Water and ion balance in a corn field in the semi-arid region of the upper Yellow River basin (Inner Mongolia, China) was analyzed with special reference to transpiration stream and selective nutrient uptake driven by the crop canopy. During the crop development stage (June 7 to July 17, 2005), crop transpiration and soil evaporation were evaluated separately on a daily basis, and concentrations of NO 3 ? , PO 4 3? , K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and Cl? ions in the Yellow River water, irrigation water, ground water, soil of the root zone and xylem sap of the crop were analyzed. The crop transpiration accounted for 83.4% of the evapotranspiration during the crop development stage. All ions except for Na+ were highly concentrated in the xylem sap due to the active and selective uptake of nutrients by roots. In particular, extremely high concentrations of the major essential nutrients were found in the nighttime stem exudate, while these concentrations in the river water, the irrigation water, the ground water and the root-zone soil were lower. On the other hand, Na+, which is not the essential element for crop growth, was scarcely absorbed by roots and was not highly concentrated in the xylem sap. Consequently, Na+ remained in the ground water and the root-zone soil at higher concentrations. These results indicate that during the growing season, crop transpiration but not soil evaporation induces the most significant driving force for mass flow (capillary rise) transporting the ground water toward the rhizosphere, where the dynamics of ion balance largely depends on the active and selective nutrient uptake by roots.  相似文献

This study reports a phytoremediation pot experiment using an open-source program. Unsaturated water flow was described by the Richards' equation and solute transport by the advection-dispersion equation. Sink terms in the governing flow and transport equations accounted for root water and solute uptake, respectively. Experimental data were related to application of Vetiver grass to soil contaminated by metal ions. Sensitivity analysis revealed that due to the specific experimental set-up (bottom flux not allowed), hydraulic model parameters did not influence root water (and contaminant) uptake. In contrast, the results were highly correlated with plant solar radiation interception efficiency (leaf area index). The amounts of metals accumulated in the plant tissue were compared to numerical values of cumulative uptake. Pb2+ and Zn2+ uptake was satisfactorily described using a passive model. However, for Ni2+ and Cd2+, a specific calibration of the active uptake model was necessary. Calibrated MM parameters for Ni2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ were compared to values in the literature, generally suggesting lower rates and saturation advance. A parameter (saturation ratio) was introduced to assess the efficiency of contaminant uptake. Numerical analysis, applying actual field conditions, showed the limitation of the active model for being independent of the transpiration rate.  相似文献

The continuous use of brackish groundwater for irrigation is detrimental for soil and crop attributes. A three-year research study was designed for the wheat crop to assess the effects of brackish groundwater on crop yield and soil health under a surface irrigation system. Three sites were selected in different cropping zones of Pakistan. The treatments comprised of irrigation with moderately brackish water having 0.8, 1.3 & 2.7 dSm?1 of salinity and canal water. The results indicated that EC, SAR, bicarbonates, Ca2+ and Mg2+ levels increased in the soil for consecutive years and this increase was more at site S3 followed by S2 and S1. As soil depth is concerned, the increase was more pronounced in upper layers of soil (0–15 cm) as compared to 15–30 cm depth. Growth and yield were also affected by the consecutive use of this water, the number of plants, plant height, the number of spikes per plant, and yield was reduced at all the three sites. However, the impact was less pronounced at the site S1 whereas S3 was the most affected one. Grain weight and dry matter weight were observed to be maximum at S1. Water productivity was also calculated for all the three sites. Maximum water productivity was observed at S1 followed by S2 & S3. It was concluded that the continuous use of brackish water would have an adverse effect on crop yield and subsequently, soil health is also affected by it significantly.  相似文献

