We report the effects of time of storage, temperature, and supplementation with sodium selenite- and selenium-enriched yeast on the quality of quail eggs. For this study, 90 10-week-old female Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) with similar body size were caged individually and randomly divided into five groups of 18 quails each. One group was fed a normal diet and served as control. A second group was supplemented with 0.2 mg/kg sodium selenite (In-Se) and three groups supplemented with 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mg/kg of a commercially available selenium-enriched yeast (O-Se1, O-Se2, and O-Se3, respectively). The eggs were collected at third and fourth weeks of the experiment and were stored at 4°C and 20°C for 0, 15, 30, and 45 days. Extension of the storage time to 45 days at 20°C resulted in significant deterioration of egg quality. The albumen Haugh unit (HU), pH, albumen index, yolk index, and egg weight loss were the most important parameters influenced by the nature of the selenium sources, storage time, and temperature. Storage time and temperature were also significant for egg weight loss, HU, and albumen and yolk indexes. The results show that supplementation with selenium yeast significantly affected shell weight, shell thickness, HU, albumen index, yolk index, and pH. The HU decreased with increased storage time and temperature. Higher levels of Se-yeast administration resulted in greater HU compared to the selenite and control groups.  相似文献

Synopsis Seasonal changes in hypoosmoregulatory ability were compared in landlocked and anadromous strains of Arctic charr and Atlantic salmon. Seawater adaptability was assessed using periodic 48 h seawater challenge tests with 25. seawater. The landlocked strains of Arctic charr, two from northern Sweden and one from Southern Norway, displayed similar seasonal changes in seawater adaptability as the anadromous strain. Seawater tolerance increased during spring and remained high until the end of July — early August after which it declined. The two strains of Atlantic salmon displayed different seasonal patterns in hypoosmoregulatory ability. The anadromous strain showed a pronounced seasonal pattern with maximal seawater adaptability in early June. In contrast, seawater tolerance in the landlocked strain improved steadily during spring and remained high until late autumn. During the period of enhanced seawater tolerance, hypoosmoregulatory ability increased significantly with body size in both Arctic charr and anadromous Atlantic salmon. The minimum size at which fish were able to regulate plasma sodium following seawater transfer at a level comparable to freshwater levels (<170 mmol I–1) differed significantly between anadromous Atlantic salmon (ca. 14 cm) and Arctic charr (ca. 22 cm). The results show that seasonal changes in hypoosmoregulatory ability are present in both Atlantic salmon and Arctic charr, and that these physiological traits are retained in the corresponding landlocked strains. However, the seasonal pattern of seawater adaptability as well as the minimum size at which seawater tolerance occurs differs between the two species.  相似文献

Migrating Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) parr (118 ± 34.4 mm) were caught close to the rivermouth of the Dieset river on Spitsbergen (79°10′N), Svalbard. When subjected to a seawater tolerance test (34 ppt at 6°C) their blood plasma osmolality and sodium and magnesium concentrations increased significantly. After 90 h of exposure, average plasma osmolality was 410 (±54.1) mOsmol. Corresponding sodium and magnesium concentrations were 207 (±35.9) mmol l−1 and 2.7 (±1.36) mmol l−1, respectively. Survival at this time was only 12.5%. When smaller fish (96 ± 26.6 mm) were exposed to seawater, mortality was 100% within 72 h. We conclude that small-sized Svalbard charr may survive only short periods in seawater. Therefore, the lack of adequate hypoosmoregulatory capacity limits their access to marine food resources. Summary The efflux of sodium ions from the loggerhead turtle,Caretta caretta, was investigated when animals were acclimated to seawater, freshwater, and during the acclimation period after transfer from seawater to freshwater. The rate of sodium loss in animals acclimated to seawater was found to be 3 M Na · g–1 · hr–1. Cannulation of the cloaca showed that only 5% of the gross efflux of sodium was via the cloaca and it was calculated that 60% of the gross efflux was via nasal gland secretion and 35 % via integumentary diffusional loss. Cannulation experiments indicated that a significant amount of sodium may enter the body via the cloaca. Transfer of animals from seawater to freshwater resulted in a decline of sodium efflux by 90–99 % within 6 hr, and a further decline to only approximately 0 01 M Na · g–1· hr–1 after 1–2 days in freshwater. Cannulation experiments of individuals acclimated to freshwater indicated that the role of the cloaca in sodium loss in freshwater was minimal. It was calculated that sodium loss in freshwater is so small that survival in freshwater for at least 20 days is possible without active extraction of sodium from the medium. The reproductive phenology of Chondrus ocellatus and the effects of temperature and light on its growth were examined in Cheongsapo near Busan, Korea, from September 1994 to August 1995. The vegetative plants dominated over the year, with a peak occurrence in January. Gameto- and tetrasporophytes were most abundant in November and August. All vegetative and reproductive plants had a peak both in length and weight in October, when seawater temperature was highest (24°C). In laboratory culture, the maximum relative growth rate (RGR) of 2.94% day−1 was obtained at 20°C and 100 μmol photons m−2 s−1, whereas the lowest value was recorded at 25°C and 100 μmol photons m−2 s−1 in a 12: 12 h LD photoperiod regime. Among the three photoperiod regimes (8:16 h, 12:12 h, 16:8 h LD) tested, there was evidence of a higher RGR in the 12:12 h LD cycle. This result suggests that the growth and reproduction of C. ocellatus are correlated with the seawater temperature based on laboratory culture and field observations.  相似文献

