Myelin from adult rat brains was separated on a discontinuous sucrose gradient into three subfractions. Analysis of light, heavy and membrane fraction lipid classes was performed by HPTLC and densitometry while fatty acid composition was determinated by GLC. The more interesting results observed are: i) the membrane fraction resembles in its lipid and fatty acid composition other cell membranes (particulary oligodentrocytes); ii) light and heavy myelin are quite similar between them but the former has a higher content of sphingomyelin, a lower hydroxy/nohhydroxy cerebrosides ratio and a lower content of monoenoic fatty acids than the heavy subfraction. The results obtained could explain the different structures observed in each myelin subfraction since fatty acid composition, hydroxy fatty acids, sphingomyelin and cholesterol play a key role in the stability and structure of membranes.  相似文献

Summary In Paramecium cells Ca++-stimulated triggering of the exocytosis of secretory vesicles (trichocysts) was achieved by ionophores X-537 A or A 23187. Under triggering conditions electron dense deposits were present in some resting trichocysts and regularly in discharging trichocysts; upon subsequent fixation deposits occurred on the trichocyst membrane (on the inner side or within the membrane) and on the inner lamellar sheath from where deposits seemed to radiate into the secretory materials. Similar results were obtained with glutardialdehyde fixation alone which also triggers exocytosis but only at low concentrations. Element analysis by energy dispersive x-ray microanalysis ascertained the presence of Ca and P in deposits occurring in trichocysts. Those resting trichocysts which were devoid of deposits did not contain Ca or P enriched. Hence, an abrupt Ca++-influx into individual trichocysts just before exocytosis seems to be involved in the triggering mechanism, possibly in combination with the sudden activation of an ATPase systemlocalized at those sites of the trichocysts which primarily contain the deposits. When paramecia were treated only with Ca++ and then fixed with OsO4 plus oxalate or merely with glutardialdehyde, electron scattering deposits were formed also on the inner side of the cell membrane and within the ciliary shaft (but rarely in trichocysts). Deposits obtained on cilia (including ciliary granule plaques) also contained Ca, P and S. Cells contain osmiophilic calcium-storing vacuoles which were selectively rich in Ca and S but devoid of P.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung 1. In Form von Seegangscharakteristiken werden Meßergebnisse über mittlere und maximale Wellenhöhen sowie mittlere Perioden des Seegangs an vier Beobachtungs-stationen im Seegebiet der Piep (Deutsche Bucht) mitgeteilt.2. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, daß die Abhängigkeit der maximalen Wellenhöhen von der Windrichtung sehr ausgeprägt die Topographie des Beobachtungsortes widerspiegelt. Für die mittleren Wellenhöhen ist das nicht in gleichem Ausmaße der Fall, es gilt nur für einigermaßen frei zur See liegende Stationen.3. Als maximale Wellenhöhe bei WSW-Wind von Beaufort 10 an der Station Trischen ergab sich 3,2 m, bei Tertius, Scholloch und Tonne 16 2,8; 2,5 bzw. 2,4 m.
Wave measurements in the sea area of the Piep (German Bight)
In form of wave characteristics, results of measurements of mean and maximum wave heights as well as mean periods of the sea at four observation stations in the sea area of the Piep (German Bight) are presented. The results show a very strong dependence of the maximum wave heights upon the topography of the observatory position. In case of mean wave heights this dependence is not so strong for stations with near coast positions. At Beaufort 10, as maximum wave height at station Trischen 3.2 m resulted; at Tertius, Scholloch and Tonne 16 maxima were 2.8, 2.5 and 2.4 m, respectively.

