Cadmium (Cd) concentration in field-grown tobacco leaves usually ranges from < 0.5 to 5 mg Cd kg–1 dry matter (DM). Reducing bioavailability of soil Cd by adding amendments to the soil could be suitable to mitigate Cd uptake by tobacco plants. However, little is known on the effect of inorganic amendments on agricultural soils with low Cd concentrations. Therefore, we performed a pot experiment with tobacco plants that were grown during 56 days in two neutral to alkaline agricultural soils with low total Cd concentrations (soil 1 = 0.4, soil 2 = 0.7 mg kg–1). Both soils were amended or not with 1 or 5% of sepiolite, zeolite, hydroxyapatite and apatite II™. Major and trace elements were measured in mid-stalk position leaves. Soil metals were measured in a DTPA soil extraction to assess the effect of the amendments on metal bioavailability. Some amendments significantly reduced Cd concentration in tobacco leaves, but the effect differed between the two soils tested. In soil 1, the use of zeolite at the 1% dose was the most efficient, reducing the average Cd concentration from 0.6 to 0.4 mg kg–1. In soil 2, the 5% hydroxyapatite treatment led to the maximal reduction in Cd concentration (50%), with an average final Cd concentration in leaves of 0.7 mg kg–1 (control: 1.5 mg kg–1). There was a dose effect for some amendments in soil 2 (containing more Cd), suggesting a reduced efficiency of the amendment at the lowest addition rate. DTPA extractable Cd and Zn measured at the end of the pot experiment were correlated to the metal concentrations in tobacco leaves suggesting that (1) the reduction in leaf Cd concentration was due to a reduction in metal availability to tobacco and (2) DTPA may be a suitable extractant to estimate Cd availability to tobacco plants in these two soils. In addition, a batch experiment was performed with the same soils to test a larger number of amendments, including the four tested in the pot experiment. Results were compared to those of the pot experiment to assess whether a batch experiment may predict the efficiency of an amendment on a given soil. It gave results compatible with those from the pot experiment except for the sepiolite and highlighted the broad range of potential amendments available for heavy metal remediation in crop plants.  相似文献

Effect of high boron application on boron content and growth of melons   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Synthetic chelates, such as ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), have been shown to enhance phytoextraction of Pb from contaminated soil but also cause leaching of heavy metal-chelate complexes, posing a groundwater contamination threat. In a soil column study, we examined the effect of EDTA and a biodegradable chelate [S,S] isomere of ethylene diamine disuccinate ([S,S]-EDDS), newly introduced in phytoextraction research, on the uptake of Pb by the Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa) and Pb leaching through the soil profile. Soil water sorption characteristics were modified by acrylamide hydrogel. The addition of 0.1 and 0.2% (w/w) of hydrogel amendments increased soil field water capacity from initial 24.6% to 28.5% and 31.3%, respectively. The additions of 2.5, 5 and 10 mmol EDTA kg–1 soil were more effective in enhancing Pb plant uptake than comparable [S,S]-EDDS treatments, but caused (as also 10 mmol kg–1 [S,S]-EDDS additions) unacceptably high Pb leaching in treatments with any soil water sorption conditions tested. The most efficient level of EDTA (10 mmol kg–1) enhanced plant Pb uptake by 97 times compared to the control. Shoots Pb concentrations reached 500 mg kg–1 of dry biomass. However, in this treatment 36.2% of total initial Pb was leached from the soil during the first four weeks after chelate addition. Hydrogel soil amendments were more effective in treatments with [S,S]-EDDS than with EDTA. In treatments with 10 mmol kg–1[S,S]-EDDS hydrogel amended soils, plant Pb uptake was significantly reduced and Pb leach was as high as 44.2% of total initial soil Pb. At lower [S,S]-EDDS concentrations, the effect of hydrogel soil amendment on Pb leaching was the opposite. The addition of 5 mmol kg–1 [S,S]-EDDS soil to the soil amended with 0.2% hydrogel increased Pb uptake by 18 times while only 0.2% of total initial Pb was leached. In all treatments, the concentrations of Pb in dry plant biomass were far from concentrations required for efficient soil remediation within a reasonable time span.  相似文献