Availability of irrigation water of appropriate quality is becoming critical in many regions. Excess salt in irrigation water represents a risk for crop yield, crop quality, and soil properties. During the short vegetation period, field peas require high amounts of water, and irrigation is often indispensable for successful production. Steady presence of NaCl (0.1, 0.2, 0.6 or 1.2 g NaCl L−1 in 1/2 strength Hoagland nutrient solution) under semi-controlled conditions reduced growth and resulted in shorter vegetation. Disturbances in the peas’ water regime were provoked by NaCl, as water content in pea tissues was reduced and stomatal density and stomatal diffusive resistance increased in the presence of higher NaCl concentrations. Concentration of Na+ increased in all pea tissues with increased NaCl concentration in the nutrient medium. In the presence of NaCl, concentrations of K+, Ca2+ and Pi increased in roots, stems and leaves, and decreased and in pods and grains. Concentration ratios Na+/K+, Na+/Ca2+, K+/Ca2+ and (Na++K+)/Ca2+ in various plant parts were affected as well, but magnitudes of changes were variable. Continuous presence of NaCl in concentrations frequently met in irrigation waters significantly reduced pea growth, impaired the water regime, and altered plant chemical composition.  相似文献

Root biomass, root nitrogen content, and root distribution down to 50 cm depth in winter wheat were determined by soil coring on five dates in four different treatments: control (C), drought (D), daily irrigation (I), and daily irrigation and fertilization (IF). The first three treatments received the N fertilizer application as a single dose in spring, whereas in IF daily doses of N were supplied in the irrigation water using a drip-tube system, according to the estimated nutrient demand of the crop. All treatments received 20 g N m−2 year−1. The maximum root biomass (104 g m−2) was reached earliest in IF. On 6 June, root samples were taken down to a depth of 100 cm, and the proportion of deep roots (50–100 cm) was least in I, indicating that it had the shaklowest root system. The root biomass as a fraction of the total plant mass decreased during crop development in all treatments down to about 4% at harvest. The decrease was more rapid in I and C than in D and IF. The higher proportion of roots during spring in D and IF coincided with a low nitrogen concentration in the roots, which was attributed to the restricted water supply and to the relative shortage of nitrogen during early crop development in D and IF, respectively. The dynamics of mass and nitrogen in macroscopic organic debris in the soil suggested that root turnover rates were high. ei]{gnB E}{fnClothier}  相似文献

Maize being sub-tropical crop is sensitive to water deficit during the early growth stages; particularly clay-rich soil, due to the compaction of the soil. It is well-documented that potential sub-surface drip irrigation (SDI) (Full irrigation; SDIFull (100% field capacity (FC)), Deficit irrigation; SDIDeficit (70% FC)) improves water use efficiency, which leads to increased crop productivity; since it has a constraint that SDI excludes soil air around the root-zone during irrigation events, which alter the root function and crop performance. Additionally, in clayrich soils, the root system of plants generally suffers the limitation of oxygen, particularly the temporal hypoxia, and occasionally from root anoxia; while SDI system accomplishes with the aerating stream of irrigation in the rhizosphere could provide oxygen root environment. The oxygen can be introduced into the irrigation stream of SDI through two ways: the venturi principle, or by using solutions of hydrogen peroxide through the air injection system. Therefore, the application of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2; HP) can mitigate the adverse effect of soil compactness and also lead to improving the growth, yield and yield attributes of maize in clay-rich soil. Considering the burning issue, a field study was conducted in consecutive two seasons of 2017 and 2018; where hybrid maize was cultivated as a second crop, to evaluate the effect of liquid-injection of H2O2 (HP) into the irrigation stream of SDI on the performance of maize in a clay-rich soil field of Adana, Turkey. When soil water content decreased in 50% of available water, irrigation was performed. The amount of water applied to reach the soil water content to the field capacity is SDIFull (100% FC) and 70% FC of this water is SDIDeficit (70% FC). In the irrigation program, hydrogen peroxide (HP) was applied at intervals of 7 days on average according to available water with and without HP: SDIFull (100% FC) + 0 ppm HP with full SDI irrigation; SDIFull (100% FC) + 250 ppm HP with deficit SDI irrigation; SDIDeficit (70% FC) + 0 ppm HP, SDIDeficit (70% FC) + 250 ppm HP and SDIDeficit (70% FC) + 500 ppm HP. Deficit irrigation (SDIDeficit (70% FC)) program was started from tasseling stage and continued up to the physiological maturity stage with sub-soil drip irrigation. H2O2 was applied 3 times during the growing season. Two years’ results revealed that the liquid-injection of H2O2 into the irrigation stream of SDI improved the growth and yield-related attributes and grain yield of maize. Based on the obtained results, during the extreme climatic condition in the year 2017, SDIFull (100% FC) + 250 ppm HP was more effective than SDIFull (100% FC) + 0 ppm HP on all traits for relative to full irrigation. While, during the favourable climatic condition in the 2018 season, SDIFull (100% FC) + 250 ppm HP was more effective than full irrigation with SDIFull (100% FC) + 0 ppm HP for the grain yield, grains, and SPAD value. Accordingly, the most effective treatment was SDIFull (100% FC) + 250 ppm HP, as it gave the highest growth and yield-related attributes and grain yield of maize followed by SDIDeficit (70% FC) + 250 ppm HP. Therefore, SDIFull with 250 ppm H2O2 using as liquid-injection may be recommended to mitigate the adverse effect of soil compactness particularly water-deficit stress in clay-rich soil for the sustainability of maize production.  相似文献

