First record of Chilomycterus reticulatus (Osteichthyes: Diodontidae) in the Mediterranean Sea

The spotfin burrfish Chilomycterus reticulatus (405 mm standard length) is recorded for the first time on the shoreline of the Mediterranean Sea. The adult specimen was found dried on a beach near the south Sardinian Sea (S. Antioco's Island). Photographs and morphometrics of the specimen are given.     

Neomerinthe bathypevimensis sp. nov. from deep waters of the southern Red Sea

A new species of scorpionfish Neomerinthe bathyperimensis is described from a single specimen, dredged in deep waters of the southern Red Sea. The type specimen is aberrant in that it lacks the anal-fin spines and their supporting pterygiophores. This is the first record of the genus from the Red Sea and the north-western Indian Ocean.     

First record of the dog snapper Lutjanus jocu in the Mediterranean Sea

The capture of a single specimen of the dog snapper Lutjanus jocu from the Ligurian Sea (north‐west Mediterranean Sea) in November 2005 is reported. This finding constitutes the first record of this species from the Mediterranean Sea.     

Presence of the Guinean puffer Sphoeroides marmoratus (Lowe, 1838) in the Mediterranean Sea

The collection of a single specimen of the Guinean puffer Sphoeroides marmoratus from the Ionian Sea in September 1977, misidentified at that time as Lagocephalus lagocephalus , shows that this subtropical species of fish has occurred in the Mediterranean Sea from 30 years ago.     

The occurrence of Pampus argenteus (Euphrasen, 1788), (Osteichthyes, Perciformes, Stromateoidei, Stromateidae) in the North Sea

The occurrence in the North Sea of a specimen of the white pomfret, Pampus argenteus (Euphrasen, 1788), a mesopelagic fish which is native to the Indian Ocean and particularly South-east Asia and the East China Sea, is described. Other anomalous distribution records for the same species are examined and some possible explanations investigated.     

First record of the paedomorphic fish Schindleria (Gobioidei, Schindleriidae) from the Red Sea

A male specimen of the paedomorphic fish Schindleria sp. was collected by plankton net, in February 2005, from a reef lagoon from Hurghada on the Egyptian coast of the northern Red Sea. This is the first record of the Schindleriidae in the Red Sea.

对江豚的六项小肾结构指数的测定发现,黄海沿岸江豚的小肾结构指数明显高于长江江豚的。提示前者具有较高的尿浓缩能力。对尿的分析所获结论相同,反映出二者对所栖水域的不同渗透浓度的适应。     

The Japanese threadfin bream Nemipterus japonicus, a new Indo‐Pacific fish in the Mediterranean Sea

A specimen of the Japanese threadfin bream Nemipterus japonicus was recorded for the first time from the Mediterranean Sea. The presence of this Indo‐Pacific fish in the Mediterranean is evidently due to migration from the Red Sea via the Suez Canal.     

The largescaled terapon Terapon theraps: a new Indo‐Pacific fish in the Mediterranean Sea

A specimen of the largescaled terapon Terapon theraps was recorded for the first time from the Mediterranean Sea. The finding of T. theraps in the northernmost part of the Mediterranean Sea raises the number of Lessepsian migrant species to at least 68 and in the Adriatic Sea to at least 11.