In a hydroponic setting, we investigated the possible role of phytochelatins (metal-binding peptides) in the lead (Pb) tolerance of vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides L.). Pb was added to the nutrient medium at concentrations ranging from 0 to 1,200 mg L?1. Furthermore, we simulated the effect of soil phosphorus (P) on potentially plant available Pb by culturing vetiver grass in P-rich nutrient media. After 7 days of exposure to Pb, we evaluated the Pb uptake by vetiver grass. Results indicate that vetiver can accumulate Pb up to 3,000 mg kg?1 dry weight in roots with no toxicity. Formation of lead phosphate inhibited Pb uptake by vetiver, suggesting the need for an environmentally safe chelating agent in conjunction with phytoremediation to clean up soils contaminated with lead-based paint. Unambiguous characterization of phytochelatins (PCn) was possible using high pressure liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (LC-ESMS). Vetiver shows qualitative and quantitative differences in PCn synthesis between root and shoot. In root tissue from vetiver exposed to 1,200 mg Pb L-1, phytochelatins ranged from PC1 to PC3. Collision-induced dissociation of the parent ion allowed confirmation of each PCn based on the amino acid sequence. Possible Pb-PC1 and Pb2-PC1 complexes were reported in vetiver root at the highest Pb concentration. The data from these experiments show that the most probable mechanism for Pb detoxification in vetiver is by synthesizing PCn and forming Pb–PCn complexes.  相似文献

The water budget of soil, the uptake in plants and the leaching to groundwater of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) were simulated simultaneously using a physiological plant uptake model and a tipping buckets water and solute transport model for soil. Simulations were compared to results from a ten-year experimental field study, where four organic amendments were applied every second year. Predicted concentrations slightly decreased (Cd) or stagnated (Pb) in control soils, but increased in amended soils by about 10% (Cd) and 6% to 18% (Pb). Estimated plant uptake was lower in amended plots, due to an increase of Kd (dry soil to water partition coefficient). Predicted concentrations in plants were close to measured levels in plant residues (straw), but higher than measured concentrations in grains. Initially, Pb was mainly predicted to deposit from air into plants (82% in 1998); the next years, uptake from soil became dominating (30% from air in 2006), because of decreasing levels in air. For Cd, predicted uptake from air into plants was negligible (1–5%).  相似文献

  • Pogonatherum crinitum is a promising lead (Pb) hyperaccumulator due to its high Pb tolerance and accumulation ability. However, the mechanisms that support Pb accumulation and tolerance in P. crinitum are not yet clearly understood.
  • An indoor hydroponic experiment was conducted by cultivating P. crinitum seedlings exposed to intermittent Pb stress for 60 days, divided into four stages (T1, T2, T3 and T4), with a 15‐day duration per stage. The following concentrations of Pb were used: 0, 500, 0, 500 mg·l?1 and 0, 1000, 0, 1000 mg·l?1). Antioxidant enzyme activity, Pb concentration and subcellular distribution of Pb were measured at each of the above stages.
  • The results showed that superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in shoots, and SOD, peroxidase (POD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) activity in shoots and roots significantly increased from T1 (no Pb stress) to T2 (Pb stress) in both 500 mg·l?1 and 1000 mg·l?1 treatments; however, no significant difference was noted between stages T3 (no Pb stress) and T4 (Pb stress). There was no obvious effect of Pb stress on catalase (CAT) activity in shoots and roots among different stages. The Pb concentration in shoots was up to 5090.90 mg·kg?1 and 7573.57 mg·kg?1, and the bioconcentration factor (BFC) was 10.18 and 7.57 for the 500 mg·l?1 and 1000 mg·l?1 treatments, respectively, which confirmed the Pb hyperaccumulator characteristics of P. crinitum. For plants under Pb stress, most of the Pb was fixed in the cell walls, with a smaller amount in leaves and root vacuoles.
  • Both SOD and POD scavenging of reactive oxygen radicals and fixing and compartmentalisation of Pb in the cell wall might play important roles in detoxification of P. crinitum seedlings in response to Pb stress. There was no phased response of P. crinitum to intermittent Pb stress and the physiological response to Pb stress may be contiguous.