Alternate partial root zone irrigation (APRI) is a new water-saving irrigation technique. It can reduce irrigation water and transpiration without reduction in crop yield, thus increase water and nutrient use efficiency. Understanding of soil moisture distribution and dynamic under the alternate partial root zone drip irrigation (APDI) can help to develop the efficient irrigation schemes. In this paper, a two-dimensional (2D) root water uptake model was proposed based on soil water dynamic and root distribution of grape vine, and a function of soil evaporation related to soil water content was defined under the APDI. Then the soil water dynamic model of APDI (APRI-model) was developed based on the 2D root water uptake model and soil evaporation function combined with average measured soil moisture content at 0–10 cm soil layer. Soil water dynamic in APDI was respectively simulated by Hydrus-2D model and APRI-model. The simulated soil water contents by two models were compared with the measured value. The results showed that the values of root-mean-square-error (RMSE) range from 0.01 to 0.022 cm3/cm3 for APRI-model, and from 0.012 to 0.031 cm3/cm3 for Hydrus-2D model. The average relative error between the simulated and measured soil water content is about 10% for APRI-model, and from 11% to 29% for Hydrus-2D model, indicating that two models perform well in simulating soil moisture dynamic under the APDI, but the APRI-model is more suitable for modeling the soil water dynamic in the arid region with greater soil evaporation and uneven root distribution.  相似文献

Instantaneous rates of (soil + root) respiration were measured periodically during grain filling in sunflower crops that were i) irrigated at weekly intervals and ii) subjected to water stress for the last 25 days of the 40-day grain filling period. Daily (soil + root) respiration was calculated using instantaneous respiration rates, an empirically determined temperature response function, and diurnal records of soil temperature. Daily soil respiration was estimated using empirically determined functions linking soil respiration to soil temperature and water content. Between anthesis and maturity, daily root respiration of the irrigated crop dropped by about one half from ca. 1.8 g C m-2 d-1, exhibiting a strong association with daily crop gross photosynthesis. Water stress brought about a rapid decrease in root respiration, which fell to about 0.1 g C m-2 d-1 at maturity. Root respiration during grain filling was 46 and 30 g C m-2 for irrigated and stressed crops, respectively.  相似文献

