatment. After ensiling for 45 d, the silages were tested for aerobic stability in a test in which CO2 production was measured along with chemical and microbiological parameters.
The inoculated silages that spoiled upon aerobic exposure faster than the controls were those of wheat and of the sorghum cultivar FS5 at the milk stage of maturity. This was evident from intensive CO2 production and development of yeasts and moulds. Regression analysis indicated that aerobic deterioration of inoculated silages was associated with high levels of residual water-soluble carbohydrates and lactic acid and lack of volatile fatty acids. Aerobic spoilage of inoculated silages was attributed mainly to yeast activity.  相似文献

Formic acid, formaldehyde, tannic acid or mixtures of two were studied on their effects on ensiled alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) amino acids and N fractions by the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (CNCPS). The alfalfa forage was a second cut and was wilted to a mean over-dry dry matter (DM) content of 330 g/kg. All silages were prepared as mini-silos using 100 ml polypropylene centrifuge tubes (50 g) on a small laboratory-scale, with the additives added in 20 ml aliquots/kg herbage fresh weight (FW). After 35 d of ensiling, most of forage true protein was converted to fraction A and all of the added additives reduced fraction A content in the ensiled forages (P<0.05). The content of fraction B1 in all of the additive-treated silages was higher (P<0.05) than that in control silage. Large proportions of true protein in the tannic acid/formaldehyde- and formic acid/formaldehyde-treated silages were fractions B2 and B3, respectively. No difference was observed on fraction C content between the control silage and silages treated with additives except for the formaldehyde or tannic acid-treated silages. Amino acids were well preserved in additive-treated silages compared with the control silage. Concentration of total amino acid was higher in formic acid-treated silages than that in the control and the other additive-treated silages (P<0.05). The pattern of changes in individual amino acid in all of the silages indicated that branched chain amino acids and methionine were relatively well preserved during fermentation but the basic and acidic amino acids were not.  相似文献
