Abstract— The genus Pegolettia (Compositae, Inuleae) from Africa, Arabia, and the Middle East is revised. The nine recognized species, viz. P. lanceolata Harv., P. baccaridifolia Less., P. gariepina A. Anderb., P. oxyodonta DC., P. retrofracta (Thunb.) Kies, P. tenuifolia Bolus, P. plumosa M. D. Hend., P. pinnatilobata (Klatt) O. Hoffm. ex Dinter, and P. senegalensis Cass., are treated cladistically, and a cladogram is presented. The species are illustrated, and their distributions mapped. Hypotheses on the mode of speciation and the biogeography of the group including a model of area relationships in southern Africa are presented.

The phylogeny of the genus Moehringia (Caryophyllaceae) is investigated by means of analyzing nuclear (ITS) and chloroplast (matK) sequence data in combination with morphological characters. Parsimony and Bayesian methods yield consistent results, and a common phylogenetic signal is shared by the nuclear and chloroplast data. Morphological characters are affected by a high level of homoplasy, but they provide valuable information when analyzed in combination with the molecular data. Moehringia is paraphyletic to Arenaria with the Iberian taxa belonging to Moehringia sect. Pseudomoehringia McNeill more closely related to Arenaria. This cladistic evidence led us to reinterpret the homology of the key character used in most, if not all, floras, to separate Moehringia from Arenaria, i.e., the seed strophiole. Thorough anatomical studies were carried out to elucidate the ontogeny of the strophiole, which proved different in Moehringia s. str. and the Iberian taxa. Within Moehringia s. str., two sister clades are recognized (i.e., Moehringia sect. Moehringia and M. sect. Latifoliae much as recognized by McNeill, whereas representatives of M. sect. Diversifoliae are assigned to either groups), and biogeographical events related to the Würm glaciation are considered to play a fundamental role in the evolution and present distribution of the genus. The variation of the strophiole is regarded as adaptability to ecological conditions and dispersal agents. We also propose two new combinations and two replacement names: Arenaria glochidisperma (J.M. Mont.) Fior et P.O. Karis, comb. nov., Arenaria tejedensis (Willk.) Fior et P.O. Karis, comb. nov., Arenaria suffruticosa Fior et P.O. Karis, nom. nov. for Moehringia intricata Willk., and Arenaria funiculata Fior et P.O. Karis, nom. nov. for Moehringia fontqueri Pau. © The Willi Hennig Society 2007.

The central Asian endemic Xylanthemum tianschanicum (Krasch.) Muradyan (Compositae, Anthemideae) is the only species of Xylanthemum Tzvelev with radiate capitula. While the species was formerly found to be closely related to members of the subtribe Handeliinae, other representatives of the genus were considered to be similar to members of Tanacetum. In order to assess its phylogenetic relationships and taxonomic classification, a molecular analysis based on ITS sequences of 13 representatives of the subtribe Handeliinae and 17 species of three other subtribes (Anthemidinae, Artemisiinae and Matricariinae) was performed. Due to the close relationship of the X. tianschanicum to the type species of Richteria (Richteria pyrethroides) in a well supported clade (PP = 1, BS = 100%), which is supported by morphological features concerning the indumentum, capitulum morphology, and pappus structure, the combination Richteria tianschanica (Krasch.) Sonboli & Oberpr. is proposed based on the basionym Pyrethrum tianschanicum Krasch.

Anderberg, A. A. & Karis, P. O. 1995. Psednotrichia , a genus of the tribe Senecioneae hitherto misplaced in the Astereae (Asteraceae). — Nord. J. Bot. 15: 375–379. Copenhagen. ISSN 0107–055X.
The tribal position for the little known genus Psednorrichia , is established. This monotypic genus, hitherto placed in the tribe Astereae, is a congener of Xyridopsis of the tribe Senecioneae (Asteraceae). The two species of Xyridopsis are here transferred to Psednotrichia and the new combinations P. xyridopsis and P. newtonii are made. A brief discussion of the morphology of the genus, and its systematic position within the tribe Senecioneae is provided.

A new genus and new species of the family Cletopsyllidae Huys & Willems, 1989 from deep-sea sediment in the Gulf of Mexico, are reported and fully described and illustrated. The new genus Pentacletopsyllus (type species: P. montagni sp. n.) can be distinguished from the four known genera of the family by antennule segmentation, length ratio of first and second endopodal segments of P1, and armature pattern on P5 exopod. It also differs from its sister genera by the rostrum being bifid at the tip, third segment of the female antennule having a smooth posterior margin, the baseoendopod of P5 with biarticulate outer setophore bearing basal seta, and female caudal rami without lobate expansion. A revised key to species of the family Cletopsyllidae Huys & Willems, 1989 is provided.

Trichostomum obtusifolium P. Beauv. is lectotypified and the type material is briefly described and illustrated. It is shown that the species correctly belongs within the genus Anomodon Hook. & Tayl., not Racomitrium Brid., and it is synonymous with A. minor (Hedw.) Lindb. A brief nomenclatural note on A. minor is presented and its homotypic synonyms are listed.