The experiment was conducted to study the effects of different selenium source on selenium distribution, loin quality and antioxidant status in finishing pigs. A total of 108 castrates (Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire) at average body weight (BW) of 60 kg were allotted to three treatments, each of which was replicated three times with 12 pigs per replicate (four per pen). The control groups received the basal diet containing 0.045 mg Se/kg. A 0.3 mg Se/kg in forms of sodium selenite or selenomethionine was added to the basal diet for the experimental groups. The total test period was 40 d. Results showed that selenomethionine-treatment increased the Hunter a (redness) value of meat color during 45 min, 8 and 16 h measurement period (P<0.05) and decreased the drip loss of loin muscle during 8 and 16 h measurement period (P<0.05), while sodium selenite-treatment only elevated the Hunter a value of meat color during 0.75 h measurement period (P<0.05) and had no significant effects on drip loss of loin muscle tissues. Both selenomethionine and sodium selenite-treatment increased the Se content in serum, muscle, liver, pancreas and kidney tissue (P<0.05), the level was substantially higher in muscle, liver and pancreas (P<0.05) in the selenomethionine treated group. In addition, both selenomethionine and sodium selenite-treatment increased glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity (P<0.05) and decreased the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the liver and muscle (P<0.05) when compared with control group, but the level of magnitude was higher when selenomethionine was fed. The present study suggests that compared with sodium selenite, selenomethionine is more effective in depositing Se in tissues, enhances the antioxidant status, thus decreasing the volume of drip loss and stabilizing the meat color.  相似文献

The effect of early (embryonic and larval) thermal history on subsequent (juvenile) white muscle hyperplasia was studied in a teleost fish, the European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.). D. labrax, incubated and reared at constant temperatures of 13°C, 15°C or 20°C from the embryonic stage of half epiboly up to 18–19 mm in total length, were transferred to ambient seawater temperature and reared for the subsequent 14 months on commercial feed. The somatic growth of juveniles was linked to annual variations of ambient seawater temperature and inversely related to early rearing temperature, so that, after 14 months, the juveniles originally reared at low temperatures had compensated for the growth retardation experienced during early life. The white muscle growth process of juveniles was quantified after two periods of growth opportunity at ambient seawater temperature (100 and 400 days post-transfer) as well as, in order to follow total-length-dependent effects of early temperature and to discriminate total-length-independent effects of early temperature, on juveniles from the three batches sampled at six successive equivalent total lengths (31–33, 84–88, 141–145, 166–172, 196–206 and 211–220 mm). Our data demonstrate the existence of a seasonal recruitment of new white muscle fibres when seawater temperature increases and of a shrinkage of the largest white muscle fibres during the winter months. The seasonal recruitment of new white muscle fibres occurring in juveniles is linked to their early rearing temperature. Juveniles originating from low temperatures have a higher and longer capacity to recruit new white muscle fibres when seawater temperature increases, supporting their better somatic growth. This finding is discussed in relation to the early (embryonic and larval) myogenic processes of the three populations and is related to their sex ratio. The effect of incubation and rearing temperature on muscle development and swimming endurance under a high-intensity swimming test was investigated in juvenile Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) in a hatchery experiment. After controlling for the effects of fork length (LF) and parental identity, times to fatigue of fish were higher when fish were incubated or reared at warmer temperatures. Significant differences among combinations of pre- and post-emergence temperatures conformed to 15–15°C > 15–9°C > 9–9°C > 7–9°C > 7–7°C in 2011 when swimming tests were conducted at 300 accumulated temperature units post-emergence and 15–9°C > (7–9°C = 7–7°C) in 2012 when swimming tests were conducted at an LF of c. 40 mm. The combination of pre- and post-emergence temperatures also affected the number and size of muscle fibres, with differences among temperature treatments in mean fibre cross-sectional area persisting after controlling for LF and parental effects. Nonetheless, neither fibre number nor fibre size accounted for significant variation in swimming endurance. Thus, thermal carryover effects on swimming endurance were not mediated by thermal imprinting of muscle structure. This is the first study to test how temperature, body size and muscle structure interact to affect swimming endurance during early development in salmon.  相似文献

