Infection of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) with its endemicNeotyphodium coenophialum-endophyte (Morgan-Jones and Gams) Glenn, Bacon and Hanlin appears to reduce copper (Cu) concentrations in forage and serum of grazing animals, contributing to a range of immune-related disorders. A greenhouse experiment was conducted to identify effects of novel endophyte strains on Cu acquisition by tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) varieties Grasslands Flecha and Jesup infected with a novel, non ergot producing endophyte strain AR542, and two perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) varieties Aries and Quartet infected with a novel, non lolitrem B producing strain AR1, and their noninfected (E−) forms. Individual endophyte/grass associations were cultivated in nutrient solutions at 1.0 (P+) and 0.0 mM (P−) phosphorus concentrations. The Cu2+-binding activity of extracellular root exudates, and concentrations of Cu and other heavy metals in roots and shoots were measured. Extracellular root exudates of AR542-infected vs. E− tall fescue had higher Cu2+-binding activity only in P− nutrient solution as shown by lower concentration of free Cu2+ (0.096 vs. 0.188 mmol Cu2+ g−1 root DM, respectively). The Cu2+-binding activity by root exudates of perennial ryegrass was not affected by endophyte infection, but was higher (i.e., lower concentration of free Cu2+) in P− vs. P+ nutrient solution (0.068 vs. 0.114 mmol Cu2+ g−1 root DM). In this hydroponic experiment, Cu concentrations in shoots of both grasses were not a function of Cu2+-binding activity and endophyte effects on heavy metal concentrations in shoots and roots were specific for each variety. The Cu2+-binding activity of extracellular root exudates may affect Cu accumulation by field-grown, endophyte-infected tall fescue under P-limiting growth conditions and warrants verification by more specific methods.  相似文献

Seedlings of spring barley, meadow fescue, and winter rape were fumigated with 180 μg kg−1 of ozone for 12 d, and effect of O3 on photosynthesis and cell membrane permeability of fumigated plants was determined. Electrolyte leakage and chlorophyll fluorescence were measured after 6, 9, and 12 d of fumigation, while net photosynthetic rate (P N) and stomatal conductance (g s) were measured 9 d after the start of ozone exposure. O3 treatment did not change membrane permeability in fescue and barley leaves, while in rape a significant decrease in ion leakage was noted within the whole experiment. O3 did not change the photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2 (PS2), i.e., Fv/Fm, and the initial fluorescence (F0). The values of half-rise time (t1/2) from F0 to maximal fluorescence (Fm) decreased in fescue and barley after 6 and 9 d of fumigation. P N decreased significantly in ozonated plants, in the three species. The greatest decrease in P N was observed in ozonated barley plants (17 % of the control). The ozone-induced decrease in P N was due to the closure of stomata. Rape was more resistant to ozone than fescue or barley. Apparently, the rape plants show a large adaptation to ozone and prevent loss of membrane integrity leading to ion leakage. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Photosynthetic parameters, growth, and pigment contents were determined during expansion of the fourth leaf of in vitro photoautotrophically cultured Nicotiana tabacum L. plants at three irradiances [photosynthetically active radiation (400–700 nm): low, LI 60 μmol m−2 s−1; middle, MI 180 μmol m−2 s−1; and high, HI 270 μmol m−2 s−1]. During leaf expansion, several symptoms usually accompanying leaf senescence appeared very early in HI and then in MI plants. Symptoms of senescence in developing leaves were: decreasing chlorophyll (Chl) a+b content and Chl a/b ratio, decreasing both maximum (FV/FM) and actual (ΦPS2) photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2, and increasing non-photochemical quenching. Nevertheless, net photosynthetic oxygen evolution rate (P N) did not decrease consistently with decrease in Chl content, but exhibited a typical ontogenetic course with gradual increase. P N reached its maximum before full leaf expansion and then tended to decline. Thus excess irradiance during in vitro cultivation did not cause early start of leaf senescence, but impaired photosynthetic performance and Chl content in leaves and changed their typical ontogenetic course.  相似文献

