In ten 0.1 ha drainable ponds O+ cyprinids were stocked to assess their impact on the aquatic community. Bream and roach were stocked in early June, 1986, and carp in early July, 1986. The ponds were drained mid November, 1986. The relationship between the fish community and its food resource was estimated in terms of production and consumption with use of the data on growth and mortality of the fish. The average gross production of the fish species in the ten ponds (48.4 kg during the experiment) was dominated by the carp (58.5%). A minimum estimate of the food consumption of the O+ cyprinids is 760 kJ.m–2. The average production of bream and roach was much lower than that of carp due to a higher mortality and a more specialized feeding pattern. The gross productions of carp, bream and roach in the ten ponds were not significantly related, although stomach analysis showed diet overlap between the carp and the bream.  相似文献

The littoral zone of Lake Balaton and its periphyton-zooplankton-fish communities have been investigated intensively in recent years. Total average number of crustacean plankton varied from 36 to 126 ind l–1, their biomass from 0.49 to 1.86 mg ww l–1 month–1 at different areas of the littoral zone. In general, these values for the above parameters were higher in hypertrophic areas. 23 fish species occurred in the littoral zone with cyprinids dominating. The seasonal food spectra of Y-O-Y roach (Rutilus rutilus), white bream (Blicca bjoerkna) and bream (Abramis brema) were based mainly on planktonic crustaceans and benthic/periphytic invertebrates. According to the frequency of occurrence of crustaceans and other invertebrates, the food composition of young cyprinids differed significantly in the NE and SW-basins of the lake.  相似文献

Brachionus calyciflorus is one of freshwaterrotifers found in fish ponds in Pekanbaru, Riau,Indonesia. Its density varied depending on that ofphytoplankton. Maximum of 2.5 ×103 ind. l–1 was found in ponds fertilised with animal wastes.The fecundity and population growth of B.calyciflorus was studied. Results indicated that the fecundity of amictic females was higher thanthat of unfertilized mictic females. During their life span, amictic and mictic females produced29.7 and 12.5 eggs per female, respectively. In the mass culture of 500 ml media, the highestdensity of female and male rotifers was 975.8 and 9.6 ind. ml–1, respectively. During 8 days cultureperiod, they also produced eggs as many as 124.2 ml–1.Human and animal wastespromoted the growth of phytoplankton as food forrotifers in the pond. A laboratory study confirms this. The best growth of B. calyciflorus at a density of 109 ind. ml–1 was found at 0.5 g l–1 of humanexcreta. A high density of B. calyciflorus (542ind. ml–1) was also found in semi-continuous culturewith chicken excreta.  相似文献

Filamentous algae in eutrophic carp ponds in South Bohemia (Central Europe) were studied from 1988 to 1990. High biomass (490 g DW m-2) was attained by Cladophora fracta (O. F. Müll. ex Vahl) Kütz. after two months of growth. This marked growth depleted inorganic carbon in the water, but did not decrease the concentration of tissue nutrients. Laboratory measurements of final pH indicate that all the filamentous algae studied, except for Tribonema, are very efficient HCO3 - users. An extremely high pH of 11.6 and oxygen concentration of 32 mg l-1 were measured in the algal mats. High pH resulted in CaCO3 precipitation, visible as white incrustations on algal filaments. The amount of precipitated CaCO3 reached 134 kg ha-1. After reaching peak biomass, 90% of the Cladophora decomposed over the next 95 days.The highest net photosynthetic rate in C. fracta was measured between pH range 8.5–10.0 and oxygen concentrations of 7–12 mg l-1. Optimum temperature for photosynthesis was between 17–22°C.  相似文献

Diurnal vertical distribution of rotifers was investigated in the Chara bed and the water immediately above it in the shallow region (ca. 1 m depth) of Budzyskie Lake (Wielkopolski National Park, Poland) in early September 1998. Eighty one rotifer species were identified – 71 among Chara and 59 in the open water. Significant differences in rotifer densities were observed in the Chara, with highest numbers during the day (2316 ind. l–1) and lowest numbers early morning (521 ind. l–1) and at dusk (610 ind. l–1). Above the Chara, the numbers of rotifers did not change significantly (615–956 ind. l–1). Littoral- or limnetic-forms differed in their diel vertical distribution between both zones. One group of littoral species was characterized by increased densities in the Chara in the daytime, while a second group increased in density during the night. The densities of limnetic species, which were much higher in open water, decreased in the morning or daytime in this zone. These differences in the diel behaviour of particular groups of rotifers may be dependent on microhabitat and may also be related to different kinds of predation, the exploitative competition for shared food resources between rotifers and crustaceans, as well as typical adaptation to littoral or limnetic life.  相似文献

The hypotheses that larval fish density may potentially affect phytoplankton abundance through regulating zooplankton community structure, and that fish effect may also depend on nutrient levels were tested experimentally in ponds with three densities of larval walleye, Stizostedion vitreum (0, 25, and 50 fish m–3), and two fertilizer types (inorganic vs organic fertilizer). A significant negative relationship between larval fish density and large zooplankton abundance was observed despite fertilizer types. Larval walleye significantly reduced the abundances of Daphnia, Bosmina, and Diaptomus but enhanced the abundance of various rotifer species (Brachionus, Polyarthra, and Keratella). When fish predation was excluded, Daphnia became dominant, but Daphnia grazing did not significantly suppress blue-green algae. Clearly, larval fish can be an important regulator for zooplankton community. Algal composition and abundance were affected more by fertilizer type than by fish density. Inorganic fertilizer with a high N:P ratio (20:1) enhanced blue-green algal blooms, while organic fertilizer with a lower N:P ratio (10:1) suppressed the abundance of blue-green algae. This result may be attributed to the high density of blue-green algae at the beginning of the experiment and the fertilizer type. Our data suggest that continuous release of nutrients from suspended organic fertilizer at a low rate may discourage the development of blue-green algae. Nutrient inputs at a low N:P ratio do not necessarily result in the dominance of blue-green algae.  相似文献