Serratia marcescens is an enteric bacterium that causes white pox disease in elkhorn coral, Acropora palmata; however, it remains unclear if the pathogenic strain has adapted to seawater or if it requires a host or reservoir for survival. To begin to address this fundamental issue, the persistence of strain PDL100 was compared among seawater and coral mucus microcosms. Median survival time across all conditions ranged from a low of 15 h in natural seawater [with a first‐order decay constant (k) = ?0.173] at 30°C to a maximum of 120 h in glucose‐amended A. palmata mucus (k = ?0.029) at 30°C. Among seawater and mucus microcosms, median survival time was significantly greater within Siderastrea siderea mucus compared with seawater or mucus of Montastraea faveolata or A. palmata (P < 0.0001). In seawater, the addition of phosphate and especially glucose resulted in significant improvements in survival (P < 0.001), while only the addition of glucose resulted in significant improvement in survival in A. palmata mucus (P < 0.0001). Increasing the temperature of seawater to 35°C resulted in a significantly slower decay than that observed at 30°C (P < 0.0001). The results of this study indicate that PDL100 is not well‐adapted to marine water; however, survival can be improved by increasing temperature, the availability of coral mucus from S. siderea and most notably the presence of dissolved organic carbon.  相似文献

This study focused on the acute physiological responses to saltwater exposure in juvenile shortnose sturgeon Acipenser brevirostrum. In two separate laboratory experiments, 2 year‐old A. brevirostrum were exposed to either full (32) or half‐strength (16) seawater for up to 24 h. First, oxygen consumption rates were used to estimate the metabolic costs over 24 h. Secondly, blood and muscle samples were analysed at 6, 12 and 24 h for water loss, various measures of osmoregulatory status (plasma osmolality and ions) and other standard haematological variables. Juveniles exposed to full‐strength seawater showed significant decreases in oxygen consumption rates during the 24 h exposure. Furthermore, seawater‐exposed fish had significantly increased plasma osmolality, ions (Na+ and Cl?) and a 17% decrease in total wet mass over the 24 h exposure period. To a lesser extent, increases in osmolality, ions and mass loss were observed in fish exposed to half‐strength seawater but no changes to oxygen consumption. Cortisol was also significantly increased in fish exposed to full‐strength seawater. While plasma protein was elevated following 24 h in full‐strength seawater, haemoglobin, haematocrit and plasma glucose levels did not change with increased salinity. These results imply an inability of juvenile A. brevirostrum to regulate water and ions in full‐strength seawater within 24 h. Nonetheless, no mortality occurred in any exposure, suggesting that juvenile A. brevirostrum can tolerate short periods in saline environments.  相似文献

Objective:

Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders (NHs/PIs) have a high obesity prevalence compared to other ethnic groups. We examined socio‐demographic, behavioral, and biological factors related to ≥3% weight loss in 100 overweight/obese NHs/PIs who completed a lifestyle intervention.