Rehmannia glutinosa seedlings were pretreated with choline chloride (CC) in concentrations of 0, 0.7, 2.1 and 3.5 mM, and then subjected to drought and rewatering treatment to study the effects of CC on the generation of reactive oxygen species (O2, H2O2), lipid peroxidation, proline accumulation, water status and photosynthesis. The results showed that pretreatment with CC alleviated the inhibition of SOD and APX activity caused by drought stress, and therefore, the rate of O2 production and H2O2 concentration were reduced and lipid peroxidation decreased in pretreated plants. CC pretreatment also accelerated accumulation of proline, maintained higher Ψw and RWC, deferred leaf water loss during drought stress and retarded the drop in proline concentration after rewatering. Consequently, drought-induced decreases in Fm/F0, Fv/Fm, ΦPS2, qP, and A and increase in qNP were inhibited and the recovery of photosynthesis after rewatering was quicker in pretreated plants. Although differences in Fv/Fm, ΦPS2 and qP between treatments were not significant, there was a general trend that the effects of CC increased with the rise of its concentrations. The data suggested that 2.1 mM of CC be suitable for alleviating lipid peroxidation, promoting proline accumulation, retarding leaf water loss and improving photosynthesis of R. glutinosa seedlings under drought stress.  相似文献

Neotyphodium endophytes are asexual, seed-borne fungal symbionts that are thought to interact mutualistically with their grass hosts. Benefits include increased growth, reproduction, and resistance to herbivores via endophytic alkaloids. Although these benefits are well established in infected introduced, agronomic grasses, little is known about the cost and benefits of endophyte infection in native grass populations. These populations exist as mosaics of uninfected and infected plants, with the latter often comprised of plants that vary widely in alkaloid content. We tested the costs and benefits of endophyte infections with varying alkaloids in the native grass Achnatherum robustum (sleepygrass). We conducted a 4-year field experiment, where herbivory and water availability were controlled and survival, growth, and reproduction of three maternal plant genotypes [uninfected plants (E−), infected plants with high levels of ergot alkaloids (E+A+), and infected plants with no alkaloids (E+A−)] were monitored over three growing seasons. Generally, E+A+ plants had reduced growth over the three growing seasons and lower seed production than E− or E+A− plants, suggesting a cost of alkaloid production. The reduction in vegetative biomass in E+A+ plants was most pronounced under supplemented water, contrary to the prediction that additional resources would offset the cost of alkaloid production. Also, E+A+ plants showed no advantage in growth, seed production, or reproductive effort under full herbivory relative to E− or E+A− grasses, contrary to the predictions of the defensive mutualism hypothesis. However, E+A+ plants had higher overwintering survival than E+A− plants in early plant ontogeny, suggesting that alkaloids associated with infection may protect against below ground herbivory or harsh winter conditions. Our results suggest that the mosaic of E−, E+A+, and E+A− plants observed in nature may result from varying biotic and abiotic selective factors that maintain the presence of uninfected plants and infected plants that vary in alkaloid production.  相似文献

Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) is a cool-season grass species that is often infected by the leaf-inhabiting endophyte Neotyphodium lolii. This particular endophyte is asexual and has the potential to impact host survival, growth and reproduction. The objective was to assess the potential costs or benefits of endophyte infection on drought stress tolerance of native perennial ryegrass accessions originally collected from Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, and Turkey. Sixty infected (E+) individuals from each accession were planted in a greenhouse. Half of these individuals were treated with a systemic fungicide to eliminate the endophyte (E−). For two drought periods water was withheld for 10-14 days and then allowed a one week recovery period following each. In some accessions under drought, E+ plants had more tillers, greater tiller lengths, total dry mass and green shoot mass than E− plants, suggesting a positive effect of endophyte infection on host growth. Total tiller length and the number of tillers showed significant population × treatment × infection interactions for 4 of 6 populations. This work is one of the few that documents the effects of endophyte infection for a common forage grass species from wild populations native to its distributional range. The results demonstrate that endophyte infection can help ameliorate abiotic stress such as drought and there may be a selective advantage for grasses from certain Mediterranean regions.  相似文献

Neotyphodium endophytes are assumed to have mutualistic relationship with their grass hosts, mainly resulting from mycotoxin production increasing plant resistance to herbivores by the fungus that subsists on the plant. To study importance of often ignored environmental effects on these associations, we performed a greenhouse experiment to examine the significance of endophyte infection and nutrient availability for bird-cherry aphid (Rhopalosiphum padi) performance on meadow fescue (Lolium pratense). Naturally endophyte-infected (E+), uninfected (E–), or manipulatively endophyte-free (ME–) half-sib families of meadow fescue were grown on two soil nutrient levels. Endophyte infection reduced aphid performance in general. However, to our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate experimentally that herbivore performance decreases on E+ host plants with increasing availability of nutrients in soils. Potential improvement in herbivore performance in high nutrient soils and decreased plant performance in low nutrient soils in ME– plants, compared to E– and E+ plants, suggests that loss of endophyte infection after long coevolutionary relationship may be critical to plant fitness.  相似文献