Zusammenfassung In der Meerschweinchenzirbeldrüse lassen sich elektronenmikroskopisch helle und dunkle Pinealzellen sowie einzelne Gliazellen nachweisen. In den bei weitem überwiegenden hellen Pinealzellen zeichnet sich ein Teil der vesicle-crowned rodlets (VCR) durch lokale Auftreibungen aus. Von VCR deutlich abzugrenzen sind die vesicle-crowned balls (VCB). Erstmalig beschrieben wird das Vorkommen von sog. Zylindern, die als Vorstufen von VCB aufgefaßt werden. In den relativ seltenen dunklen Pinealzellen, die sich durch chromatinreiche Kerne und elektronendichtes Zytoplasma auszeichnen, sind Vesikel, VCR, VCB und Zylinder seltener als in hellen Pinealzellen. Die reichlich vorhandenen marklosen Nervenfasern finden sich vor allem in perivasculären Räumen, seltener im Parenchym. Synapsen zwischen Nerven und Pinealzellen wurden nicht beobachtet. In den Zirbeldrüsen trächtiger Meerschweinchen zeichnen sich in der 2. Hälfte der Tragzeit die hellen Pinealzellen durch stärkere Lappung der Kerne, gehäuftes Auftreten von laktiven Zonen, Vermehrung von Mitochondrien, glattem ER, agranulären Vesikeln, VCR, VCB und Zylindern aus. Die dunklen Pinealzellen nehmen während der Tragzeit an Zahl zu. Post partum bilden sich diese Veränderungen innerhalb einer Woche zurück. Längerer Aufenthalt der Tiere in Dunkelheit führt zu einer Aktivierung der hellen Pinealzellen mit auffallender Vermehrung der VCR und zu einer Zunahme der dunklen Zellen. Unter Dauerbelichtung kommt es in den hellen Zellen zu einer Abnahme fast aller Zellorganellen und zu einer starken Vermehrung der VCR, die nach 70 Tagen auch Formveränderungen aufweisen. Nach Reserpinbehandlung beobachtet man eine Verminderung und degenerative Veränderungen der VCR. Es wird diskutiert, daß die VCR als prae- bzw. postsynaptische Strukturen der Erregungsübertragung von Nerven zu Pinealzellen bzw. von Pinealzellen untereinander dienen könnten.
The fine structure of the pineal gland of normal, pregnant and experimentally affected guinea-pigs
Summary By means of electron microscopy light and dark pinealocytes can be distinguished in the guinea-pig pineal gland. Glial cells are rare. In the light pinealocyte. the most frequent cell type, some vesicle-crowned rodlets (VCR) show circumscribed thickenings. From these structures vesicle-crowned balls (VCB) have to be clearly distinguished. Furthermore cylinders occur, which, it is suggested, are precursors of VCB. Dark pinealocytes characterized by chromatin-rich nuclei and electron-dense cytoplasm are rare and contain fewer vesicles, VCR, VCB and cylinders than light pinealocytes. Numerous non-myelinated nerve fibres are situated within perivascular spaces, a few also in the parenchyma. Synapses between nerve fibres and pinealocytes were not observed. In the pineal gland of pregnant guinea-pigs the following changes can be observed in the second half of gestation. The light cells show many nuclear indentations and an increase of active zones, mitochondria, smooth ER, agranular vesicles, VCR, VCB, and cylinders respectively. The dark cells increase in number. After birth these changes reverse to normal within one week. Constant darkness leads to an activation of the light cells accompanied by an increase of the VCR and to an increase in number of the dark cells. Under constant illumination the light cells show a decrease of their organelles and a strong increase of the VCR. After 70 days the VCR also show a change in shape. Following reserpine treatment the VCR decrease in number and show signs of degeneration. It is discussed that the VCR function as pre- or postsynaptic structures and that they are involved either in transmitting impulses from nerve fibres to pinealocytes or from one pinealocyte to the other.