Design and Methods:

Data were from 56 Native Hawaiians, 22 Chuukese, and 22 Other Pacific Islanders who participated in a randomized controlled trial of the Partnership for Improving Lifestyle Intervention (PILI) 'Ohana Project. All completed a 3‐month weight loss program (WLP) to initiate weight loss and were then randomized into either a 6‐month family/community focused WLP called the PILI Lifestyle Program (PLP; n = 49) or a standard behavior WLP (SBP; n = 51). We collected baseline, 3‐ and 9‐month follow‐up data on socio‐demographics, weight (kg), a 6‐min. walk test, dietary fat, exercise frequency, and blood pressure.

Results and Conclusion:

Based on ANCOVA or logistic fit, ethnicity, sex, initial weight loss, fat in diet at baseline, change in systolic blood pressure, and intervention type were significantly associated (P ≤ .05) with ≥3% weight loss at 9‐month follow‐up. A logistic regression model indicated that Chuukese (OR = 6.04; CI = 1.14–32.17) and participants who had more weight loss in the first 3‐months (OR = 1.47; CI = 1.22–1.86) and who were in the PLP (OR = 4.50; CI = 1.50–15.14) were more likely to achieve ≥3% weight loss [model; χ2 (7, N = 100) = 45.50, P < .0001]. The same lifestyle intervention does not benefit all NHs/PIs equally, possibly due to differences in acculturation status and social support. The findings also point to the importance of initial weight loss to sustain motivation toward long‐term weight loss maintenance.  相似文献

Cryopreservation of spermatozoa from endangered species is a valuable tool for genetic management. Previous studies showed the feasibility of cryopreservation of spermatozoa from various endangered gazelles but have also revealed difficulties with available protocols for semen freezing in Cuvier's gazelle (Gazella cuvieri). Experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of (a) 5% or 20% egg yolk or 4% or 6% glycerol, and (b) addition of sugars (glucose, fructose, lactose and raffinose) on cryopreservation using a Tes-Tris-based diluent (TEST). A diluent containing 13.5% raffinose, 5% or 20% egg yolk, and 6% glycerol (REYG) was also evaluated. Semen was obtained by electroejaculation from 22 G. cuvieri males. Diluted samples were loaded into 0.25 ml straws, cooled to 5 °C over 1.5 h (−0.16 °C/min), equilibrated at that temperature for 2 h, frozen in nitrogen vapours for 10 min and plunged into liquid nitrogen. Subsamples were assessed for motility and acrosome integrity upon collection, after refrigeration–equilibration, after freezing and thawing, and 2 h after thawing. Use of TEST with 20% egg yolk or with 4% glycerol led to worse motility preservation, whereas TEST with 5% egg yolk and 6% glycerol led to better results. Addition of fructose, lactose or raffinose to TEST resulted in similar or worse preservation of motility than inclusion of glucose. On the other hand, use of a raffinose-based medium with 20% egg yolk and 6% glycerol (REYG) afforded better preservation of motility than use of TEST. With REYG, 20% egg yolk was better than 5% egg yolk for motility preservation. Differences were noted between males in their responses to cryopreservation when using different egg yolk or glycerol concentrations. Moreover, spermatozoa from most males exhibited better cryopreservation with REYG although some were better cryopreserved in TEST. The raffinose-based diluent thus represents an improvement over previous results but more work is needed to better characterize cryopreservation conditions for future routine banking of Cuvier's gazelle spermatozoa.  相似文献

