Variation in Cd accumulation between Nicotiana species but not varieties has been observed in seedlings grown in solution culture with moderate-to-low levels of Cd. Nicotiana tabacum has been characterized as a leaf and root accumulator while Nicotiana rustica is shown to be primarily a root accumulator, having about half the leaf Cd per gram dry weight of N. tabacum. This phenotype is retained in the mature N. rustica plant. To characterize these two species which differ in their modes of Cd accumulation, tissue Cd distribution, partitioning of metal in soluble and insoluble fractions and the contribution of soluble Cd-binding proteins (peptides) to total plant Cd was assessed using mature solution cultured plants. Metal accumulation was highest in the most mature leaves and in young roots. The preponderance of young roots in N. rustica may, in part, account for low leaf/high root Cd accumulation in this species. While Cd-binding peptides appear to be a principal form of Cd in leaves and roots of seedlings and these also occur in mature leaves, Cd is equally distributed between soluble (about 80% as Cd-binding peptide) and uncharacterized insoluble forms in mature plant roots.  相似文献

The intercellular distribution of assimilatory sulfate reduction enzymes between mesophyll and bundle sheath cells was analyzed in maize (Zea mays L.) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) leaves. In maize, a C4 plant, 96 to 100% of adenosine 5′-phosphosulfate sulfotransferase and 92 to 100% of ATP sulfurylase activity (EC 2.7.7.4) was detected in the bundle sheath cells. Sulfite reductase (EC 1.8.7.1) and O-acetyl-l-serine sulfhydrylase (EC 4.2.99.8) were found in both bundle sheath and mesophyll cell types. In wheat, a C3 species, ATP sulfurylase and adenosine 5′-phosphosulfate sulfotransferase were found at equivalent activities in both mesophyll and bundle sheath cells. Leaves of etiolated maize plants contained appreciable ATP sulfurylase activity but only trace adenosine 5′-phosphosulfate sulfotransferase activity. Both enzyme activities increased in the bundle sheath cells during greening but remained at negligible levels in mesophyll cells. In leaves of maize grown without addition of a sulfur source for 12 d, the specific activity of adenosine 5′-phosphosulfate sulfotransferase and ATP sulfurylase in the bundle sheath cells was higher than in the controls. In the mesophyll cells, however, both enzyme activities remained undetectable. The intercellular distribution of enzymes would indicate that the first two steps of sulfur assimilation are restricted to the bundle sheath cells of C4 plants, and this restriction is independent of ontogeny and the sulfur nutritional status of the plants.  相似文献

The effects of Cd, in combination with salicylic acid (SA) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP), on ryegrass seedlings were studied. Exposure of plants to 0.1 mM CdCl2 for 2 weeks resulted in toxicity symptoms such as chlorosis and necrotic spots on leaves. The addition of 0.2 mM SA or 0.1 mM SNP slightly alleviated the toxic effects of Cd. After application of both SA and SNP, these symptoms significantly decreased. Treatment with Cd resulted in a decrease of dry weight of roots and shoots, chlorophyll content, net photosynthetic rate (P n), transpiration rate (T r), and the uptake and translocation of mineral elements. In Cd-treated plants, levels of lipoxygenase activity and malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and proline contents significantly increased, whereas the activities of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase, guaiacol peroxidase, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidase, decreased in both roots and shoots. The results indicated that Cd caused physiological stresses in ryegrass plants. The Cd-stressed plants exposed to SA or SNP, especially to SA + SNP, exhibited improved growth compared with Cd-stressed plants. Application of SA or SNP, especially the combination SA + SNP, considerably reduced root-to-shoot translocation of Cd and increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes in both roots and shoots of Cd-stressed plants. The interaction of SA and SNP increased chlorophyll content, P n and T r in leaves, and the uptake and translocation of mineral elements, and decreased lipid peroxidation and H2O2 and proline accumulation in roots and shoots. These results suggest that SA or SNP, and, in particular, their combination counteracted the negative effects of Cd on ryegrass plants.  相似文献

