Eighty years of Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences in retrospect

The Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences （CAPS） celebrated her 80th anniversary last November. Eighty years ago, Dr. Robert K. S. Lim, Professor of Physiology at the Peking Union Medical College, in association with Dr. Wu Xian （Professor of Biochemistry） and Dr. B. E. Read （Professor of Pharmacology）, sponsored the establishment of the Chinese Physiological Society. They held the inaugural meeting in Beijing on February 27, 1926. This event was an important landmark in the history of the development of physiological sciences in China.

正Dr.Xiyun Yan obtained her B.S.degree in 1983,from the Henan Medical College,and then studied cell biology in Professor Shizhang Bei’s lab in the Institute of Biophysics,Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)until leaving for Germany in 1989.After receiving her medical doctor's degree from Heidelberg University in Germany,she joined the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Institute in New York as a postdoctoral research fellow.In 1997,Dr.Yan returned to China through her selection in the"Hundred Talents Program"by     

For Our founding father of ABRC, Prof. Ray Wu (1928–2008)

Dr. Ray Wu, the Liberty Hyde Bailey Professor of Mo-lecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell University, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2008, at the age of 79. Dr. Wu was a pioneer in DNA sequencing and recombinant DNA technology, a renowned scientist in rice genetic engi-neering, a strong and long time advocate for scientific re-search and education in Chinese Taipei and Chinese Mainland, and most of all, a genuine mentor and true friend to many of us, worldwide and at ABRC.     

A tribute to Professor Yong Zhao

Professor Yong Zhao was the Dean of School of Life Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University and a renowned biologist whose studies focused on the role of telomeres and telom-erase in cancer and aging.Dr.Zhao's postdoctoral mentor Professor Woodring E.Wright(1949-2019)of University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center(UTSW)once remarked,“It will be hard for anyone else in my lab to match up to the superb performance of Yong Zhao.”

正Dr.Xiao-Fan Wang entered Wuhan University in 1978 to receive his college education following the reform of the education system.In 1982,shortly after admitted to the graduate school of the Institute of Genetics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS),he was sent as one of the first group of Chinese students under the CUSBEA (ChinaUnited States Biochemistry Examination and Application)

A change of leadership at JIPB: A message to theplant sciences community

<正>On January 1, 2019, a well-planned changeover took place in the management of JIPB. On this date, Professor Zhizhong Gong at the China Agricultural University, and Professor Kang Chong at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, assumed their roles as Co-Editorsin-Chief. Professor Wei-Hua Wu joined the JIPB board as Chief Scientific Advisor at the same date.     

Tsen-Hwang Shaw: Founder of Vertebrate Zoology in China

"The founder of vertebrate zoology in China;an erudite scholar of insect,fish,bird and mammal research;combining taxonomy and animal ecology,and pioneering in biostatis-tics."These are memorial comments written by Chinese mammalogist Wuping Xia on the 15th anniversary of the death of Professor Tsen-Hwang Shaw(寿振黄,1899-1964),which offers an overview of the academic contributions of Professor Shaw(Fig.1).