The study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary maternal selenomethionine or sodium selenite supplementation on performance and selenium status of broiler breeders and their next generation. Two hundred and forty 39-week-old Lingnan yellow broiler breeders were allocated randomly into two treatments, each of which included three replicates of 40 birds. Pretreatment period was 2 weeks, and the experiment lasted 8 weeks. The groups were fed the same basal diet supplemented with 0.30 mg selenium/kg of sodium selenite or selenomethionine. After incubation, 180 chicks from the same parental treatment group were randomly divided into three replicates, with 60 birds per replicate. All the offspring were fed the same diet containing 0.04 mg selenium/kg, and the experiment also lasted 8 weeks. Birth rate was greater (p < 0.05) in hens fed with selenomethionine than that in hens fed with sodium selenite. The selenium concentration in serum, liver, kidney, and breast muscle of broiler breeders, selenium deposition in the yolk, and albumen and tissues' (liver, kidney, breast muscle) selenium concentrations of 1-day-old chicks were significantly (p < 0.01) increased by maternal selenomethionine supplementation compared with maternal sodium selenite supplementation. The antioxidant status of 1-day-old chicks was greatly improved by maternal selenomethionine intake in comparison with maternal sodium selenite intake and was evidenced by the increased glutathione peroxidase activity in breast muscle (p < 0.05), superoxide dismutase activity in breast muscle and kidney (p < 0.05), glutathione concentration in kidney (p < 0.01), total antioxidant capability in breast muscle and liver (p < 0.05), and decreased malondialdehyde concentration in liver and pancreas (p < 0.05) of 1-day-old chicks. Feed utilization was better (p < 0.05), and mortality was lower (p < 0.05) in the progeny from hens fed with selenomethionine throughout the 8-week growing period compared with those from hens fed with sodium selenite. In summary, we concluded that maternal selenomethionine supplementation increased birth rate and Se deposition in serum and tissues of broiler breeders as well as in egg yolk and egg albumen more than maternal sodium selenite supplementation. Furthermore, maternal selenomethionine intake was also superior to maternal sodium selenite intake in improving the tissues Se deposition and antioxidant status of 1-day-old chicks and increasing the performance of the progeny during 8 weeks of post-hatch life.  相似文献

A metallothionein (MT) gene was isolated for the first time from Javanese medaka, Oryzias javanicus, which shows high adaptability from freshwater to seawater. The full-length cDNA of MT from O. javanicus (OjaMT) comprises 349 bp, excluding the poly(A)+ stretch, and codes for a total of 60 amino acids. The positions of cysteine residues are highly conserved. The pattern of OjaMT expression induced by six heavy metals was analyzed via real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The level of hepatic OjaMT mRNA was increased in a dose-dependent manner by Ag, Cd, Cu, and Zn after 24 h of exposure. However, after Cr and Ni exposure, a significant decrease in OjaMT levels was observed. Cadmium-induced OjaMT expression was detectable in fishes as young as 3 months. After Cd exposure, OjaMT induction was prominent in intestine and liver and moderate in muscle and gill. OjaMT mRNA levels could represent a good biomarker for monitoring heavy metals in seawater.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to test the hypothesis that dietary arginine supplementation may improve meat quality of finishing pigs. Beginning at ~60 kg body weight, pigs were fed a corn- and soybean meal-based diet supplemented with 0, 0.5 or 1% l-arginine until they reached a body weight of ~110 kg. On the last day of the experiment, pigs were food-deprived for 16 h before blood samples were obtained for analysis of amino acids, insulin, and other metabolites. Immediately thereafter, pigs were slaughtered for determination of carcass composition, muscle biochemical parameters, and meat quality. The result showed that arginine did not affect pig growth performance or carcass traits. However, 1% arginine decreased drip loss of pork muscle at 48 h postmortem, while increasing intramuscular fat content (P < 0.05). Supplementing 0.5 or 1% arginine to the diet increased arginine concentration and decreased cortisol level in serum, while enhancing antioxidative capacity and glutathione peroxidase activity in serum (P < 0.05). Additionally, 1% arginine increased antioxidative capacity in skeletal muscle (P < 0.05). Furthermore, 0.5 or 1% arginine decreased the cortisol receptor mRNA level in muscle (P < 0.05). Collectively, these results indicate that supplemental arginine improved meat quality and attenuated oxidative stress of finishing pigs.  相似文献

When pharate adults of the flesh fly Sarcophaga crassipalpis are exposed to 40°C for 4 h they become more tolerant of high temperatures that are normally lethal (thermotolerance). In contrast, a 1-h exposure to 45°C decreases tolerance to a subsequent high temperature challenge (thermosensitivity). While control flies experience little mortality when held at 35°C for 24–48 h the thermosensitized flies die when exposed to 35°C. Sensitivity to a second thermal challenge slowly decays over a 72-h period. The acquisition of thermotolerance prevents the development of thermosensitivity. Brains from thermosensitized flies cultured at 43°C express the 72-kDa heat-shock protein and normal protein synthesis is inhibited. Summary Sodium balance in the green turtle,Chelonia mydas, has been investigated in both seawater and freshwater. In seawater the unidirectional Na efflux is 131 M · 100 g–1 · h–1, over 90% of which is via the head region and less than 5% each is via the cloaca and the integument. After 17 days in freshwater the efflux of Na has declined by 97% and the majority is via the cloaca. The integumental efflux in freshwater is less than that in seawater indicating that a change in skin permeability, trans-skin electrical potential or pattern of blood flow has taken place. Although there are indications that Na is actively extracted from freshwater by the green turtle, this species faces a net loss of Na of the medium and the blood Na concentration falls significantly. When transferred from seawater to freshwater the turtle's orbital salt gland is turned off within 25 h after transfer. The salt gland does not become functional until 400 h after transfer from freshwater to seawater.  相似文献