The biology and host specificity of the aquatic grasshopper,Paulinia acuminata (De Geer) were studied in quarantine in Australia. Adults and nymphs fed on the leaves of salvinia (Salvinia molesta), water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) and azolla (Azolla pinnata). Fifty-three plant species representing 38 families were exposed to adults and nymphs ofP. acuminata. Adult feeding occurred on 17 plants but nymphs failed to feed on 9 of these species in the presence ofS. molesta. In starvation trials, 14 plants (excludingS. molesta, P. stratiotes andA. pinnata) were attacked by adults, of which only 5 were attacked by nymphs. Heavy feeding occurred on strawberry (Fragaria xananassa) but no oviposition occurred even when the leaves were held in contact with the water surface. The life cycle ofP. acuminata was completed only onS. molesta, P. stratiotes andA. pinnata. Eggs deposited on water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) failed to hatch. Laboratory evaluation was supplemented with observations on the distribution and abundance ofP. acuminata on the Zambezi River system, Zimbabwe, during October 1984.  相似文献

The role of salicylic acid (SA) in alleviating cadmium (Cd) toxicity was investigated in a hydroponic cultivation system. Short-term exposure of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) plants to 20 μM Cd inhibited biomass production and intensively increased accumulation of Cd in both roots and leaves. At leaf level, Cd significantly decreased mineral ions, chlorophyll and carotenoids concentrations. Concomitantly, Cd enhanced electrolyte leakage, H2O2 content and lipid peroxidation as indicated by malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulation. SA pretreatment decreased the uptake and the transport of Cd, alleviated the Cd-induced inhibition of nutrient absorption and led to a significant increase of chlorophyll and carotenoid content. SA application alleviated the oxidative damages as evidenced by the lowered H2O2 and MDA content. SA particularly induced an increase in both CAT and APX activities accompanied by a significant reduction in SOD and POD activities. As important antioxidants, ascorbate and glutathione contents in bean leaves exposed to cadmium were significantly decreased by SA treatment. These results reveal the potentiating effect of salicylic acid in regulating cadmium induced oxidative stress in bean plants.  相似文献

ATP sulfurylase activity varied greatly among different leaves on the soybean plant [Glycine max (L.) Meer.], and high levels of activity did not appear in the leaves until the seedlings were about 3 weeks old. In general, leaves from the top of the plant had a higher activity than leaves from the bottom of the plant. A much greater activity was found in soybean leaves than in soybean roots. The absence of sulfate in the nutrient solution resulted in higher enzyme activity in leaves from young plants and in lower activity in leaves from older plants. Over the growing season, however, ATP sulfurylase activity appeared to be related to sulfur content of the leaf. Several other plant species also had measurable levels of ATP sulfurylase.  相似文献

Interactive effects of two heavy metal pollutants Cd and Pb in the growth medium were examined on their uptake, production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), induction of oxidative stress and antioxidative defence responses in Indica rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings. When rice seedlings in sand culture were exposed to 150 μM Cd (NO3)2 or 600 μM Pb (CH3COO)2 individually or in combination for 8–16 days, a significant reduction in root/shoot length, fresh weight, relative water content, photosynthetic pigments and increased production of ROS (O2˙? and H2O2) was observed. Both Cd and Pb were readily taken up by rice roots and localisation of absorbed metals was greater in roots than in shoots. When present together in the growth medium, uptake of both the metals Cd and Pb declined by 25–40 %. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) imaging of leaf stomata revealed that Pb caused more distortion in the shape of guard cells than Cd. Dithizone staining of roots showed localisation of absorbed Cd on root hairs and epidermal cells. Both Cd and Pb caused increased lipid peroxidation, protein carbonylation, decline in protein thiol and increase in non-protein thiol. The level of reduced forms of non-enzymic antioxidants glutathione (GSH) and ascorbate (AsA) and their redox ratios (GSH/AsA) declined, whereas the activities of antioxidative enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) increased in metal treated seedlings compared to controls. In-gel activity staining also revealed increased intensities of SOD and GPX isoforms with metal treatments. Catalase (CAT) activity increased during early days (8 days) of metal exposure and declined by 16 days. Results suggest that oxidative stress is an important component in expression of Cd and Pb toxicities in rice, though uptake of both metals gets reduced considerably when present together in the medium.  相似文献