The goal of our study was to investigate the impact of fungal endophytes in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) on rhizodeposition and in turn, the soil microbial community. Sand-based, aseptic microlysimeter units were constructed for the collection of rhizodeposit solutions for chemical analyses from the roots of endophyte-free (E−) and endophyte-infected (E+) tall fescue plants. E+ plants were infected with Neotyphodium coenophialum, the most common endophyte found in tall fescue. Rhizodeposit solutions collected over nine weeks from E+ grass contained more organic carbon and carbohydrates than E−. These solutions were allowed to percolate through columns of plant-free soils to assess the response of the soil microbial communities. Soils to which solutions from E+ grass were applied had significantly higher respiration rates than those receiving solutions from E− grass, suggesting that microbial activity was stimulated by changes in the rhizodeposits. Culture-based assays of the soil microbial community (plate counts and community-level physiological profiling) suggest that the basic structure of the microbial community was not affected by application of rhizodeposit solutions from E+ plants as compared to E−. Our results indicate that the presence of a fungal endophyte may enhance rhizodeposition by tall fescue and could consequently influence microbial mineralization processes in the soil. In grasslands where nutrients may be limiting, hosting a fungal endophyte has the potential to enhance plant nutrient supply indirectly via a stimulatory effect on the soil microbial biomass. Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Jingdong 8) was exposed to short-term high ozone treatment after anthesis and then was either well irrigated with soil water content (SWC) of 80–85 % (O3+W) or drought treated (SWC 35–40 %, O3+D). Short-term ozone exposure significantly decreased irradiance-saturated net photosynthetic rate (P N) of winter wheat. Under good SWC, P N of the O3-treated plant was similar to that of control on 2 d after O3-exposure (6 DAA), but decreased significantly after 13 DAA, indicating that O3 exposure accelerated leaf senescence. Meanwhile, green flag leaf area was reduced faster than that of control. As a result, grain yield of O3+W was significantly decreased. P N of O3+D was further notably decreased and green flag leaf area was reduced more than that in O3+W. Consequently, substantial yield loss of O3+D was observed compared to that of O3+W. Although P N was significantly positively correlated with stomatal conductance, it also had notable positive correlation with the maximum photochemical efficiency in the dark adapted leaves (Fv/Fm), electron transport rate (ETR), photochemical quenching (qP), as well as content of chlorophyll, suggesting that the depression of P N was mainly caused by non-stomatal limitation. Hence optimal soil water condition should be considered in order to reduce the yield loss caused by O3 pollution.  相似文献

In order to study the responses of winter wheat cultivars released in different years to short-term high O3 exposure, an old cultivar (‘Nongda 311’, released in 1960s) and a modern one (‘Yannong 19’, released in 1990s) were treated with an O3 exposure (145 ± 12 mm3 m−3, 4 h d−1 for 3 d) shortly after anthesis stage (> 50 % main stems blossomed). During the O3 exposure, light-saturated photosynthetic rate (P N) and stomatal conductance (g s) of both cultivars decreased considerably. Elevated O3 did not decrease dark-adapted maximum photochemical efficiency, but induced significant reduction in actual photochemical efficiency and thereby considerably increase in non-photochemical quenching. P N, g s of the modern cultivar ‘Yannong 19’ decreased more than the older one ‘Nongda 311’, indicating the former exhibited higher sensitivity to O3 than the latter. After O3 exposure, P N, g s and chlorophyll (Chl) content in flag leaf decreased more quickly than control, indicating induction of faster premature leaf senescence. As a result, the short-term O3 exposure caused substantial yield loss, with larger reduction in ‘Yannong 19’ (−19.2 %) than in ‘Nongda 311’ (−8.4 %). Our results indicated that high O3 exposure at grain filling stage would have greater negative impacts on the high yielding modern cultivar relative to the old one with lower yield.  相似文献

