Taxonomic study on Lathrobium Gravenhorst (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Paederinae) from Longwangshan Mountain, East China

Species of the genus Lathrobium Gravenhorst from Longwangshan Mountain, Zhejiang, East China are studied. A total of five species are recognized, among which three are described here as new: Lathrobium lingaesp. n., Lathrobium longwangshanensesp. n. and Lathrobium uncumsp. n., one species was unidentified and the female of Lathrobium tianmushanense Watanabe is newly reported. All of these species are illustrated and keyed.     

Five new apterous species of the genus Lathrobium Gravenhorst (Coleoptera,Staphylinidae, Paederinae) from the Baishanzu Natural Reserve,East China

Five new apterous species of the genus Lathrobium Gravenhorst, 1802 from Baishanzu Natural Reserve, Zhejiang, East China, Lathrobium baishanzuense sp. n., Lathrobium immanissimum sp. n., Lathrobium obstipum sp. n., Lathrobium pilosum sp. n. and Lathrobium tangi sp. n., are described and illustrated. The Lathrobium fauna of the study region is represented by two distinct lineages.     

On the Lathrobium fauna of the Emei Shan,Sichuan, China (Coleoptera,Staphylinidae, Paederinae)

Six species of Lathrobium Gravenhorst, 1802 from the Emei Shan, Sichuan, are described and illustrated: Lathrobium iunctum Assing & Peng sp. n., Lathrobium coniunctum Assing & Peng sp. n., Lathrobium conexum Assing & Peng sp. n., Lathrobium ensigerum Assing & Peng sp. n., Lathrobium hastatum Assing & Peng sp. n., and Lathrobium bisinuatum Assing & Peng sp. n. Based on their primary and secondary sexual characters, they represent two distinct lineages, each of them comprising three species. A key to the species recorded from the Emei Shan is provided.

Three new species of the genus Lathrobium Gravenhorst, 1802 from Sichuan Province, Southwest China are described and illustrated: Lathrobium acutissimumsp. n., Lathrobium hailuogouensesp. n. and Lathrobium labahensesp. n. A checklist of Chinese Lathrobium is provided.     

Eight new apterous Lathrobium species (Coleoptera,Staphylinidae) from Sichuan,Southwest China

Eight apterous species of the paederine genus Lathrobium Gravenhorst, 1802 from the Chinese province Sichuan are described, illustrated, and distinguished from closely related and/or geographically close congeners: Lathrobium erlangense Peng & Li sp. n. (Erlang Shan), Lathrobium blandum Peng & Li sp. n. (Labahe N. R.), Lathrobium yelense Peng & Li sp. n. (Yele), Lathrobium obscurum Peng & Li sp. n. (Yele), Lathrobium yinziweii Peng & Li sp. n. (Yele), Lathrobium illustre Peng & Li sp. n. (Yele), Lathrobium micangense Peng & Li sp. n. (Micang Shan) and Lathrobium agglutinatum Assing & Peng sp. n. (Qingcheng Shan). The total number of described Lathrobium species from Sichuan now stands at 39, that of mainland China at 165.

Two new apterous species of the genus Lathrobium Gravenhorst, 1802 from Fujian Province, East China, Lathrobium daocongchaoi Peng & Li, sp. n. and Lathrobium fujianense Peng & Li,sp. n., are described and illustrated.     

Two additional new species of the Stenus indubius group (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae) from China

Two new species of the Stenus indubius group from China are described: Stenus huapingensissp. n. from Guangxi Province and Stenus zhujianqingisp. n. from Zhejiang Province. Habitus photos and illustrations of diagnostic characters of the new species and two described species, Stenus paradecens Tang & Li, 2005 and Stenus guniujiangense Tang & Li, 2005, are provided.     

The genus Scaphidium Olivier in East China (Coleoptera,Staphylinidae, Scaphidiinae)

A review of 21 species of Scaphidium Olivier from East China is presented, including 6 new species: S. jinmingi sp. n. (Zhejiang, Anhui, Chongqing), S. crypticum sp. n. (Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangxi), S. varifasciatum sp. n. (Zhejiang, An’hui), S. robustum sp. n. (Fujian, Guizhou, Chongqing, Guangxi, Yunnan), S. connexum sp. n. (Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangxi), and S. bayibini sp. n. (An’hui). New province records for S. comes Löbl, S. grande Gestro, S. sauteri Miwa & Mitono, S. formosanum Pic, S. carinense Achard, S. sinense Pic, S. delatouchei Achard, S. biwenxuani He, Tang & Li, S. klapperichi Pic, S. stigmatinotum Löbl, S. wuyongxiangi He, Tang & Li, and S. direptum Tang & Li as well as some biological notes are reported. Habitus and diagnostic characters of all species are photographed and a key to Scaphidium species of East China is provided.     