Inadequate oxygen concentration in the root zone is a constraint to plant performance particularly in heavy, compacted and/or saline soils. Sub-surface drip irrigation (SDI) offers a means of increasing oxygen to plant roots in such soils, provided irrigation water can be hyper-aerated or oxygenated. Hydrogen peroxide (HP) at the rate of 5 litre ha−1 at the end of each irrigation cycle was injected through SDI tape to a field-grown zucchini (courgette) crop (Cucurbita pepo) on a saturated heavy clay soil in Queensland, Australia. Fruit yield, number and shoot weight increased by 25%, 29% and 24% respectively due to HP treatment compared to the control. Two pot experiments with vegetable soybean (Glycine max) and cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) compared the effectiveness of HP and air injection using a Mazzei air injector (a venturi), throughout the irrigation cycle in raising crop yield in a heavy clay soil kept at saturation or just under field capacity. Fresh pod yield of vegetable soybean increased by 82–96% in aeration treatments compared with the control. The yield increase was associated with more pods per plant and greater mean pod weight. Significantly higher above ground biomass and light interception were evident with aeration, irrespective of soil water treatment. Similarly cotton lint yield increased by 14–28% in aeration treatments compared with the control. The higher lint yield was associated with more squares and bolls per plant which accompanied greater above ground biomass and an increase in root mass, root length and soil respiration. Air injection and HP effected greater water use, but also brought about an enhancement of water use efficiency (WUE) for pod and lint yield, and increased leaf photosynthetic rate in both species but had no effect on transpiration rate and stomatal conductance per unit leaf area. Aeration-induced enhanced root function was arguably responsible for greater fruit set and yield in all three crops, while in vegetable soybean greater canopy cover, radiation interception and total vegetative biomass were responsible for additional yield benefit. Increased aeration of the root zone in heavy clay soils employing either air injection or HP proved beneficial to SDI irrigated crops, irrespective of the soil water conditions, and can add value to grower investments in SDI.

The drought‐sensitivity of oilseed rape (OSR, Brassica napus cv. SW Landmark) was investigated, using the more widely studied crop species wheat (Triticum aestivum cv. Tybalt) as a benchmark. The water relations of OSR and wheat were compared in lysimeter and controlled environment experiments to test the hypothesis that the growth of OSR is restricted to a greater extent by soil drying than wheat and to determine whether the greater sensitivity results from differences in root or shoot traits. Plants were grown, with or without irrigation, in 1.2 m tall lysimeters packed with a sandy clay loam soil. The experiment was conducted in an open‐sided glasshouse to encourage air flow and to resemble a field environment as far as possible; plant population densities were equivalent to commercial crops. Irrigated OSR (evapo)transpired more water than wheat (498 vs. 355 mm), but had a comparable water use efficiency (WUE; 4.1 vs. 4.4 g DW mm?1 H2O). Oilseed rape showed a greater reduction in above‐ground growth (52% vs. 21%) and a smaller increase in WUE (27% vs. 45%) when water was withheld. Oilseed rape also responded to soil drying at a lower soil moisture deficit than wheat; transpiration rates fell below the potential of irrigated plants when plant available water remaining in the soil profile declined from 54 to 23% compared to 38 to 9% for wheat. The root hydraulic conductivity of young OSR plants, measured on root surface area basis, was about twice that of wheat, and was comparable on a root length basis. The results show that OSR was more sensitive to a restricted water supply than the benchmark species wheat and that the greater sensitivity resulted from differences in shoot, rather than root, characteristics. The root system of OSR was at least as efficient as wheat at extracting water from soil.  相似文献

In order to analyze the salt transport affected by roots and its effects on soil salinity in an experimental irrigated field newly established in an alluvial valley of the Yellow River in China, spatial distribution of ions contained in waters, soils and crops relevant to these phenomena were evaluated there. During the intensive surveys conducted in year 2007–2008, the Yellow River water, irrigation canal water, groundwater, field soils and crops, etc. were sampled and their chemical characteristics such as electrical conductivity, concentrations of ions Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Cl, SO42−and NO3 were measured. Irrigation seemed to cause increases in the concentrations of ions Na+, Cl and SO42− in the groundwater. Although those were also major ions contained in the field soil, the soil was classed as saline but not sodic according to the standard classification. On the other hand, K+, which is one of the major essential nutrients for plant growth, was highly concentrated in the crops, while Na+ was not concentrated because of crop’s poor ability to absorb it. The ion concentration within the plant body seemed to be reflected by the active and selective ion uptake by roots and the transpiration stream. Furthermore, salt accumulation in the surface-irrigated field largely depended on the upward transport of water and ions in the soil profile affected by root absorption capacity. The information obtained in this study will contribute to the development of scientific methods for sustainable and effective plant production in irrigated fields.  相似文献