Enhancement of Pb and Zn uptake by Indian mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern.) and winter wheat (Triticum aestivumL.) grown for 50 days in pots of contaminated soil was studied with application of elemental sulphur (S) and EDTA. Sulphur was added to the soil at 5 rates (0–160 mmol kg?1) before planting, and EDTA was added in solution at 4 rates (0–8 mmol kg?1) after 40 days of plant growth. Additional pots were established with the same rates of S and EDTA but without plants to monitor soil pH and CaCl2-extractable heavy metals. The highest application rate of S acidified the soil from pH 7.1 to 6.0. Soil extractable Pb and Zn and shoot uptake of Pb and Zn increased as soil pH decreased. Both S and EDTA increased soil extractable Pb and Zn and shoot Pb and Zn uptake. EDTA was more effective than S in increasing soil extractable Pb and Zn, and the two amendments combined had a synergistic effect, raising extractable Pb to ¿1000 and Zn to ¿6 times their concentrations in unamended control soil. Wheat had higher shoot yields than Indian mustard and increasing application rates of both S and EDTA reduced the shoot dry matter yields of both plant species to as low as about half those of unamended controls. However, Indian mustard hyperaccumulated Pb in all EDTA treatments tested except the treatment with no S applied, and the maximum shoot Pb concentration was 7100 mg kg?1 under the highest application rates of S and EDTA combined. Wheat showed similar trends, but hyperaccumulation (1095 mg kg?1) occurred only at the highest rates of S and EDTA combined. Similar trends in shoot Zn were found, but with lower concentrations than Pb and far below hyperaccumulation, with maxima of 777 and 480 mg kg?1 in Indian mustard and wheat. Despite their lower yields, Indian mustard shoots extracted more Pb and Zn from the soil (up to 4.1 and 0.45 mg pot?1) than did winter wheat (up to 0.72 and 0.28 mg pot?1), indicating that the effects of S and EDTA on shoot metal concentration were more important than yield effects in determining rates of metal removal over the growth period of 50 days. Phytoextraction of Pb from this highly contaminated soil would require the growth of Indian mustard for nearly 100 years and is therefore impractical.  相似文献

Cadmium, copper, and lead were extracted from suspensions of contaminated soils using metal chelating exchange resin membranes. Nine soils with widely varying properties and Cd, Cu and Pb levels were tested. Soil suspensions made up with 4 g in 40 mL deionized water were equilibrated with 5 cm2 Ca-saturated Chelex exchange resin membrane which was retained inside a polypropylene bag and shaken at 150 rpm for 24 hrs. Resin membrane extractable Cd, Cu and Pb of the soils were correlated with Cd, Cu, and Pb uptake by young wheat seedlings grown in these soils and compared with soil Cd, Cu, and Pb extracted by 0.1 M HCl, 0.01 M CaCl2, and 0.005 M Diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA). The amounts of Cd, Cu and Pb extracted by the Ca-saturated Chelex membrane from all tested soils correlated well with those absorbed by young wheat seedlings. The Ca-saturated Chelex membrane extractable Cd, Cu and Pb of the soil had the strongest correlation with plant uptake Cd, Cu and Pb among the extraction methods we tested. It was demonstrated that the Ca-saturated Chelex membrane extraction is an appropriate method in simultaneously estimating Cd, Cu and Pb phytoavailability of soil and is applicable to a wide range of soils.  相似文献

  • Excess salt affects about 955 million ha of arable land worldwide, and 49% of agricultural land is Zn‐deficient. Soil salinity and zinc deficiency can intensify plant abiotic stress. The mechanisms by which Zn can mitigate salinity effects on plant functions are not well understood.
  • We conducted an experiment to determine how Zn and salinity effects on rice plant retention of Zn, K+ and the salt ion Na+ affect chlorophyll formation, leaf cell membrane stability and grain yield. We examined the mechanisms of Zn nutrition in mitigating salinity stress by examining plant physiology and nutrition. We used native Zn‐deficient soils (control), four salinity (EC ) and Zn treatments – Zn 10 mg·kg?1 (Zn10), EC 5 dS ·m?1 (EC 5), Zn10+EC 5 and Zn15+EC 5, a coarse rice (KS ‐282) and a fine rice (Basmati‐515) in the study.
  • Our results showed that Zn alone (Zn10) significantly increased rice tolerance to salinity stress by promoting Zn/K+ retention, inhibiting plant Na+ uptake and enhancing leaf cell membrane stability and chlorophyll formation in both rice cultivars in native alkaline, Zn‐deficient soils (<  0.05). Further, under the salinity treatment (EC 5), Zn inputs (10–15 mg·kg?1) could also significantly promote rice plant Zn/K+ retention and reduce plant Na+ uptake, and thus increased leaf cell membrane stability and grain yield. Coarse rice was more salinity‐tolerant than fine rice, having significantly higher Zn/K+ nutrient retention.
  • The mechanistic basis of Zn nutrition in mitigating salinity impacts was through promoting plant Zn/K+ uptake and inhibiting plant Na+ uptake, which could result in increased plant physiological vigour, leaf cell membrane stability and rice productivity.