Hydroponic experiments were carried out using seedlings of the wetland halophyte species Kosteletzkya virginica (L.) Presl. exposed to 10???M Cd or 100???M Zn in the absence or presence of 50?mM NaCl. Interaction between salinity and heavy metals was analysed in relation to plant growth, water status and tissue ion contents (Na, K and Ca). Results showed a strong inhibition effect of Cd on leaf emergence, lateral branch development and leaf expansion. Heavy metals induced a significant decrease in plant dry weight, water content, osmotic potential (?? S) and leaf water potential (?? w). Cadmium and Zn accumulated to higher extent in the roots than in the shoots. Cadmium increased the leaf K concentration while Zn had an opposite effect. Salinity strongly reduced Cd uptake and translocation from roots to shoots: it mitigated the Cd impact on lateral branch emergence but had no effects on plant dry weight and water status. Cadmium drastically reduced Na translocation in salt-treated plants while Zn increased it. It is concluded that complex interactions exist between heavy metals and monovalent cations in salt conditions and that Cd and Zn display contrasting behaviour in this respect. Stress-induced modification of ion content did not fully explain growth inhibition in Kosteletzkya virginica.  相似文献

Cadmium causes the oxidative modification of proteins in pea plants   总被引:23,自引:0,他引:23
In pea (Pisum sativum L.) leaves from plants grown in the presence of 50 µm CdCl2 the oxidative production of carbonyl groups in proteins, the rate of protein degradation and the proteolytic activity were investigated. In leaf extracts the content of carbonyl groups measured by derivatization with 2,4‐dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH), was two‐fold higher in plants treated with Cd than in control plants. The identification of oxidized proteins was carried out by sodium dodecyl sulphate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of proteins derivatized with DNPH and immunochemical detection with an antibody against DNPH. The intensity of the reactive bands was higher in plants exposed to Cd than in controls. By using different antibodies some of the oxidized proteins were identified as Rubisco, glutathione reductase, manganese superoxide dismutase, and catalase. The incubation of leaf crude extracts with increasing H2O2 concentrations showed a progressive enhancement in carbonyl content and the pattern of oxidized proteins was similar to that found in Cd‐treated plants. Oxidized proteins were more efficiently degraded, and the proteolytic activity increased 20% due to the metal treatment. In peroxisomes purified from pea leaves a rise in the carbonyl content similar to that obtained in crude extracts from Cd‐treated plants was observed, but the functionality of the peroxisomal membrane was not apparently affected by Cd. Results obtained demonstrate the participation of both oxidative stress, probably mediated by H2O2, and proteolytic degradation in the mechanism of Cd toxicity in leaves of pea plants, and they appear to be involved in the Cd‐induced senescence previously reported in these plants.  相似文献

Regulation of Glutathione Synthesis by Cadmium in Pisum sativum L   总被引:4,自引:1,他引:3       下载免费PDF全文
In roots and shoots of pea plants (Pisum sativum L.) cultivated with CdCl2 concentrations up to 50 micromolar, growth, the content of total acid soluble thiols, and the activity of glutathione synthetase (EC 6.3.2.3) and of adenosine 5′-phosphosulfate sulfotransferase were measured. In addition, the occurrence of Cd-binding peptides (phytochelatins) and the contents of glutathione and cysteine were determined in roots of plants exposed to 20 micromolar Cd and/or 1 millimolar buthionine sulfoximine, an inhibitor of glutathione synthesis. An appreciable increase in activity of glutathione synthetase at 20 and 50 micromolar Cd and of adenosine 5′-phosphosulfate sulfotransferase at 5 micromolar and higher Cd concentrations was detected in the roots. Most of the additional thiols formed due to Cd treatment were eluted from a gel filtration HPLC column together with Cd, indicating the presence of phytochelatins. In plants treated with buthionine sulfoximine and Cd, no phytochelatins could be detected but the cysteine content increased 21-fold. Additionally, a larger increase in both enzyme activities occurred than with Cd alone. Taken together, our results are consistent with the hypothesis that glutathione is a precursor for phytochelatin synthesis.  相似文献

