A majority (72%) of Picea rubens Sarg. (red spruce) trees in an old-growth spruce-fir forest in the Great Smoky Mountains underwent episodes of radial growth suppression and release before they reached the forest canopy. Prior to canopy recruitment, trees experienced an average of 1.43 and a maximum of 7 suppression periods with an average ring width of 0.257 mm. Duration of suppression periods ranged from 4 to 79 years with an average of 19.05 years, which was significantly shorter than the average duration of release periods (29.00 years). Mean ring width in a suppression period was negatively correlated with duration of the suppression period. The opposite was true for release periods. The severity of suppression had no significant effect on mean ring width in subsequent release periods. Greater suppression was observed in the recent growth pattern of current non-canopy trees than in the historical growth pattern reconstructed from current canopy trees. Growth releases prior to canopy recruitment, triggered by small gaps or neighboring gaps, displayed a continuous pattern over the last two centuries and had consistent frequency in recent decades. By contrast, canopy recruitment resulting from large-gap disturbances was discontinuous over the last two centuries, and less frequent after 1850.  相似文献

This paper illustrates the effects of abrupt stem burial (burial depth ~0.5 m) on tree growth in mature (46 ± 8 years) European larch (Larix decidua Mill.) trees. In contrast to the previous research, which was mostly carried out with saplings and on experimental sites where regular aggradation occurred through the transport of sand, this work focuses on the impact of natural, abrupt burial of mature trees with rocks contained in a sandy-silty matrix typical for debris flows in mountainous headwater catchments. The effect of burial is assessed radially and axially within the stem and over almost three decades after burial. The analysis of growth disturbances and their intensity was based on the 143 cross sections (572 growth series) taken at 10-cm intervals from 6 Larix decidua Mill. The results show quite clearly that abrupt burial causes massive suppression of radial growth as compared to pre-event conditions (mean 77 %, min 38 %, max 92 %, SD 7.2 %). The trees sampled were unable to resume pre-burial growth rates even after 25 years, but recovered to reference growth conditions (as measured in undisturbed, local reference trees) after 15 years (min 3 years, max 25 years, SD 9 years). The results differ only insignificantly between different heights along the tree axis and suppression is equally well expressed at different radial positions within the stem.  相似文献

High-altitude Polylepis besseri woodlands in Bolivia are under increasing threat from human use and disturbance. Currently, there is no information regarding P. besseri growth rates, age structures or the relationship between environmental variables and growth. Such information would be useful for effective management and conservation of the remaining woodlands. We used standard dendrochronological techniques to determine the age and radial growth rates for 23 trees from two Polylepis besseri populations in Sacha Loma (mountains Uypa and Chutu Senega), and investigated the relationship between climate and radial growth. Wood samples exhibited semicircular porosity and visible tree-ring boundaries. The sample trees were young (mean age 40 years, max age 63 years) and growing slowly (<1 mm/year). Trees at Chutu Senega were older and growing more slowly than those at Uypa. The strong linearity of cumulated radial increments suggest that P. besseri may maintain consistent growth rates beyond 60 years. Our results indicate that radial growth is limited by the accumulation of reserves the year before ring formation, and that a warm period before the growing season (humid period) can increase P. besseri’s growth in the Bolivian-Tucuman biogeographic Province. It seems that local factors are more important than regional factors in these high Andean woodlands. This study improves our understanding of the biology of Polylepis and demonstrates the usefulness of dendrochronology for investigating the biotic, abiotic and anthropogenic effects on woodlands in areas lacking long term historical data.  相似文献

为探究广西金钟山细叶云南松径向生长及其对气候的响应,该文建立了细叶云南松树木年轮标准年表,采用响应分析探讨了径向生长与气候因子的关系,并使用逐步回归和方差分解量化了不同气候因子对径向生长的影响。结果表明:(1)响应分析结果显示,上一年1月、8月、9月、11月的日照时数以及上一年10月的平均最低气温和平均气温与标准年表年轮宽度均呈显著正相关,而上一年6月降雨量>10 mm的天数与年轮宽度呈显著负相关; 当年2月的降雨量、3月的空气相对湿度和平均最低气温、6月的日照时数以及9月的平均气温和平均最高气温均与年轮宽度呈显著正相关。(2)逐步回归最终模型的方差分解结果显示,上一年10月的平均最低气温对细叶云南松径向生长的影响最大(方差解释量达23.35%),其次是当年9月的平均最高气温(方差解释量为10.39%); 上一年1月和11月的日照时数分别解释了径向生长变异的3.94%和6.58%。综上表明,秋季的温度和冬季的光照条件是限制细叶云南松径向生长最主要的气候因子,早春干旱和雨季大降雨量会降低细叶云南松的径向生长。  相似文献