Maternal effects are typically thought to enhance rather than reduce offspring performance, but asynchronous hatching (ASH) in birds typically produces a size hierarchy within a clutch that frequently reduces the growth and survival of nestlings from eggs that hatch later. Given that yolk steroids can significantly affect offspring phenotype and that in many species the levels of yolk steroids have been found to increase with laying order, the maternal transfer of steroids to egg yolk has been proposed as a mechanism for females to offset the deleterious effects of ASH. To test this hypothesis, we determined whether yolk steroids varied with laying order or clutch size in Common Grackles (Quiscalus quiscula). Because ASH varies with clutch size (hatching span averages 48 h in five-egg clutches, 24 h in four-egg clutches) and regularly results in the starvation of later hatched nestlings, we predicted: (1) testosterone and 17?-estradiol levels should increase with laying order in both clutch sizes to mitigate the negative effects of ASH on last-hatched nestlings, and (2) the increase should be greater in five-egg clutches due to more pronounced hatching asynchrony. Using a competitive-binding steroid radioimmunoassay, we found no systematic variation in either testosterone or estradiol levels relative to laying order or clutch size. In the absence of evidence that yolk steroids interact adaptively with ASH, research must look elsewhere for potential benefits that might compensate for the costs these steroids impose on nestlings.  相似文献

This study reassesses the proposal that cellular conditions of low temperature and relative acidosis during hibernation contribute to a suppression of phosphofructokinase (PFK) activity which, in turn, contributes to glycolytic rate suppression during torpor. To test the proposal that a dilution effect during in vitro assay of PFK was the main reason for activity loss (tetramer dissociation) at lower pH values, the influence of the macromolecular crowding agent, polyethylene glycol 8000 (PEG), on purified skeletal muscle PFK from Spermophilus lateralis was evaluated at different pH values (6.5, 7.2 and 7.5) and assay temperatures (5, 25 and 37°C). A 78 ± 2.5% loss of PFK activity during 1 h incubation at 5°C and pH 6.5 was virtually eliminated when 10% PEG was present (only 7.0 ± 1.5% activity lost). The presence of PEG also largely reversed PFK inactivation at pH 6.5 at warmer assay temperatures and reversed inhibitory effects by high urea (50 or 400 mM). Analysis of pH curves at 5°C also indicated that ~ 70% of activity would remain at intracellular pH values in hibernator muscle. Objective: To compare weight loss in blacks and whites in the Trial of Nonpharmacologic Interventions in the Elderly (TONE). Research Methods and Procedures: TONE enrolled 421 overweight white and 164 overweight black adults, 60 to 79 years old, with blood pressure well-controlled on a single, antihypertensive drug. Drug therapy withdrawal was attempted 3 months after randomization to counseling for weight loss, sodium reduction, both weight loss and sodium reduction, or to usual care, with follow-up for 15 to 36 months after enrollment. Statistical procedures included repeated measures analysis of covariance and logistic and proportional hazards regression. Results: In the weight-loss condition, net weight change (in kilograms) was −2.7 in blacks and −5.9 in whites (p < 0.001; ethnic difference, p = 0.0002) at 6 months and −2.0 (p < 0.05) in blacks and −4.9 (p < 0.001) in whites at the end of follow-up (ethnic difference, p = 0.007). In weight/sodium, net weight change was −2.1 (p < 0.01) in blacks and −2.8 (p < 0.001) in whites at 6 months, and −1.9 in blacks and −1.7 in whites at the end of follow-up (p < 0.05; ethnic difference, p > 0.5). Exploratory analyses suggested a more favorable pattern of weight change in blacks than in whites from 6 months onward. There was no ethnic difference in blood pressure outcomes. Discussion: Whites lost more weight than blacks without, but not with, a concurrent focus on sodium reduction.  相似文献