Lower respiratory costs were hypothesized as providing an additional benefit in C4 plants compared to C3 plants due to less investment in proteins in C4 leaves. Therefore, photosynthesis and dark respiration of mature leaves were compared between a number of C4 and C3 species. Although photosynthetic rates were generally greater in C4 when compared to C3 species, no differences were found in dark respiration rates of individual leaves at either the beginning or after 16 h of the dark period. The effects of nitrogen on photosynthesis and respiration of individual leaves and whole plants were also investigated in two species that occupy similar habitats, Amaranthus retroflexus (C4) and Chenopodium album (C3). For mature leaves of both species, there was no relationship between leaf nitrogen and leaf respiration, with leaves of both species exhibiting a similar rate of decline after 16 h of darkness. In contrast, leaf photosynthesis increased with increasing leaf nitrogen in both species, with the C4 species displaying a greater photosynthetic response to leaf nitrogen. For whole plants of both species grown at different nitrogen levels, there was a clear linear relationship between net CO2 uptake and CO2 efflux in the dark. The dependence of nightly CO2 efflux on CO2 uptake was similar for both species, although the response of CO2 uptake to leaf nitrogen was much steeper in the C4 species, Amaranthus retroflexus. Rates of growth and maintenance respiration by whole plants of both species were similar, with both species displaying higher rates at higher leaf nitrogen. There were no significant differences in leaf or whole plant maintenance respiration between species at any temperature between 18 and 42°C. The data suggest no obvious differences in respiratory costs in C4 and C3 plants.  相似文献

The effect of different cadmium concentrations (6–120 μM) on Hill reaction activity (HRA) of isolated chloroplasts, contents of chlorophylls (Chls) and carotenoids (Cars), and Cd uptake and accumulation in plant organs of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L. cv. Vitasso) and mung bean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] were determined. The Cd stress inhibited photochemical activity of isolated chloroplasts of both species and in both tested developmental stages. On the basis of EC50 values, the mung bean showed a higher sensitivity to Cd treatment than Indian mustard. The higher sensitivity of both species was determined in the earlier than in the older developmental stage. The leaves of Cd-treated plants possessed lower contents of Chls and Cars in both species and the negative effect increased with Cd concentration. A difference between species was also found in Cd uptake and accumulation. In both species, Cd was accumulated more in roots than in shoots, with higher accumulation in Indian mustard than in mung bean.  相似文献

Soil cadmium (Cd) contamination is becoming a matter of great global concern. The identification of plants differentially sensitive to Cd excess is of interest for the selection of genotype adaptive to grow and develop in polluted areas and capable of ameliorating or reducing the negative environmental effects of this toxic metal. The two poplar clones I-214 (Populus × canadensis) and Eridano (Populus deltoides × maximowiczii) are, respectively, tolerant and sensitive to ozone (O3) exposure. Because stress tolerance is mediated by an array of overlapping defence mechanisms, we tested the hypothesis that these two clones differently sensitive to O3 stress factor also exhibit different tolerance to Cd. With this purpose, an outdoor pot experiment was designed to study the responses of I-214 and Eridano to the distribution of different Cd solutions enriched with CdCl2 (0, 50 and 150 μM) for 35 days. Changes in leaf area, biomass allocation and Cd uptake, photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence, leaf concentration of nutrients and pigments, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and nitric oxide (NO) production and thiol compounds were investigated. The two poplar clones showed similar sensitivity to excess Cd in terms of biomass production, photosynthesis activity and Cd accumulation, though physiological and biochemical traits revealed different defence strategies. In particular, Eridano maintained in any Cd treatment the number of its constitutively wider blade leaves, while the number of I-214 leaves (with lower size) was reduced. H2O2 increased 4.5- and 13-fold in I-214 leaves after the lowest (L) and highest (H) Cd treatments, respectively, revealing the induction of oxidative burst. NO, constitutively higher in I-214 than Eridano, progressively increased in both clones with the enhancement of Cd concentration in the substrate. I-214 showed a more elevated antioxidative capacity (GSH/GSSG) and higher photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm) and de-epoxidation degree of xantophylls-cycle (DEPS). The glutathione pool was not affected by Cd treatment in both clones, while non-protein thiols and phytochelatins were reduced at L Cd treatment in I-214. Overall, these two clones presented high adaptability to Cd stress and are both suitable to develop and growth in environments contaminated with this metal, thus being promising for their potential use in phytoremediation programmes.  相似文献