Two new species and new record of Batricavus Yin & Li (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Pselaphinae) from China

Two new species, Batricavus abdominalis Yin & Li, sp. n. and Batricavus hainanensis Yin & Li, sp. n. are described from Hainan, South China, with male habitus and major diagnostic features illustrated. Batricavus tibialis Yin & Li is newly recorded from Zhejiang, East China. Keys to both sexes of the genus are included.     

Two new Mallinella species from southern China (Araneae,Zodariidae)

Two new species of the spider genus Mallinella Strand, 1906 are reported from China: Mallinella sphaerica sp. n. (male, female) from Tianmu Mountain, Zhejiang Province and Mallinella pluma sp. n. (male) from Daming Mountain, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.     

Two new species of the stonefly genus Amphinemura (Insecta,Plecoptera, Nemouridae) from China

Two new species of the genus Amphinemura Ris from China are described and illustrated, i.e. A. annulata Du & Ji, sp. n. from Zhejiang, Shanxi, Shaanxi and Guizhou Province, and A. lingulata Du & Wang, sp. n. from Shaanxi and Sichuan Province. A. annulata is similar to A. tricintusidens Wang & Zhu in having an apical cavity of the epiproct, but the epiproct ventral sclerite and the median paraproct lobe of the two species are different. A. lingulata is related to A. didyma Zhu & Yang in having the similar epiproct, but they differ mostly in paraproct median and outer lobes.     

A new species of Megischus Brullé (Hymenoptera, Stephanidae) from China, with a key to the Chinese species

A new species of Megischus Brullé from China, Megischus aplicatussp. n.,is described and illustrated. A key to the Chinese species of Megischus is added. The holotype is deposited in the Parasitic Hymenoptera Collection of Zhejiang University, Hangzhou.     

An update to the taxonomy of the genus Gastroserica Brenske (Coleoptera,Scarabaeidae, Sericini)

Based on the examination of newly collected material and additional specimens housed in Chinese collections, our knowledge of Gastroserica Brenske, 1897, is expanded. Here, seven new species are described, including habitus photographs and illustrations of the male genitalia: Gastroserica haoyui sp. n. (China: Zhejiang Prov.), G. fengduana sp. n. (China: Sichuan Prov.), G. wenzhui sp. n. (China: Guangxi Prov.), G. damingshanica sp. n. (from China: Guangxi Prov.), G. jinxiuensis sp. n. (China: Guangxi Prov.), G. liboensis sp. n. (China: Yunnan Prov.) and G. carolusi sp. n. (Laos). Additionally, we provide a distribution map of the new taxa and new distribution records of the known taxa.     

New Staphylinidae (Coleoptera) records with new collection data from New Brunswick, Canada: Paederinae

We report 17 species of Paederinae new for New Brunswick, Canada. Ten of these species, Lathrobium othioides LeConte, Lathrobium amplipenne Casey, Lathrobium armatum Say, Lathrobium confusum LeConte, Lathrobium debile LeConte, Achenomorphus corticinus (Gravenhorst), Rugilus rufipes Germar, Homaeotarsus bicolor (Gravenhorst), Homaeotharsus cribratus (LeConte), and Homaeotarsus pallipes (Gravenhorst) are newly recorded for the Maritime provinces. This brings the total number of Paederinae recorded from New Brunswick to 36 species. Additional records are presented for the recently reported Lathrobium simile LeConte and Lathrobium washingtoni Casey. Collection and habitat data are presented for all species.     

Description of two new species of Cossidae (Lepidoptera) from China

Two new Cossidaespecies from China's Zhejiang and Sichuan provinces are described. The new species Phragmataecia monikasp. n.and Patoptoformis rimsaitesp. n. superficially resemble related congeners but can be distinguished by differences in wing pattern, genitalia and distribution. Checklists of the genera Phragmataecia and Patoptoformis are presented.     

Discovery of the male of Lobrathium rotundiceps (Koch), and a new species of Lobrathium from Jiangxi,East China (Coleoptera,Staphylinidae, Paederinae)

The male of Lobrathium rotundiceps (Koch, 1939) from Zhejiang and L. luoxiaoense sp. n. from Jiangxi are described and illustrated.     

A new species of Diartiger Sharp (Staphylinidae,Pselaphinae, Clavigeritae) from the Fengyangshan – Baishanzu Nature Reserve,East China

A new clavigerine pselaphine, Diartiger zhejiangensis Yin & Li, sp. n., from the Fengyangshan – Baishanzu Nature Reserve, southern Zhejiang, is described, illustrated, and compared with congeners. The species is hosted by ants in the genus Lasius. The key to Diartiger species from China is modified to accommodate the new species.     

Three new species of the myrmecophilous genus Doryloxenus from China (Coleoptera,Staphylinidae, Aleocharinae)

Three new species of the pygostenine genus Doryloxenus Wasmann, viz., Doryloxenus aenictophilus sp. n. (from Zhejiang), Doryloxenus tangliangi sp. n. (from Zhejiang), and Doryloxenus songzhigaoi sp. n. (from Yunnan), are described, illustrated and distinguished from the Asian congeners. An identification key to the Chinese species is given.