Abstract

Little attention has been paid to the combined use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) and steel slag (SS) for ameliorating heavy metal polluted soils. A greenhouse pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of SS and AMF?Funneliformis mosseae (Fm), Glomus versiforme (Gv) and Rhizophagus intraradices (Ri) on plant growth and Cd, Pb uptake by maize grown in soils added with 5?mg Cd kg?1 and 300?mg Pb kg?1 soil. The combined usage of AMF and SS (AMF?+?SS) promoted maize growth, and Gv?+?SS had the most obvious effect. Meanwhile, single SS addition and AMF?+?SS decreased Cd, Pb concentrations in maize, and the greater reductions were found in combined utilization, and the lowest Cd, Pb concentrations of maize appeared in Gv?+?SS. Single SS amendment and AMF?+?SS enhanced soil pH and decreased soil diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA)-extractable Cd, Pb concentrations. Furthermore, alone and combined usage of AMF and SS increased contents of soil total glomalin. Our research indicated a synergistic effect between AMF and SS on enhancing plant growth and reducing Cd, Pb accumulation in maize, and Gv?+?SS exerted the most pronounced effect. This work suggests that AMF inoculation in combination with SS addition may be a potential method for not only phytostabilization of Pb-Cd-contaminated soil but maize safety production.  相似文献

Phytoextraction has been proposed as an alternative remediation technology for soils polluted with heavy metals, but is generally perceived to be too slow. Enhancing accumulation of trace pollutants in harvestable plant tissues is a prerequisite for such technology to be practical. The main aims of this paper were to investigate whether a combination of nutrients and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) enhanced Pb uptake of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) plants, and if timing of EDTA application altered Pb uptake and environmental persistence. Plants were grown in greenhouse pot experiments. Pb distributions and uptake of the whole plant were studied using chemical and flame atomic absorption spectrometry analyses. Pb mobilization by EDTA appeared to be dose dependent, with more mobilization for the high than the low dose. There were distinct differences in mobilization patterns of various nutrient amendments. EDTA mobilized Pb more in the medium than the highest and lowest nutrient levels. Heterogeneous soil humus components exerted mobilizing and stabilizing effects, so the medium nutrition was most effective for phytoextraction. At low nutrient levels, Pb concentration in the shoot with one low EDTA application was less than two applications to the same total EDTA dosage. So in the poor soil, two applications of EDTA was more effective than once. The half-life of two low EDTA treatment applications was longer than for one application, to the same total dosage. In general, sunflower was suited to phytoremediation of moderately Pb-contaminated soil by phytoextraction.  相似文献

The effects of Ethylenediamine disuccinic acid (EDDS) (0 and 5?mmol·kg?1) as a synthetic chemical amendment, vermicompost (0 and 5%w/w) as an organic amendment and their combined application were evaluated for the phytoextraction by sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) at three artificial contamination levels in soils (0, 50, and 100?mg·kg?1 for Cd and 0, 100, and 200?mg·kg?1 for Pb). The results showed that the application of EDDS was the most effective method to increase Pb and Cd concentrations in both parts of the plant. The results also showed that the application of EDDS increased 9.27% shoot Pb content at 200?mg·kg?1 but decreased 15.95% shoot Cd content at 100?mg·kg?1 contamination level with respect to the respective controls. The bioavailable concentrations of Cd at 100?mg·kg?1 and Pb at 200?mg·kg?1 contamination level in the soil at the end of experiment increased 25% and 26%, respectively after the application of EDDS but vermicompost decreased 43.28% the bioavailable Pb concentration relative to their controls. Vermicompost increased the remediation factor index of Cd, thus making it the best treatment for the phytoextraction of Cd. The combined application of EDDS and vermicompost was the best amendment for Pb phytoextraction.  相似文献