The intracellular compartmentation of ATP sulfurylase and O-acetylserine(thiol)lyase in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) leaves has been investigated by isolation of organelles and fractionation of protoplasts. ATP sulfurylase is located predominantly in the chloroplasts, but is also present in the cytosol. No evidence was found for ATP sulfurylase activity in the mitochondria. Two forms of ATP sulfurylase were separated by anion-exchange chromatography. The more abundant form is present in the chloroplasts, the second is cytosolic. O-Acetylserine(thiol)lyase activity is located primarily in the chloroplasts and cytosol, but is also present in the mitochondria. Three forms of O-acetylserine(thiol)lyase were separated by anion-exchange chromatography, and each was found to be specific to one intracellular compartment. The cytosolic ATP sulfurylase may not be active in vivo due to the unfavorable equilibrium constant of the reaction, and the presence of micromolar concentrations of inorganic pyrophosphate in the cytosol, therefore its role remains unknown. It is suggested that the plant cell may be unable to transport cysteine between the different compartments, so that the cysteine required for protein synthesis must be synthesized in situ, hence the presence of O-acetylserine(thiol)lyase in the three compartments where proteins are synthesized.  相似文献

Soil salinity usually increases bioavailability of Cd on heavy metal polluted soils but its impact on Cd absorption and accumulation by plants remains largely unknown. Plants from the halophyte species Atriplex halimus were therefore exposed for 12 and 14 days to nutrient solution containing 50 μM CdCl2 in the presence of NaCl, KCl or NaNO3 50 mM. Most Cd present in solution remained as Cd–EDTA and salinity had no impact on Cd speciation. Chloride salinity (NaCl and KCl) reduced Cd accumulation in shoots and roots while NaNO3 increased Cd accumulation in leaves. More than 30% of accumulated Cd was found at the leaf surface and accumulated in trichomes but all tested salts decreased the proportion of excreted Cd. Cadmium induced a decrease in the leaf water content. External NaCl and KCl mitigated the deleterious impact of Cd by inducing osmotic adjustment while NaNO3 and synthesis of protecting compounds such as soluble sugars and glycinebetaine. Free polyamines (putrescine, spermidine and spermine) increased in response to Cd, Cd + NaCl and Cd + KCl while only putrescine increased in response to Cd + NaNO3. Proline exhibited maximal concentration in the leaves of Cd + NaCl and Cd + KCl-treated plants and was correlated with osmotic adjustment. Our results suggest that chloride salinity improved the resistance of A. halimus to Cd toxicity both by decreasing the absorption of heavy metal and by improving tissular tolerance through an increase in the synthesis of osmoprotective compounds.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to relate the effects of deficiency and excess of Mn with the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and altered cellular redox environment in mulberry (Morus alba L.) cv. Kanva-2 plants. Mn deficiency symptom appeared as mild interveinal chlorosis in middle leaves. Mn-excess did not produce any specific symptom. Leaf water potential (Ψ) was increased in Mn-deficient and Mn-excess mulberry plants. Mn-deficient leaves contained less Mn, less chloroplastic pigments and high tissue Fe, Zn and Cu concentrations. Starch content was increased with increasing Mn supply. While reducing sugar content increased in Mn-deficient and Mn-excess plants as well, non-reducing sugars remained unaffected in Mn-deficient plants and decreased in Mn-excess plants. Moreover, study of antioxidative responses, oxidative stress (H2O2 and lipid peroxidation) and cellular redox environment [dehydroascorbate (DHA)/ascorbic acid (AsA) ratio] in Mn-stressed mulberry plants was also undertaken. Both hydrogen peroxide and lipid peroxidation were enhanced in the leaves of Mn-deficient plants. Increased H2O2 concentration in Mn-excess leaves did not induce oxidative damage as indicated by no change in lipid peroxidation. The ratio of the redox couple (DHA/AsA) was increased both in Mn-deficient or Mn-excess plants. The activities of superoxide dismutase (EC 1.15.1.1) and catalase (EC 1.11.1.6) increased in Mn-deficient plants. The activity of ascorbate peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.11) increased with increasing Mn supply. The results suggest that deficiency or excess of Mn induces oxidative stress through enhanced ROS generation and disturbed redox couple in mulberry plants.  相似文献