Competition of a number of progesterone 16,17-cycloalkane derivatives with 3H-labeled ligands for the binding sites of rat uterine progesterone receptor, uterine pentaranophilin, and blood serum pentaranophilin was studied. We found that the selective ligands for the progesterone receptor are progesterone, 16,17-cyclopropanoprogesterone, and 16,17-cyclopent-3-enoprogesterone and the selective ligands for serum pentaranophilin are 6-methyl-16,17-cyclohexanopregna-1,4-diene-3,20-dione and 3-hydroxy-16,17-cyclohexanopregn-5-en-20-one. No selective ligands for the uterine pentaranophilin were found. The majority of substituents in rings A, B, and D we studied decreased the affinity of ligands for all the three proteins. The substitution of the 5-3-hydroxy grouping for the 4-3-keto grouping exerted the strongest negative effect in the case of the progesterone receptor and the uterine pentaranophilin, whereas the introduction of the 3,4-dimethyl grouping strongly inhibited the ligand affinity for the uterine pentaranophilin. The extent and even the direction of the effect of a substituent on the affinity of ligands for the proteins substantially depended on the presence of other substituents in the steroid molecules. We hypothesized that a certain similarity exists between three proteins studied in respect to the structures of their ligand-binding pockets.  相似文献

In this response to the comments of Drs. Striefel and Glaros, we take issue with Dr. Striefel's assertion that the Declaration of Helsinki should not be regarded as a core ethical document, and demonstrate that his claim that the Declaration has no significance in or recognition by agencies of the United States Federal Government is in error. A reading of FDA and DHHS documents shows that the Declaration is not, as Dr. Striefel suggested, only an aspirational document, but also is clearly regarded as mandatory. Dr. Glaros' observations regarding the slippery concept of efficacy is very much on point, and we certainly agree with his call for more data. It is the means by which that can be accomplished that is problematic. We have suggested that the logic of placebo controls developed to render drug efficacy studies more rigorous and scientifically grounded does not translate well to many psychological and behavioral studies of efficacy. It is important for our discipline to rethink the standards by which new behavioral and psychological (including psychophysiological) interventions can be demonstrated to be efficacious. One possible approach that avoids ethical pitfalls and design impossibilities is the active control, which requires good demonstration of assay sensitivity. We hope that this discussion may stimulate further discussion about other approaches that do not depend upon the flawed placebo orthodoxy.  相似文献

Summary Voltage clamp studies show that the wild-type membrane ofParamecium tetraurelia contains a conductance component which is sensitive to hyperpolarization. This component manifests itself as anomalous, or inward going, rectification of membrane voltage in response to applied constant current pulses and as a hyperpolarizing spike when no K is added to the external solution (Y. Satow, C. Kung, 1977.J. Comp. Physiol. 11999). Like the conductances which underlie anomalous rectification in other cells, the hyperpolarization-sensitive conductance inParamecium is specific for K, and the magnitude of the voltage-dependent conductance change depends not only on voltage but also on external potassium concentration. The internal potassium ion concentration ofParamecium is calculated to be between 17 and 18mm.  相似文献