Net photosynthetic rate (P N) of tobacco plants grown with NH4-N as the only N source was the lowest all the times, while P N grown only with NO3-N was the greatest until 22nd day, and P N grown with both NO3-N and NH4-N (1 : 1) was the greatest. Maximal photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2 (PS2), Fv/Fm, and actual quantum yield of PS2 under actinic irradiation (ΦPS2) in plants grown with only NH4-N were greatest at early stage and then decreased and were smaller than those of other treatments. Photochemical quenching coefficient (qP) and non-photochemical quenching coefficient (qNP) in the NH4-N plants were the greatest at all times. Hence excessive NH4-N can decrease not only photochemical efficiency but also the efficiency of utilization of photon energy absorbed by pigments for photosynthesis. Therefore, excessive NH4-N is a hindrance to photosynthesis of flue-cured tobacco. On the other hand, tobacco cultured with an appropriate mixture of NO3-N with NH4-N can sufficiently utilize photon energy and increase the efficiency of energy transformation.  相似文献

Asexual, seedborne endophytic fungi in perennial grasses are often viewed as strong mutualists because fitness of the symbiont and host grass are closely coupled. However, at least for some native grasses, the asexual endophyte, Neotyphodium, acts parasitically, yet remains at high frequencies in natural populations. Most previous studies of Neotyphodium effects on host survival have been short term relative to the long life span of the perennial grass host. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Neotyphodium alters the survival in various life stages and long-term survival of adult native Arizona fescue (Festuca arizonica). To test the former, we planted 40 infected (E+) and 40 uninfected (E−, endophyte removed) seeds from four different maternal plants in the field under ambient conditions. We followed survival of seeds, seedlings, and adult plants over a 5-year period. To test the latter, we determined the infection of 1633 adult plants and followed their survival over the next 5–7 years. E+ seeds did not differ from uninfected seeds in terms of overall survival from seed germination to seedling to adult. However, the shape of the survival curve differed, with E+ plants showing higher mortality in early life stages. E+ adult plants did not differ from E− plants in long-term survival. Survival was generally very high during the study, which included a severe and prolonged drought. Infection by asexual Neotyphodium does not increase survival in early life stages or that of adult plants. Because asexual, vertically transmitted symbionts are predicted by evolutionary theory to be strong mutualists, the persistence of high infection frequencies in natural populations without long-term benefits to the host remains enigmatic. One possible explanation is that the long life span of the perennial host and low seedling recruitment may obscure either the costs or benefits of endophyte infection.  相似文献

This contribution is a practical guide to the measurement of the different chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence parameters and gives examples of their development under high-irradiance stress. From the Chl fluorescence induction kinetics upon irradiation of dark-adapted leaves, measured with the PAM fluorometer, various Chl fluorescence parameters, ratios, and quenching coefficients can be determined, which provide information on the functionality of the photosystem 2 (PS2) and the photosynthetic apparatus. These are the parameters Fv, Fm, F0, Fm′, Fv′, NF, and ΔF, the Chl fluorescence ratios Fv/Fm, Fv/F0, ΔF/Fm′, as well as the photochemical (qP) and non-photochemical quenching coefficients (qN, qCN, and NPQ). qN consists of three components (qN = qE + qT + qI), the contribution of which can be determined via Chl fluorescence relaxation kinetics measured in the dark period after the induction kinetics. The above Chl fluorescence parameters and ratios, many of which are measured in the dark-adapted state of leaves, primarily provide information on the functionality of PS2. In fully developed green and dark-green leaves these Chl fluorescence parameters, measured at the upper adaxial leaf side, only reflect the Chl fluorescence of a small portion of the leaf chloroplasts of the green palisade parenchyma cells at the upper outer leaf half. Thus, PAM fluorometer measurements have to be performed at both leaf sides to obtain information on all chloroplasts of the whole leaf. Combined high irradiance (HI) and heat stress, applied at the upper leaf side, strongly reduced the quantum yield of the photochemical energy conversion at the upper leaf half to nearly zero, whereas the Chl fluorescence signals measured at the lower leaf side were not or only little affected. During this HL-stress treatment, qN, qCN, and NPQ increased in both leaf sides, but to a much higher extent at the lower compared to the upper leaf side. qN was the best indicator for non-photochemical quenching even during a stronger HL-stress, whereas qCN and NPQ decreased with progressive stress even though non-photochemical quenching still continued. It is strongly recommended to determine, in addition to the classical fluorescence parameters, via the PAM fluorometer also the Chl fluorescence decrease ratio RFd (Fd/Fs), which, when measured at saturation irradiance is directly correlated to the net CO2 assimilation rate (P N) of leaves. This RFd-ratio can be determined from the Chl fluorescence induction kinetics measured with the PAM fluorometer using continuous saturating light (cSL) during 4–5 min. As the RFd-values are fast measurable indicators correlating with the photosynthetic activity of whole leaves, they should always be determined via the PAM fluorometer parallel to the other Chl fluorescence coefficients and ratios.  相似文献