Fine root turnover of irrigated hedgerow intercropping in Northern Kenya   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Lehmann  Johannes  Zech  Wolfgang 《Plant and Soil》1998,198(1):19-31
Fine root turnover (<2 mm) was determined from repeated measurements of root distribution up to 120 cm soil depth by core sampling in four month intervals. Sole cropped Sorghum bicolor and Acacia saligna were compared with the agroforestry combination in an alley cropping system in semiarid Northern Kenya. Three methods for the calculation of root production were used: the max-min, balancing-transfer and compartment-flow method. The highest root biomass was found in the topsoil for all cropping systems, though trees had a deeper root system. Trees and crops had a similar amount of below-ground biomass during the vegetation period (0.3 and 0.4 Mg DM ha-1 120 cm-1), but in the agroforestry combination root biomass was more than the sum of the sole cropped systems (1.1 Mg DM ha-1 120 cm-1). The tree system showed a very static root development with little fluctuation between seasons, whereas root biomasses were very dynamic in the crop and tree + crop systems. Root production was highest in the tree + crop combination with 2.1 Mg DM ha-1 a-1, with about 50% less in sole cropped trees and crops. Root N input to soil decreased in the order tree + crop>tree>crop system with 13.5, 11.0 and 3.2 kg N ha-1 a-1, and cannot be estimated from total below-ground biomass or carbon turnover, as N is accumulated in senescing roots. Such low N input to soil stresses the need for investigating other processes of nutrient input from roots to soil. Areas of highest N input were identified in the topsoil under the tree row in the tree system. Resource utilisation and C and N input to soil were highest with a combination of annual and perennial crops.  相似文献

We measured concentrations of soil nutrients (0–15 and 30–35 cm depths) before and after the dry season in control and dry-season irrigated plots of mature tropical moist forest on Barro Colorado Island (BCI) in central Panama to determine how soil moisture affects availability of plant nutrients. Dry-season irrigation (January through April in 1986, 1987, and 1988) enhanced gravimetric soil water contents to wet-season levels (ca. 400 g kg–1 but did not cause leaching beyond 0.8 m depth in the soil. Irrigation increased concentrations of exchangeable base cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+), but it had little effect on concentrations of inorganic N (NH4 +C, NO3 and S (SO4 2–). These BCI soils had particularly low concentrations of extractable P especially at the end of the dry season in April, and concentrations increased in response to irrigation and the onset of the rainy season. We also measured the response of soil processes (nitrification and S mineralization) to irrigation and found that they responded positively to increased soil moisture in laboratory incubations, but irrigation had little effect on rates in the field. Other processes (plant uptake, soil organic matter dynamics) must compensate in the field and keep soil nutrient concentrations at relatively low levels.  相似文献

Root dynamics in plant and ratoon crops of sugar cane   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The root system of a sugar cane crop on an Ultisol in northeastern Brazil was examined throughout the plant and first ratoon crop cycles, using both coring and minirhizotron methods. Total root masses (living plus dead, 0.9–1.1 kg m-2) and live root lengths (14.0–17.5 km m-2) were greater during the ratoon cycle than at the end of the plant cane cycle (0.75 kg m-2 and 13.8 km m-2, respectively). Root die-back during the two weeks following ratoon harvest was estimated to be 0.15 kg m-2, about 17% of the total root mass. Root die-back after the plant cane harvest was lower because fire was not used at this harvest and soil humidity was higher under the accumulated litter. A small amount of fine roots proliferated in the litter layer, amounting to 1% of the total mass and 3% of the total length. Root turnover could not be accurately assessed from minirhizotron observations due to variation in the relationship between coring data and the minirhizotron data with both time and soil depth.  相似文献