Summary The performance of the Learning Matrix (LM) is suitable for the design of adaptive networks of higher complexity. It has been published, how to connect a LM with a generator of patterns (binary or nonbinary) and a ring-counter to result in an automatic classification of the presented patterns. This paper describes, how to connect two LM's to form an Autonomous Learning Matrix Dipole (ALD) and how to organize it, so that it adapts itself to an environment according to a given evaluation scale. For this purpose, a third type of input (beside e and b), namely h seems to be useful. This h-input controls the rate of adaptation of the LM.Using such ALD's, one may design adaptive structures of even higher complexity, for example with an adaptive internal model.The principle of Learning Matrices has been explained in detail (see e.g. IEEE Transactions on Electronic Computers, Vol. EC-12, No. 6, December, 1963, pp. 846–862). Using such learning matrices (LM), one may build up adaptive networks with rather interesting functions. Perhaps they are interesting for the physiologist and psychologist as well as for the engineer. Let us first recall the most essential details of the LM's.
Zusammenfassung Die Funktion der Lernmatrix (LM) erlaubt den Entwurf adaptiver Netzwerke höherer Komplexität. Es wurde an anderer Stelle schon beschrieben, wie eine LM (binär oder nichtbinär) mit einem Generator für Eigenschaftssätze und einem Ringzähler zusammengeschaltet werden kann, um eine selbsttätige Klassifikation der angebotenen Eigenschaftssätze zu bewirken. Im vorliegenden Aufsatz wird erklärt, wie zwei LM so zusammengeschaltet werden können, dacß sich ein Autonomer Lernmatrix-Dipol (ALD) ergibt, und wie dieser zu organisieren ist, daß er sich einer gegebenen Außenwelt nach Maßgabe einer vorgegebenen Werteskala anpaßt. Zu diesem Zweck erweist sich außer den bisher beschriebenen beiden Zugangen zur LM (nämlich e und b) ein dritter sehr zweckmäßig, nämlich h. Dieser h-Eingang beeinflußt die Lerngeschwindigkeit der LM.Unter Verwendung solcher ALD's kann man adaptive Strukturen noch höherer Komplexität aufbauen, beispielsweise solche mit adaptivem innerem Modell.

