The performance of up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) in combination with down-flow hanging sponge (DHS) system for sewage treatment at an average wastewater temperature of 15 °C has been investigated for 6 months. The results showed that a combined system operated at a total HRT of 10.7 h and total SRT of 88 days represents a cost effective sewage treatment process. The average CODtotal and BOD5 total concentrations measured in the final effluent of the total system (UASB + DHS) amounted to 43 and 3.0 mg/l, respectively, corresponding to the overall removal efficiency of 90% for CODtotal and 98% for BOD5 total. The total process provided a final effluent containing a low concentration of 12 mg/l for TSS.Eighty-six percent of ammonia was eliminated at space loading rate of 1.6 kg COD/m3 d and HRT of 2.7 h. The calculated nitrification rate of the DHS system according to the nitrate and nitrite production amounted to 0.18 kg/m3 d. The removal of F. coliform in the UASB reactor only amounted to 0.86 log10. On the other hand, the F. coliform concentration dropped substantially, i.e. by 2.6 log10 in the DHS system resulting only 2.7 × 103/100 ml in the final effluent. The calculated average sludge production for UASB operated at an HRT of 8.0 h amounted to 30 g TSS/d, corresponding to sludge yield coefficient of 0.2 g TSS/g total COD removed, while it was indeed very low only 6.0 g TSS/d corresponding to sludge yield coefficient of 0.09 g TSS/g total COD removed, for DHS system. The DHS profile results revealed that in the first and second segment of DHS system, the CODtotal, BOD5 total and TSS was eliminated, followed by the oxidation of ammonia in the next segments.  相似文献

The use of surface flow (SFCWs) and subsurface flow constructed wetlands (SFCWs) for the treatment of combined sewer overflows was assessed at pilot scale. Synthetic wastewater was applied in three batches with decreasing concentrations to mimic concentration profiles that are obtained in the field during overflow events. Three simulated combined sewer overflows were applied on each wetland. Composite water samples (60 in total) were taken for a period of 8 days to study the removal of total nitrogen (Ntot), NH4–N, NO3–N, total COD (CODtot) and total phosphorus. Redox potential, which was monitored at various locations along the wetlands, was more negative in the SSFCWs. In general, removal occurred faster in the SSFCWs and the final concentrations were lower. The removal of Ntot was only 36.6 ± 3.3% in the SFCWs due to nitrification-limiting conditions. The conditions in the SSFCWs, in contrast, seemed to promote Ntot removal (removal efficiency 96.7 ± 1.9%). The removal of P was hampered in both wetland types by reducing conditions. P that was initially removed was released again from the substrates later on. First-order removal rate constants were derived for the removal of both CODtot (SSFCWs: 1.1 ± 0.3 m d?1; SFCWs: 0.17 ± 0.06 m d?1) and Ntot (SSFCWs: 0.4 ± 0.1 m d?1; SFCWs: 1.7 ± 0.5 m d?1).  相似文献

The present study reports the performance of municipal wastewater treatment plant located at Mumbai, India using laterite soil-based constructed soil filter (CSF) system monitored over 17 months. The results indicated increase in dissolved oxygen levels and reduction of chemical oxygen demand (COD) from 135.4 ± 79.4 to 28.8 ± 19.5 mg/L with first order rate constant (Kd) of 0.23 h?1. The bio-chemical oxygen demand (BOD) reduced from 92 to less than 10 mg/L with Kd of 0.35 h?1; suspended solids reduction from mean 188 to 12–18 mg/L and turbidity reduction from mean 140 to 5.0 ± 3.4 NTU. The seasonal data showed 3.2 ± 0.9, 2.8 ± 0.4 and 2.85 ± 1.0 log order removal for total coliform, fecal coliform and heterotrophic plate count, respectively. The unique features of the system include a single unit, low HRT, high hydraulic loading, no chemicals, pretreatment and mechanical aeration, odor free, low energy requirement (0.04 kWh/m3), and green ambience.  相似文献