Sunflower is a major oil seed crop worldwide, and it is also an important crop in Mediterranean areas where salinity is an increasing problem. In this paper, the effect of saline irrigation water on seed yield and quality of sunflower was evaluated. A pot experiment was carried out over two crop seasons on two hybrids – a standard one (Carlos) and a high oleic one (Tenor) – submitted to five salinity levels of irrigation water (0.6, 3, 6, 9 and 12 dS m?1). Soil salinity was monitored over the entire crop cycle, and leaf ion content was determined at maturity. Tenor showed higher Na+ and Mg2+ content but lower K+ values. No difference between the two hybrids was observed for Cl? content. A progressive increase in leaf Na+, K+ and Cl? contents and Na+/K+ ratio with increasing salinity level was observed. Seed weight per head, 1000 achene weight, number of seeds per plant and oil yield significantly decreased under salt stress in both hybrids. The percent seed yield decrease was higher per unit increase in electrical conductivity of irrigation water, ECw (8%), than per unit increase in electrical conductivity of saturated‐soil extracts, ECe (5%). Concerning oil fatty acid composition, the main significant difference as result of salt stress was a progressive increase in oleic acid content, from 82.2% to 86.7% for Tenor and from 21.8% to 27.3% for Carlos, which was consistent with a decrease in linoleic acid content, from 5.9% to 3% for Tenor and from 66% to 61.3% for Carlos. These results confirm the possible inhibition of oleate desaturase under salt stress.  相似文献

Above-canopy sprinkler irrigation with saline water favours the absorption of salts by wetted leaves and this can cause a yield reduction additional to that which occurs in salt-affected soils. Outdoor pot experiments with both sprinkler and drip irrigation systems were conducted to determine foliar ion accumulation and performance of maize and barley plants exposed to four treatments: nonsaline control (C), salt applied only to the soil (S), salt applied only to the foliage (F) and salt applied to both the soil and to the foliage (F+S). The EC of the saline solution employed for maize in 1993 was 4.2 dS m–1 (30 mM NaCl and 2.8 mM CaCl2) and for barley in 1994, 9.6 dS m–1 (47 mM NaCl and 23.5 mM CaCl2). The soil surface of all pots was covered so that in the F treatment the soil was not salinized by the saline sprinkling and drip irrigation supplied nutrients in either fresh (treatments C and F) or saline water (treatments S and F+S).Saline sprinkling increased leaf sap Na+ concentrations much more than did soil salinity, especially in maize, even though the saline sprinkling was given only two or three times per week for 30 min, whereas the roots of plants grown in saline soil were continuously exposed to salinity. By contrast, leaf sap Cl concentrations were increased similarly by saline sprinkling and soil salinity in maize, and more by saline sprinkling than saline soil in barley. It is concluded that barley leaves, and to a greater extent maize leaves, lack the ability to selectively exclude Na+ when sprinkler irrigated with saline water. Moreover, maize leaves selectively absorbed Na+ over Cl whereas barley leaves showed no selectivity. When foliar and root absorption processes were operating together (F+S treatment) maize and barley leaves accumulated 11–14% less Na+ and Cl than the sum of individual absorption processes (treatment F plus treatment S) indicating a slight interaction between the absorption processes. Vegetative biomass at maturity and cumulative plant water use were significantly reduced by saline sprinkling. In maize, reductions in biomass and plant water use relative to the control were of similar magnitude for plants exposed only to saline sprinkling, or only to soil salinity; whereas in barley, saline sprinkling was more detrimental than was soil salinity. We suggest that crops that are salt tolerant because they possess root systems which efficiently restrict Na+ and Cl transport to the shoot, may not exhibit the same tolerance in sprinkler systems which wet the foliage with saline water. ei]T J Flowers  相似文献