Summary The effect of lead and cadmium on the dry matter yield and nutrient concentration of tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) and egg-plant (Solanum melongena) was studied in a greenhouse experiment. The results showed some benificial effects of Pb and Cd at their lower doses and toxicity at higher levels. The threshold concentration (C10), toxicity index (T10) and loading rate to produce C10 were also calculated. These values suggested the tomato to be more tolerant than egg-plant for heavy metals whose toxicity was found in the order of Cd>Pb in both the plants. The application of the heavy metals was found to effect the nutrient concentration and their uptake by plants. The results have been explained on the basis of their complexation and translocation through the plant sap.  相似文献

Several Gentle Remediation Options (GRO), e.g., plant-based options (phytoremediation), singly and combined with soil amendments, can be simultaneously efficient for degrading organic pollutants and either stabilizing or extracting trace elements (TEs). Here, a 5-month greenhouse trial was performed to test the efficiency of Medicago sativa L., singly and combined with a compost addition (30% w/w), to treat soils contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons (PHC), Co and Pb collected at an auto scrap yard. After 5 months, total soil Pb significantly decreased in the compost-amended soil planted with M. sativa, but not total soil Co. Compost incorporation into the soil promoted PHC degradation, M. sativa growth and survival, and shoot Pb concentrations [3.8 mg kg?1 dry weight (DW)]. Residual risk assessment after the phytoremediation trial showed a positive effect of compost amendment on plant growth and earthworm development. The O2 uptake by soil microorganisms was lower in the compost-amended soil, suggesting a decrease in microbial activity. This study underlined the benefits of the phytoremediation option based on M. sativa cultivation and compost amendment for remediating PHC- and Pb-contaminated soils.  相似文献

Effects of Se on the uptake of essential elements in Pteris vittata L.   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Selenium has been proven to be an antioxidant in plants at low dosages. To understand better the mechanisms of Se toxicity and benefit to plants, more investigations about effects of Se on the uptake of essential elements in plants would be desirable. In this study, hydroponic (nutrient solution culture) and pot (soil culture) experiments were simultaneously conducted to investigate the effects of Se on the uptake and distribution of essential elements in Pteris vittata. L (Chinese brake fern), an arsenic (As)-hyperaccumulator and a selenium (Se)-accumulator. Chinese brake fern took up much more Se in nutrient solution culture than in soil culture, with the highest Se content recorded as 1,573 mg kg?1 in the roots, demonstrating remarkable tolerance to Se. In soil culture, Chinese brake fern also accumulated high content of Se, with the highest content measured as 81 mg kg?1 and 233 mg kg?1, in the fronds and roots, respectively. In soil culture, the addition of Se suppressed the uptake of most measured elements, including magnesium (Mg), potassium (K), phosphorus (P), iron (Fe), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn). In nutrient solution culture, when the Se content in the tissues of Chinese brake fern was relatively low, the supplementation of Se suppressed the uptake of most essential elements; however, with the increase of Se content, stimulation effects of Se on the uptake of Ca, Mg, K were observed. An initial decrease followed by a rapid increase of Fe content in the fronds of Chinese brake fern was found with Se addition and tissue Se content increasing in nutrient solution culture, suggesting antagonistic and synergic roles of Se on these elements under low and high Se exposure, respectively. We suggest that Ca, Mg, K may be involved in the tolerance mechanism of Se, and that the regulation of Fe accumulation by Se in the fronds might be partially due to the dual effects of Se on Chinese brake fern.

Biotite is a potassium rich mineral, which is used as a fertilizer in organic farming and as a soil amendment in conventional farming. Its ability to reduce 134Cs uptake by ryegrass from peat soil was studied in pot experiments and compared with zeolite, heavy clay, bentonite and apatite. In addition, the long-term effect of biotite on 137Cs uptake from peat soil was studied in the peat field. In the pot experiments in the first cut of ryegrass, the minerals decreased 134Cs uptake by plants in the following order: zeolite > heavy clay > bentonite > biotite > apatite. Apatite did not have any effect on the plant 134Cs level. In the later cuts, the uptake of 134Cs from biotite-treated soil decreased further while that from soils treated with other minerals remained unchanged or even increased. In general, 134Cs uptake by plants decreased with increasing mineral level. The decrease of 134Cs uptake became more efficient, especially at the early growth stage, by mixing small amounts of zeolite in biotite. The results of the field experiment indicated the long-term effect of biotite on reducing 134Cs uptake by plants. Biotite application rate was 30 t ha-1. The five-year mean of the plant/soil concentration ratio of 137Cs was 0.05 for biotite-treated soil, in contrast to 0.14 for the control soil. On the whole, biotite reduced considerably the 137Cs level of plants on peat soil and this effect was long-lasting. For an effective reduction of plant radiocesium a great quantity of biotite is needed and therefore it is most suitable for greenhouse cultivation where contaminated slightly decomposed peat is used as a growing medium.  相似文献