In this study, a single chamber microbial fuel cell (MFC) with a rotating biocathode is developed to simultaneously remove chemical oxygen demand (COD) and nitrogen accompanying current production. Under continuous regime with a feeding COD/N ratio of 5:1, removal efficiencies of total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) were 85.7 ± 7.4% and 91.5 ± 7.2%, respectively, and a maximum power output of 585 mW m?3 was yielded. In the batch tests, TN removal efficiencies for closed/open circuit were 82.1 ± 0.5% and 59.4 ± 3.3%, respectively. Cyclic voltammetry measurements demonstrated that the biocathode could efficiently catalyze nitrate reduction reaction. Autotrophic denitrification facilitated nitrogen removal using the electrode as electron donor. 16S rRNA-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) was employed for community fingerprinting. At the biocathode the bacteria involved in nitrogen cycle predominated, of which the denitrifying bacteria were closely similar to Acidovorax sp. and/or Delftia sp. They were affiliated with the family Comamondaceae. The combination of rotating biological contactors with MFCs derives a promising opportunity for wastewater treatment with a low cost and high quality effluent.  相似文献

Poultry manure contains high levels of ammonia, which result in a suboptimal bioconversion to methane in anaerobic digesters (AD). A simultaneous process of nitrification, Anammox and denitrification (SNAD) in a continuous granular bubble column reactor to treat the anaerobically digested poultry manure was implemented. Thus, two strategies to achieve high efficiencies were proposed in this study: (1) ammonia overload to suppress nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) and (2) gradual adaptation of the partial nitrification–Anammox (PN–A) biomass to organic matter. During the NOB-suppression stage, microbial and physical biomass characterizations were performed and the NOB abundance decreased from 31.3% to 3.3%. During the adaptation stage, with a nitrogen loading rate of 0.34 g L−1 d−1, a hydraulic retention time of 1.24 d and an influent COD/N ratio of 2.63 ± 0.02, a maximum ammonia and total nitrogen removal of 100% and 91.68% were achieved, respectively. The relative abundances of the aerobic and the anaerobic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria were greater than 35% and 40% respectively, during the study. These strategies provided useful design tools for the efficient removal of nitrogen species in the presence of organic matter.  相似文献

This paper analyses the purification efficiency and mass removal of organic material, suspended solids, nitrogen and phosphorus in a hybrid constructed wetland (CW) system treating wastewater from a basic school in Paistu, Estonia. The CW consists of two subsurface flow filter beds using lightweight aggregates (LWA): a two-chamber vertical subsurface flow (VSSF) filter bed followed by a horizontal subsurface flow (HSSF) filter bed, with a total area of 432 m2. This CW was constructed in summer 2002 by the Centre for Ecological Engineering in Tartu (CEET). Eighteen series of water samples (from 30.10.2003 to 15.10.2005) were undertaken. The analyses show the outstanding purification effect of the system: for BOD7 the average purification efficiency is 91%; for total suspended solids (TSS)—78%, for total P—89%, for total N—63%, and for NH4N—77%. The average outlet values for the above-listed parameters were 5.5, 7.0, 0.4, 19.2 and 9.1 mg L−1, respectively. According to our results, the purification parameters meet the standards set by the Water Act of Estonia for wastewater treatment plants of 2000–9999 PE: 15, 25, and 1.5 mg L−1 for BOD7, TSS and total P, respectively. The results show that hybrid CW systems consisting of subsurface flow filter beds can work efficiently in conditions of changing hydraulic loading and relatively cold climate. We did not find significant differences between the removal efficiency, mass removal, and values of the first-order rate-constant k for most water quality indicators during the warm (May–October) and cold (November–April) periods. Locally produced LWA as a filter material in CWs has shown good hydraulic conductivity and phosphorus sorption capacity (k = 17.1 ± 12.4 m yr−1). The Paistu CW, with its proper design and outstanding purification results, can be considered one of the best systems in Estonia.  相似文献