The net uptake, distribution and assimilation of NO 3 were studied in pea plants subjected to either long-term continuous Cd treatment for 10 d (10 or 50 M Cd) or short-term treatment (72 h) with 50 M Cd. In the latter treatment, the effects of transferring the plants to a Cd-free nutrient solution for a 'recovery period' of 96 h were also studied. All these treatments were compared with 'controls', plants which received no Cd. In both experiments, the reduction in fresh weight was associated with a decrease in the content (%) of shoot and root water and in transpiration rate as Cd concentration increased. The concentration of 3 in the shoots and sap decreased dramatically and net 3 uptake was severely inhibited, effects associated with a loss of shoot nitrate reductase (NR) activity. In the short-term Cd treatment, net 3 uptake was almost completely inhibited after 24 h, but recovered after the transfer of plants to a Cd-free nutrient solution. Similarly, a dramatic decrease in the shoot NR activity was observed. The uptake, distribution and tissue partitioning of K was also studied, which is considered to be the major counterion of 3 . Potassium uptake was similarly affected by Cd, as inferred from the ratio 3 /K uptake, which was ca. 10. The ratio K/ 3 tissue content increased in the shoot concomitantly to Cd in both long-term and short-term metal supply. These parameters showed a tendency of K similar to that observed for 3 , although its relative tissue distribution was not affected by Cd.  相似文献

In earlier studies, the assimilation of selenate by plants appeared to be limited by its reduction, a step that is thought to be mediated by ATP sulfurylase. Here, the Arabidopsis APS1 gene, encoding a plastidic ATP sulfurylase, was constitutively overexpressed in Indian mustard (Brassica juncea). Compared with that in untransformed plants, the ATP sulfurylase activity was 2- to 2.5-fold higher in shoots and roots of transgenic seedlings, and 1.5- to 2-fold higher in shoots but not roots of selenate-supplied mature ATP-sulfurylase-overexpressing (APS) plants. The APS plants showed increased selenate reduction: x-ray absorption spectroscopy showed that root and shoot tissues of mature APS plants contained mostly organic Se (possibly selenomethionine), whereas wild-type plants accumulated selenate. The APS plants were not able to reduce selenate when shoots were removed immediately before selenate was supplied. In addition, Se accumulation in APS plants was 2- to 3-fold higher in shoots and 1.5-fold higher in roots compared with wild-type plants, and Se tolerance was higher in both seedlings and mature APS plants. These studies show that ATP sulfurylase not only mediates selenate reduction in plants, but is also rate limiting for selenate uptake and assimilation.  相似文献

The effects of sodium nitroprusside (SNP, a donor of NO) on cadmium (Cd) toxicity in lettuce seedlings were studied. SNP was added into hydroponic systems or sprayed directly on the leaves of plants grown with and without Cd. Excess supply of Cd (100 μM) caused growth inhibition, dramatically increased Cd accumulation in both leaves and roots, and inhibited the absorption of Ca, Mg, Fe and Cu. Excess Cd also decreased activities of superoxide dismutase peroxidase and catalase in leaves and roots, and increased the accumulation of superoxide anion (O 2 ·? ), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA). Root or foliar applications of exogenous NO alleviated Cd-induced growth suppression, especially root application of 250 μM SNP and foliar addition of 500 μM SNP. Addition of SNP promoted the chlorophyll synthesis suggesting that the photosynthesis was up-regulated. Exogenous NO increased Cd-decreased activities of antioxidant enzymes and markedly diminished Cd-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) and MDA accumulation. Moreover, the absorption of Ca, Mg, Fe and Cu was increased, indicating that exogenous NO stimulated H+-ATPase activity to promote sequestration or uptake of ions. In addition, exogenous NO also inhibited Cd transfer from roots to shoots, which may indicate that Cd retention in roots induced by NO plays a significant role in Cd tolerance in lettuce seedlings. These data suggest that under Cd stress, exogenous NO improves photosynthesis by increasing chlorophyll synthesis, protects lettuce seedlings against oxidative damage by scavenging ROS, helps to maintain the uptake of nutrient elements, and inhibits Cd transferred to shoots effectively.  相似文献