A greenhouse study was performed in order to investigate the effects of three arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) species on vegetative growth, water relations, and mineral composition parameters of snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus cv. Bells white) under irrigation from different water sources. Five irrigation treatments included using purely desalinized (fresh) water (DW), as a control, three different blends of DW with saline ground water from a well with increasing salinity, and one with 100% of saline well water. Inoculation with AMF enhanced growth rates and a relative water content of snapdragon plants grown under well-water irrigation. AMF also improved the leaf water potential and increased water-use efficiency of the plants. Shoot and root dry masses were higher in the AMF-treated plants than those in AMF-free plants. In both shoots and roots, concentrations of total P, Ca2+, N, Mg2+, and K+ were higher in the AMF-treated plants compared with AMF-free plants under salt-stress conditions. Shoot Cl- and Na+ concentrations were lower in the AMF-treated plants than those in the AMF-free plants grown under well-water irrigation. Snapdragon plants exhibited a high degree of dependency on AMF; it improved plant growth rates and leaf water relations, particularly, with increasing salinity of irrigation water.  相似文献

Many polluted sites are simultaneously contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals. In the present study, batch and continuous column experiments were performed utilizing self-composition soil to describe the sorption behavior of two contaminants: lead (Pb2+) and pyrene (PYR). Operational conditions such as contact time, bed depth, and flow rate were optimized. The effect of soil organic matter content on the process of adsorption of both contaminants was investigated. The presence of PYR in solution at neutral pH (6.0–7.5) decreased Pb2+ sorption. Similar behavior was observed for PYR in the presence of Pb2+ in solution. At room temperature, batch experimental data conducted as a function of contact time were analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Results revealed that Pb2+ sorption isotherms were fitted better by the Langmuir model and PYR sorption isotherms were fitted better by the Freundlich model. Column adsorption experiments were carried out at room temperature and under operating parameters (bed depth, flow rate, and initial contaminant concentration). Breakthrough curves were well fitted to the two-site first-order kinetic model with a sum of square errors less than 0.14. The Pb2+ adsorption kinetic data were processed also for the Thomas model with a good accuracy.  相似文献

Field experiments were performed in Southern Finland on fine sand and organic soil in 1990 and 1991 to study carrot roots. Fall ploughed land was loosened by rotary harrowing to a depth of 20 cm or compacted under moist conditions to a depth of 25–30 cm by three passes of adjacent wheel tracks with a tractor weighing 3 Mg, in April were contiguously applied across the plot before seed bed preparation. Sprinkler irrigation (30 mm) was applied to fine sand when moisture in the 0–15 cm range of soil depth was 50% of plant-available water capacity. For root sampling, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) cylinders (30 × 60 cm) were installed in the rows of experimental plots after sowing, and removed at harvest. Six carrot plants were grown in each of in these soil colums in situ in the field.Fine root length and width were quantified by image analysis. Root length density (RLD) per plant was 0.2–1.0 cm cm-3 in the 0–30 cm range. The fibrous root system of one carrot had total root lengths of 130–150 m in loose fine sand and 180–200 m in compacted fine sand. More roots were observed in irrigated than non-irrigated soils. In the 0–50 cm range of organic soil, 230–250 m of root length were removed from loosened organic soils and 240–300 m from compacted soils. Specific root surface area (surface area divided by dry root weight) of a carrot fibrous root system averaged 1500–2000 cm2 g-1. Root length to weight ratios of 250–350 m g-1 effectively compare with the ratios of other species.Fibrous root growth was stimulated by soil compaction or irrigation to a depth of 30 cm, in both the fine sand and organic soils, suggesting better soil water supply in compacted than in loosened soils. Soil compaction increased root diameters more in fine sand than it did in organic soil. Most of the root length in loosened soils (fine sand 90%, organic soil 80%) and compacted soils (fine sand 80%, organic soil 75%) was composed of roots with diameters of approximately 0.15 mm. With respect to dry weight, length, surface area and volume of the fibrous root system, all the measurements gave significant resposes to irrigation and soil compaction. Total root volumes in the 0–50 cm of soil were 4.3 cm3 and 9.8 cm3 in loosened fine sand and organic soils, respectively, and 6.7 cm3 and 13.4 cm3 in compacted sand and organic soils, respectively. In fine sand, irrigation increased the volume from 4.8 to 6.3 cm3.  相似文献