The effect of high irradiance (HI, photosynthetically active photon flux density of 1 300 μmol m−2 s−1) on net photosynthetic rate (P N), chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, and xanthophyll cycle components were studied in fruit tree bayberry leaves. HI induced the photoinhibition and inactivation of photosystem 2 (PS2) reaction centres (RCs), which was characterized by decreased P N, maximum yield of fluorescence after dark adaptation (Fm), photochemical efficiency of PS2 (Fv/Fm) and quantum yield of PS2 (ΦPS2), and increased reduction state of QA (1-qP) and non-photochemical quenching (NPQ). Initial fluorescence (F0) showed a decrease after the first 2 h, and subsequently increased from the third hour exposure to HI. Furthermore, a greater increase in the ratio (Fi-F0)/(Fp-F0) which is an expression of the proportion of the QB non-reducing PS2 centres, whereas a remarked decrease in the slope of Fi to Fp which represents the rate of QA reduction was observed in leaves after HI exposure. Additionally, HI caused an increase in the pool size of the xanthophyll cycle pigments and sustained elevated contents of zeaxanthin (Z), antheraxanthin (A), and de-epoxidation state (DES) at the end of the irradiation period. During HI, decreased Fm, Fv/Fm, ΦPS2, NPQ, slope of Fi to Fp, V+A+Z, and DES, and increased F0, 1-qP, ratio (Fi-F0)/(Fp-F0), and V were observed in dithiothreitol (DTT)-fed leaves compared to control ones under the same conditions. Hence photoinhibition caused by HI in bayberry was probably attributed to inactivation of PS2 RCs, and photoprotection from photodamage were mainly related to the xanthophyll cycle-dependent heat dissipation in excess photons.  相似文献

Six months old in vitro-grown Anoectochilus formosanus plantlets were transferred to ex-vitro acclimation under low irradiance, LI [60 μmol(photon) m−2 s−1], intermediate irradiance, II [180 μmol(photon) m−2 s−1], and high irradiance, HI [300 μmol(photon) m−2 s−1] for 30 d. Imposition of II led to a significant increase of chlorophyll (Chl) b content, rates of net photosynthesis (P N) and transpiration (E), stomatal conductance (g s), electron transfer rate (ETR), quantum yield of electron transport from water through photosystem 2 (ΦPS2), and activity of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/ oxygenase (RuBPCO, EC 4.1.1.39). This indicates that Anoectochilus was better acclimated at II compared to LI treatment. On the other hand, HI acclimation led to a significant reduction of Chl a and b, P N, E, g s, photochemical quenching, dark-adapted quantum efficiency of open PS2 centres (Fv/Fm), probability of an absorbed photon reaching an open PS2 reaction centre (Fv′/Fm′), ETR, ΦPS2, and energy efficiency of CO2 fixation (ΦCO2PS2). This indicates that HI treatment considerably exceeded the photo-protective capacity and Anoectochilus suffered HI induced damage to the photosynthetic apparatus. Imposition of HI significantly increased the contents of antheraxanthin and zeaxanthin (ZEA), non-photochemical quenching, and conversion of violaxanthin to ZEA. Thus Anoectochilus modifies its system to dissipate excess excitation energy and to protect the photosynthetic machinery.  相似文献