Question: Will a non‐indigenous, invasive, understorey shrub, such as Lonicera maackii (Amur honeysuckle) have an impact on the productivity of overstorey trees in hardwood forests? Location: Trees from 12 invaded and four non‐invaded sites were sampled in hardwood forests of southwestern Ohio, US. Methods: Changes in radial and basal area tree growth in the ten years prior to L. maackii invasion vs. ten years after invasion were examined using dendrochronological techniques. Intervention analysis was used to detect growth changes 25 years prior to and 25 years following invasion, and estimates of load impacts for L. maackii population and biomass were also calculated. Results: We found that the rate of radial and basal area growth of overstorey trees was reduced significantly in eleven out of twelve invaded sites. Non‐invaded sites did not exhibit this consistent pattern of reduced growth. For invaded vs. non‐invaded sites, the mean basal area growth was reduced by 15.8%, and the overall rate of basal area growth was reduced by 53.1%. Intervention analysis revealed that the first significant growth reductions were 6.25 ± 1.24 (mean ± SE) years after invasion with the greatest frequency of negative growth changes occurring 20 years after invasion. In invaded stands, 41% of trees experienced negative growth changes. In terms of invasive load estimates per 1000 L. maackii individuals, radial tree growth was reduced by 0.56 mm.a?1, and basal area growth was reduced by 0.74 cm2.a?1, Given these findings, significant economic losses could occur in hardwood forests of Ohio. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first study using dendrochronological techniques to investigate the impact of a non‐indigenous, understorey plant on overstorey tree growth. Active management will likely be needed to maintain forest productivity in L. maackii impacted landscapes.  相似文献

树木径向生长对气候因子的响应是树轮气候学的基础。在我国西北地区,虽然已有大量的树轮-气候响应研究,但是响应分析多基于数理统计结果,缺乏对树木生长过程的理解。基于此,于2013年到2015年在祁连山东部吐鲁沟国家森林公园内通过Dendrometer连续监测了树轮气候重建中常用树种青杄的径向生长,通过平均值法提取2013到2015年生长季内不同时间尺度(1天、7天、10天)的平均径向生长量及对应时间段的平均气候状况。不同时间尺度径向生长量和气候因子的相关分析结果表明,时间尺度的延长削弱了树干水分昼夜变化的干扰,但水分仍然是青杄径向生长的限制因子。为了进一步分析青杄径向生长与气候关系随时间的变化情况,以31天为窗口将日径向生长量与气候要素每隔一天进行滑动相关,结果显示:5、7月青杄的径向生长与降水的关系稳定,都呈显著正相关,但是6月降水的年际变率较大,导致树木可利用水分的变幅也较大,因而树木径向生长与6月水分的响应关系不稳定,存在较大的年际差异,而这可能是一些树轮-气候响应研究中轮宽与6月降水关系不显著的原因。  相似文献

利用中国浙江省西南部九龙山自然保护区和安徽省南部牯牛降的高海拔黄山松树轮径向宽度资料,分别建立了2个树轮宽度差值年表(RES).由子样本信号强度(SSS)>0.8判定,九龙山年表(JLS01)的可靠时段为1884—2010年,牯牛降年表(GNJ01)的可靠时段为1837—2008年.将采样点周围气象站气象数据做算术平均代表区域气候状况,利用相关函数检验了两年表与区域气象数据的月降水量、月平均温度、月平均相对湿度、月总云量和月日照时数的关系.结果表明: 2个高海拔点树木径向生长主要受夏季(上年6、7月,当年6月)水热条件的影响.九龙山年表与上年6、7月温度呈显著正相关,与上年6、7月和当年6月降水及相对湿度呈显著负相关,与上年7月总云量呈显著负相关,与上年6、7月日照时数呈显著正相关;牯牛降年表与上年7月温度呈显著正相关,与上年7月和当年6月降水及相对湿度呈显著负相关,与上年6月总云量呈显著负相关,与上年7月、当年6月日照时数呈显著正相关.由于高海拔地区温度较低,夏季温度的升高有利于该地区树木生长,同时较多降水对应的高相对湿度、高云量和低日照时数,限制了光合作用产物的合成,导致树木的径向生长受到抑制.