Lead (Pb) is the most common heavy metal contaminant in the environment. Pb is not an essential element for plants, but they absorb it when it is present in their environment, especially in rural areas when the soil is polluted by automotive exhaust and in fields contaminated with fertilizers containing heavy metal impurities. To investigate lead effects on nutrient uptake and metabolism, two plant species, spinach (Spinacia oleracea) and wheat (Triticum aestivum), were grown under hydroponic conditions and stressed with lead nitrate, Pb(NO3)2, at three concentrations (1.5, 3, and 15 mM).Lead is accumulated in a dose-dependent manner in both plant species, which results in reduced growth and lower uptake of all mineral ions tested. Total amounts and concentrations of most mineral ions (Na, K, Ca, P, Mg, Fe, Cu and Zn) are reduced, although Mn concentrations are increased, as its uptake is reduced less relative to the whole plant’s growth. The deficiency of mineral nutrients correlates in a strong decrease in the contents of chlorophylls a and b and proline in both species, but these effects are less pronounced in spinach than in wheat. By contrast, the effects of lead on soluble proteins differ between species; they are reduced in wheat at all lead concentrations, whereas they are increased in spinach, where their value peaks at 3 mM Pb.The relative lead uptake by spinach and wheat, and the different susceptibility of these two species to lead treatment are discussed.  相似文献

The metal accumulation potential of Chenopodium album L. grown on various amendments of tannery sludge (TS) was studied after 60 days of sapling planted. The analysis of the results showed that the levels of pH, cation exchange capacity, organic carbon, organic matter and DTPA extractable metals (except Mn) of amendments increased by the addition of tannery sludge ratio. Shoot length of the plant increased by the addition of sludge, whereas, no marked change was observed in root length, fresh and dry weight of the plant. Accumulation of the metals in the plants was found in the order; Fe > Mn > Zn > Cr > Cu > Pb > Ni > Cd. Translocation of toxic metals (Cr, Pb, Cd) in different parts of the tested plant was found in the order; leaves > stems > roots. An increase in the photosynthetic pigments, carotenoid and leaf protein contents of the plants were found to increase with increase in sludge amendments. Correlation analysis between metal accumulation in the plants with DTPA extractable metals emphasized that Mn, Ni, Cr, Pb and Cd showed positive correlation (p < 0.05), whereas, Fe, Zn and Cu showed negative correlation. Transfer factor analysis emphasized that 10% TS amendments were suitable for phytoextraction of Cr. Overall analysis of the data exhibited that the plants may be used for phytoextraction of Cr from tannery waste contaminated soil as most of the metal was accumulated in harvestable part which is a matter of serious concern, whenever used for edible purposes.  相似文献

Summary Levels of extractable micronutrients in a peat and the growth and nutrient uptake of young highbush blueberry plants (Vaccinium corymbosum L cv. Blueray) were studied in a greenhouse experiment in response to liming and two rates of addition of Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu.Levels of extractable micronutrients showed different trends with liming depending upon the extractant used and the element being considered. Levels of 0.05M CaCl2-extractable Fe, Mn and Zn decreased as the pH was raised whilst those of Cu first decreased and then increased again. There was a general decline in 0.1M HCl-extractable Fe, Mn and Cu with increasing pH but levels of Zn were not greatly affected. Levels of 0.005M DTPA extractable Fe, Mn Zn and Cu generally declined but those extractable with 0.04M EDTA were either unaffected or increased as the pH was raised. Levels of CaCl2-extractable Mn and Zn were the same order of magnitude as those extractable with HCl, DTPA and EDTA. In contrast, the latter reagents extracted considerably more Fe and Cu than did CaCl2.Dry matter yields of plants were increased as the pH was raised from 3.9 to 4.3 but then decreased markedly as the pH was raised further to 6.7. With increasing pH, concentrations of plant Fe generally increased those of Mn were decreased and those of Zn and Cu were not greatly affected except for a marked decline in plant Cu at pH 6.7.  相似文献