Five emergent plant species were compared for their effectiveness in treating contaminants in a wetland system constructed on a military base in El Salvador. The system consisted of the subsurface flow (SSF), open water (OW) and free surface flow (SF) wetlands with a combined flow capacity of up to 151.4 m3 d?1. Reliability and consistent performance in extreme conditions, such as those occurring during the tropical dry or wet seasons were important evaluation criteria. The discontinuous flow patterns typical of tropical climates necessitated the use of water balance calculations using climatic data such as rainfall and evapotranspiration. System characterization was achieved by computation of daily input and output mass loading rates for each individual constituent. Results suggest that Phragmites and Brachiaria were the most effective plants in SSF wetland. Brachiaria provided the added benefit of serving as a source of fodder and proved proficient, with N and P uptakes of 1.5–3.14% and 0.17–0.25% per dry plants’ biomass, respectively. Typha yielded the highest dry season removal efficiency within the SF (BOD5: 80.78 ± 9.35%, COD: 65.18 ± 19.6%, TN: 58.59 ± 19.3%, oil and grease: 78.34 ± 10.55%, total dissolved phosphorus: 66.5 ± 20.7%). PhragmitesTypha treatment subset performed better year-round than either ThaliaThalia or BrachiariaCyperus. Evaluated plants were capable of surviving and proliferating in extreme tropical climates.  相似文献

In order to investigate the effect of temperature, hydraulic residence time (HRT), vegetation type, substrate material and wetland shape on the performance of free-water surface (FWS) constructed wetlands treating wastewater, 5 pilot-scale units were constructed and operated continuously from December 2004 until March 2007 in parallel experiments. Four of the units (A, B, C, D) were rectangular in plan view with dimensions 3.40 m in length and 0.85 m in width, and contained substrate material at a thickness of 0.45 m. The fifth unit (E) had a trapezoidal plan view shape, with a width at the inlet of 1.15 m and at the outlet of 0.55 m, while the length and the thickness of the substrate were the same as in the other four. All units operated at a water depth of 0.10 m. Units B–E contained clay substrate and unit A contained sand. The four units with clay were planted as follows: two with cattails (B and E), one with common reeds (C), and one with giant reeds (D). Unit A, containing sand, was planted with cattails. Planting and substrate material combinations were appropriate for comparison of the effect of vegetation and material type on the function of the system. Synthetic wastewater was introduced in the units. During the operation period four HRTs (i.e., 6 days, 8 days, 14 days and 20 days) were used, while wastewater temperatures varied from about 0.0 °C to 29.1 °C. The removal performance of the five constructed wetland units was good, since it reached on the average 77.5%, 67.9%, 60.4%, 53.9%, 56.0% and 51.7% for BOD, COD, TKN, ammonia (NH4-N), ortho-phosphate (PO4-P) and total phosphorus (TP), respectively. BOD and phosphorus removal efficiencies showed dependence on temperature in most units. The 14-day HRT was found adequate for acceptable removal of organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus for most temperatures. A 20-day HRT is recommended for acceptable removal of BOD and PO4-P in the cold season. The unit with the trapezoidal plan view shape showed the best performance, with mean removals of 80.1%, 73.5%, 70.4%, 68.6%, 64.7% and 63.5% for BOD, COD, TKN, NH4-N, PO4-P and TP, respectively. The cattail was found statistically more efficient than the other two plants in COD and PO4-P removal. The unit that contained the clay substrate was found statistically more efficient in phosphorus removal than the unit containing sand. HSF CW units were found more efficient than FWS units in removal of most pollutant.  相似文献

The performance of an intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor (IASBR) technology was investigated in achieving partial nitrification, organic matter removal and nitrogen removal from separated digestate liquid after anaerobic digestion of pig manure. The wastewater had chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentrations of 11,540 ± 860 mg/L, 5-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) concentrations of 2,900 ± 200 mg/L and total nitrogen (TN) concentrations of 4,041 ± 59 mg/L, with low COD:N ratios (2.9) and BOD5:COD ratios (0.25). Synthetic wastewater, simulating the separated digestate liquid with similar COD and nitrogen concentrations but BOD5 of 11,500 ± 100 mg/L, was also treated using the IASBR technology. At a mean organic loading rate of 1.15 kg COD/(m3 d) and a nitrogen loading rate of 0.38 kg N/(m3 d), the COD removal efficiency was 89.8% in the IASBR (IASBR-1) treating digestate liquid and 99% in the IASBR (IASBR-2) treating synthetic wastewater. The IASBR-1 effluent COD was mainly due to inert organic matter and can be further reduced to less than 40 mg/L through coagulation. The partial nitrification efficiency of 71–79% was achieved in the two IASBRs and one cause for the stable long-term partial nitrification was the intermittent aeration strategy. Nitrogen removal efficiencies were 76.5 and 97% in IASBR-1 and IASBR-2, respectively. The high nitrogen removal efficiencies show that the IASBR technology is a promising technology for nitrogen removal from low COD:N ratio wastewaters. The nitrogen balance analysis shows that 59.4 and 74.3% of nitrogen removed was via heterotrophic denitrification in the non-aeration periods in IASBR-1 and IASBR-2, respectively.  相似文献