全球气候变暖背景下, 西南地区气候呈现出明显的暖干化特征, 但区域优势树种云南松(Pinus yunnanensis)对气候暖干化的响应存在不确定性。该研究根据树木年代学方法选择研究区域87株云南松样本进行树芯采集, 构建云南松树轮年表, 结合1952-2016年的气温和降水等气象资料, 利用响应分析、多元回归分析以及滑动相关分析等方法研究了影响南盘江流域云南松径向生长的关键气候因子及其对气候暖干化的响应规律。研究结果表明: 1985年以来, 研究区域气候暖干化特征明显, 气温上升和降水量下降的速率是1984年前的5和6倍, 年平均气温、年平均最高气温、年平均最低气温的上升速率为0.044、0.041和0.050 ℃·a -1, 年降水量的下降速率为 6.02 mm·a -1。气候暖干化使云南松的生长对温度响应的敏感度降低, 对水分响应的敏感度增强, 气温的解释率由暖干化前的44.95%下降到21.97%, 水分的解释率由暖干化前的55.05%上升到78.03%。暖干化增强了当年气候因子对径向生长的影响, 减弱了上年气候因子的影响, 与径向生长显著相关的当年气候因子增加了3个, 当年气候因子对径向生长的解释率增加了16.05%。暖干化减弱了云南松生长的“滞后效应”, 气候变化对树木生长影响的时效性增强。在5-7月和9-11月, 气候变暖使径向生长与气温、水分的响应关系变得不稳定。该研究可为气候暖干化区域云南松林的经营、管理以及区域气候重建提供理论依据和基础数据。  相似文献

Estimates of lichen growth rates based on the measurements of several thalli at any site do not exist for continental Antarctica. However, the very limited existing data suggest that lichen growth rate may be a good indicator of climate change in Antarctica. We present measurements made on thalli of the lichen Buellia frigida Darb. growing in the Dry Valleys, Southern Victoria Land, continental Antarctica, which appear to have some of the slowest radial growth rates yet measured. Photographs of thalli at three different sites were analysed for growth over a 25-year period using nano-GIS techniques. At one site, Mt. Falconer Summit, the lichens had a mean growth rate of 0.0052 mm year−1 with one individual as low as 0.0036 mm year−1. Thalli at the other two sites had significantly higher mean growth rates, 0.0136 mm year−1 at Mt. Falconer Ridge and 0.0118 mm year−1 at Rhone Bench. Assuming a constant growth rate, thalli at Mt. Falconer Summit had a mean age of 5,367 years, whilst the thalli at the other two sites were much younger, 840–1,026 years. We suggest that the different ages represent the appearance of new substrate for colonisation following climate changes in the Dry Valleys that altered the amount and duration of snow. The results confirm that lichen growth rate differs by almost two orders of magnitude over a latitudinal range of 15 degrees from south to north across Antarctica.  相似文献

夏干萨特位于新疆天山中段乌鲁木齐河山区,在此干旱,半干旱地区的森林下限所采集的天山云杉(Picca schrenkinna var.tianschanica)树轮样本建立的树轮宽度年表具有最大的平均敏感度和最大的标准关蓄意助记词件表可能含有最多的降水信息,利用相关分析的方法计算了年轮宽度指数和气候要素间的相关关系,发现5月份的降水与年表的相关最好,进一步计算了旬降水量与年表的相关关系,发现5月下旬的降水与年表的单相关系灵敏最高,5月下旬的降水是森林下限云杉生长的主要限制因子,这一结果具有明确的树木生理学意义,云杉直径生长主要在5-8月份,其中5-6月份形成大约一半的年轮,5月下旬位于年轮形成关键时段的中部,为轮宽形成的最活跃期,同时5月下旬降水的大变率与夏干萨特年表的高敏感度相一致,从另一角度说明了5月下旬降水作为森林下限天山云杉生长关键限制因子的适当性,重建了大西沟气象站5月下旬326a的降水并分析了其长期变化特征,发现320多年来的5月下旬降水分为8个完整的干湿变化阶段,其中最干期出现在1701-1722年,最湿期出现在1961-1981年,降水序列具有显著的64,32,22,14,5和11a变化周期,其中的22a及11a周期与太阳黑子的活动周期相一致,利用方差分析方法进行了未来干湿变化趋势的预测,发现2001-2007年以降水偏少为主,而2008-2015年以偏多为主,这对于北疆重要粮食作物冬小麦的长期产量预报及种植规划具有重要意义。  相似文献