Primary leaves of young plants of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris cv. Carioca and Negro Huasteco) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata Walp cv. Epace 10) were exposed to high irradiance (HI) of 2 000 μmol m−2 s−1 for 10, 20, and 30 min. The initial fluorescence (F0) was nearly constant in response to HI in each genotype except for Carioca. A distinct reduction of maximum fluorescence (Fm) was clearly observed in stressed genotypes of beans after 20 min followed by a slight recovery for the longer stress times. In common bean, the maximum quantum yield (Fv/Fm) was reduced slowly from 10 to 30 min of HI. In cowpea, only a slight reduction of Fv/Fm was observed at 20 min followed by recovery to normal values at 30 min. HI resulted in changes in the photochemical (qP) and non-photochemical (qN) quenching in both species, but to a different extent. In cowpea plants, more efficiency in the use of the absorbed energy under photoinhibitory conditions was related to increase in qP and decrease in qN. In addition, lipid peroxidation changed significantly in common bean genotypes with an evident increase after 20 min of HI. Hence the photosynthetic apparatus of cowpea was more tolerant to HI than that of common bean and the integrity of cowpea cell membranes was apparently maintained under HI.  相似文献

Growth, photosynthetic gas exchange, and chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics were investigated in wild type (WT) and Cd-sensitive mutant rice (Oryza sativa L.) plants using 50 μM Cd treatment for 12 d followed by a 3-d recovery. Under Cd stress, net dry mass and pigment contents were significantly lower in the mutant plants than in the WT. The mutant had lower net photosynthetic rate (P N), transpiration rate (E), and stomatal conductance (g s) than WT rice, however, it had higher intercellular CO2 concentration (C i), indicating that non-stomatal factors accounted for the inhibition of P N. Maximal photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2 (Fv/Fm), effective quantum yield of PS2 (ΦPS2), and photochemical quenching (qP) decreased much in the mutant under Cd stress. Cd content in roots and leaves of the mutant was significantly higher than those in the WT. Hence Cd toxicity was associated with the marked increases in Cd contents of plant tissue. After the recovery for 3 d, the WT rice had higher capacity to recover from Cd injury than the mutant.  相似文献

Cultivating dinitrogen-fixing legume trees with crops in agroforestry is a relatively common N management practice in the Neotropics. The objective of this study was to assess the N2 fixation potential of three important Neotropical agroforestry tree species, Erythrina poeppigiana, Erythrina fusca, and Inga edulis, under semi-controlled field conditions. The study was conducted in the humid tropical climate of the Caribbean coastal plain of Costa Rica. In 2002, seedlings of I. edulis and Vochysia guatemalensis were planted in one-meter-deep open-ended plastic cylinders buried in soil within hedgerows of the same species. Overall tree spacing was 1 × 4 m to simulate a typical alley-cropping design. The 15N was applied as (NH4)2SO4 at 10% 15N atom excess 15 days after planting at the rate of 20 kg [N] ha−1. In 2003, seedlings of E. poeppigiana, E. fusca, and V. guatemalensis were planted in the same field using the existing cylinders. The 15N application was repeated at the rate of 20 kg [N] ha−1 15 days after planting and 10 kg [N] ha−1 was added three months after planting. Trees were harvested 9 months after planting in both years. The 15N content of leaves, branches, stems, and roots was determined by mass spectrometry. The percentage of atmospheric N fixed out of total N (%Nf) was calculated based on 15N atom excess in leaves or total biomass. The difference between the two calculation methods was insignificant for all species. Sixty percent of I. edulis trees fixed N2; %Nf was 57% for the N2-fixing trees. Biomass production and N yield were similar in N2-fixing and non-N2-fixing I. edulis. No obvious cause was found for why not all I. edulis trees fixed N2. All E. poeppigiana and E. fusca trees fixed N2; %Nf was ca. 59% and 64%, respectively. These data were extrapolated to typical agroforestry systems using published data on N recycling by the studied species. Inga edulis may recycle ca. 100 kg ha−1 a−1 of N fixed from atmosphere to soil if only 60% of trees fix N2, E. poeppigiana 60–160 kg ha−1 a−1, and E. fusca ca. 80 kg ha−1 a−1.  相似文献

Thirty-day-old plants of mustard (Brassica juncea L.) were sprayed with 10−10, 10−8, or 10−6 M aqueous solution of 28-homobrassinolide (HBR). The HBR-treated plants were healthier than those treated with water and yielded more. Maximum increase over control was found in 60-d-old, 10−8 M-HBR-treated plants in fresh and dry mass per plant, carbonic anhydrase (CA, E.C. 4.2.1.1) activity, and net photosynthetic rate (P N), at harvest in number of pods per plant and seed yield per plant (the respective values were 25, 30, 34, 69, 24, and 29 %). A further increase in the concentration of HBR (10−6 M) did not make any additional impact on the growth and yield. Increased CA activity and P N were correlated with growth and seed yield. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献