Laboratory scale research on the effects of operating parameters, including mixed liquor suspended solid (MLSS) concentration, volumetric exchange rate (VER), aeration time, temperature and daily operation cycle on biological treatment of the pulp and paper mill effluent was studied using four 4 l sequencing batch reactors (SBR). The results revealed that chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency was up to 93.1 ± 0.3% and the volumetric loading reached 1.9 kg BOD m−3 day−1 under optimal operating conditions. The treatment performance of organic removal by the SBR system remained stable during the operation. The effluent quality was satisfied with the discharge standard set by the local authority and the filamentous bulking problem was solved. At the same time, the sludge settleability, in terms of sludge volume index (SVI), was improved to the healthy level (SVI = 52.7 ± 1.3 ml g−1).  相似文献

The study aimed at investigating rural domestic wastewater treatment performance through vermifilter enhancement by a converter slag–coal cinder filter. The research was carried out by column experiments in a lab scale. Results showed the average removal rate of TCOD, BOD, ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N) and phosphorus removal by the system were 78.0%, 98.4%, 90.3%, 62.4%, respectively at a hydraulic loading rate of 4 m3 m?2 day?1. Vermifiltration was effective for insoluble organic matter and suspended solid removal, and the converter slag–coal cinder filter played an important role in phosphorus removal. The molecular weight of particles in the influent and effluents from every unit of the system were distributed in a wide range between 0.1 kDa and 10,000 kDa with predominance of values between 10 kDa and 300 kDa; the major portion of soluble material are high MW compounds. In addition, the optimal design parameters for vermifiltration and converter slag and coal cinder filters, respectively, were studied in the experiments.  相似文献

This study evaluates the potential of subsurface flow (SSF) constructed wetlands (CWs) for tertiary treatment of wastewater at four shorter HRTs (1–4 days). The CWs were planted with Typha angustata, which was observed in our earlier study to be more efficient than Phragmites karka and Scirpus littoralis. The CWs comprised four rectangular treatment cells (2.14 m × 0.76 m × 0.61 m) filled with layers of gravel of two different sizes (approximately 2.5 cm and 1.5 cm diameter) to a depth of 0.61 m. The inflow rates of the secondary effluent in the four cells were accordingly fixed at 300 L d?1, 150 L d?1, 100 L d?1 and 75 L d?1, respectively, for 1, 2, 3 and 4 days HRT. The hydraulic loads ranged between 59.05 mm d?1 and 236.22 mm d?1.The wastewater inflow into the CW system as well as the treated effluent were analyzed, using standard methods, at regular intervals for various forms of nitrogen (NH4-N, NO3-N and TKN), orthophosphate-P and organic matter (BOD and COD) concentrations over a period of five weeks after the development of a dense stand. The higher HRT of 4 days not only helped maximum removal of all the pollutants but also maintained the stability of the treatment efficiency throughout the monitoring period. For the nutrients (NH4-N, NO3-N and TKN), HRT played a more significant role in their removal than in case of organic matter (BOD3 and COD). More than 90% of NO3-N and TKN and 100% of NH4-N were removed from the wastewater at 4 days HRT.At lower HRTs, the mass loading rate was higher with greater fluctuation. However mass reduction efficiency of the T. angustata CW for all forms of nitrogen was >80% with the HRTs of 2, 3 and 4 days.  相似文献