A sub-adult grey seal was caught and tagged with a satellite relay data logger at Tihällan (61°2800N, 17°2540E), Sweden, on 21 August 1992. We tracked it for 115 days during which time we recorded 841 locations, data on 3556 dives and 80 haulout periods. It travelled 730 km in the first 12 days to the southern Archipelago Sea. It stayed most of the remaining time within 25 km of a haulout site, with a major exception of an 8-day trip of 520 km. Dive shape and swimming activity were used to distinguish dive types. Square-shaped foraging dives were more common over the midday period. Haulout periods were more common during the night.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung In der Einleitung ist das Ziel der Arbeit in den wesentlichsten Punkten herausgestellt.Die Bursastrukturen (Bursavelum und Rippen bzw. Papillen) der parasitischen Strongylina lassen sich von den entsprechenden Bildungen der freilebenden Rhabditina, vor allem der Gattung Rhabditis, ableiten und in ihren Einzelgliedern homologisieren.Die im Laufe der Phylogenie bei den Strongylina auftretenden strukturellen Transformationen lassen sich auf einige wenige, relativ einfache morphogenetische Grundvorgänge zurückführen, die da sind: Wachstumsallometrien, Materialkompensationen, Organverschmelzungen und Spaltungen (Fissationen), Rudimentationen und ähnliche Vorgänge.Innerhalb der Strongylina Bursa ist ein Gefälle der Wachstumsgradienten feststellbar, das sich vom Zentrum der Bursa sowohl nach distal als auch proximalwärts abschwdcht. Zunehmende Förderung der zentral gelegenen Organe (Rippen) führt zu entsprechender Reduktion der peripheren Bursastrukturen, was vor allem im terminalen Schwanzabschnitt auffällt und zur Ausbildung des oft nur noch als Rudiment vorhandenen Dorsalrippenkomplexes führt. Letzterer entspricht in seiner Gesamtheit der Schwanzspitze der peloderen Rhabditiden mit den Papillen 9 und 10.Die bei Rhabditis moist getrennten Papillen 7 und 8 sind bei allen Strongylina zu einer Rippe (Externodorsal-Rippe) verschmolzen, die jedoch in manchen Aberrationen durch Abspaltung eines akzessorischen Astes ihre wahre Natur (als Verschmelzungsprodukt) zu erkennen gibt (Atavismus).Da dieselben Transformationsvorgänge innerhalb der Strongylina mehrfach unabhängig voneinander wirksam geworden sind, treten bestimmte Strukturformen als Parallelbildungen in verschiedenen phylogenetischen Union auf (polytope Entstehung).Zahlreich untersuchte Bildungsabweichungen (Aberrationen), deren Bedeutung für die Morphologie kurz umrissen wird, erschöpfen sich in den gleichen strukturellen Transformationstypen, die auch bei der Evolution der verschiedenen Union der Strongylina nachweisbar sind. Die Aberrationen führen daher häufig zu Atavismen oder zu Parallelvariationen (homologe Variationen").Die Zahl der Umwandlungsmbglichkeiten (Potenzen) der Bursastrukturen innerhalb der Strongylina ist beschränkt (Paripotenz im Sinne Haeckers). Bestimmte Arten (und Entwicklungshnien) haben jeweils nur bestimmte Potenzen realisiert. Andere können jedoch latent (virtuell) im Kryptotypus vorhanden sein, ohne normalerweise in Erscheinung. zu treten. In bestimmten Aberrationen können sie jedoch plötzlich realisiert werden, so ihr latentes Vorhandensein demonstrierend (Pluripotenz).Wie lange bestimmte Potenzen in einer Gruppe erhalten bleiben konnen, verdeutlichen auch die Schwanzhocker weiblicher Nematoden, als zum Bauplan der Nematoden gehbrende Bildungen. Die Potenz zur Ausbildung dieser Strukturen kommt offensichtlich sehr vielen Nematoden-Arten zu, wird jedoch nur in relativ wenigen Fällen, aber innerhalb der verschiedenen Gruppen bald hier, bald dort (disjunkte Verbreitung), realisiert. Es handelt sich bei den Schwanzhöckern um rudimentäre Organe, die bei keiner Nematoden-Art mehr voll ausgebildet erhalten sind. Ihre Rudimentation beruht zum Teil auf Materialentzug, als Folge von Unkonstruktionen der Schwanzregion, wobei die Adultstadien zuerst betroffen werden (Aphanisie nach Sewertzoff).Bei den in Chiropteren parasitierenden Strongylacanthinae haben sich Schwanzhöcker noch bei allen Arten erhalten, was ein offensichtlich archaisches Merkmal darstellt. Bei anderen Nematoden, denen sie nur im Larvalstadium zukommen, treten sie wohl durch Fötalisation in seltenen Fällen auch bei den adulten Stadien wieder auf.Alle speziellen Bursaformen der Strongylina lassen sich durch relativ wenige und einfache Transformationsvorgänge aus einem durch Abstraktion gewonnenen diagrammatischen Typus ableiten (Prinzip der variablen Proportionen" nach Troll).Die typisierten Umwandlungsvorgänge decken sich weitgehend mit den von Remane allgemein gefaßten strukturellen Typen der Realmutationen. Da sie bei den beobachteten Aberrationen, deren Entstehung auf dem Wege über Realmutationen sehr wahrscheinlich ist, in homologer Weise auftreten, kann das innerhalb der Strongylina zu beobachtende Evolutionsphänomen auf Realmutationen zurückgeführt warden.Obwohl sich die untersuchten strukturellen Transformationen in dem systematisch relativ wait gefaßten Rahmen einer Unterordnung abspielen (transspezifische Evolution nach Rensch), handelt es sich bei der von uns bevorzugten Terminologie (nach Woltereck und Remane), unter Berücksichtigung des Charakters der Umwandlungen, doch nur um Vorgänge, die in den Bereich der Mikroevolution fallen.  相似文献

Summary Fundamentally, theoretically, there is only one process underlying genetic and cultural evolution: natural selection. Organism fitness-enhancement (adaptive significance) is one of its practical mechanisms; group formation and maintenance is another, often but not always through fitness-enhancement; and need-fulfillment is still another. If Durham can accept that formulation, and switch from organism-thinking to instruction-thinking (Cloak, 1975: 178), he will free himself from two handicaps: First, he can forget his worries about reductionism and determinism (1976a: 100, 101). Under this general theory of natural selection, cultural evolutionis biological evolution, continued by other (nongenetic) means. Second, he will spare himself the appearance of anthropomorphism, mentalism, and wishy-washiness attendant on his discussion of kinds of significance, other than adaptive significance, of cultural behaviors (1976a: 102–106, 115).  相似文献