Late-evening gut inspection of a dominant planktivore (smelt) and evaluation of densities, fecundities, and body-size distributions in dominant zooplankton prey (cladocerans) were made in day-to-day sequences in June–July (24 days in 1999 and 24 days in 2000). This was conducted as a field test of the hypothesis that species-specific population densities in cladocerans result from size-selective predation by a dominant fish assumed to be a general predator, switching from one prey to another as relative abundance changes. Little of the expected coincidence has been revealed between population density declines and increased numbers of a given prey in smelt diet. However, the data were consistent with the notion that fish would switch from one prey to another depending on the prey relative abundance (the number of prey a fish would see in its reaction field volume). Each cladoceran population fluctuated around its species-specific density level, lower or higher, depending on individual susceptibility to smelt predation, from 0.2 ind. l–1 in large-bodied Daphnia hyalina and Leptodora kindtii, to 30.0 ind. l–1 in small-bodied Daphnia cucullata andBosmina thersites. In spite of high fish-to-fish and day-to-day variability in both smelt diet and smelt selectivity for different prey, all cladocerans (also copepods and midge larvae) were equally persistent in smelt diet, and smelt selectivity was similar for small- and large-bodied prey categories, but lower for elongated-(Daphnia, Diaphanosoma) than for compact-body (Bosmina, Chydorus) species, when integrated for the entire sampling time. Closer examination of D. cucullata and B. thersites revealed strong smelt selection for later instars and females with greater clutches, showing that size distribution in a cladoceran population might be structured by fish predation in a similar way to that a cladoceran community (species relative abundance) is structured in a lake habitat. The birth-rate-compensation hypothesis is offered to explain why the value of food selectivity index in a planktivorous fish would remain the same for alternate prey categories with similar life-history traits, unless they differ in susceptibility to predation before the time of first reproduction.  相似文献

The effect of sublethal exposure to copper on the diel activity of sea catfish, Arius felis, was examined after 72 h static exposure to copper (0.0, 0.05, 0.1, or 0.2 mg l–1 ). The locomotor behavior of 28 individual fish was electronically monitored in a 16-compartment rosette tank. Activity was quantified by the number of entries into compartments per hour. Controls and copper-exposed fish (0.05 mg l–1) behaved similarly after treatment and displayed no significant effects of handling or copper exposure on diel activity. However, fish exposed to 0.1 and 0.2 mg l–1 copper were hyperactive immediately following exposure; these fish had significantly greater numbers of entries into compartments per hour for entire 24-h monitoring periods (P < 0.01) and for the 12 h of photophase (P < 0.001) and of scotophase (P < 0.001) than fish in the other two experimental groups. The normal diel activity cycle was abolished. Additionally, exposure of fish to copper at 0.1 and 0.2 mg l–1 resulted in significantly less variability in activity (P < 0.05) compared to control fish and those exposed to 0.05 mg Cu l–1.  相似文献

Synchaeta kitina Rousselet reached population densities of up to 5000 ind.l–1 in Loch Leven, between January 1977 and December 1982. The species was found over the entire range of temperatures recorded (0.4–21.4 °C), but was most abundant at temperatures above 7 °C. Embryo development times, determined under laboratory conditions, ranged from 122 h at 2 °C to 12.5 h at 20 °C. There was a marked inverse relationship between populations of S. kitina and Daphnia hyalina var. lacustris in the loch. It seems unlikely that this was due to interference competition from Daphnia. S. kitina can be cultured on Rhodomonas minuta var. lacustris and there is some evidence that this rotifer also feeds on small flagellates in its natural environment.  相似文献

Biomass and production of plankton communities were investigated in two Chinese integrated fish culture ponds in August, Dianshanhu Pond (with high density of planktivorous carp) and Pingwang Pond (with low density of planktivorous carp). The plankton communities were composed of rotifers, protozoans, phytoplankton (<40 µm) and bacteria. The large phytoplankton (>40 µm), cladocerans and copepods were rare because of grazing pressure by the carp. The density or biomass of bacteria (1.93 × 107 and 2.20 × 107 cells ml–1 on average in Dianshanhu and Pingwang Ponds, respectively), picophytoplankton (24.6 and 18.5 mg m–3 Chla on average) and rotifers (5372 and 20733 ind. 1–1 on average) exceeded the maximum values reported for natural waters.The average [3H]thymidine uptake rates were 694 and 904 pmoles 1–1 h–1 (13.4 and 20.6 µgC 1–1) and the bacterial production by the >2 µm fraction amounted 21–28% of total [3H] thymidine uptake rate in both ponds. The mean chlorophylla concentrations were 59.1 and 183 mg m–3 in Dianshanhu and Pingwang Ponds, respectively. 82.4% and 65.3% of the total Chla was contributed by the <10 µm nano- and picophytoplankton in each pond, respectively. In particular, the picophytoplankton contribution amounted 41.2% of thtal Chla in Dianshanhu Pond. Primary production was 2.5 and 3.4 gC m–2 d–1 in each pond, respectively, and >50% of production was contributed by picophytoplankton. The mean biomasses of protozoa were 168 µg 1–1 and 445 µg 1–1 and those of rotifers were 763 µg 1–1 and 1186 µg 1–1 in Dianshanhu and Pingwang Ponds, respectively. The ecological efficiencies expressed in terms of the ratios of primary production to zooplankton production were 0.22 and 0.31, for the two ponds.  相似文献