Microalgae have received much attention for the inorganic nutrient removal in tertiary treatment of domestic wastewater. Effect of different kinds of nitrogen sources on the growth and nitrogen/phosphorus removal properties of a newly isolated freshwater microalga, Scenedesmus sp. LX1, from a low-nutrient environment condition was studied and reported in this paper. The order of specific growth rate of the microalga with different nitrogen sources was NH4-N > urea-N > NO3-N. With nitrate or urea as nitrogen source, the microalga could grow well and remove both nitrogen and phosphorus efficiently (90% nitrogen and nearly 100% phosphorus were removed). However, with ammonium as the nitrogen source, the maximum algal density was relatively low, and the nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiencies were as low as 31.1% and 76.4%, respectively. This was caused by the inhibitory effect of algal culture's acid pH due to H+ releasing from NH4+ during algal cultivation process.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to determine the treatment capacity of well-mineralized peat in vertical and horizontal flow filters designed to reduce phosphorus, nitrogen and organic matter in municipal wastewater from the town of Tapa and landfill leachate in Väätsa, Estonia. Two identically designed onsite experiments were conducted using the following filter systems: (a) a vertical flow (VF) peat filter, (b) a vertical flow peat/ash sediment filter (both materials in equal volumes) followed by a horizontal flow (HF) peat filter. Sphagnum peat and hydrated oil-shale ash (ash sediment) was used. In our experiments, one treated municipal wastewater over 6 months and another treated landfill leachate over 12 months. In both cases, effluent from a conventional treatment (aerated activated sludge treatment) plant was used. The median value of total phosphorus (TP) concentration in Väätsa landfill leachate was 3.4 mg P L?1 and in municipal wastewater from Tapa 4.9 mg P L?1. The reduction of TP in VF peat filters during the first 6 months was 58% and 63%, and in peat/ash sediment filters 94% and 67% for the Tapa experiment and the Väätsa experiment, respectively. Both experiments demonstrated that the P-removal efficiency in VF peat filters begins to decrease after 6 months of operation. The purification efficiency in HF filters fluctuated, and no significant removal of TP was found. In the removal of organic matter (BOD, COD values) and nitrogen, the best results were obtained in VF peat filters.  相似文献

Water pollution by agriculture can include inappropriately managed dairy farmyard dirty water. In Ireland, dairy farmyard dirty water includes farmyard runoff, parlour washings, and silage/farmyard manure effluents. The objectives of this study were to determine (i) the quality and quantity of dirty water generated at a farm-scale and (ii) the seasonal effectiveness of a constructed wetland to treat farmyard dirty water. The wetland system was 4800 m2 in area and treated dirty water from a 42-cow organic dairy unit with an open yard area of 2031 m2. Monthly dirty water inflow rate to the wetland ranged between 3.6 and 18.5 m3 d−1. Farmyard dirty water accounted for 27% of hydrological inputs to the wetland, whereas rainfall on wetland, along with wetland bank inflows accounted for 45 and 28%, respectively. Farmyard dirty water quality and quantity did not vary with season. Yearly mass loads discharged to the wetland were 47 ± 10 kg yr−1 of soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), 128 ± 35 kg yr−1 of NH4+, 5484 ± 1433 kg yr−1 of organic material as measured by five-day biological oxygen demand (BOD5), and 1570 ± 465 kg yr−1 of total suspended solids (TSS). Phosphorus retention by the wetland varied with season (5–84%) with least amounts being retained during winter.  相似文献

The catalytically oxidized olive mill wastewater (OMW) was subjected to continuous anaerobic treatment using two treatment schemes. The 1st step in both schemes was an up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor (2 0 l). The 2nd step was either a hybrid UASB reactor or a classical one (1 0 l, each). The 1st stage was operated at constant hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 24 h. The organic loading rate (OLR) varied from 3.4 to 4.8 kgCOD/m3 d depending on the quality of the pretreated wastewater. The results obtained indicated that, the 1st step UASB reactor achieved a COD percentage removal value of 53.9%. Corresponding total BOD5 and TSS removal were 51.5% and 68.3%, respectively. The results obtained indicated that the hybrid UASB reactor as a 2nd step produced better quality effluent as compared to the classical one. This could be attributed to the presence of the packing curtain sponge with active biomass in the sedimentation part of hybrid UASB reactor which minimizes suspended solids washout, consequently enhancement of the efficiency of the reactor.Available data showed that a two stage system consisting of a classical and a hybrid UASB reactor operated at a total HRT of 48 h and OLR of 2.0 kgCOD/m3 d provided promising results. Removal values of CODtotal, BOD5 total, TOC, VFA, oil and grease were 83%, 84%, 81%, 93% and 81%, respectively. Based on the available data, the use of a two stage anaerobic system consisting of a classical UASB reactor followed by a hybrid UASB as a post-treatment step for catalytically oxidized OMW is recommended.  相似文献