As culture-bound syndromes, Japanese shinkeishitsu (constitutional neurasthenia) and taijinkyfush (anthropophobia) have received considerable attention in the Japanese literature. While these disorders are viewed as diagnostically distinct from Western psychiatric categories, recent studies by the Japanese suggest some affinity with Western social phobias, depression, and schizophrenia. The paper reviews this literature and offers suggestions for further cross-cultural research.This paper was accepted for publication prior to the compilation of Volume 13, No. 2, Neurasthenia in Asian Cultures. Consequently it does not refer to the papers in that volume, several of which are very relevant to the discussion in this paper.  相似文献

The potential for cadmium to produce sensory deficits in the mechanosensory lateral line and olfactory systems was examined in migratory Galaxias fasciatus juveniles or whitebait. Using a two-choice chamber apparatus, three groups of whitebait were tested for a known attraction to adult pheromones and then exposed to either 0.1, 0.5 or 1g Cd+2 l-1 for 48h and retested. The attraction to adult pheromones had been eliminated after exposure to concentrations of 0.5 and 1g Cd+2 l-1, indicating these levels of cadmium exposure had impaired olfactory function. Rheotaxis trials were conducted to determine the level of cadmium exposure which would inhibit lateral line function. The lateral line system was not blocked until a concentration of 2g Cd+2 l-1. The blocking of the lateral line and olfactory sensory systems was reversible. After 14 days recovery in clean freshwater both rheotaxis and the attraction to adult pheromones had returned. Whitebait were also tested for a preference/avoidance response at 2g Cd+2 l-1. Fish showed neither a preference for, or an avoidance of, a concentration which would disable both the lateral line and olfactory sensory systems. The disabling of these sensory systems may render migratory cues undetectable, affecting habitat selection by whitebait, which may ultimately affect the distribution of banded kokopu populations.  相似文献

On the basis of symposium contributions onChlorella, Hibbertia, Eucalyptus, Ambrosia and on numerical approaches some fundamental problems of (bio)systematics, evolution, and taxonomic categories are discussed: Methods available for analysing affinities; conflicting evidence from phenetic, biochemical, cytogenetic and other analyses; further classification problems in cases of intermediacy, etc. While sibs of various levels and their natural hierarchy often can be objectively defined, this appears impossible for particular taxonomic levels itself (e. g. species). A single objective taxonomic system of organisms is unrealistic. This communication describes a model for two pacemaker (i.e., regularly firing) nerve cells, such that one elicits IPSP's in the other. The assumptions involve essentially a linear dependence (delay function) of the postsynaptic interval lengthening (or delay) produced by the IPSP's on the position (or phase) with respect to the preceding spike of the latter's arrival. When the number of IPSP's in an interval increases, both the slope and intercept of the delay function increase, the former remaining under 2 and the latter unboundedly. Assumptions are more or less close to the actual biological reality, or are made for convenience. A recurrence equation for the phase can be calculated, as well as an expression for the locking phase (see below). Plots of postsynaptic vs presynaptic firing intensity averaged over steady conditions, e.g. of mean rates or intervals, are formed by a sequence of relatively broadparadoxical segments exhibiting positive slopes 1, 2, 1/2, 3, 1/3, ..., indicating that inhibited discharges are made more intense by those increases in inhibitory arrivals. These segments are separated by narrower intercalated segments where behavior is unclear except for a large overall negative slope, indicating that inhibited discharges are weakened markedly by other increases in inhibitory arrivals. Across the successive paradoxical segments that correspond to more and more intense presynaptic discharges (i.e., to higher rates or shorter intervals), postsynaptic intensities, though overlapping in part, become weaker and weaker. At the extremes, when the presynaptic discharge is very weak, or very intense, the postsynaptic cell tends to its natural undisturbed firing, or to not firing at all, respectively. The pre- and postsynaptic discharges inevitably achieve eventually an invariant relation, i.e., will lock at a constant phase, regardless of the phase of the first IPSP arrival. The characteristics of this behavior (e.g., the rate bounds of the paradoxical segments, or the magnitude of the locked phase) depend on such givens as presynaptic and postsynaptic pacemaker rates or intervals, and as the slope or intercept of the delay function.  相似文献