The performance of a liquid–solid circulating fluidized bed bioreactor (LSCFB) with anoxic and aerobic beds and lava rock as a biofilm carrier media was used to investigate the impact of the COD/N ratio on the process performance, with particular focus on total nitrogen removal. Three different COD/N ratios of 10:1, 6:1 and 4:1 were tested at an empty bed contact time of 0.82 h. More than 90% of the influent organic matter was removed throughout the study with 58% removal in the anoxic column in Phase III. Total nitrogen removal efficiencies in Phases I–III were 91%, 82% and 71% and simultaneous nitrification–denitrification (SND) occurred in the aerobic downer. The LSCFB demonstrated tertiary effluent quality at COD/N ratio of 10:1 and 6:1 with soluble biochemical oxygen demand (SBOD) <10 mg l?1 and total nitrogen (TN) <10 mg l?1.  相似文献

In 2001, to foster the practical development of constructed wetlands (CWs) used for domestic wastewater treatment in Turkey, vertical subsurface flow constructed wetlands (30 m2 of each) were implemented on the campus of the METU, Ankara, Turkey. The main objective of the research was to quantify the effect of different filter media on the treatment performance of vertical flow wetlands in the prevailing climate of Ankara. Thus, a gravel-filled wetland and a blast furnace granulated iron slag-filled wetland were operated identically with primarily treated domestic wastewater (3 m3 d−1) at a hydraulic loading rate of 0.100 m d−1, intermittently. Both of the wetland cells were planted with Phragmites australis. According to the first year results, average removal efficiencies for the slag and gravel wetland cells were as follows: total suspended solids (TSS) (63% and 59%), chemical oxygen demand (COD) (47% and 44%), NH4+–N (88% and 53%), total nitrogen (TN) (44% and 39%), PO43−-P (44% and 1%) and total phosphorus (TP) (45% and 4%). The treatment performances of the slag-filled wetland were better than that of the gravel-filled wetland in terms of removal of phosphorus and production of nitrate. Since this study was a pioneer for implementation of subsurface constructed wetlands in Turkey using local sources, it has proved that this eco-technology could also be used effectively for water quality enhancement in Turkey.  相似文献

The hybrid bioreactor landfill was promising in solid waste management. In the work, the nitrogen removal and nitrogen transformation in hybrid bioreactor landfill with sequencing of facultative anaerobic and aerobic conditions was explored. The result showed that the combination of facultative anaerobic and aerobic conditions in the hybrid bioreactor landfill was indeed effective in eliminating ammonia both from the leachate and the refuse thoroughly. About 72% of nitrogen was reduced from the landfilled fresh refuse through the operation of 357 days. At the end of the experiment, the concentrations of COD, ammonia, nitrate and TN in the leachate decreased to 399.2 mg l?1, 20.6 mg N l?1, 3.7 mg N l?1 and 25.3 mg N l?1, respectively.  相似文献

The treatment capacity of constructed wetlands is expected to be high in tropical areas because of the warm temperatures and the associated higher rates of microbial activity. A pilot scale horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland system filled with river sand and planted with Phragmites vallatoria (L.) Veldkamp was set up in the southern part of Vietnam to assess the treatment capacity and the removal rate kinetics under tropical conditions. The system received municipal wastewater at four hydraulic loading rates (HLRs) of 31, 62, 104 and 146 mm day?1. Removals of TSS, BOD5 and COD were efficient at all HLRs with mean removal rates of 86–95%, 65–83% and 57–84%, respectively. Removals of N and P decreased with HLRs and were: NH4-N 0–91%; TN 16–84% and TP 72–99%. First-order area-based removal rate constants (k, m year?1) estimated from sampling along the length of the wetland from inlet to outlet at the four HLRs were in the range of 25–95 (BOD5), 22–30 (COD), 31–115 (TSS), 5–24 (TN and TKN) and 41–84 (TP) at background concentrations (C*) of 5, 10, 0, 1.5 and 0 mg L?1, respectively. The estimated k-values should not be used for design purposes, as site-specific differences and stochastic variability can be high. However, the study shows that domestic wastewater can be treated in horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland systems to meet even the most stringent Vietnamese standards for discharge into surface waters.  相似文献