Biology cannot accommodate all aspects of culture. Aspects of culture that a biological approach can take into account can be covered by the biological categories of phenotype and environment. There is no need to treat culture as a separate category. Attempts to elaborate biological explanations of cultural variation will meet with success only if biologists expand theories of development, and integrate them in evolutionary biology. The alternative — elaborating the idea of so-called cultural inheritance — makes little sense from a biological point of view.  相似文献

Summary Detailed restriction enzyme analysis of the DNA from a Chinese female showed that one of her chromosomes had a >17.5 kb deletion of DNA, including the , 2, and 1 globin genes, which is present in many Southeast Asians with an -thalassemia-1 chromosome. Her normal chromosome had the expected cluster of -like globin genes (5----2-1-3), but the segment of DNA between the two globin genes was elongated by some 0.5–0.7 kb. Analyses of various restriction sites suggested that this normal variant of the human globin gene complex is due to a crossover between a normal chromosome with () and a chromosome with an -thalassemia-2 (–3.7) and an -21-hybrid gene.  相似文献

Summary On t.l.c. plates 125I-cholera toxin binds to a disialoganglioside tentatively identified as GDlb with about 10 times less capacity than to ganglioside GM1. Binding of labeled toxin to both gangliosides was abolished in presence of excess amounts of unlabeled B subunit. Ganglioside extracts from human or pig intestinal mucosa showed toxin binding to gangliosides GM1 and GD1b. The properties of the -2-l-fucosyltransferases in submaxillary gland preparations from blood group ABH secrefors and non-secretors were compared. The level of activity in the non-secretor gland homogenates amounted to about 5% only of that found in the secretor gland preparations. The enzymes from the two sources differed in solubility properties, charge and affinities for donor and acceptor substrates. The enzyme from secretor glands showed a preference for acceptors with Type 1 [d-galactosyl(1–3)-N-acetyl-d-glucosamine] structures whereas the enzyme from non-secretor glands had a preference for Type 2 [d-galactosyl(1–4)-N-acetyl-d-glucosamine] structures.These results demonstrate that expression of the secretor gene (Se) is associated with a molecular form of the -2-l-fucosyltransferase that is different from the species present in the same tissue when theSe gene is not expressed.  相似文献

The dysfunctional consequences of the Cartesian dichotomy have been enhanced by the power of biomedical technology. Technical virtuosity reifies the mechanical model and widens the gap between what patients seek and doctors provide.Patients suffer illnesses; doctors diagnose and treat diseases. Illnesses are experiences of discontinuities in states of being and perceived role performances. Diseases, in the scientific paradigm of modern medicine, are abnormalities in the function and/or structure of body organs and systems. Traditional healers also redefine illness as disease: because they share symbols and metaphors consonant with lay beliefs, their healing rituals are more responsive to the psychosocial context of illness.Psychiatric disorders offer an illuminating perspective on the basic medical dilemma. The paradigms for psychiatric practice include multiple and ostensibly contradictory models: organic, psychodynamic, behavioural and social. This melange of concepts stems from the fact that the fundamental manifestations of psychosis are disordered behaviours. The psychotic patient remains a person; his self-concept and relationships with others are central to the therapeutic encounter, whatever pharmacological adjuncts are employed.The same truths hold for all patients. The social matrix determines when and how the patient seeks what kind of help, his compliance with the recommended regimen and, to a significant extent, the functional outcome. When physicians dismiss illness because ascertainable disease is absent, they fail to meet their socially assigned responsibility.
